I've got the OSCAR fever, hope you got it too! On a returning ERIC ROBERTS is the MAN we're joined by guest - and ON CINEMA, AT THE CINEMA expert Zach Weiss - to discuss Eric Roberts' recent appearance on the 12th Annual Oscar Special. We go deep on the history of the bizarre franchise created by Tim Heidecker and Gregg Turkington, as well as its various spin-offs, and try to explain just why the heck people would spend hours of their time watching this stuff (a questions we're VERY familiar with on ERITFM!). Just in case that doesn't whet your whistle we also have a look at an episode of the action espionage TV show BURN NOTICE directed by Renny Harlin and featuring an ALL-STAR cast including Dean Cain, Kristanna Loken, and - of course- ERIC ROBERTS! All this and the latest Eric Roberts news IF YOU CAN HANDLE IT! The post Episode 269 – Eric Roberts is the Man – 12th Annual On Cinema Oscar Special (2025) (/w Zach Weiss) first appeared on Cinema Smorgasbord.

When we said we had something special on the way, we meant it! This week we are so excited to have the legendary comedian/musician/podcaster Tim Heidecker with us on the show! We talked all things Tim including behind the scenes of the newest season of On Cinema, the future of the "Two Tim's," and his upcoming record. Not to mention, Carson and Gavin turned the tables and picked Tim's brain on some of his likes and dislikes, and had a serious discussion about how to balance a busy life and staying relevant. PLUS our first special guest Nextdoor Drama read, about helicopter parents, and we found out what Tim's listening to right now. Enjoy! Joining Paul and Eli this week is comedian, actor, musician and slightly bemused human, Tim Heidecker (Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! On Cinema, Us, Office Hours)! How will he fare in a world of rockney, music mash ups, horror themed hip hop, cockney geezers, Disney education books, walkie talkies and Buddha boards? They're also joined by Brian Wecht (Ninja Sex Party) for a mix of vinyl treats and Price of Shite tricks! If you've ever had Adult Swim on at night and wondered what in the world you're watching, there's a good chance you've seen something created by Tim Heidecker. He got his start making bizarre sketch series like Tim and Eric's Awesome Show, Tom Goes to the Mayor, and On Cinema. Since then, he's appeared in several movies, such as Us, Bridesmaids, and The Comedy and he's extended his On Cinema universe into the film Mister America and a new subscription service called the Hei Network. His latest turn in a multifaceted career is to a live tour–but maybe not quite in the way you'd expect. Half of his show has him in character as a bumbling, awkward comedian failing to connect with the audience. Then the rest of the show is genuine, authentic music written by Heidecker and performed with his Very Good Band. Today Heidecker is in conversation with Tom Knoblauch about artifice and authenticity, how he harnesses both, and the decision to bundle them in his Two Tims Tour, which you can see at the Admiral on August 23. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/riversidechats/support

