Enjoy the first 30 minutes of this POSTwrestlingCafe.com Exclusive Podcast — Following their final encounter at Wrestle Kingdom 20, John Pollock and Wai Ting revisit the era-defining rivalry between Hiroshi Tanahashi and Kazuchika Okada through a selection of key matches from their 2012-2016 saga. They discuss Okada's early years, from his mishandled TNA excursion as Okato to his 2012 NJPW homecoming that produced the “Rainmaker Shock”, when booker Gedo made the controversial call to have the then-unproven Okada upset long-reigning champion Tanahashi for the IWGP Heavyweight Title.John & Wai contextualize their subsequent series of critically acclaimed matches, tracing Okada's epic journey as he attempts, fails, and ultimately succeeds in being recognized by the audience and Tanahashi as the true “Ace” of the promotion.Matches covered (NJPW World account required):The New Beginning (2/12/12)Wrestle Kingdom 7 (1/4/13)Invasion Attack (4/7/13)Wrestle Kingdom 9 (1/4/15)Wrestle Kingdom 10 (1/4/16)This episode was brought to you by Espresso Executive Producer, Robbie EllinorNext time on Rewind-A-Wai: Shinya Hashimoto RetrospectiveCheck out the Rewind-A-Wai Archives for all patrons: https://www.postwrestling.com/category/podcasts/postwrestlingcafe/raw/Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/postwrestling.comX: http://www.twitter.com/POSTwrestlingInstagram: http://www.instagram.com/POSTwrestlingFacebook: http://www.facebook.com/POSTwrestlingYouTube: http://www.youtube.com/POSTwrestlingSubscribe: https://postwrestling.com/subscribePatreon: http://postwrestlingcafe.comForum: https://forum.postwrestling.comDiscord: https://postwrestling.com/discordSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
James and Christy close out this tournament with some happy thoughts of a tournament well wrestled but some doubts and concerns for the future as they look at Wrestle Kingdom 20 with both joy and some serious reservations. In the mean time two loaded cards impress and bring a riveting climax to what has been an incredible year for NJPW
Good Lord where do we even start? A week of excellent wrestling and perplexing decisions, bring frustration to Christy and quiet joy to James as NJPW drop a firework in the underpants of forward planning but offer up some banger wrestling matches. Defy genre expectation along the way. Shoma Kato continues to be cringe.
James & Christy bring you news from Sunday's New Japan World Tag League as the final is getting closer and the teams are vying for a place in the semi final. There is news from outside of NJPW, as BUSHI is announced for NOAH, and the intrepid duo look at the lack of news concerning Wrestle Kingdom 20.
Good Lord where do we even begin? 10 minutes on Zane Jay's wrist tape and we are off and running on a show of segues masquerading as a show review. The Joy of Callum Newman's Tattoos, Tag Team Marriage Counselling and the pure hearted opulence of Katsuya Murashima's wholesome energy. Go on, you know want too.
James & Christy bring you all the news of Night 9 & 10 of World Tag League as the tournament wears on the and the edges start to fray around the marriage of convenience that is Ward dogs and the Unaffiliated.
James & Christy deep dive into night 8 of the World Tag League as the slow starters begin to catch up and relationships begin to develop. Hiromu and Finlay become a bit Dierks and Katy, and we kick off with a new opening!
James & Christy catch you up on the week's action as NJPW World Tag League continues. El Desperado & Shuji Ishikawa pick up some surprising wins, Toru Yano & Oleg Boltin also impress and some of the bigger names struggle with momentum.
James looks at this week's action from New Japan's World Tag League on nights 3 & 4.
