Join Here: https://ow.ly/msoH50WCu0K In this segment of Notorious Mass Effect, host Analytic Dreamz reacts to the official teaser trailer for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El in James Gunn's DCU. Directed by Craig Gillespie and based on Tom King's acclaimed comic, the film hits theaters June 26, 2026. Analytic Dreamz breaks down the trailer's gritty, cosmic vibe—featuring a traumatized, hard-edged Supergirl celebrating her birthday across the galaxy with Krypto, reluctant vengeance quest alongside young alien Ruthye (Eve Ridley), interstellar action against villain Krem (Matthias Schoenaerts), and a glimpse of Jason Momoa's Lobo. Highlighting the rock soundtrack like Blondie's "Call Me," space-western tone contrasting Superman's optimism, and Alcock's raw portrayal of a "f***ed up" Kryptonian raised amid horror, this marks a bold, darker chapter in the DC Universe.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/analytic-dreamz-notorious-mass-effect/donationsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

DC JUST DROPPED THE NEW SUPERGIRL TRAILER! James Gunn's DCU is officially expanding into the cosmic frontier with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and today Greg Alba & Coy Jandreau break down everything we saw — from Kara Zor-El's powerful new characterization to the film's striking sci-fi aesthetic inspired by Tom King's critically acclaimed comic run. We explore how this Supergirl differs from Superman, why her harsher upbringing makes her one of the DCU's most compelling new heroes, and how the trailer sets the tone for a darker, more emotionally charged journey. What planets are we seeing? Who is the mysterious villain teased? And how will Supergirl connect to the larger DCU, including Superman, Swamp Thing, The Authority, and the upcoming Lanterns series? PLUS — we speculate on casting details, story influences, potential cameos, and what James Gunn and director Craig Gillespie are setting up for the future of the DC Universe. Is Supergirl poised to become one of the breakout characters of the new DCU era? If you enjoy these trailer breakdowns and theory dives, hit like & jump into the chat! The first teaser trailer for DC Studios' Supergirl has now dropped online. Starting Milly Alcock, Supergirl marks the sophomore effort in James Gunn & Peter Safran's new DCU following Superman's critical and commercial success. After years and years of anticipation and defending James Gunn's DCU years before it even began, it was so satisfying to see people fall in love with Superman again back in July and to see people genuinely excited about DC on the big screen again. These characters and the universe as a whole has mean the world to me ever since I was a kid, and to see them finally getting adapted onto the big screen in (mostly) the way I'd always hoped is so damn exciting. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is one of my favorite DC comics of all-time, so to say I was excited when Gunn announced the story being adapted to a movie would be an understatement. I've long BEGGED for more comic book movies to do more straightforward adaptations of comic book stories. At the end of the day, you're never going to do better than the best work from the people who understand these characters best: the comic book writers who grew up being nerds like us about these universes. Tom King is also one of my favorite working comic book writers so to just see a spotlight put on one of his stories like this is just great. My excitement for the film multiplied when the crew, as well as director Craig Gillespie, came on board for the film. Well, the teaser trailer is finally here. Is this everything I hoped for? Find out by clicking play!
We're skating on thin ice for the second instalment in Sarah's season dedicated to true crime movies. This time, we pivot from the bleak darkness of Snowtown to the darkly comic story of figure skater Tonya Harding in Craig Gillespie's I, Tonya. Dan and Sarah dive into this fascinating sports movie that explores domestic abuse, poverty and media sensationalism, while somehow remaining incredibly funny – a precarious balancing act which we discuss at length. There aren't many films about figure skating so it's refreshing to see this true story done justice on the big screen with a stellar cast. We examine the brilliant performances from Margot Robbie, Sebastian Stan, Paul Walter Hauser and Allison Janney as Lavona Golden in an Oscar winning role. This complex portrait of a complicated human being, who was routinely failed and vilified by the media, is not just about the “incident,” it's about the people and the media circus that followed. It's a genuinely re-watchable experience and we hope that you join us. What to expect in this episode: We discuss how director Craig Gillespie managed to effectively balance the dark comedy with the serious reality of domestic abuse. Dan and Sarah compare the media frenzy surrounding Tonya Harding to later events like the O.J Simpson trial and the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard case, highlighting the media's complicity in creating a circus around serious subjects. We praise Gillespie as a solid director with great casting choices, noting the ensemble effort. We explore the meta use of the contradictory interviews and the fourth wall breaks, which highlight that nobody truly knew the objective truth. Expressions of disappointment in the lack of a Flying V. Would you like to see the full lineup for season 13? The only place you can see it is on Patreon but you don't need to be a paying member. Min 4: THE LAST OF US 2: ¿Final rompedor o interruptus forzado?

