On this week's Wrestling Tonight, we're diving into all the drama, surprises, and seismic moments from an unforgettable WrestleMania 41 weekend in Las Vegas. John Cena etched his name in the history books by defeating Cody Rhodes to become a 17-time world champion—surpassing Ric Flair's storied record. While undeniably historic, the match left fans divided: a legacy-defining moment for Cena, yet a puzzling conclusion to Rhodes' reign. And the WrestleMania headlines didn't stop in the ring. WWE officially announced its acquisition of Lucha Libre AAA, setting the stage for a “Worlds Collide” event with NXT this June. Triple H described it as a chance to elevate lucha libre on a global scale, though many are waiting to see how this merger will affect AAA's creative identity and independence. While WWE was making headlines, AEW delivered one of its strongest weeks of the year. Jon Moxley laid down a challenge to Samoa Joe, Nick Wayne captured the ROH TV Title, Josh Alexander made his surprise debut by joining the Don Callis Family, and Forbidden Door was announced for London's iconic O2 Arena. Back at WrestleMania, Jey Uso shocked the world by forcing Gunther to tap out in the opening match, and in the Night One main event, Paul Heyman dramatically aligned with Seth Rollins, who pinned Roman Reigns in a chaotic triple threat. Standout performances came from IYO SKY, Dominik Mysterio, and Drew McIntyre, while Night Two delivered a mix of highs and lows—an ongoing conversation on this week's show. Beyond the matches, the week was filled with headline-making moments. WWE President Nick Khan defended the company's “underdog” mentality. John Cena reflected on his relationship with Vince McMahon. CM Punk discussed WWE's push for a new five-year contract. And Roman Reigns opened up about his future in the ring. We also cover Sabu's emotional and brutal retirement match at Spring Break, Brodie Lee Jr.'s in-ring debut, and key developments from the WWE ID and NXT tournaments. With major movement across WWE, AEW, TNA, and NJPW, there's no shortage of stories to unpack. It's been a week of milestones, power moves, and turning points—and Wrestling Tonight is here to guide you through it all. Follow us on social @turnbuckletavern, support the show on Patreon for just $2.99/month, and until next week—stay out of the alley and away from the pork and beans. God luck and good speed.

Episode 19 is here pals! It's our Chris Things Art "Match of the Week" Edition with returning guest host, my dear friend, Jon Craft to discuss a 'Mask vs Mask' apuestas match that I absolutely LOVED; Blue Panther vs Villano V! This wonderfully heated Lucha Libre FIGHT of a match took place back in 2008 at CMLL's 75th Anniversary Show in the holy grounds for lucha that is Arena Mexico. We chat all about this great match & Jon even provides translations of the touchingly emotional post-match unmasking ceremony. We also talk the general nonsense that has come to be expected. From the latest on the Chicago indue wrestling scene, a disagreement on the ethics of deep-dish pizza & the upcoming retirement of one of both of our favourites, the man called STING! After the emotional and sometimes brutal New Beginning in Osaka, New Japan took a lighter-hearted turn this week with Fantasticamania, when the stars of CMLL come to Japan for a brief tour filled with their brand of exciting lucha libre. It's also a time for some New Japan stars to loosen up, with Taiji Ishimori, Hiromu Takahashi, El Desperado, Hiroshi Tanahashi and others getting in on the act. Steven and Jeremy discussed seeing CMLL's Mistico, Mascara Dorada, Atlantis Jr., ,Volador Jr., Titan, Ultimo Guerrero, Soberano Jr. and others. They also looked at the first night of the tour from Osaka, and how Volador and Rocky Romero set things up for a class later in the week. They looked at key matchups ahead, including a women's match featuring Starlight Kid and Ruaka from STARDOM. Plus, they talked about how others who have made news in New Japan, such as Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley and more will have a huge match in Arena Mexico later this month as part of these major promotions working with one another.

Has her Road to WrestleMania hit a Roadblock? More details have been revealed about WWE 2K24. Are we excited for the latest release in the 2K series? AEW goes to Arena Mexico as BCC travels across the border to take on the biggest stars in CMLL. Kazuchika Okada, Will Ospreay, and Mercedes Mone are about to inject AEW with a massive shot in the arm. The likes of which have not been seen since the Summer of 2021. Some fans are accusing AEW of raiding their partner promotion NJPW. Is this accurate? We don't think so.

