The POWER of Surrendering outcomes when your loved one has a sex addiction. Feeling weighed down? Do thoughts of your loved one's addiction consume your thoughts? I relate. Let's explore how to function from a place of peace in this week's episode: The POWER of SURRENDERING. NOTE: Next week I will be doing a Question and Answer episode. I welcome recovery and/ or personal questions regarding my own recovery by contacting me on Instagram, Facebook, or from the contact tab on the betrayaltraumasos.com website. I certainly don’t have all of the answers but can offer what I have learned as well as consult with others who are farther ahead in recovery. I do pledge confidentiality and anonymity. I have definitely tried to control my husband’s addiction. For the first 17.5 years of our marriage, I thought I was being a great wife by almost never withholding sex, and oftentimes offering it more often. Imagine my shock as we sat in a formal disclosure with our therapist to learn that not only had I not controlled his addiction with sex, but I also made it worse. With eyes wide open that I was truly powerless, I was able to make better choices and set better boundaries. Episode 5 titled: You Can’t Fix Sex Addiction With Sex goes into more detail about that issue if you’d like to check that out. The WHY WHY do we try to control? That question carries with it heart-wrenching answers. The why is important and too often we focus on the resulting behaviors without looking deeper. When we don’t look at the why, it is easy to start living in a breeding ground for shame. The why helps us to stay curious and to be gentle with ourselves as we strive to change our shape. Motives for control might include financial repercussions, a desire for connection, the desire to not suffer heartbreaking consequences, to rescue our loved ones and more. I truly thought that I was controlling the outcome of my husband’s addiction, but in all reality, it was not true. I had zero power and in the process of trying to control, I became miserable. SURRENDER Here’s a question for each of us to consider: What would life look like if we could let go of control and really live life again? What hobbies might we take up, what friendships might we cultivate, and what would our homes look like? It’s lovely to dream sometimes. It is possible to live the dream and to find power in surrendering. From the book Letting Go: The Pathway of Surrender by David R. Hawkins, he says this, quote “the more you pull on the rope to hitch yourself up to where you want to be, the more frazzled it becomes. Possibly, you might be wondering, “Isn’t there an easier, better way?” Are you willing to let go of the rope?” What’s the solution then? How can we live life more fully? What can we do to no longer live in fear? What can we do to let go of our frayed and frazzled ropes? One tool that can be helpful in recovery is that of surrender. Letting go of the rope looks different for everyone. For me, surrender is more of a process and is a continual effort. I’m learning that when I can identify the roots of fear, I can identify what to work on surrendering the outcome. The Process of Surrender Doesn’t the thought of living in peace sound lovely? *sigh* I agree. To live in peace is a strong desire of mine, but how do we do that? How do we achieve that level of serenity? How do people actually surrender? Oftentimes it’s easy to get lost in the big picture of our situations. In this episode, we'll discuss the song "The Next Right Thing," from Frozen 2 as it relates focusing on the next step instead of the overwhelming big picture.
Hot weather vs cold weather? That’s the start of our discussion this week. Also, who wants to live in the cold? Ok! Stephanie does! We then discuss favorite movies and learn which ones have defined our lives, so far. Lastly, we test the spit-fire session of Would You Rather questions.Note: Next week’s episode won’t launch until Tuesday. As we prepare for next week's Master and Apprentice book review, we start this week's show with a discussion about the underrated Timothy Zahn Thrawn Trilogy of books. I (Eric) am almost done reading the second book of the series, Thrawn: Alliances. See the links below if you would like to join me in reading these fantastic novels.Thrawn by Timothy ZahnThrawn: Alliances by Timothy ZahnThrawn: Treason by Timothy Zahn0:03:19The Cantina (Star Wars News/General Discussion): A recent Bloomberg report stated that the new Star Wars trilogy isn't connecting with younger fans. Is this true? If it is true, is there something deeper going on than what is stated in the report? Join us as we explore why Star Wars may not be connecting with younger fans. There is a rumor that JJ Abrams is drawing from the Expanded Universe (now Legends) of books/comics to include in The Rise of Skywalker. Is this a smart move? Finally, we wrap up our general