The gang comes over and sits this week, as they review the uber-wholesome movie about a guy who thinks a sex doll is real, Lars and the Real Girl from director Craig Gillespie. Editors Nathan Orloff and Shane Reid SATURDAY NIGHT editors Nathan Orloff and Shane Reid team up for the second time in 2024 with their latest Jason Reitman / Gil Keenan project about NBC's long-running sketch comedy show. Having previously cut GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE together, the pair developed a strong working relationship that certainly came in handy when Shane had to do double duty between this project and DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE (2024). SATURDAY NIGHT is a frenetic dramatization of what happened behind the scenes during the ninety minutes leading up to the first broadcast of NBC's Saturday Night on October 11th, 1975, when a dynamic young producer named Lorne Michaels lead a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers in changing television forever. NATHAN ORLOFF Nathan Orloff is known for his editing on TULLY (2018), PLAN B (2021), GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE (2021), JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4 (2023) and GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE (2024). SHANE REID As a partner of the award-winning post house Exile Edit, Shane has been nominated for, and won, multiple awards for his work in the commercial space with top brands including Apple, Adidas, BMW, Hennessy, Audi and the Olympics. Editors Dean Zimmerman ACE and Shane Reid DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE editors, Dean Zimmerman ACE and Shane Reid are the "buddies" in the cutting room of what is shaping up to be the biggest, R-rated buddy movie of all time. Zimmerman joined this film with two other Shawn Levy / Ryan Reynolds films to his credit, but it would be Mrs. Pool (Blake Lively) who would be Shane Reid's connection into the "Merc With a Mouth" franchise. Deadpool's peaceful existence comes crashing down in DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE when the Time Variance Authority recruits him to help safeguard the multiverse. He soon unites with his would-be pal, Wolverine, to complete the mission and save his world from an existential threat. DEAN ZIMMERMAN, ACE DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE finds Dean collaborating once again with director and longtime friend, Shawn Levy. The two have been working together for over twenty years on projects like the NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM franchise and a little series called STRANGER THINGS. More recently, the two have joined forces with Ryan Reynolds for FREE GUY (2021) and THE ADAM PROJECT (2022). Zimmerman and Levy are currently working on the much-anticipated final season of STRANGER THINGS. Dean's father, Don Zimmerman, is a highly accomplished editor in his own right. This week on the podcast, we're ostensibly talking about Fright Night, the 2011 vampire action thriller remake starring Colin Farrell and directed by Craig Gillespie. But here's the thing: that movie very bad and we don't want to talk about it. You know what movie is good actually? Fright Night, the 1985 vampire horror movie starring Chris Sarandon and directed by Tom Holland. That's the one we want to talk about. Along the way we'll survey the history of vampire movies, eulogize Anton Yelchin, and try to decide if Dave Franco is a good actor.
Director Craig Gillespie discusses his new film, Dumb Money, with fellow Director Phil Lord in a Q&A at the DGA theater in Los Angeles. In the conversation, he discusses his process in finding a tonal balance between the comedy and serious in his scenes, working with a script so soon after the real-life events transpired, and using real footage, texts and even memes in the film. The film tells the true story of how regular guy, Keith Gill, starts a movement with other novice stock traders to get rich. By turning GameStop into one of the world's hottest companies, he helps make stock market history, much to the chagrin of the finance industry giants who fight back. See photos and a summary of this event below: https://dga.org/Events/2023/December2023/DumbMoney_QnA_1023.aspx

Shares in GameStop, the video game store, experienced a dramatic rise in early in 2021. The stock had captured the imagination of many individual investors who heard about it on social media platforms such as TikTok and Reddit. Some investors made a lot of money, while some hedge funds, who had bet against the stock, lost billions. Eventually, though, GameStop shares crashed back to earth and many investors lost the lot. The story has been dramatised by Hollywood in ‘Dumb Money', currently screening in cinemas. Vivienne Nunis sits down with the film's director Craig Gillespie and financial journalist Matt Levine to investigate what the GameStop saga teaches us about the power of social media when it comes to influencing the movements of the stock market. It's another jam-packed episode of the Empire Podcast this