In Embracing Paradox, Evolving Language (2024), L.E. Maroski proposes that humanity is poised on the cusp of a transformation of consciousness that requires not only a shift in values and perspectives, but also a shift in a basic technology we take for granted--language.  Maroski questions the cultural assumptions that are built into the structure of language and invites the reader to imagine and ultimately to help develop novel structures of language that arise from different assumptions.  To do so, she shows how we can draw inspiration from paradoxical topological forms, such as the Mobius strip and Klein bottle, as they embody both unity and duality/multiplicity.  By seeing our reality not simply in terms of either/or but also in terms of both(many)/and, perhaps we can better appreciate the wholeness of all existence.   For more information about Lisa, please see: https://lisamaroski.com This podcast is available on your favorite podcast platform, or here:https://endoftheroad.libsyn.com/episode-299-le-maroski-embracing-paradox-evolving-language-expressing-the-unity-and-complexity-of-integral-consciousness Have a blessed week!

In today's very special podcast we will re-air a discussion that was originally recorded and produced by our good friends at the East-West Psychology Department of the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) for their own program, the East-West Psychology Podcast (https://east-westpsychologypodcast.com/). The discussion itself is an introduction to a set of two conferences to be held at the California Institute of Integral Studies in celebration of “150 Years of Sri Aurobindo, the Pioneer of Integral Consciousness.” The conferences will take place over the course of a week, starting on September 23, 2023 and concluding on September 30. This discussion is hosted by the East-West Psychology Podcast producers, Stephen Julich and Jonathan Kay. In this conversation, Circle for Original Thinking host and current Jean Gebser Society president, Glenn Aparicio Parry is a guest, along with Debashish Banerji, Chairman of the East-West Psychology Department. We hope this program will provide our listeners with some background on these very important conferences, and the life and work of Sri Aurobindo (1872-1950) who was the key figure in the development of a form of spiritual practice he called  “integral yoga,” as well as the life and work of the Swiss philosopher and visionary, Jean Gebser, author of the magnum opus, The Everpresent Origin. THE CONFERENCES: The first conference, “Sustainability and Contemplative Civilization: The Integral Vision of Sri Aurobindo,” organized by the East-West Psychology Department (EWP) and the Asian Contemplative and Transcultural Studies concentration (ACTS), will engage with the possibilities, problems and potential of a sustainable civilization based on a contemplative praxis of deep relationality and extended identity as implicit in the vision and teaching of Sri Aurobindo and as explicit in the experimental community of Auroville.   The second conference, “The Emergence of Integral Consciousness: Jean Gebser, Sri Aurobindo, Carl Jung, Teilhard De Chardin,” organized by the Jean Gebser Society, will address the coming integral age as foreseen by Gebser, Aurobindo, Jung, and Teilhard de Chardin. Each of these visionary thinkers in their own way foresaw the emergence of a new structure of consciousness beyond the limits of rational thought. Debashish Banerji is a Bengali scholar and Haridas Chaudhuri Professor of Indian Philosophies and Cultures and the Doshi Professor of Asian Art at CIIS. He is also the Program Chair for the East-West Psychology department. Prior to CIIS, he served as Professor of Indian Studies and Dean of Academics at the University of Philosophical Research in Los Angeles, CA.Stephen Julich is currently core faculty in the East-West Psychology Department at the California Institute of Integral Studies where he teaches classes Jungian Depth Psychology and Western Mysticism, Magic and Esotericism.Jonathan Kay is a transcultural musician, and is currently a PhD student in the department of East-West Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco under the mentorship of Dr. Debashish Banerji. We wish to again state our very deep gratitude to the people at the East-West Psychology Department and the California Institute of Integral Studies for the critical work that they do every day, and their generosity in sharing the content of this episode with Circle for Original Thinking. For more information about the conferences:https://www.ciis.edu/events/150-years-of-sri-aurobindo-pioneer-of-integral-consciousnessAlso please visit:https://www.ciis.edu/https://www.ciis.edu/academics/department-east-west-psychologyhttps://east-westpsychologypodcast.com/https://gebser.org/www.jonathankay.ca