He and host Andy Levy talk about the event that made Heidecker even more socialist (Betsy DeVos is involved) and what he thinks about the Kanye West elephant in the room: “You can be mentally ill and an idiot, too, right? It's not actually all that hard to tell when Tim Heidecker is kidding and when he's not, but it does take a little bit of practice. When he's performing on shows like Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! or Tim & Eric's Bedtime Stories, it's comedy. When he acts in comedic movies, sure, that's comedy as well. But on albums such as his new one, High School, you don't need to listen carefully for the punchline because there isn't one. He's not trying to fake you out with his music, he's giving it you straight as a singer/songwriter with a bit of a 1970's sheen to it.Tim says he's never been diagnosed with depression but he's had some rough times. He talks about losing close friends to drugs and alcohol and he talks about an incident several years ago when he got stabbed by someone he knew.We talk to Tim about comedy, tragedy, and whether a clinical diagnosis of a particular disorder is really all that necessary when dealing with the dark parts of life.Pre-order Tim Heidecker's new album High School, out June 24, 2022 on Spacebomb Records, here. It's spooky season, and you know what that means: time for another thrilling and chilling re:verb Halloween Special! This year, Alex and Calvin are honored to be joined on the mic by Dr. Bernadette Marie Calafell, Professor and Department Chair of Critical Race and Ethnic Studies at Gonzaga University, and the recent recipient of the Distinguished Scholar Award from the Critical Cultural Studies division of the National Communication Association. Dr. Calafell's research explores the concept of monstrosity in academia, popular culture, and politics: both how marginalized and minoritized peoples are deemed “monstrous” by dominant cultural imaginaries, and how oppressed groups often reclaim monster status as a means of empowerment. In addition, Dr. Calafell's more recent invited talks have addressed how horror films and TV in the (post-) Trump era have been influenced by monstrous policies such as child separation at the border. In explaining her rich and insightful readings of these diverse cultural works, Dr. Calafell helps us to understand how horror is a contested genre in which racialized, queer, and otherwise-marginalized subjects are both written out of and into our broader imaginaries -- from the underdeveloped queer possibilities of Get Out to the expansive queer utopia imagined by A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night. In the course of our conversation, we reference a whole slew of recent monster movies and TV (listed in full below), and we nerd out with Dr. Calafell over our shared, undying love for the multimedia work of Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim. We hope you enjoy - Happy Halloween, everyone!Films, TV Shows, and Music Referenced in this EpisodeTim and Eric's Bedtime Stories (2014-2017)On Cinema (2012-present)“Monster” by Kanye West feat. In today's episode, Heather chats with Lisa Beth and Phoebe about their book “Mom Jokes: Like Dad Jokes, but Smarter”. The pair discusses how they came up with all the great jokes for the book, and their time writing the book in Phoebe's mother's basement during the beginning of quarantine. The pair wrote the book in hopes it would bring light and laughter to people, especially moms, raising children amid a pandemic. Heather also talks about raising kids and all the ins and outs of raising a boy vs a girl. Phoebe and Lisa Beth speak about what the future looks like for them both, their new endeavors, podcast and comedy shows.   About the Guest: Instagram - @phoebebottoms Twitter - @phoebebottoms Instagram - @peanut_lbj Twitter - @ladybirdj Meet the Guests: Lisa Beth Johnson grew up in Texas and attended college there. Lisa Beth graduated from the University of North Texas obtaining a bachelor's degree in English and Linguistics. After graduation, Lisa Beth worked as an editor and writer for many years until finding her true passions. Currently, Lisa Beth is a comedian, TV producer and a writer. She lives in LA full time while continuing her work as a producer and creating new comedy content for shows. Phoebe was originally raised in Minneapolis where she spent the first part of her life entrenched in theater. In 2006 she started performing improv at The Brave New Workshop, then studied with Second City founder Paul Sills, Upright Citizens Brigade and trained for the Henson Company's touring improv show Puppet Up! With Patrick Bristow. Then transitioning to primarily stand up in 2007, she produced notable shows in LA and New York, toured internationally and was featured in festivals such as Bridgetown, High Plains 10k Laughs the Jewish Humor Festival and Akumal Comedy Festival. Phoebe has also worked in film and television. This includes A Serious Man, the Adult Swim shows On Cinema and Decker, as well as MTV's Greatest Party Stories Ever. She was able to play a role on a Court TV show. She has even written and produced shorts featured on the Cannes Film Festival and has done ad campaigns for Fox, JASH, TimeHop and Oxiclean's Orange Glo International.   About the Host: Following the crumbs in the chaos is a full-time job. As a busy mom of three, a wife to a traveling hubby, and keeping it weird in Austin, Texas, it's safe to say that my life is never boring. In addition to running my coaching business as C'N'C's CEO, I'm a certified coach for a premier virtual fitness and nutrition program helping others feel better while sustaining a healthy lifestyle. My mom and dad are thrilled that I'm putting my Exercise Science degree to good use. Along with my experience training pro athletes, S.W.A.T. members, and a high school football team, I gained 10+ years of experience as the Director of Marketing building multiple court reporting companies. Lastly, I am a published writer, Content Coordinator, and Account Executive for a publication by Best Version Media. They even gave me a monthly “How to” column where I teach others how to be more self-sufficient with common household tasks. Every woman should know how their home functions and what to do if something malfunctions, man or no man. With my husband on the road, searching “How To” on the internet has transformed me into a “Mommy MacGyver”. “I don't know how you have the time.” “You're like a Supermom!” These are common things that people say, but the truth is that life hasn't always been easy or pretty. Even with the bumps, I always try to find the humor in everything because laughter is good for the soul and you should never take life too seriously….where's the fun in that?   https://chaosncookies.com/ https://www.instagram.com/heathersteinker (https://www.instagram.com/heathersteinker) https://www.facebook.com/heathersteinker (https://www.facebook.com/heathersteinker)...