week, as Chris Hewitt chats to three very different directors, and learns a lot about them (and himself) along the way. First up is John Carney, the Irish director of ultra-charming musical comedy-dramas like Sing Street and his new movie, Flora & Son, who tells Chris all about his first guitar, focusing on his childhood, and directing Eve Hewson in the title role. Then Gareth Edwards, who makes a triumphant return this week with new sci-fi The Creator some seven years after his bruising experience directing Rogue One, sits down with Chris for a natter about opening weekends, and forging the right creative path. And last but not least, Chris talks caps (financial and sartorial) with Craig Gillespie, director of Dumb Money. Then, in the virtual podbooth, Chris is joined by Helen O'Hara and James Dyer for a fun episode in which they talk about the movie they've seen most often in the last ten years; discuss actual movie news in the week that the Writers' Strike finally got resolved; and review Saw X, No One Will Save You, The Creator, and The Old Oak, which is reportedly the last film for the legendary Ken Loach. Oh, and James declares war on a badger. Enjoy. On this week's episode, Sonny Bunch (The Bulwark), Alyssa Rosenberg (The Washington Post), and Peter Suderman (Reason) celebrate the end of the writers strike and ask a very important question: what the heck took so long for the studio execs to sit down and work out a deal with the writers? Then they review Dumb Money, Craig Gillespie's look at the pandemic-era bubble surrounding meme stock AMC. As an underdog-beating-the-big-guys story, it's … eh. But as a pandemic movie and an examination of the ways in which it made us all go a little nuts, it's really quite interesting. Make sure to swing by Bulwark+ on Friday for our bonus episode about the end of prestige TV and the retrenchment to more populist fare. And if you enjoyed this episode, make sure to share it with a friend!
For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Lauren Cohen, Josh Parham & Dan Bayer to discuss the latest film from Craig Gillespie, "Dumb Money" starring Paul Dano, Pete Davidson, Vincent D'Onofrio, America Ferrera, Nick Offerman, Anthony Ramos, Sebastian Stan, Shailene Woodley & Seth Rogen. Telling the 2021 story of the Gamestop short squeeze, which rocked Wall Street and made a lot of people fifty rich in the process, the film had its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, where it received positive reviews but what did we think of it? Tune in as we discuss the performances, Gillespie's direction, how well the film explains its complex financial premise, and how it compares to other films such as "The Social Network," "Moneyball," "The Big Short" and more. Director: Craig Gillespie Writers: Lauren Schuker Blum, Rebecca Angelo, Ben Mezrich Starring: Paul Dano, Pete Davidson, Vincent D'Onofrio, America Ferrera, Nick Offerman, Anthony Ramos, Seth Rogen, Sebastian Stan Runtime: 1 Hour 44 Minutes Synopsis: Dumb Money is the ultimate David vs. Goliath tale, based on the insane true story of everyday people who flipped the script on Wall Street and got rich by turning GameStop (yes, the mall videogame store) into the world's hottest company. Craig Gillespie's Dumb Money, is an entertaining yet hollow look at the events that unfolded when GameStop became the stock of Wall Street. On the surface, all of the pieces are there. The cast is extremely solid. Paul Dano plays a very engaging Keith Gill who can draw the audience into this "David vs Goliath" tale. He plays the underdog well, particularly against Offerman, Rogen and Stan who all play the stereotypical Wall Street asshole perfectly. This is what makes this film work as an entertainment piece. If the purpose is to just view this as a dumbed down, simple, David vs Goliath style tale then it does it's job. The problem is that the real story behind GameStop, meme stocks & Reddit is a far more complex and complicated tale that just doesn't get told here. Since this film is more interested in being a black & white, good versus evil type of tale, it doesn't reveal just how many people (non-wall street people) also ended up losing a lot of money because of this. On the flip side, it made it seem like the hedge funds lost but in reality, they didn't and most of those rich people stayed rich. It also skips over the toxic nature of the Wallstreet Bets subreddit and how Gill might not have been the perfect, guy with clean hands in all of this. There's also no connection into other memestocks, the move into NFTs and other things that also started to trend after. Now to be fair, there's probably no way this film could have gone into all of that. But on the other hand, an Adam McKay film probably would have or at least attempted to. Judging this film as a singular entertainment piece with no larger purpose, the film will work for audiences enough to be entertaining. But there won't be any larger discussions or even lasting memories from it. Which is unfortunate because it definitely has the cast to be a more memorable film.
