Jason and Rosie are back with the biggest pop culture news of the week. First up: they've seen Supergirl. In a spoiler-free breakdown, they weigh in on Craig Gillespie's DCU debut — a film that survived 10+ test screenings, extensive reshoots, and an apparent crisis of confidence from the studio. The verdict? Against all odds, it's... pretty okay. Then: DC's massive animation slate out of Annecy, including the Batman Caped Crusader Season 2 trailer (all 10 episodes drop July 31 on Prime Video), and the surprise announcement of Nightfall — an R-rated animated trilogy adapting the legendary Knightfall arc, with Anson Mount as Batman, Michael Manas as Bane, and Pablo Schreiber as Azrael. 076 - The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Dir. A.Horvath / M.Jelenic / P.Leduc / F.Polack Mario may be one of the most famous and successful franchises in the world if not THE most famous and recognizable franchises in the world. 2023's The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a smash hit commercially but was pretty critically panned. 2026's The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is, somehow, MORE wanting in the area that matters most in a film- the story. BUT both film are absolutely excellent Mario and Nintendo fan service films for kids. They're bright, colorful, fast paced, and fun. Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universesSuper TrailerWarner Bros. released the first full trailer for Supergirl, giving us our best look at Milly Alcock's hard-partying Kara Zor-El as she embarks on an interstellar revenge mission to save her poisoned dog Krypto after villainous Krem leaves him only three days to live. The June 26 release directed by Craig Gillespie adapts Tom King's Woman of Tomorrow comic, featuring Jason Momoa's Lobo as an unlikely ally and Eve Ridley as young Ruthye Marye Knoll, whose parents were murdered by Krem. With James Gunn's punk rock aesthetic and emotional animal stakes reminiscent of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 all over, did this trailer deliver the goods in terms of hyping us up, up and away?Trailer Who LivedHBO unveiled the first trailer for its Harry Potter series last Wednesday, revealing an earlier-than-expected Christmas Day 2026 premiere for the eight-episode first season officially titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod lead the ambitious seven-season adaptation with each season dedicated to one book, reportedly costing around $100 million per episode, making it potentially the most expensive television production of all time. With the trailer becoming the most-viewed in HBO Max history at 277 million views in 48 hours, can this decade-long reboot justify its lofty budget and overcome the controversy surrounding the franchise's creator?Galactically Good Box OfficeRyan Gosling's Project Hail Mary crossed $300M globally to become the highest-grossing film of 2026 so far, but its reign might be short-lived as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is projected to dominate Easter weekend with $175M-$180M domestically over five days and $350M globally. Tracking is running slightly ahead of 2023's The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which opened to $204.6M domestically and $377M worldwide before finishing with $1.36B. The $110M sequel reunites Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, and Jack Black while adding Donald Glover as Yoshi and Glen Powell as Star Fox in a recently announced surprise crossover cameo. With first reviews seeming to echo the first film's middling critical reception, will its box office performance be as out of this world as expected?Lightning RoundThis morning Amazon MGM released the official trailer for Masters of the Universe, slated for theaters June 5. Stephen Colbert revealed he's co-writing The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past with his son Peter McGee and franchise veteran Philippa Boyens, adapting six early chapters from The Fellowship of the Ring that were omitted from Peter Jackson's 2001 filmHimesh Patel has been cast in writer-director Ryan Coogler‘s revival of the X-Files and will star opposite the previously cast Danielle Deadwyler. Ryan Gosling is set to star in Universal Pictures' untitled event film directed by The Daniels, the Oscar-winning duo behind Everything Everywhere All at Once. At this time, all major plot details are being kept under wraps. Sonya Walger has been cast as Freya in Prime Video‘s God of War series. Filmmaker Tim Miller has tapped actor Stefan Kapicic to join the cast of his upcoming sci-fi movie starring Keanu Reeves. This reteams Miller who directed Deadpool and Kapicic who played Colossus. Filming has been halted on Amazon MGM Studios' Tomb Raider series due to an injury suffered by series star Sophie Turner. Filming is expected to resume in about two weeks. A24 has released the official trailer for The Backrooms, an upcoming sci-fi horror film starring Renate Reinsve and Chiwetel Ejiofor, marking first-time feature director Kane Parsons' expansion of his viral YouTube found-footage universe. The screenplay, written by Will Soodik, is based on the online urban legend that originally inspired Parsons' series.

