Last week proved to be a whirlwind for Americans and Europeans and for those observing events around the world. The week began with Trump's tariff threat against eight European countries that opposed his claims of U.S. control over Greenland. It then escalated with the EU mulling over a trade bazooka and Trump doubling down on claims over Greenland. He even shared a post on Truthsocial showing Greenland as a part of the U.S. And then at Davos, Trump emphasised the importance of Greenland again to the U.S. But the week ended with Trump discarding his tariff threats, though Greenland is still in the cards. As the nation absorbed the shock of Alex Pretti's killing in Minneapolis, the state of Minnesota argued in federal court that the Trump administration was violating the 10th Amendment with Operation Metro Surge. Asha and Renato discuss how the federalism argument can be a check on the Trump administration, which appears to be using 3,000 ICE and Border Patrol agents to intimidate Minnesota officials into doing what it wants. Plus, Renato and Asha analyze ICE's contention that its agents can use administrative “warrants” to enter a person's home to conduct a search and arrest, possibly violating the 4th Amendment. In the latest episode of The Break–Down, host Adrienne Buller is joined by renowned economist Ann Pettifor to discuss her new book, The Global Casino: How Wall Street Gambles with People and Planet. We've all heard the refrain. Whenever a politician proposes a policy that might genuinely improve people's lives — free and fast buses, affordable housing, large-scale renewable energy — the response is immediate: we can't afford it. Media pundits and technocrats fixate on national debt, balanced budgets and the need not to “spook” the ever-mysterious bond vigilantes. This obsession doesn't just dominate public debate — it paralyses action on the very challenges we urgently need to confront, from transforming our energy system to properly funding care for the most vulnerable. As this episode makes clear, it's also profoundly misleading. The Global Casino traces the extraordinary power of Wall Street, revisits Keynes's legacy, and asks a fundamental question: what is money, really? For Ann Pettifor, money is an extraordinary human invention — one that could be used to reshape our world for the better, rather than to enrich a powerful few.In today's episode, she explains how — and why it matters now more than ever.

Proposals don't just happen—they're designed, rehearsed in whispers, and pulled off with split-second timing. We sat down with Erin from Gambles Photography to explore how a great proposal balances a partner's personality with clean light, camera-friendly angles, and the kind of logistics that keep a surprise actually surprising. From stealthy “hide in the bushes” shots to full cinematic builds with candles, picnics, and rooftop letters, Erin shares the playbook she's refined across years of yeses. You'll hear why the first question isn't about location, it's about the human at the center: do they want quiet and private or bold and public? That choice shapes everything—venue scouting at the exact hour for ideal light, choosing the approach path, texting signals that won't raise suspicion, and even deciding which way to face so the reaction lands in frame. Erin breaks down last-minute saves and big builds alike: a ring that almost vanished into a river, a Belize pier picnic with a rogue kid and a stubborn sea breeze, a Tangled-inspired lantern aisle that flips into a surprise party, and a joyous double proposal in Eureka Springs that turned one plan into two perfect moments.Along the way, we trade practical tips that make photos shine without killing the magic. Think “nails check” to avoid post-edit marathons, rainy-day contingency plans that still feel romantic, boat logistics when the spot is an island, and the small posing cues that protect the face, the light, and the story. We also talk about the long arc—how a single proposal shoot can lead to engagements, weddings, maternity sessions, and a trusted creative partner who knows your rhythm as a couple. If you're dreaming of a destination proposal—or Erin's bucket-list love-lock bridge in Germany—this conversation will help you shape a moment that feels true, looks beautiful, and survives the unexpected with grace. Love thoughtful planning, real emotion, and stress-tested photography tips? Hit play, subscribe for more behind-the-scenes stories, and share your dream proposal idea with us. We'd love to hear how you'd design your perfect yes.