Episode 5 is here! We're back for our Chris Things Art "Match of the Week" Series with my best mate, David to talk some CMLL goodness! This week we're talking all about Rocky Romero & Volador Jr.'s absolutely wonderful CMLL, Arena Mexico match for the World Historic Welterweight Championship from January 20, 2023. We talk about the match in question, my illustration of said match & a whole bunch of rambling nonsense. A really fun chat between mates about all the things we love about CMLL (including a lot that seem to go under-appreciated in general lucha libre discourse), the art of lucha libre in general & even a bit about David's own background as a masked wrestling fish turned hardened ex-con as 'Skinny D' of the famed 'Wacol's Most Wanted' Australian wrestling tag-team. Enjoy!!Check out the Chris Things MOTW illustration that we are talking about here!Check out ChrisThings.com.au for original art, prints, calendars & much more!Follow us on Instagram: @ChrisThings, @SocialSuplexFollow us on Twitter: @ChrisThings, @SocialSuplexLike us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SocialSuplex/Join our Discord: https://discord.gg/QUaJfaCVisit our website for news, columns, and podcasts: https://socialsuplex.com/Join the Social Suplex community Facebook Group: The Wrestling (Squared) CircleWrestling-Art with Chris Things is the Pro-Wrestling Art niche Podcast of the Social Suplex Podcast Network. Note: This episode was recorded before the car accident that Dom was in with Joshua Bishop, Derek Dillinger, and Marino Tenaglia over the weekend. Thankfully, it looks like all four of them are going to be fine.Kris and David are joined by "The Bone Collector" Dominic Garrini (@dgarrinibc) to discuss the week that was March 8-14, 2000. We start off with ECW and their Living Dangerously PPV, featuring the original insane New Jack/Vic Grimes scaffold spot, which was scary as hell, as well as Steve Corino going scorched earth on The Sandman's wife, Scotty Anton making his "debut,” the overall crazy booking and terrible production values of the show, Paul Heyman ranting to the Torch, and lots more in a very entertaining section.Next, we move on to the World Wrestling Federation, where Buh Buh Ray Dudley nearly kills Mae Young on an episode of Raw that also saw the return of Vince McMahon after being off TV since Stephanie's heel turn in December, as well asthe Mean Street Posse being awesome while pursuing the Hardcore Title. We also talk some Smackdown, TSN's editing of Raw, L. Brent Bozell wackiness, the Lionel Tate murder case, and even some reviews of Beyond the Mat.Then we go to the UFC for one of their most controversial moments ever, as they announce the main event of their UFC 24 PPV, Kevin Randleman vs. Pedro Rizzo, had to be cancelled due to a freak accident, but didn't announce it until the time for the main event to begin despite knowing for most of the broadcast. Kris has some stories about watching that in real time, particularly with regards to his and his friends' anger at how this went down. We also talk about the rest of the show as well some other MMA happenings.International is next, as All Japan gets bad news about their TV time slot, there's a wacky shoot angle with the Great Muta in New Japan, the Rikidozan Memorial Show takes place featuring Ron Reis as B.B. JONES!!!!!!!!!!!!, Perro Aguayo returns to Arena Mexico after eight years away, Chicky Starr jumps from the WWC to IWAPR, and tons more.We then go back to the U.S.A. for the indie scene, featuring early JAPW and CZW results, Screech showing up on Memphis Championship Wrestling to declare his love for The Kat/Stacy Carter, Dave Meltzer attends an All Pro Wrestling show, and more.WCW closes out the show, as we talk about their big U.K. tour, where morale was in the toilet despite the trip doing very well financially. We also talk about a couple of crazy-assed episodes of Thunder and Nitro featuring Team Package trying to recruit Arn Anderson and so much more insanity that makes it a must listen section.Helluva show here, folks, and a long one, too, so buckle up!!!!Timestamps:0:00:00 ECW1:17:14 WWF & Beyond the Mat2:12:41 UFC2:47:18 Classic Commercial Break2:50:48 Halftime…sort of2:52:03 Japan: AJPW, NJPW, Rikidozan Memorial, Super J-Cup, BattlARTS, FMW, Michinoku Pro, Onita Pro, PRIDE FC, RINGS, AJW, GAEA, & LLPW3:43:13 Latin America: AAA, CMLL, IWRG, & IWAPR3:56:53 Other USA: USA Pro, CWF (NJ), JAPW, CZW, FWA, IWACW, NWA Nashville, MemphisCW, MPPW, & APW4:41:50 WCW6:43:08 Patreon Preview: Bruce Mitchell on Paul Heyman and Eddie Gilbert working promoters and reportersTo support the show and get access to exclusive rewards like special members-only monthly themed shows, go to our Patreon page at Patreon.com/BetweenTheSheets and become an ongoing Patron. This week Fax checked an item off his pro wrestling bucketlist! Chris and Fax discuss attending CMLL at Arena Mexico! Also, Jon Moxley made another masked man bleed...