SUPERMAN CAMEO ALREADY?! Greg Alba, Coy Jandreau, and Roxy Striar react to the brand-new Supergirl trailer from DC Studios and James Gunn's DCU! This new look gives us a much better sense of the movie's tone, scale, and emotional core, including our best trailer look yet at Milly Alcock's Kara Zor-El / Supergirl, Jason Momoa's Lobo, the destruction and trauma tied to Argo, the intergalactic revenge quest with Ruthye, and the major role Krypto plays in kicking off the story. Director Craig Gillespie has described the film as a sci-fi epic inspired in part by True Grit and John Wick, with Kara helping Ruthye track down Krem after Ruthye's family is murdered and Krypto is poisoned. In this trailer reaction, we talk about the melancholy vibe, the heavier emotional weight compared to Superman, the cosmic scope, the action, the visual style, and how much more tragic and battle-worn this version of Supergirl feels. We also get into Lobo's presence, how important Ruthye looks to the story, the destruction of Argo City / Kryptonian life, and what the movie seems to be setting up for Kara emotionally as she moves through this revenge-driven DCU adventure. Craig Gillespie said the film digs deep into Krypton's culture and Argo specifically to shape Kara's personality and pain, which is all over this footage. We also discuss the Superman connection / cameo angle, since David Corenswet's Superman is expected to appear alongside Kara in the film after her DCU debut path was tied to Superman, and the trailer continues to make this feel like a true extension of the new shared universe James Gunn and Peter Safran are building. Supergirl stars Milly Alcock, Jason Momoa, Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham, and it hits theaters and IMAX on June 26, 2026. As for the upcoming DCU movie slate under James Gunn, the current theatrical lineup includes Supergirl (June 26, 2026), Clayface (September 2026), and Man of Tomorrow (July 2027), while other DCU film projects in development include The Brave and the Bold, Swamp Thing, The Authority, Teen Titans, and Wonder Woman Follow Roxy Striar YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/@TheWhirlGirls Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/roxystriar/?hl=en Twitter: https://twitter.com/roxystriar Follow Coy Jandreau: Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@coyjandreau?l... Directed by Craig Gillespie and based on Tom King's acclaimed comic, the film hits theaters June 26, 2026. Analytic Dreamz breaks down the trailer's gritty, cosmic vibe—featuring a traumatized, hard-edged Supergirl celebrating her birthday across the galaxy with Krypto, reluctant vengeance quest alongside young alien Ruthye (Eve Ridley), interstellar action against villain Krem (Matthias Schoenaerts), and a glimpse of Jason Momoa's Lobo. Highlighting the rock soundtrack like Blondie's "Call Me," space-western tone contrasting Superman's optimism, and Alcock's raw portrayal of a "f***ed up" Kryptonian raised amid horror, this marks a bold, darker chapter in the DC Universe.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/analytic-dreamz-notorious-mass-effect/donationsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

DC JUST DROPPED THE NEW SUPERGIRL TRAILER! James Gunn's DCU is officially expanding into the cosmic frontier with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and today Greg Alba & Coy Jandreau break down everything we saw — from Kara Zor-El's powerful new characterization to the film's striking sci-fi aesthetic inspired by Tom King's critically acclaimed comic run. We explore how this Supergirl differs from Superman, why her harsher upbringing makes her one of the DCU's most compelling new heroes, and how the trailer sets the tone for a darker, more emotionally charged journey. What planets are we seeing? Who is the mysterious villain teased? And how will Supergirl connect to the larger DCU, including Superman, Swamp Thing, The Authority, and the upcoming Lanterns series? PLUS — we speculate on casting details, story influences, potential cameos, and what James Gunn and director Craig Gillespie are setting up for the future of the DC Universe. Is Supergirl poised to become one of the breakout characters of the new DCU era? If you enjoy these trailer breakdowns and theory dives, hit like & jump into the chat! The first teaser trailer for DC Studios' Supergirl has now dropped online. Starting Milly Alcock, Supergirl marks the sophomore effort in James Gunn & Peter Safran's new DCU following Superman's critical and commercial success. After years and years of anticipation and defending James Gunn's DCU years before it even began, it was so satisfying to see people fall in love with Superman again back in July and to see people genuinely excited about DC on the big screen again. These characters and the universe as a whole has mean the world to me ever since I was a kid, and to see them finally getting adapted onto the big screen in (mostly) the way I'd always hoped is so damn exciting. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is one of my favorite DC comics of all-time, so to say I was excited when Gunn announced the story being adapted to a movie would be an understatement. I've long BEGGED for more comic book movies to do more straightforward adaptations of comic book stories. At the end of the day, you're never going to do better than the best work from the people who understand these characters best: the comic book writers who grew up being nerds like us about these universes. Tom King is also one of my favorite working comic book writers so to just see a spotlight put on one of his stories like this is just great. My excitement for the film multiplied when the crew, as well as director Craig Gillespie, came on board for the film. Well, the teaser trailer is finally here. Is this everything I hoped for? Find out by clicking play!