UPS is currently stuck between dropping parcel rates, rising union leverage, and stiff competition from their peers. Unlike their peers, UPS is unionized (part of the Teamsters), adding additional complexity and bottom-line pressure. Not one to give up after 120 years in business, UPS has been looking for creative ways to make ends meet without disappointing the public. They created a massive buyout opportunity for drivers and have been working with gig drivers to handle spikes in seasonal volume without paying expensive overtime. Both strategies are saving them money, but running afoul of the Teamsters in the process. In this episode of the Art of Supply podcast, Kelly Barner looks at UPS's challenges and the creative options they are trying in response: Leveraging gig drivers while warning against the danger of a loosely-managed final mile Introducing automation where they can, shutting warehouses where they can't Working to maintain a premium delivery service in a world dominated by low-cost eCommerce volume Links: Negotiating the Big One: UPS and the Teamsters Labor Union Kelly Barner on LinkedIn Art of Supply LinkedIn newsletter Art of Supply on AOP Subscribe to This Week in Procurement

What happens when ordinary objects become instruments of our own destruction? Both "The Fever" and "A Most Unusual Camera" explore how material possessions can transform from sources of pleasure into agents of doom, revealing the dark side of human greed and obsession. In "The Fever," Franklin Gibbs, a man who despises gambling, becomes hypnotically obsessed with a slot machine during a Las Vegas trip with his wife. The machine seems to call his name, driving him to compulsive gambling until his sanity completely unravels. Meanwhile, "A Most Unusual Camera" follows a petty thief couple who discover their stolen camera can photograph events five minutes into the future. Their attempts to exploit this supernatural ability for personal gain ultimately lead to their tragic demise. While neither of them make the list of our favorite episodes, they each masterfully demonstrate how objects that promise fortune and control can become prisons of obsession. Whether it's the hypnotic pull of spinning reels or the intoxicating power of seeing the future, these tales remind us that some gifts come with a price too terrible to pay. Craig Collins remains in for Greg Corombos, and he notices a big mafia story arrives, just in time to honor his Italian heritage. Craig and Jim applaud some new Trump administration decisions on Ukraine, lament the fact that Zohran Mamdani looks like a shoo in to be the next mayor of New York City, and marvel at a big sports gambling scandal that led to the arrest of an NBA player and coach. First, Craig and Jim note that while it's been a long time coming, the Trump administration is hitting Russian oil giants Rosneft and Lukoil with new sanctions, cutting off the Russian firms from American banking systems and financial institutions, essentially barring them from operating in U.S. dollars. Trump is finally getting wise to the fact that all of his seemingly good conversations with Vladimir Putin never seem to results in Putin's policies. Next, President Trump doesn't see any way that anyone can beat Zohran Mamdani in the New York City mayor's race, and there's not a lot of evidence to counter the president's conclusion. In a year where a lot has gone right for the GOP, a major frustration is that no argument about Mamdani's extremism on everything from economics to policing to geopolitics has seemed to get traction. Finally, the Portland Trail Blazers face a tough lineup of opponents this year – the Warriors, the Lakers, and the FBI. The Bureau announced that it had arrested Blazers coach Chauncey Billups and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier as part of a pair of wide-ranging investigations related to illegal sports betting and rigged poker games backed by the Mafia. Jim and Craig acknowledge that while sports gambling is wildly popular, particularly among young men, the temptations and dangers of widespread legal sports gambling were predictable.Get 20% off your first purchase of classic menswear. Hello Rank Squad! There are certain clubs and players who need something new to set their seasons back on track, and the potential for drastic change is just around the corner with the January Transfer Market opening in under two weeks. We take a look at some of the gambles that clubs could take in the market, and whether they might be good enough to save sagging seasons. Before that, we examine the interview with Marcus Rashford released on Tuesday by Henry Winter, where he said he was ready for his next challenge. What does that mean? Where does it leave his future at Manchester United? And where could he possibly go in January if that's an option?Jack also finishes off with a mini ranking of the best football books he's read this year, in case anyone is looking for a couple of gifts to ask for in their Christmas Stocking, to finish things off! And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?
The Lions beat the Packers 34-31 and Dan Campbell gambled with :43 left and it paid off. The Lions offensive coordinator will be at the top of the list for a lot of teams for their head coach openings.
