Christian, Agent Starling and Captain EO spend the first 45 minutes of the show discussing the latest Christopher Nolan film, "Oppenheimer", about the father of the atomic bomb. Then, they are joined by one of the most respected minds in film analysis and criticism, Tookie!

check, one, one two. we finally are releasing our live commentary episode about the 1987 e.t. rip-off titled "nukie". it's also known as "n.u.k.i.e.", but the acronym is never explained. we manage to also discuss divination and fredric jameson. there is also a special guest cameo by one of the hosts of the late late capitalism show.
We bring the 2nd Unit back to dip our toes into Development Hell once again...kind of! As a pseudo-sequel of our Superman Lives episodes, we dig into the history of what was supposed to be Justice League: Mortal, the short-lived but fascinating first attempt at the superhero team-up. Directed by George Miller, written by Kieran and Michelle Mulroney, and starring a surprisingly young cast including Armie Hammer, Common, and Jay Baruchel, this goofy comic-book-accurate project met insurmountable obstacles on the way to production. We break down the full cast and story of this project (thanks in large part to cast interviews, articles from Collider, and the great work of the Canceled Movie Report podcast), go over a brief history of the Justice League, and explore the biggest reasons for this film's collapse: the Australian government and the 2007-2008 Writers' Guild of America strike. We marvel at the gambit of casting such young actors for such iconic adult roles, give a brief lesson on rabies symptoms, hypothesize future advancements in villainous tracking technology, have a fun discussion on currency conversion rates and tax credits, subject you to some truly awful Batman voices, remind you that Jack is still trying to track down a VHS copy of Nukie to torture Joe with, bring awareness to the pitfalls of bad acronyms/initialisms, Jack plugs his latest creative project, and we ask a question we've been wondering for some time: do the members of the Justice League all share a tailor? Suit up, settle into the Brother Eye console, and enjoy the show. We wrap up our coverage of Mac And Me, everyone's favorite late-'80s legally-dissimilar E.T. brought to you begrudgingly by McDonalds! We say favorite because, somehow, it's not the only one. Before Jack can get to his fix for Mac, Joe dusts off our Lapsed Academic segment to break down 1987's South African late-Apartheid nightmare, Nukie. We dig into Mac And Me's production, break down who was responsible for this mess of a film and the director's later days as a jingoistic and Islamophobic author after 9/11, cover the basics of Apartheid (we're not a history podcast, but we swear this is relevant), ponder the reasons that Eric's dad isn't in the picture, and ask how the traumatizing animated film Plague Dogs should have ended. Oh, and we perhaps conjure a horrifying nightmare image melding Jack's fear of horses with possibly the worst person in American history. You're welcome/we're sorry. Beloved '80s classic E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial is getting a theatrical re-release this year to celebrate the film's 40th anniversary, so what better time to take a look back at the film that went down in cinema history and launched a plethora of less than stellar knock-offs. This week it's a case of E.T. and Mac and Me, and Nukie and Xtro (the black sheep of the family) as we look at not only the little alien who was afraid, totally alone and 3 million light years from home when cinema goers took him into their hearts in 1982, but also all of his cursed brethren. Burn them. Burn them with fire.
In this episode Tom regales us with his punishment review of Nukie. We then have reviews of Prey (movie), The Outlaws (tv), and Escape Academy (game). We then have trivia revolving around Mitch's 5 favorite movies ( 90s Ninja Turtles, The Last Samurai, Warrior, Interview with a Vampire, and Man of Steel.Support the show
We're joined by Erik Marcisak, the man who holds a hallowed place in Flop House history, as the man who introduced Dan and Elliott to one another. We reminisce with Erik about the old days, doing shows in his tiny comedy theater; then we segue into a discussion of Nukie, one of the bad movies that bonded him with Elliott; and wrap up with Erik subtly hijacking the show to interview us for a little bit.
Eric spins Basket Case. Colton spins Nukie. A wild Kevin James appears. Stinko the Ghoulie continues to terrorize the fellas.
In this episode you'll get to learn all about E.T.'s estranged cousin Nukie, star of a 1987 ripoff of the Spielberg film. Stepping in for Mordecai to review Nukie is special guest Rose Vineshank, who has not seen the movie. Thankfully Dan assists her with a detailed plot summary, random audio and video clips, and a few quotes taken out of context. It's an episode that would make Charlie the Chimpanzee proud.

This week we take a respite from fan fiction and dip into similar territory by visiting the mockbuster E.T. ripoff Nukie. As a movie snack, we also enjoy some buffalo chicken wing and wasabi flavored Oreos
We have a tradition at Buried Cinema. Every first month of the year, we dig up the worst movies we can find, watch them, and record our "regret our life choices" episode. We call it Junk January. This January, we watched rip-offs. (Well, they were supposed to all be rip-offs... Nate.) Here we review the Soviet Avengers-style superhero flick GUARDIANS (2017); The Asylum's atrocious crime against humanity, NAZIS AT THE CENTER OF THE EARTH (2012); Spanish/Italian animated horror-fest TITANIC: THE LEGEND GOES ON (2000); NUKIE (1987), a South African production that is basically the worst possible version of E.T.; and finally Michael Mann's unfortunate trainwreck of a production, THE KEEP (which once again features Nazis). If you ever see a rapping dog, run, for disaster is close at hand! We are joined once again by our regular Junk January guest, Baltimore-based stand-up comedian Dan Kapr. You can (and should) check out his own podcast "Dan Has Jokes," in which he interviews other comics and delves into the science of joke-writing. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/buried-cinema/support

It's the LAST day of Kid's Movie Month! YAAAAAY!!! We felt like wrapping the month up with something a little strange, and that was the 1988, sci-fi/thriller Nukie! Ok maybe it wasn't a "thriller" but Nukie IS terrifying. Jimmy came on to talk about this one with us to help figure out who Nukie is, why he's here, and why he just won't die. We go over whether or not this movie would be watchable for children today as well as a long detailed list of what we think Nukie is ACTUALLY made of. LISTEN UP!