We're skating on thin ice for the second instalment in Sarah's season dedicated to true crime movies. This time, we pivot from the bleak darkness of Snowtown to the darkly comic story of figure skater Tonya Harding in Craig Gillespie's I, Tonya. Dan and Sarah dive into this fascinating sports movie that explores domestic abuse, poverty and media sensationalism, while somehow remaining incredibly funny – a precarious balancing act which we discuss at length. There aren't many films about figure skating so it's refreshing to see this true story done justice on the big screen with a stellar cast. We examine the brilliant performances from Margot Robbie, Sebastian Stan, Paul Walter Hauser and Allison Janney as Lavona Golden in an Oscar winning role. This complex portrait of a complicated human being, who was routinely failed and vilified by the media, is not just about the “incident,” it's about the people and the media circus that followed. It's a genuinely re-watchable experience and we hope that you join us. What to expect in this episode: We discuss how director Craig Gillespie managed to effectively balance the dark comedy with the serious reality of domestic abuse. Dan and Sarah compare the media frenzy surrounding Tonya Harding to later events like the O.J Simpson trial and the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard case, highlighting the media's complicity in creating a circus around serious subjects. We praise Gillespie as a solid director with great casting choices, noting the ensemble effort. We explore the meta use of the contradictory interviews and the fourth wall breaks, which highlight that nobody truly knew the objective truth. Expressions of disappointment in the lack of a Flying V. Would you like to see the full lineup for season 13? The only place you can see it is on Patreon but you don't need to be a paying member. Min 4: THE LAST OF US 2: ¿Final rompedor o interruptus forzado?

Editors Nathan Orloff and Shane Reid SATURDAY NIGHT editors Nathan Orloff and Shane Reid team up for the second time in 2024 with their latest Jason Reitman / Gil Keenan project about NBC's long-running sketch comedy show. Having previously cut GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE together, the pair developed a strong working relationship that certainly came in handy when Shane had to do double duty between this project and DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE (2024). SATURDAY NIGHT is a frenetic dramatization of what happened behind the scenes during the ninety minutes leading up to the first broadcast of NBC's Saturday Night on October 11th, 1975, when a dynamic young producer named Lorne Michaels lead a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers in changing television forever. NATHAN ORLOFF Nathan Orloff is known for his editing on TULLY (2018), PLAN B (2021), GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE (2021), JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4 (2023) and GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE (2024). SHANE REID As a partner of the award-winning post house Exile Edit, Shane has been nominated for, and won, multiple awards for his work in the commercial space with top brands including Apple, Adidas, BMW, Hennessy, Audi and the Olympics. He quickly became one of the most trusted short form editors, working with such directors as Damien Chazelle, Terrence Malick, Andrew Dominik, Jason Reitman, Craig Gillespie, Blake Lively, John Hillcoat & Chloe Zhao. He has also cut multiple music videos for Taylor Swift, Paul McCartney, Florence + The Machine and Kamasi Washington. In 2018, Reid edited on the film A Hidden Life for director Terrence Malick. Editors Dean Zimmerman ACE and Shane Reid DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE editors, Dean Zimmerman ACE and Shane Reid are the "buddies" in the cutting room of what is shaping up to be the biggest, R-rated buddy movie of all time. Zimmerman joined this film with two other Shawn Levy / Ryan Reynolds films to his credit, but it would be Mrs. Pool (Blake Lively) who would be Shane Reid's connection into the "Merc With a Mouth" franchise. Deadpool's peaceful existence comes crashing down in DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE when the Time Variance Authority recruits him to help