discussion by exploring whether or not the Sequel Trilogy was rushed, and would've been better served as six movies.0:32:47Duel of the Fates (Face Off Questions):Luke (Return of the Jedi) vs. Anakin (Revenge of the Sith)-----who was the better Jedi?We really dueled it out in this segment, as we debate who was the better Jedi, and had more potential. Was it Luke Skywalker during the Return of the Jedi era, where he definitely had command of his powers, but was still relatively new to the Force. Or was it Anakin, who had years of Jedi training, but was also beginning to channel the Dark Side of the Force?0:46:55From a Certain Point of View (Featured Topic):News dropped recently that we will see the second Rise of Skywalker trailer at D23, which is August 23 - 25. This is much sooner than what was speculated, which was us not getting a trailer until October. Is this a good idea? Is this a smart marketing move, or is it another example of Disney mishandling the franchise?0:58:03Clear Your Mind of Questions (Q and A): I’m starting to feel in the Force that Rey is Kylo’s sister, what do your feelings tell you?--- Submitted by John McCormick I have heard rumors of Force Flow being in The Rise of Skywalker. I’m excited to see that on the big screen, what about you?--- Submitted by Salim Mukarrah n NOTE: Next week we will be reviewing the book, Master and Apprentice (Claudia Gray). There's still time to read the book, and join in on the discussion. You can purchase the book from our Amazon Affiliate link HERE.As we mention in this week's episode, don't forget to check out Star Wars Theory's YouTube channel, and their excellent series on the original Return of the Jedi script breakdown.

You will encounter the use of cannabis as a member of the audience. Fortunately there is no second hand smoke. All content is presented by a responsible adult, and listeners should be the same. Take responsibility for your own actions, be safe and more importantly, smart- when listening to this podcast. Strain of The Week: AC/DC By Gold Line Concentrates, scooped at Have a Heart in Skyway WA, because it was beautiful and inexpensive, and we should all be dabbling (and dabbing on!) some high CBD strains. NOTE: Next episode we will pick up where we left off on the Saga of Jesus, with an exploration of Joseph Atwill’s “Caesar’s Messiah” and a theory that Jesus of Nazareth was a creation of the Roman State. As scary as that notion is to some folks, and we’re not here to judge- This week, in celebration of the spookiest time of year, I thought we would change things up, and have a bit of good old fashioned storytime. For that true, vintage, horror vibe, we are reaching deep into the stacks of dusty old stories, to an era when a person could pen a 3800 word poem, and amidst its circumlocutions, enounce a tale of woe to last the ages. A story destined to become a legend, woven into the very fabric of reality in the form of memorable lines that live on as permanent memes of the english language, for who among us old enough to grow (wanted or unwanted) whiskers on our bodies does not know and has not wittily quipped once upon a thirsty but rainy hike, boat ride, etc- “Water water everywhere, and not a drop to drink!”, probably to the hearty groans and eye rolls of any companions. Or, perhaps just as well known, yet equally obscure to most in its origins, the universal oath of a lamented but inescapable burden, or blame to be borne- “It’s an albatross around their neck”. These classic zingers and more are to be discovered today, as The Baked and Awake Show presents to you, faithful listener, Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s “The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere” A few points of interest about the author before diving in, that we may better appreciate them. Samuel Taylor Coleridge was born on October 21, 1772, almost 246 years ago to the day of this recording. Happy Birthday, Mister Coleridge, may you rest in peace. Coleridge was British by birth, and had a fascination with and a desire to create and live in a reformed, communal lifestyle in the “New World”, whereby people would live under “Equal Governance by All” or a Pantisocracy, which took its inspiration from Coleridge’s affinity for Plato’s Republic. Coleridge never realized this dream, as his co-creators of the vision for the Pantisocracy eventually matured, and took their rightful places amongst the elite of British Society. Coleridge was well known to have had financial troubles all his life, living a lifestyle of an affluent Creative mostly at the expense of his family and friends. In other words, he was your typical starving artist in his time, though somewhat respected nonetheless, due to his obvious brilliance and prolific bibliography. Coleridge was close friends with and strongly influenced by the well known author William Wordsworth, under