Meet Pope Leo XIV: The First American Pontiff

Mark Levin Podcast

On Thursday's Mark Levin Show, Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost has become the first American Pope in the history of the Catholic Church - Pope Leo XIV. Prevost's election reflects his close alignment with Pope Francis's vision on issues like the environment, poverty, and synodality. We'll see what he does, but hopefully, he is more along the lines of John Paul II. His extensive missionary work in Peru and fluency in multiple languages were likely factors in his selection by the papal conclave. Later, President Trump's deal with Britain really is a very big deal. It's part of his strategy to open worldwide markets and create a more market-oriented global economy, which is why it is pro-capitalism and more free-market oriented. He imposed tariffs and reciprocity on other countries for leverage to force them to lower their tariffs and reduce foreign government subsidies of their businesses. Trump is creating the most open market system in modern world history. Afterward, Sen Tom Cotton calls in to explain that any new nuclear deal with Iran that does not involve the complete dismantlement of its nuclear program will not pass the Senate. Republicans agree with Trump that Iran needs to completely dismantle their program.  Finally, Rishi Arun, president of Temple University's Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), stated that it is their mission to destroy imperialism, the United States, and capitalism. Mohammed Khatib, from the designated terror organization Samidoun, said that liberating Palestine would be a step toward dismantling the United States. They seek the violent overthrow of America - they are at war with us. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

This week's episode of CURE America with Star Parker brings a powerful and urgent focus on Israel's war against Hamas, following the brutal October 7th terrorist attacks. With Israel under fire and global anti-Semitism rising, Star and her guests tackle the need for bold U.S. leadership in standing unapologetically with Israel.   E.J. Kimball, from the Combat Anti-Semitism Movement, exposes how radical groups like Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) are openly spreading pro-Hamas propaganda across more than 200 U.S. college campuses. This is not just about politics—this is a calculated, dangerous rise in anti-Semitism, masked as anti-Zionism, targeting both Israel and America's foundational Judeo-Christian values.   Greg Gross, a defense expert, makes it clear that the Biden administration's weak, indecisive response is hurting Israel. He contrasts this with President Trump's strong leadership in advancing the Abraham Accords and supporting Israel without compromise. Gross argues that any ceasefire would only serve Hamas' interests, putting Israel—and global stability—at even greater risk. Star Parker and her guests call for real action, urging viewers to pressure universities and government leaders to stop funding groups that promote anti-Semitic violence. This episode delivers a strong message: now is the time to defend Israel, protect our values, and demand accountability from weak leadership that is failing both America and its allies.

Since the launch of the global Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel and the collapse of the Oslo Peace Process in the early aughts, the college campus has been a locus of American political conflict over Israel/Palestine. As student Palestine solidarity activists have attempted to introduce BDS resolutions across the country, Israel advocacy organizations have responded by building a vast organizing infrastructure to intervene in student debates about Israel, painting campuses as threatening and hostile places for Jewish students and pushing for greater restrictions on pro-Palestine student speech. In only the latest example, members of the NYU law school's Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapter—half of them Jewish—are facing media defamation for a statement the group sent to the law school listserv. A discussion examining the roots of the explosion and mass protests currently unfolding in Lebanon with speakers on the ground in Beirut. ----- Please join the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) International Committee and Haymarket Books for this forum examining the momentous events currently unfolding in Lebanon, featuring three speakers on the ground in Beirut. The massive explosion that rocked Beirut on August 4 revealed the depths of the Lebanese ruling elite's criminal mismanagement. The explosion and mass protests that followed come on the heels of a year-long economic crisis and popular revolt. Since October 17, 2019 the people of Lebanon have been in the streets again and again struggling to transform the country's sectarian-oligarchic political and economic system. Now in the wake of the COVID crisis, economic collapse, and devastation caused by elite incompetence which has driven 300,000 people from their homes, the people of Lebanon are rising up again. What can we learn from Lebanon's long uprising and how can we show solidarity? Speakers: Rima Majed is a writer, activist, and Assistant Professor of Sociology at the American University of Beirut (AUB). Her research focuses on social movements, sectarianism, conflict and violence in the Middle East. She has written extensively on the political economy of sectarianism, protests and uprisings in Lebanon and Iraq, structural transformations and unemployment in postwar Lebanon, and the importance of labor organization. Her work has appeared in a range of academic journals and media outlets, including Social Forces, Mobilization, Global Dialogue, Idafat: The Arab Journal of Sociology, Al Jumhuriya, CNN, Middle East Eye, openDemocracy, and Al Jazeera English. She is currently working on a book that looks at sectarian capitalism and the shift in sectarian boundaries in Lebanon. Lara Bitar is a journalist in Beirut and the founding editor of The Public Source, a Beirut-based independent media organization that covers socioeconomic and environmental crises afflicting Lebanon since the onset of neoliberal governance in the 1990s and provides political commentary on events unfolding since October 17, 2019. Bassel Salloukh is Associate Professor of Political Science at the Lebanese American University (LAU) in Beirut. He is co-author of The Politics of Sectarianism in Postwar Lebanon (2015) and Beyond the Arab Spring: Authoritarianism and Democratization in the Arab World (2012) and co-editor of Persistent Permeability? Regionalism, Localism, and Globalization in the Middle East (2004). Moderator: Shireen Akram-Boshar is a socialist activist and alum of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP). She has organized around the question of the Syrian uprising and the relationship between Syrian and Palestinian struggles for liberation, as well as on anti-imperialism and solidarity with the revolts of the Middle East/North Africa region. Her writing has covered the repression of Palestine solidarity activists in the US, revolution and counterrevolution in the Middle East, Trump's war on immigrants, and the fight against the far right. In the first Proles of the Minyan interview episode, Shelby Shoup joins the Minyan to discuss Zionist cultural replication and the potential for leftist organizing among Reform Jewish youth. Shelby is the former Social Action Vice President (SAVP) of the North American Federation of Temple Youth (NFTY), the youth organization within the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ), and she is the current president of the Florida State University (FSU) chapter of Students for Justice with Palestine (SJP). There are a lot of acronyms in this one. She gives us the inside scoop on throwing diary products at reactionaries, the "progressive except for Palestine" hypocrisy within the URJ, and the mechanisms by which NFTY, and their summer camp system in particular, serves to prop up Zionist hegemony over Jewish youth in the United States and Canada. She also shares her journey out from under that hegemony and towards anti-Zionism, anti-racism, and anti-imperialism organizing with SJP and Tallahassee Dream Defenders. The Minyan also debuts two new segments, shouts out Eli Valley and Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP, as if there weren't enough acronyms), and declares undying love and support for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP... last one, promise).
