Is the Do-It-Yourselfer, more commonly known know as a DIY, going away? Not according to USA  who wrote that in February 2023, a survey found that 76% of homeowners between the ages of 18 and 24 and 73% of homeowners under 44 were doing DIY projects due to inflation. The survey also found that homeowners in remote areas may prefer DIY projects because it may be difficult to find nearby professionals. Nancy talks about the pros and cons of the homeowner doing his or her own projects The more popular DIY projects What can go wrong when doing projects not in the DIY's skill set Why people do their own projects What to look be aware of when doing your projects If you are a do-it-yourselfer, please contact Nancy (Nancy@nancyhugo.com) about your experiences.  Were you happy with the results or did you have any mishaps or regrets? Diane Pucin recalls with pride and joy how the sports calendar served as the rhythm of her life for nearly 40 years. Bob Knight throwing a chair. Jimmy Connors sending the U.S. Open crowd into a frenzy. The distinct sound of Pete Sampras' racquet when he hit a tennis ball. An emotional Dan Jansen finally winning a gold medal. Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding going full soap opera. Pucin tells us what it was like to be at these moments and chronicle them. She also discusses breaking barriers for female sports journalists. Shame on Jim Fregosi. And Diane shares her 9/11 experience, including what nearly happened to her on that horrific morning. Pucin covered multiple Olympics, Super Bowls, Final Fours, World Series, all four major tennis tournaments, college football bowl games, and the Tour de France. She was a sports columnist, sports media critic, and an Olympic and tennis writer for the Los Angeles Times from 1998 to 2014. From 1978 to '86, Diane worked at the Louisville Courier-Journal, where she was a beat reporter on Indiana University football and basketball. Most people would assume ‘Love is Blind' star Nancy Rodriguez built most of her wealth after appearing on the show. But most people would be wrong. For the past seven years, Nancy has been quietly building a cash-flowing rental property portfolio, allowing her to become debt-free, go full-time into real estate, and build generational wealth for her family. She started her journey with 0% down loans, worked her way up to short-term rentals, and is now buying properties in cash across the great state of Texas.Nancy grew up with limited financial education. Money wasn't a topic that was often discussed but witnessing her parents work hard to obtain it taught her that wealth was worth attaining. After graduating from college, she was strapped with six figures in student debt, prompting her to become a debt-free Dave Ramsey disciple. But, as she paid off her debt, the fear of leverage fell away, allowing her to pick up property number one with a 0% down payment. From there, she piled her money into properties, buying as many “ugly” homes as possible and turning them into worthwhile stays. She's dealt with burnt interiors, squatters, and bad contractors, but nothing has stopped her from achieving the financial freedom she sought. Now in the limelight, Nancy is trying to help others do the same. This week on The Bad B*tch Entrepreneur podcast, I'm joined by my friend, colleague, and former client Nancy Sun. We're conditioned to think being creative or multi-passionate is reserved for a special subset of people - children or talented individuals who are already excellent at it. It's not true. Our natural humanity is naturally creative by default. Nancy and I are sharing why the creative endeavor is for everyone, how focusing actually limits your capacity, and her experience and biggest takeaways as a client. In this episode you'll learn: Why creativity is an innate part of everyone. How coaching creates spaciousness for your multiple passions. What entrepreneurship and creativity have in common. Why perfectionism is not a requirement for creativity. ...and so much more! More about Nancy: Nancy is a coach for multi-passionate creatives. She helps them create the art, money, and impact they want to see in the world. She helps multi-passionate creatives because she IS one. In addition to coaching, she is an actor and writer. She has acted opposite Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and Thandie Newton. Her writing has earned her a mention in the NYTimes. She plays big with her artistry as a stand for her fellow artists to do the same. Follow Nancy here or here.

The media frenzy gave figure skating more media attention than it had ever received, especially when details surfaced revealing that Kerrigan's rival, Tonya Harding, may have been involved in the attack. How involved was Harding in the plot to attack Kerrigan? What happened to both of these individuals in the aftermath? And where are they now?

What we cover: “Surf the cosmic wave.” – Nancy Johnston Not long ago, I had an email from a good friend in London, Jennifer Cameron, letting me know that her good friend, Nancy Johnston, would be coming to Vancouver for Vancouver Fashion Week. And that not only did she have an incredible story – one that would shape her as someone who can rise time and again in the face of adversity – but that she is the creator of a brand that is literally knocking the fashion world on its socks. (Mixed metaphor?) Before we get into the awe-inspiring brand, Tengri, we get into what makes Nancy – Nancy. With a past straight out of an Oscar winning movie, she is the personification of self-made. Her family fled Vietnam in the mid-1970s, taking up in a Malaysian Refugee Camp for a full year just before she was born in Los Angeles when the family first arrived in the United States.  Her life in LA wasn’t easy – she and her siblings didn’t have toys, violence was right outside the front door, high school stabbings weren’t unusual. And in her early years, when her parents couldn’t secure childcare but still had to earn a living, Nancy was brought to the sweatshop where her mom was employed and she too was put to work on the factory line. But as she tells it, even at the age of 4, she was excited to be there – to earn her own money. This is a woman who gets the notion of owning her perspective. It’s this perspective, this taking life by the horns, this propensity for not looking back but for instead just focusing on moving forward, on being a do-er, that has bode her well. And, after initially pursuing an education in pre-med, landing instead in pharmacy, then ultimately in social work and in the charitable sector, and making her home in London with her British husband, she acknowledged a long-time pull to the vast and desolate terrain of Mongolia. She arrived as a traveller, and soon, the idea for Tengri was born. So, what is Tengri?  Well, you’re going to love the concept. While staying with a nomadic yak herding family in Mongolia, she saw firsthand their struggles. She understood that combed yak fibre was a commodity that was simply not being utilized in the way it could be. She knew she had to do something so that these combings, these fibres, typically considered “waste” could be deemed of value in the fashion and luxury goods supply chain.  So she got to work and created a brand. Launched in 2014, Tengri is a London-based globally-conscious company that creates sustainable luxury knitwear and yarns from the Mongolian yak fibres. It’s as soft as cashmere, it’s breathable and hypoallergenic. Yet it just wasn’t being used to the degree it could've been.  Today, Nancy and her team work directly with more than 4,500 nomadic herder families in Mongolia, and with the best designers back in the UK, and the result is a 100% transparent supply-chain process.  Tengri has been listed as one of the Top 100 businesses in the Sustainai100 guide. Tengri fashion pieces are now carried in Selfridges. The brand has a presence on Saville Row, which is pretty much as big as it gets. And Nancy herself was listed as one of 20 Women in Luxury to watch as well, as presented with the Asian Women of Achievement Award in the category of entrepreneur.  When I ask her which of her pinch me moments feels most surreal – having a window in Selfridges? Designing luxury bedding for The Savoy Hotel? – no, it’s none of that. It’s seeing the lives of these 4,500 yak herding families in Mongolian improve dramatically.  That’s the kind of person Nancy is. She’s self-made, and she’s bringing thousands of others along on her rise. And she’s not even 40-years-old. MJDionne.com