whose’ sphere of influence Coleridge’s writing style evolved from exuberant and light hearted, to the compelling voice that would eventually cement his place amongst the leaders of the European Romantic movement of his era. Amongst his many works of poetry and fiction, Coleridge also penned a ten issue Progressive Political Journal in 1796 called “The Watchmen”. This of course reminds me of my recent episode where we discussed Conspiracy and Occult Disclosure in Comic Books and Movies, available in the podcast RSS feed, and with an accompanying video presentation on my YouTube channel, where we mentioned The famous Comic Book from the 80’s of nearly the same name. A bit sadly for me, we come to know that Coleridge struggled with Opium addiction for his entire adult life, and though he sought treatment for it a number of times, he never was able to kick the habit. One wonders if he had only had access to as much Cannabis hashish as Opium, perhaps he might have been able to free himself of the need for that powerful and somewhat consumptive (of its user) narcotic. It doesn’t take much imagination on the part of worldly readers of The Rime, to see the influence of Coleridge’s struggles with the drug within the lines of the poem, rich with language and symbolism of the classic tropes of sin and the consequences of our actions, judgement from on high of an omnipotent God, but also Karma, and the simple forgiveness of our fellow Man for what evils we have done. Finally, one more interesting work by Coleridge, for those of you for whom this episode sparks some interest in learning more about the man who gave us such a legendary story as The Rime- an unfinished but illuminating (as illuminating about the author itself, as in its inherent wisdom) essay entitled “Hints towards the formation of a more comprehensive theory of life”, written later in the artist’s life and not published until 1848, a full fourteen years after his death on July 25th 1834. In addition to my reading of the story in full, I am including both a link to, and a downloadable mp3 of, a radio adaptation of The Rime, performed on an older radio show called The Hermit’s Cave and presented by a troupe called The Weird Circle that was a lot of fun to listen to. I invite you all to listen to that version of the story as well, and decide for yourselves if the original work is superior, or is the interpretation of a modern Playwright perhaps more digestible to our ears today, for as you will soon hear, the language and poetry of Coleridge’s time was quite distinct from the present.. Steve’s Introduction: We join the tale of the Ancient Mariner with a young man, innocent of the accosting he is about to be subjected to- standing outside a wedding celebration, of which he is a close relative of the Groom himself. Our guest, taking in the evening air and dare we speculate, perhaps packing his pipe bowl- He prepares to enjoy a moment of quiet before joining the festivities in earnest. Alas, the Celebrant’s reverie is soon interrupted by an approaching stranger, the wizened figure of an old, old, Man of the Seas.. PART ONEIt is an ancient Mariner,And he stoppeth one of three.'By thy long grey beard and glittering eye,Now wherefore stopp'st thou me?The Bridegroom's doors are opened wide,And I am next of kin;The guests are met, the feast is set:May'st hear the merry din.'He holds him with his skinny hand,'There was a ship,' quoth he.'Hold off! unhand me, grey-beard loon!'Eftsoons his hand dropt he.He holds him with his glittering eye--The Wedding-Guest stood still,And listens like a three years' child:The Mariner hath his will... SC… I hope you’ve enjoyed this reading of the Rime of the Ancient Mariner, a wonderful work of horror AND poetry that I hope is new to more than a few of you, as I believe it certainly deserves its place in the annals of the greatest stories ever told. One can’t help but notice, when reading these words from two centuries ago, that at the time, the written and especially the printed word represented what 4K HD TV’s do to us today- the absolute zenith of entertainment and educational technology! Coleridge clearly crafts the words on the page in numerous places not simply to rhyme, but to make the reader smile, almost chuckle in the midst of the dismal events of the doomed mariner’s adventure, because of the at times hilarious visual gag on paper between two words. It’s completely lost in the spoken performance, and for that I sincerely apologize. One last observation that came to me unbidden, but which inspired a quick web search investigation that quickly revealed that indeed, this question has been asked and answered- but nonetheless I pose this to you, dear listener: Was The Ancient Mariner who accosted the Wedding Guest a Zombie? The answer is in today’s show notes, in the form of an insightful essay discovered at Wordsworth.org