Today Jay sits down with one of the world’s most influential digital storytellers, Dhar Mann, for a raw conversation about failure, identity, and resilience. Dhar opens up about growing up feeling caught between two worlds, battling loneliness, depression, and self-doubt, and how those painful experiences ultimately shaped his purpose. Together, they explore how our deepest wounds often become the message we’re here to share, and why real healing begins when we stop hiding who we are. Dhar also breaks down the mindset and systems that helped him turn his lowest moments into a global storytelling brand. He shares why success comes from repetition, failure, and emotional connection, not validation, and reveals the story behind the one video he almost didn’t post that changed everything. In this episode you'll learn: How to Keep Going After Rejection How to Find Confidence Through Consistency How to Build a Purpose-Driven Brand How to Stop Hiding Your Struggles How to Pivot When Life Changes How to Choose the Right Partner How to Create Success That Lasts Some of the most meaningful breakthroughs happen after seasons of rejection, loneliness, and uncertainty. Keep showing up, keep believing in your growth, and keep taking the next step forward even when no one else can see the vision yet. Why do so many organizational change efforts stall or flat out fail? Julia Dhar, managing director and partner at Boston Consulting Group, says the problem often isn't strategy, it's behavior. Leaders spend enormous time designing change, but far less understanding whether employees are willing, motivated, and equipped to adopt it. She shares research around how leaders can create genuine alignment, and what it takes to sustain momentum once the novelty fades. Dhar is coauthor, along with Kristy Ellmer and Philip Jameson, of the book "How Change Really Works: Seven Science-Based Principles for Transforming Your Organization".

Digital Health Talks - Changemakers Focused on Fixing Healthcare
As AI systems increasingly influence clinical decisions—from risk stratification to treatment recommendations—healthcare leaders face a critical question: When can we safely rely on AI, and when must human judgment remain in the loop?Professor Vasant Dhar, NYU Stern professor, veteran AI researcher, and author of the newly released Thinking With Machines: The Brave New World of AI, joins Digital Health Talks to deliver what healthcare executives urgently need: a practical framework for evaluating AI reliability, recognizing model blind spots, and designing guardrails that actually work. With decades of experience bringing machine learning to high-stakes environments and over one million downloads of his Brave New World podcast, Professor Dhar offers rare clarity on the mounting tension between rapidly advancing AI capabilities and our ability to evaluate their trustworthiness. Healthcare CIOs, CMIOs, and technology leaders will walk away with actionable insights for governing AI deployment—not just soundbites.Vasant Dhar, Author, Thinking With Machines: The Brave New World of AIMegan Antonelli, Chief Executive Officer, HealthIMPACT
Why do forecasts look great right up until they don't? If your Rev Ops strategy stops at the point of sale, you aren't managing revenue—you're managing blind spots. Courtney Baker, David DeWolf, and Mohan Rao kick off a new series on Commercial Operations. They explain why the "lone wolf" days of account management are over and how AI turns "digital exhaust" into objective data—bringing the same discipline to client retention that we apply to winning new deals. Pete Buer sits down with Dr. Vasant Dhar, author of Thinking With Machines. Dr. Dhar explains "Dhar's Conjecture" and how gaining a "Roger Federer edge"—just a 54% win rate—can compound into an unbeatable competitive advantage. Plus, the experimentation phase is officially over. Pete breaks down new data showing that 98% of board members have made measuring AI ROI their top priority for 2026. Special guest, Denisha Gingles, returns to the show to update our perceptions of good leadership with a decidedly non-Western traditional mindset of culturally responsive practices. For example, did you know that some cultures appreciate a greater sense of unity from their leaders? Apparently one giant know-it-all doesn't necessarily make for the best boss—looking at you, American CEOs! Learn how embracing a more diverse workforce can also benefit goals of meaningful mentorship and growth in our field with some examples from the medical world and how much we really should learn from rugby. Today, Matt Liguori and Sasha Joseph discuss episode 6 of Dancing with the Stars Season 34 with special guest, Survivor 47's Anika Dhar.
