Brooklyn Folk Festival kicks off at St Ann's Church on Friday, November 10, through Sunday. The concerts will feature veterans and newer names in folk, from Ramblin' Jack Elliot and The Fugs to Jake Blount and Nora Brown. The spring schedule was thrown into some chaos with the announcement of our first award event in four years, but we've managed to put together a series of seven films and a roundtable discussion to celebrate the career of Jodie Foster. The actor, director, and producer has done a great amount of impressive work over the last 50 years, which will be discussed at our Dryden Roundtable discussion featuring Curator of Film Exhibitions Jared Case sitting down with Nora Brown, Executive Director of the Rochester/Finger Lakes Film Office, as well as film professors Kendall Phillips (Syracuse University) and Carter Soles (SUNY Brockport). The roundtable takes place Saturday, May 6, at 2pm, and all George Eastman Museum members receive free admission. All other tickets are just $10. The films range from drama to science fiction to thriller, and span the length of Foster's career.

This year marks the centennial of legendary North Carolina folk musician Doc Watson, one of the giants of the folk revival of the 50s and 60s. There's a new album paying homage to pays homage to Watson's lasting legacy and influence on American music, which features a stellar cast of contemporary musicians playing some of the songs Watson had championed; it's called I Am A Pilgrim – Doc Watson at 100. The producer of the collection is Grammy Award winning guitarist, songwriter, and producer Matthew Stevens, who gathered a few of the album's featured musicians and collaborators - singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Valerie June, Brooklyn-born teen banjo wunderkind Nora Brown, fiddler Stephanie Coleman, and musician James Shipp - to play some of these songs in-studio. On this episode, I am joined by Nora Brown who has over 10 years coaching experience and now helps others become more confident, fearless and specialises in dealing with imposter syndrome. I met Nora through a networking group and instantly clicked with her and loved everything that she was creating. I felt very inspired by her content, her words and more importantly, her story.   Nora was living a normal life when one day, decided to quit her corporate job and also leave her long term relationship. It was a liberating experience at the time.  Whilst in a good head space, she then stumbled into a toxic relationship with a narcissist and entered what was 6 years of hell.