James and Christy round up the action of the first two night's of this year's World Tag League as New Japan put together some very interesting pairings in what looks to be a non traditional approach to the tournament, but with the established teams of Knockout Brothers and Bishamon as hot favourites. Segues include: War Dragon's Bro Love WXW 16 Karat Gold Tana's final opponent and the problems with being perceptive and paying attention
Welcome to the Squared Circle Podcast! I am your host Marie Shadows! When "jokes" fall flat, and truths are blocked - a twitter story In this episode, Marie Shadows dives into the intricacies of professional wrestling and the ongoing issues within major companies like New Japan Pro Wrestling and AEW. While defending New Japan's unique position in the wrestling ecosystem, Marie explores how different cultures have shaped pro wrestling across the world. The discussion also touches on the importance of constructive criticism and honest debate in wrestling fandom. Marie stresses the need for professionalism online and highlights a key Twitter moment involving WWE's Netflix move, urging the wrestling community to keep it classy.Marie Shadows defends New Japan Pro Wrestling while exploring cultural influences on the wrestling world. She discusses the importance of constructive criticism, professional conduct on social media, and calls for honest wrestling debates in this latest podcast episode. Bullet Points Summary Marie Shadows defends New Japan Pro Wrestling despite its flaws. Discusses how different cultures (Japan, America, Mexico) created unique wrestling styles. Stresses the importance of constructive criticism in wrestling fandom. Emphasizes the need for professionalism when engaging online. Recaps a controversial Twitter moment involving WWE's Netflix move. Calls for keeping debates about wrestling authentic and honest. Extra context pulled from my YouTube Community Tab & my own Twitter: Telling the truth gets you blocked. What are these plenty of "incentives" to actively support NJPW? I've supported & still no incentives. I've actively told my fans to sign up for NJPW World - no incentives. Why do fans never *fully* explain themselves? They say things & block. NJPW stars - who haven't yet signed to AEW - get secondhand treatment & become jobbers to AEW stars. Ishii is a prime example of this treatment despite TK saying: I LOVE ISHII! ISHII IS GREAT! No one cared about Ishii. No reaction. No understanding of his character or move set. The flip side: DDT Pro/AEW wrestler, Konosuke got the STAR treatment during the G1 this year by defeating ESTABLISHED NJPW wrestlers. Yeah, he lost later but that does damage to main roster of NJPW by changing fans PERCEPTION of those wrestlers. https://youtu.be/_Uq9WqpM60Q You don't need to watch a full episode of AEW to understand the issues - very SOLVABLE issues - that are playing out in REAL TIME. Contextual clips & research work fine to get a conclusion. I work in the business, I LOVE THIS - I can spot the issues & WANT wrestling to improve. The Tuesday Night Wars, if just for one week, were upon us, and Chris and Marty breakdown the highs, lows and the aftershocks of a crazy night of pro wrestling. PLUS! All the AEW events of the week, the latest from NJPW including a refresh to NJPW World, and as you'd expect -- a lengthy derailment into THE OREGON TRAIL.
There were piles of news and notes this week, and Steven and Jeremy discussed Eddie Kingston's busy schedule defending the NJPW Strong title, upcoming positive changes to NJPW World, newly announced matches for several NJPW shows, plus Taichi and SHO's wacky King of Pro Wrestling title stipulations. Jeremy and Steven also talked about New Japan wrestlers appearing around the world, including Rocky Romero in a major match at CMLL's Anniversary show, Will Ospreay facing Naomichi Marufuji in NOAH and Kosei Fujita teaming with Robbie Eagles in a main event in Australia. They also looked at the past weekend's Korakuen Hall and Kobe shows, the injuries to Boltin Oleg and Yoshinobu Kanemaru, and how the booking has made SANADA look even weaker than he already seemed.
