Welcome to an all-new bonus episode of Films for the Void! In this episode, Landon interviews Mitch Gulish - the guitarist of Kalamazoo, MI emo trio Saturdays at Your Place. The band had a pretty stellar 2023, with the release of their EP Always Cloudy, as well as contributed to a three-way split with Summerbruise and Shoplifter, both out now on No Sleep Records. Not only that, but they capped it off by touring with Free Throw across the United States last fall. If you missed them last year, however, you'll have plenty of other chances to see them in 2024, starting with a short Midwest headlining run with Charmer, and then as openers across the U.S. on the Wax Bodega tour with Arm's Length, Carly Cosgrove, and Ben Quad.Landon chats with Mitch about growing up in Michigan, the Michigan music scene, memories of attending the Vans Warped Tour, finding his place in Kalamazoo, Saturdays at Your Place, touring the United States, and their rise in the emo scene - all on the latest episode of Films for the Void!LISTEN to Saturdays at Your Place: https://open.spotify.com/artist/69Kp4bE7aUWEPrmTwmhVZRTIME STAMPS00:00:00 Interview w/ Mitch Gulish00:30:10 Round Robin Movie DiscussionTWITTER: @films_void$3/MONTH PATREON: patreon.com/films_voidLANDON'S TWITTER @igotdefevermanLANDON'S INSTAGRAM @duhfeverLANDON'S LETTERBOXD @landondefeverERIC'S TWITTER @ericwiththehairERIC'S INSTAGRAM @ericwiththebeardERIC'S LETTERBOXD @ericwiththehairArtwork by Annie CurleTheme Music by Meghan Gove
We have Saturdays At Your Place on a special Saturday release of BTV! So, hopefully BTV can spend this Saturday at your place... The band first met in college and quickly recognized the incredible house show scene in Michigan. After creating a catalogue of songs that was enough to hit the road, the emo outlet decided to hit the road once the pandemic cooled down. Since then, there has been nothing but praise from listeners across the country, as they have seen a quick and steady rise through the emo rankings. The proof is in the facts as they amass about 128,000 monthly listeners on Spotify alone and are about to begin a monster of a tour with legendary bands such as Free Throw, Prince Daddy & The Hyena, and Charmer. If you can't get enough of their debut album always cloudy then you are in luck! Earlier this month the band released a single called pourover which is included on a split that the group did with Shoplifter and Summerbruise. The split dropped on 11/17 through No Sleep Records.

This interview is with Seth and Thomas of Good Sleepy out of Worcester, MA. We had a full conversation about their debut full-length album called “everysinglelittlebit” that came out with No Sleep Records. This album was largely written and recorded during the pandemic. It has themes of wanting to go back to childhood when things were easier, change, long distance relationships, and the expectations from family members. This week, join us as we listen to the 2020 release from Lansing, Michigan's own Hot Mulligan. Released on No Sleep Records, their sophomore album is titled you'll be fine. In 2015, Hot Mulligan released two EPs titled Fenton and Honest & Cunning via Michigan-based label Save Your Generation Records. After signing to No Sleep Records in 2017, Hot Mulligan re-released an EP titled Opportunities (original release on Save Your Generation). In 2018, Hot Mulligan released their debut full-length album titled Pilot on No Sleep Records. In 2020, they released their second album, you'll be fine, also on No Sleep. Fronted by lead singer Nathan "Tades" Sanville, Hot Mulligan falls into the emo/math rock camp. When asked about their cryptic song titles, Tades said "Almost none of the titles are significant in any way to the track. They're just dumb inside jokes that we think make good song titles." In this episode, I have the opportunity to sit down with The Sweller's drummer Jonathan "Jono" Diener. Jonathan is also the front man for his most recent musical project Baggage. He's also in the musical projects Braided Veins and No Trigger. Jonathan has recently been working to promote his new coffee company Rootless Coffee out of Flint Michigan where he lives. Jonathan and I talk about marketing, creativity, and identity, and how they are all interconnected when it comes to pursuing new projects. Whether it be playing in bands, starting companies, or writing blogs and articles, Jono does a great job at juggling a lot of plates and producing a lot of really cool things. It was a pleasure to talk with him, and I think anyone with a passion for creativity and art will take something away from our conversation. Enjoy! The Swellers were an American punk band from Flint, Michigan. Their music is influenced by melodic punk rock bands as well as alternative and indie rock from the 1990s. It was announced April 22, 2011, through Alternative Press that the new album titled Good For Me would be released on June 14, where one of the new tracks called "Best I Ever Had" could be streamed. In April 2012 they announced their departure from the Fueled by Ramen label. They would release a 7" (Vehicle City Blues) on Side One Dummy Records. On October 16, The Swellers self-released an EP entitled Running Out Of Places To Go. It is composed of five songs that the band recorded and produced independently. The Swellers signed to No Sleep Records in May 2013 and announced in August 2013 that they would be releasing their 4th full length, The Light Under Closed Doors, on October 29. On April 15, 2014, The Swellers announced via Facebook their release of "B-sides and Rarities." On June 24, 2014 they announced via Facebook and Twitter that they are breaking up and booking farewell shows. In February and March 2015, the band performed at Soundwave festival in Australia. On May 1, 2015, they played their last show at Groezrock. LET'S CONNECT: Kyle's Instagram Kyle's Facebook Email: Kyledevlinfitness@gmail.com

As a young child, he began taking piano lessons, and would eventually grow to play other instruments such as drums and marimba. He bought his first MIDI keyboard and DAW when he was 19 after discovering GarageBand on his sister's computer. A short time after his artistic interests spread to include poetry and songwriting; he quickly began integrating all these media into full musical productions. Nokay has studied under several producers, and has recorded in studios across the country to develop the craft of vocal performance. All these are woven together in his debut single "Fear", which has been featured on the Huffington Post, Vents Magazine, Tattoo, and many more. Nokay released his first four track EP entitled The One I Feed on March 9th, 2018. Find out more @ www.nokayofficial.com

What happens when you put five people in a room to discuss the emo revival? Lots and lots of laughs. Late last year, CMJ asked Washed Up Emo to moderate a panel to discuss the revival and we were up the task. For the panel we had a great group of young and old perspectives with Norman Brannon (Texas is the Reason, Collect Records), Kevin Duquette (Topshelf Records), Sean Moran (No Sleep Records) and Brian Pacris (The Syndicate, co-host of #EmoNightNYC). See? Emo ain't all about sadness. (Note: We only had three microphones so it may be hard to hear some questions from the audience.) Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/washedupemo)
This week's interview is with the New Jersey pop-punk band, MAJOR LEAGUE. We speak candidly with the boys of Major League about near death experiences, departing from their former lead singer Nick Trask, Modern Baseball, Sports, Musical origins, traveling around the world and MORE in today's audio adventure. This episode features exerts from the band's live performance at the 7th Circle Music Collective in Denver, Colorado.
This episode is presented by No Sleep Records. On a bit of a departure from your "typical" guest on the show, Steve Rennie is the manager of major rock band Incubus as well as the curator/instructor of his own music industry course called Renman Music. He invited me over to his house and we discussed the music business in general, motivation and (to my excitement) golf. For anyone interested in the music industry, this is required listening. I had been looking forward to sitting down with Chris Hansen, the owner of No Sleep Records, for awhile as he is one of my close friends. He really opened about many things such as his social anxiety, his fathers passing and how No Sleep Records was born. It was a great chat and I hope you enjoy.