safeguard the multiverse. He soon unites with his would-be pal, Wolverine, to complete the mission and save his world from an existential threat. DEAN ZIMMERMAN, ACE DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE finds Dean collaborating once again with director and longtime friend, Shawn Levy. The two have been working together for over twenty years on projects like the NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM franchise and a little series called STRANGER THINGS. More recently, the two have joined forces with Ryan Reynolds for FREE GUY (2021) and THE ADAM PROJECT (2022). Zimmerman and Levy are currently working on the much-anticipated final season of STRANGER THINGS. Dean's father, Don Zimmerman, is a highly accomplished editor in his own right. Director Craig Gillespie discusses his new film, Dumb Money, with fellow Director Phil Lord in a Q&A at the DGA theater in Los Angeles. In the conversation, he discusses his process in finding a tonal balance between the comedy and serious in his scenes, working with a script so soon after the real-life events transpired, and using real footage, texts and even memes in the film. The film tells the true story of how regular guy, Keith Gill, starts a movement with other novice stock traders to get rich. By turning GameStop into one of the world's hottest companies, he helps make stock market history, much to the chagrin of the finance industry giants who fight back. See photos and a summary of this event below: https://dga.org/Events/2023/December2023/DumbMoney_QnA_1023.aspx
Shares in GameStop, the video game store, experienced a dramatic rise in early in 2021. The stock had captured the imagination of many individual investors who heard about it on social media platforms such as TikTok and Reddit. Some investors made a lot of money, while some hedge funds, who had bet against the stock, lost billions. Eventually, though, GameStop shares crashed back to earth and many investors lost the lot. The story has been dramatised by Hollywood in ‘Dumb Money', currently screening in cinemas. Vivienne Nunis sits down with the film's director Craig Gillespie and financial journalist Matt Levine to investigate what the GameStop saga teaches us about the power of social media when it comes to influencing the movements of the stock market. It's another jam-packed episode of the Empire Podcast this week, as Chris Hewitt chats to three very different directors, and learns a lot about them (and himself) along the way. First up is John Carney, the Irish director of ultra-charming musical comedy-dramas like Sing Street and his new movie, Flora & Son, who tells Chris all about his first guitar, focusing on his childhood, and directing Eve Hewson in the title role. Then Gareth Edwards, who makes a triumphant return this week with new sci-fi The Creator some seven years after his bruising experience directing Rogue One, sits down with Chris for a natter about opening weekends, and forging the right creative path. And last but not least, Chris talks caps (financial and sartorial) with Craig Gillespie, director of Dumb Money. Then, in the virtual podbooth, Chris is joined by Helen O'Hara and James Dyer for a fun episode in which they talk about the movie they've seen most often in the last ten years; discuss actual movie news in the week that the Writers' Strike finally got resolved; and review Saw X, No One Will Save You, The Creator, and The Old Oak, which is reportedly the last film for the legendary Ken Loach. Oh, and James declares war on a badger. Enjoy. On this week's episode, Sonny Bunch (The Bulwark), Alyssa Rosenberg (The Washington Post), and Peter Suderman (Reason) celebrate the end of the writers strike and ask a very important question: what the heck took so long for the studio execs to sit down and work out a deal with the writers? Then they review Dumb Money, Craig Gillespie's look at the pandemic-era bubble surrounding meme stock AMC. As an underdog-beating-the-big-guys story, it's … eh. But as a pandemic movie and an examination of the ways in which it made us all go a little nuts, it's really quite interesting. Make sure to swing by Bulwark+ on Friday for our bonus episode about the end of prestige TV and the retrenchment to more populist fare. And if you enjoyed this episode, make sure to share it with a friend!