On this week's Keepin' It Strong Style episode, Jeremy Donovan and the "Young Boy" Josh Smith review the beginning of the Road to Destruction tour. Wheeler Yuta is corronated in blood on AEW Rampage. -NJPW finally begins to work on bringing over American talent again. WrestleMania Week has come and gone! Episode 159 of No One's Ready For Wrestling discusses WrestleMania 38 and what I thought was the best night! Cody Rhodes makes his WWE return! Why I enjoyed Johnny Knoxville vs Sami Zayn? Rick Boogs is out of action with a injury. Jeff Hardy confirms that AEW will be the last run for The Hardy's. Matt Hardy wants to bring back the BROKEN Universe in AEW. Dax Harwood says the match between FTR vs The Briscoes at Supercard Of Honor was the best match of his career and I put it up there as one of their greatest matches. Speaking of Supercard Of Honor, ROH did over 20,000 PPV buys with Supercard Of Honor. Lelya Hirsch possibly injured during an AEW Dark: Elevation tapings. Toni Storm considered retiring from wrestling before joining AEW. AEW Dynamite & Rampage episodes to air on NJPW World which I think is a great move for the company. What was not a good move by Tony Khan was tweeting about bots and gets blasted by people on social media (Including Becky Lynch who wins Savage Tweet Of The Week). Samoa Joe makes his presence in AEW and qualified in the Owen Hart Tournament. FTR and The Young Bucks II once again delivered an awesome tag team wrestling match in the main event. Shino talks about the situation involving Nash Carter/Kimber Lee situation (WARNING!!! RANT ALERT!!!). Nash Carter released by the company, but what was the reason? Tammy Sytch seriously needs some help after news came out when she was driving impaired and causing a fatal car crash. Pat Buck leaves WWE after WrestleMania. Agreeing with Seth Rollins that 3 hours of RAW is too long and he wants it to be 2 hours. A disappointing RAW after WrestleMania. Veer finally arrives, but how did the crowd react? Elias is back, or is he? GUNTHER, Marcel Barthel (now going by Ludwig Klaus), and Raquel Gonzalez (now going by Raquel Rodriguez) officially get called up to the main roster. The next opponent for Roman Reigns revealed on SmackDown. Roman wants the Tag Team Titles to be unified and I've been saying it for years on having one tag team titles, but I won't believe it till I see it. Finally, a excellent star making performance by Wheeler Yuta on Rampage against Jon Moxley. We continue our lore keeping journey on Following Lucha this week by watching and analyzing season one episode six of Lucha Underground, "The Key." From Son of Havoc getting beat up by a little person and a crossdresser, to Dario Cueto pissing on Johnny Mundo's leg, to Drago being a shoot real life dragon, to Sexy Star kinda fumbling her first major main event match, episode 6 was decent! We also talk wrestling in the week of December 3, 2014 as NJPW World is launched, CM Punk joins Colt Cabana on The Art of Wrestling episode 226, and Vince McMahon sits down for an interview on the Stone Cold Steve Austin SHow. Also, major retirement news from WWE legends Fandango and Triple H, CM Punk v. Dax Harwood almost makes Jacy' cry, and Sammy Guevara came on the TNT championship! When is Veer coming?? Why does Dave Meltzer have a gun?! Follow the podcast: Find the show - @FollowingLucha Find Jacy' - @JacyAccentMark Find Steven - @Ixaverse

This week on Wrestling Omakase we take our third completely randomized look back at shows that took place inside the Big Egg, the Tokyo Dome!John is joined by returning guest & VOW contributor Jeri Evagood (@TheJerriest_Jer) for her record TENTH appearance of the year! Wow! John crowns her MVP (Most Valuable Podcaster) before they get into what they've both been up to, including Christmas, worrying about Omicron cancelling their plans, and a whole lot more. Plus there's some discussion of Jeri's semi-recent Atlantic City trip, and John's pre-emptive year end thoughts ahead of next week's 2021 Year End Awards episode. Once that's out of the way they get into their topic, which is six randomly selected matches from six randomly selected Tokyo Dome shows (all Dome shows were eligible, not just 1/4 and not just NJPW). As always, stop reading here if you want to be surprised, but if you'd like to know beforehand here they are below:1. Great Muta vs. Masahiro Chono, NJPW 1/4/93 (NJPW World: https://front.njpwworld.com/p/s_series_00114_1_7)2. Sports writer and Channel 6 co-founder Spencer Hall, formerly a contributor to SBNation and the founder of Every Day Should Be Saturday, joins Gavin Purcell on today's podcast to talk about his obsession with Japanese wrestling! And specifically, Spencer is way too interested in one athlete from the New Japan Pro Wrestling circuit: Kota Ibushi, who Spencer describes as both "the greatest wrestler alive" and also the answer to the question "what if Michael Jordan had just done Space Jam for 10 years?" Then, they're joined by Chris Charlton, who announces Japanese pro wrestling in English for NJPWWorld.com. Chris explains how Kota has bridged the gap between old and new fans of the sport, what makes him so compelling, and his humble ambitions to become God.