by Rebekah Owens. Alright returning friends and first time listeners, you have my thanks as always for joining me for another show. You can find links to all the sources cited in the show notes, along with links to references for additional reading, and the radio adaptation of The Rime of The Ancient Mariner by The Weird Circle. Have you ever written a blog post, one you thought was going to be brilliant, only to read it afterward and realize it falls flat? Have you ever gone back through your library of past posts, and occasionally wondered, “How did I write something this boring? If so, don't despair. I think all of us who write experience this phenomenon. The good news is you can resurrect “dead” blog posts. In this episode, I will describe 5 quick ways you can jumpstart  a dead blog post. Tip Of the Week The Grommet. Grommets are products with purpose invented by people with stories. Find something thoughtful, inspiring, innovative, or useful. Spiritual Foundations The Reckless, Dangerous, and Rebellious Prosperity Gospel I'm always a little amused when I hear a criticism leveled and those of us who believe God intended man to prosper and be in good health, especially when it sounds like this: “Oh, so you believe in the prosperity gospel?” The term itself is used with derision. Another form of this question is, “Don't tell me you're one of those ‘health and wealth gospel' believers?” I always want to reply, “Would you prefer a sickness and poverty gospel? Do you think Jesus came not to give us life, and life more abundantly, but rather sickness, and death more quickly?” Of course, I don't reply this way because I do understand that most people who say these things are speaking out of true conviction. They believe their criticism of the so-called “prosperity gospel” is valid, that the “prosperity gospel” distorts the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I do agree that the gospel of prosperity and health is reckless, dangerous, and even rebellious. It represents the reckless love of God for us as humans and his children. It is dangerous to the spirit of religion, the same spirit that led the Jewish leaders of Christ's day to nail him to a cross. It is rebellious, in the same way the Romans felt this rabble-rouser Jesus was rebellious. The gospel of prosperity, of health, of wealth, and peace for all mankind is dangerous and rebellious … against the system of the world. And that is exactly why we must embrace it. That is why the Apostle John wrote, “I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. ” (3 John 1:1) One of the most damning criticisms of the prosperity gospel is: what are we to make of people who live in Third World countries, who have no real chance of prosperity? If God really wants everyone to prosper, how could he allow such conditions to exist? I suspect that His response would be, “How can you? I left you in charge.” Ultimately, when the full Kingdom is consummated on the earth, every injustice will be set right, every person who is lost anything will be repaid seven times what they lost, and all of us will be made whole, well, and will lack nothing. That Kingdom reality is already here, but not in its fullness, and our current assignment is to bring more of that Kingdom reality to all those around us, and to every place we go. It doesn't matter that it makes us uncomfortable, it is still our assignment. Jesus modeled for us the behavior of a person in full relationship with the Father, and with the Holy Spirit. He healed every person who came to him for healing. He paid his bills-for the first part of his life by working at a trade and having a business, in the years of his ministry he paid his taxes by finding money in the mouth of a fish. If I suggested that you pay your taxes in a similar way, because you have faith in God, I would be branded as some sort of heretical “prosperity preacher”. So be it. Here's what I know: Scripture says that we are to be in good health, and to prosper in all things, even as our soul prospers. I believe it all starts with “soul prosperity”; with our mind, will, and emotions being in perfect alignment with those of the Lord. This is only possible through the indwelling life of the Holy Spirit. The more we can experience that reality, the more the reality of material wealth, and physical health, will be ours. So don't be discouraged by criticisms about the “prosperity gospel”. And don't be discouraged by the fact that you don't see everything you want to see in this regard-yet. Know that God's promises are true, he never lies, he is never late, he never fails to deliver. You are blessed immeasurably by the Creator of the universe. You are promised there will come a day when you will live in your perfected body the way it was intended to be originally, that you will suffer no illness, that you will not weep any longer, and there will