This week on Newsroom Robots, host Nikita Roy sits down with Vilas Dhar, President of the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation, one of the world's foremost philanthropies advancing AI for public good. Dhar leads a $1.5 billion endowment that has committed over $500 million to projects spanning climate action, public health, education, and democratic governance. He has served on the UN Secretary-General's High-Level Advisory Body on AI, is the U.S. government's nominated expert to the Global Partnership on AI, and was named a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader in 2022.Across philanthropy, policy, and technology, Dhar carries one central conviction: technology may accelerate, but the future of journalism and society must remain human-centered. Dhar introduces a three-part framework for ethical AI deployment (responsible data, clear boundaries, and transparency) and explains how to translate abstract principles into concrete newsroom decisions. He unpacks his LISA framework (Listen, Involve, Share, Assess) for audience-centered AI design, and tackles the hardest questions facing newsroom leaders: Should we buy or build AI tools? How do we balance innovation with environmental sustainability? What happens to human creativity when machines can create? But perhaps most powerfully, Dhar challenges a deeply held belief in journalism: that media organizations can remain ‘just' media companies in an AI-driven world. There is no way to be a media organization today without also being a technology organization, he argues, and that shift requires not just new tools, but a fundamental reckoning with organizational identity and purpose. This epiosde covers:00:31 – Introducing Vilas Dhar and his human-centered AI vision: Why technology should serve dignity, equity, and democracy—not just profit02:17 – The three-part framework for ethical AI: Responsible data, clear boundaries, and transparency as actionable principles07:08 – Questions leaders must ask before deploying AI: Who's involved? Who's accountable? Who has editorial control over AI use?10:16 – The LISA framework: Listen, Involve, Share, Assess to turn AI experimentation into behind-the-scenes reporting that builds public trust13:30 – Navigating ethical dilemmas around AI-generated content13:51 – The three phases of newsroom AI adoption18:54 – Why "we're not a tech company" no longer works23:12 – Organizational reckoning in an 18-month transformation cycle25:23 – Why smaller, targeted models and collective action matter more than massive systems29:14 – Fighting misinformation with AI34:13 – What journalism is missing compared to other industries37:01 – The evolving role of human creativity and agency39:33 – The McGovern Foundation's North Star44:23 – How Vilas uses AI personallySign up for the Newsroom Robots newsletter for episode summaries and insights from host Nikita Roy. There's a power struggle between humanity and technology. And Vilas Dhar, president and trustee of the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation, argues humanity coming out on top depends not just on regulation, but on people regaining agency vis-à-vis technology and a voice in how it is created. On POLITICO Tech, Dhar joins host Steven Overly to discuss how humans can reclaim their power, and why he thinks an initial step should be creating a national digital identification system. About the Book Over the last decade, election campaigns in India have undergone a dramatic shift. Political parties increasingly rely on political consulting firms, social media volunteers, pollsters, data-driven insights, and hashtag wars to mobilize voters. What is driving these changes in the landscape of electioneering? The Backstage of Democracy: India's Election Campaigns and the People Who Manage Them (Cambridge UP, 2024) takes readers to the hidden arena of strategizing and deliberations that takes place between politicians and a new cabal of political professionals as they organize election campaigns in India. The book argues that this change is not reducible to a story of technological innovations alone. Rather, it is indicative of a new political culture where ideas of political expertise, the distribution of power within parties, and citizens' attitudes towards political participation have undergone a profound change. Marshalling an eclectic range of data sources, the book breaks new ground on how we understand the workings of India's electoral and party politics. About the Author Amogh Dhar Sharma is Departmental Lecturer in the Oxford Department of International Development, University of Oxford. I interviewed 60 Brits to debunk one of psychology's greatest myths. Priming is one of the best-known biases in behavioural science. Kahneman mentions it 35 times in his best-selling book Thinking Fast and Slow. And yet, I'm not convinced it really works. In five separate experiments, I tested it. Continuing our dive into the chaos gods and their champions, it is the turn of the martial blood god Khorne. We start with an existential conversation on what drives mortals to become his champions and their violent relationship with other champions, using the former Knight of the Blazing Suns, Slaurith, as a prime example. We turn our attention to the murderous cultists of Khorne and the blood gods strained and confusing stance on magic. We dive into the continuing adventures of Aarball the Undefeated and his enormous flesh hound mount (Gabby). We explore the tale of Valkia the Bloody, the "Shield-Maiden of Khorne", a fearsome champion and consort of Khorne. What does it take to become a Warrior of the Dark Prince? We look at the type of culture that exists within the Hordes of Slaanesh and their Slaangor Beastmen allies. Two magic items are used to illustrate the corruption of Slaanesh that may lead many to the path of Excess. We then veer north and describe a number of Slaaneshi Chaos Champions. We start with two denied High Elves; Gilberion and Dechala. We look at the life of Styrkaar , the would-be final sexy champion of the Storm of Chaos before discussing the hypnotic overlord of Slaaneshi Mortals, Sigvald the Magnificent. We detail his rise to power, his Gilded Palace and his eventual deal with the god Slaanesh themselves. Five years before he became a massively successful content creator, Dhar Mann was nearly broke and living in a studio apartment. It's the kind of story he might tell in one of his videos: bite-sized, live-action morality tales that have earned 60 billion views across YouTube, Facebook, and other platforms. Raised in an Indian Sikh family, Dhar had a strong entrepreneurial drive, which led to early business success, but also a spectacular downfall when he got pulled into a Ponzi scheme. A few years after losing nearly everything, he began making short, dramatic videos that conveyed life lessons. Nobody watched at first and critics called them cheesy, but today, Dhar has a huge production studio in Burbank, where dozens of employees make content for tens of millions of subscribers. This episode was produced by Alex Cheng and Casey Herman, with music by Ramtin Arablouei.Edited by Neva Grant, with research help from Katherine Sypher. You can follow HIBT on X & Instagram, and email us at hibt@id.wondery.com.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