This week Chris and Garrett chat the many wrestling shows that took place over the weekend including Matt Tremont's Angels of Death womens tournment, GCW in LA, NJPW's Battle in the Valley and Elimination Chamber. Also, Chris wears a deep V and Blimp Levy does the splits!
Kris & David are back with another Patron-requested episode of BTS, as our guest Patron Tyler Gignac (@Tyler_Gignac) wanted us to talk about the week that was November 9-15, 1997. The reason why he picked this week was because it featured the first ever WWF live event he ever went to in his life in Barrie, Ontario, which was also the first ever WWF show in that city, period. We start with the WWF what's naturally a crazy section because we talk about Survivor Series '97, though like last week we don't go in-depth on the Bret Hart drama outside of Tyler giving his thoughts on the situation. We also talk about Raw the next night featuring Shawn Michaels going wild, the Raw taping the night after that, and house shows attended by both Tyler (Barrie) and Bix (MSG) that week. Again, there's a lot to talk about here, so you don't want to miss this.We then go international. where Masahiro Chono gives a worked shoot interview to Tokyo Sports putting over All Japan, we actually have IWA Kokusai results for once and get to talk about VIOLENCE REVENGER, and new joshi promotions are starting up in the form of NEO and Arsion. Then we go to Latin America, talking about early Toryumon guys at Arena Mexico, Fake Razor Ramon feuding with Carlos Colon in Puerto Rico, and a lot more. Then, after a very short U.S. indie section, we close with WCW, talking about Starrcade ticket sales booming, Eric Bischoff announcing Bret Hart's impending arrival live on Nitro (which was a crazy show in of itself), and Hulk Hogan getting worried about the political ramifications of Bret coming in.Another 1997 show in the books and this is one you can't miss!!!!Timestamps:0:00:00 WWF1:38:39 Eurasia: AJPW, NJPW, BJPW, DDT, FMW, Fuyuki Army, IWA Kokusai, Michinoku Pro, Kingdom, NEO/Arsion announcements, AJW, JWP, LLPW, & CWA1:59:18 Classic Commercial Break2:03:32 Halftime2:35:01 Latin America: AAA, CMLL, IWRG, Promo Azteca, Tijuana, & WWC2:50:03 Other USA: ECW, MEWF, IWAMS, & Music City3:00:03 WCW3:49:54 Patreon Preview: May Bret Hart's actual pre-Survivor Series column for the Calgary Sun please stand up?To support the show and get access to exclusive rewards like special members-only monthly themed shows, go to our Patreon page at Patreon.com/BetweenTheSheets and become an ongoing Patron. Kris & David are joined this week by Between The Sheets patron and Bloodstorm Pro promoter Eric Pavlacka (@JustExister) to discuss the week that was September 28-October 4, 2005. You can have the chance to join us for a show as well by signing up for our Patreon making a $50 (one segment) or $100 (whole show) pledge.Eric wanted to do this week because it was the 17th anniversary of the legendary Kenta Kobashi vs. Samoa Joe match in New York for Ring of Honor, which was a show that both he and Bix were in attendance for. We talk in depth about that match as well as the whole ROH weekend in general, as they came back the next night in Philadelphia for Kobashi teaming with Low-Ki to face Joe & Homicide on a show that also featured the debut of Jim Cornette as the ROH authority figure and much more.We also talk about the debut of TNA Impact on Spike TV featuring the debut of Team 3D, as well as how the promotion was handling the move.We then go International talking about Team 3D making their debut in AJPW, a new IWGP Heavyweight Championship belt being made for NJPW, and Bob Sapp beating Jun Akiyama in WRESTLE-1, as well as all the Japanese indies, before going to England where we talk about the debut of 1PW featuring a stacked lineup, Antonio Peña coming back to AAA TV tapings while seriously ill, Atlantis making his official rudo debut at Arena Mexico, and tons more.WWE closes the show as Vince McMahon makes a major play to hire Mike Goldberg to become the new lead announcer for Raw going into Raw Homecoming, their return to USA Network. We also have a very wacky SmackDown and much more, as well.A tremendous show, so check it out!!!