be no lack of money, food, love, safety, or anything else you need. If that isn't true health and wealth, and I don't know what is. Feature Presentation: 5 Ways To Jumpstart Your Dead Blog Posts You've written a blog post, and it feels to you is though it has fallen flat. Or perhaps you're looking through your back catalog and found some old posts that really did fall flat. They got no engagement, very few if any comments, and you just feel overall it could've been better. Is there an easy and simple way to jumpstart these “dead” blog posts-shock them with the paddles, so to speak, and get their heart beating again? Absolutely! Here are 5 ways you can jumpstart a dead blog post… Headlines. Exchange that old, plain-Jane, boring headline for one that invokes emotion, uses power words, is controversial, cutting, inflammatory, or creates great hope. Go crazy and brainstorm many different headlines for your old, dead blog post. Sometimes all a post needs to bring it back to life is for someone to actually read it. The Lead. Just like a good novel or movie, a blog post needs to start in the middle of the action. It needs to capture the imagination of the reader right away. If you've written a piece that just doesn't seem to have life in it, after you've readjusted the headline, consider rewriting the “lead” (the first few sentences or paragraphs) that set up the rest of the post. Instead of relating dry facts or a boring thesis statement, perhaps you could tell story, share a personal experience,  or ask some penetrating and thought-provoking questions. Simply ask yourself, “How can I make the beginning of this post more outrageous, more imaginative, more inspiring, or even into something that would evoke more skepticism?” Subheads.  Often, long blog posts die a quick death because people simply cannot wade through the wall of text that confronts them. This is why we break up our writing online into shorter paragraphs; it makes it easier for people to scan, and it looks as though it will be easier to read. One of my favorite devices for keeping people reading a post is to use mini-headlines or “Subheads” to string the main part of the story together throughout the text. Images.  I'm talking about pictures here. Actual pictures. If you can find a photo that perfectly illustrates the point you're trying to make, or one that is representative of the idea you're trying to convey, then by all means use it. Make sure you use a photo that you have the rights to use (either by the photo through a stock photo service, one you have otherwise obtained a clear license for, or a photo you took yourself). Do be careful not to use cliché photos: if you're writing about how to negotiate, for heaven's sake please don't show photo of two men in business suits shaking hands! You can be more creative than that. One great source of unusual but creative photos for this purpose is a stock photo website called Unsplash. Many thanks to my friend Mike Kim for pointing this resource out to me. Enhanced Content.  Offer an enhanced version of the content in your blog post. This might mean creating an audio file to accompany it, making a short tutorial video to go along with the blog post, or creating a checklist, infographic, or cheat sheet that can be downloaded. This enhanced content should add to the value of the post by making it readily implementable. Amy Porterfield does a great job of this on her blog. Not only is this something that is fairly easy for you to do, it can definitely increase the size of your email list if you use the approach that Amy uses, asking for an email exchange for the download. Using any one of these five jumpstart tactics should infuse your blog post with new life; using all of them is almost guaranteed to “resurrect the dead”. Your assignment: put one or more of these tactics to work and apply them on your blog. This is something you could do today and begin to see the results immediately. Will you? Which of these 5 “jumpstart tactics” will you  put to work on your blog today? Post a link! May I Ask A Favor? Episode 30: This episode: We introduce a new segment called “Speeding Bullets? that we would love feedback on. We also review Martian Manhunter 1-3, Trials of Shazam 1-3, and 52 weeks 25 and 26. Also included are the usual, fantastic, email and forum comments. NOTE: Next week’s show will also be a late Wednesday night release due to our attending the CGS #200 Episode. If there is enough demand, we will rework the spoiler free summary concept. FINAL NOTE: We had a bit of a sound quality issue this episode. (A Slight feedback that we weren’t aware of until the end of recording. We will take care of this for next week.) Time stamps: 0:00 Opening, special news and comments on the web site and where it is headed. 9:27 First Speeding Bullets Segment: Jim talks Outsiders and Sean talks Aquaman : Sword of Atlantis.