The Late Era crew is joined by the hilarious and insightful Gregg Turkington (Neil Hamburger, On Cinema) to discuss a late-career landmark by Frank Sinatra. Best known for featuring Ol’ Blue Eyes’ immortal rendition of “Theme From New York, New York,” 1980’s Trilogy: Past, Present, Future is a surreal, self-referential, and strangely moving triple album organized through the lens of Sinatra’s own experience in show business. This means we get a selection of standards, some fresh takes on radio hits by Billy Joel and the Beatles, and… an operatic suite about interplanetary space travel and the crushing inevitability of death? We discuss all of this, plus a shocking tale of kidnapping conspiracy, a savvy bit of financial advice, and an expert round of celebrity impressions. Start spreading the news: It’s a Late Era classic. Please consider reviewing this podcast on Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Mister America is the new film starring Tim Heidecker and Gregg Turkington. It's a documentary-style satire about an first-time political candidate named Tim Heidecker, that is, the character Heidecker has played for years now alongside Turkington as part of their movie show On Cinema at the Cinema. In case you don't already know, Heidecker and Turkington have created an incredible comedic universe involving their two movie-guy characters which spans a vanity spy show, Twitter, and now Mister America. FC Editor-in-Chief sat down with the duo to talk about how they put it all together, where cinema verité comes into it, and what they think of Alan Partridge.

I didn’t know if Tim Heidecker was going to show up for this interview, or if I was going to get his boorish, abusive, dim alter ego, Tim Heidecker. Luckily Tim Heidecker leaves Tim Heidecker in the “On Cinema” universe. That project he started with Gregg Turkington is comprised of an ongoing series called “On Cinema at the Cinema,” various spin-off series including “The Trial of Tim Heidecker,” special episodes, segments, tweets, songs, and now the feature film “Mister America.” In this half hour I ask Heidecker to lift the hood on his performance style and the evolution of his comedy from the brilliantly absurd “Awesome Show” with Eric Wareheim, to the super subtle realism of “Mister America.”

Welcome to the January installment of Aquarium Drunkard’s recurring Transmissions podcast, a series of interviews and audio esoterica from Aquarium Drunkard. For our first episode of 2018, we explore three unique stories. First, we dive into the story of Ozma Records’ new reissue of the Voyager Golden Record. Launched into outer space in 1977 onboard the Voyager space probes, the Golden Record was a sort of cosmic mixtape, designed by a team led by Carl Sagan and Ann Druyan as a representation of life, arts, and culture on Earth. We spoke to co-producer David Pescovitz of Boing Boing from his office at the Institute For the Future about how this new reissue allows us to more fully understand the scope of the Golden Record —and what it has to say to listeners today. Then, we sit down with comedian, writer, and musician Tim Heidecker. Best know for his work on Tim and Eric Awesome Show — Great Job, Decker, and films like The Comedy, Heidecker is an extraordinarily busy guy: he recently finished The Trial of Tim Heidecker, a part of his meta-comedy saga On Cinema with Gregg Turkington — AKA Neil Hamburger. He’s also got a recent album out, Too Dumb for Suicide, a collection of songs about the president. We dive into his strange, sometimes confusing world. And finally, we close out the show by shining a light on some of our favorite mixtapes from the Aquarium Drunkard archives, The End is at Hand collections, a four-volume series of super-obscure, often private press, outsider psychedelic guitar and folk music from the ‘60s and ‘70s centered around the Jesus People Movement. We’re joined by BlackForrestry — Josh Swartwood and Doug Cooper — who put these mixes together, to investigate the roots and feral faith of these “Jesus Freaks,” whose apocalyptic visions shimmer throughout these mixtapes — and whose faith still speaks to Josh and Doug.