Here is another very special episode of my podcast devoted to Integral Theory and Holacracy. This time we sat down with Dennis Wittrock, one of the early pioneers of Holacracy in Europe. He was a host and translator of the first Holacracy workshops in 2007 in Europe, when the practice was still entirely unknown. Today Dennis is a certified Holacracy coach and currently works for an official Holacracy provider Xpreneurs. Apart from that, he is also filling roles for encode.org, a consulting company powered by Holacracy which is creating legal, social, and financial foundations for self-organization. Previously he supported for 2,5 years Holacracy adoption at Hypoport SE, a fintech-company listed in the German stock-market (SDAX) with over 2.000 employees as internal Holacracy coach. His thought and action is deeply influenced by the topic of transdisciplinarity and Ken Wilber's integral methodological pluralism. Dennis is the founder and co-director of the Integral European Conference (2014/ 2016) and was CEO and board member of the German Integral Association Integrales Forum and the German Integral Academy (DIA) for several years. We met with Dennis at the Holacracy Forum in Amsterdam. The conversation took us deep into Dennis's personal journey through the early attraction with the Ken Wilber's integral theory to the fascination and engagement with the Holacracy practice today. Hope you enjoy! “Ask yourself how can all these different perspectives on the same phenomena be right, or become more curious about things when something doesn't fit your worldview. Under which circumstances can somebody come up with these ideas? What are the parameters that need to be in place for this truth to emerge for this person in that moment? What is the place you have to stand on, or what are the shoes you have to stand in for those perspectives to make sense? I think that's something we are in deep need to make better connections, especially in the age of hyperpolarization where people stop asking questions. If something doesn't fit their worldview, then you're immediately the enemy, which is terrible. So we need more curiosity, more real listening. I think that's what I would like to leave the listeners with.” – Dennis Wittrock Listen and enjoy!

All separation thinking leads to discrimination and denomination. The Narrative is a story of the evolution or growth of integral conscious (God as all in all) from ethnocentric thinking that divides people into tribes to a new tier of thinking that has eyes to see human identity as universal.

The global conversation is happening and synergy groups are formulating a new unitive narrative based on world-centric thinking. All fields of study are joining in and this has led to a movement of convergence. But does the Biblical Narrative affirm the principles being put forth by science, art, technology, economics, education and many more? Or do we water down the Biblical Narrative by proposing that God is in this new way of thinking? Today we discuss these questions further in order to see where we fit into an ever changing planet.  I believe we are on the cusp of an amazing breakthrough for a Narrative that is becoming of less and less interest to people.

More and more people are seeing something exciting amid the chaos. It seems that science, art, technology, education etc. are coming together to create a new unitive narrative. Amazing! Some 2,000 years ago the apostle John said that all nations would walk in the light of a New Jerusalem as a cataclysmic shift in cosmology moved humanity into a New Heaven and Earth. This is the space of convergence of all fields of study and experience.   #BiblicalNarrative #Theology #convergence #integral #cosmology #integraltheory #consciousness #spiritualawakening

JF and Phil have been talking about doing a show on The Glass Bead Game since Weird Studies' earliest beginnings. It is a science-fiction novel that alights on some of the key ideas that run through the podcast: the dichotomy of work and play, the limits and affordances of institutional life, the obscure boundary where certainty gives way to mystery... Throughout his literary career, Hesse wrote about people trying to square their inner and outer selves, their life in the spirit and their life in the world. The Glass Bead Game brings this central concern to a properly ambiguous and heartbreaking conclusion. But the novel is more than a brilliant work of philosophical or psychological literature. It is also an act of prophecy -- one that seems intended for us now. Header image by Liz West, via Wikimedia Commons (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Green_marbles_2.jpg). Jeremy Johnson and I shared an epic adventure of a discussion. We delve deep into the ideas of Jean Gebser and trace the contours of just how prescient the ideas in Ever Present Origin really were. We touch on the evolution of perspective throughout art history, the promising synthesis of the Integral movement with Cosmo-Localism and also the progressive legacy of Michael Brooks. There is poetry, complex ideas, concrete ideas and I even have a go at pronouncing the 50 syllable long german word for the 'phenomenology of becoming consciousness'. It was a real pleasure to spend some time in Jeremy's verdant noosphere, I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did. https://www.mutations.blog/ A link to Jeremys book Seeing Through The World: Jean Gebser & Integral Consciousness

Cali Claptrap: Integral Conversations

Jeremy Johnson is the author of "Seeing Through the World: Jean Gebser and Integral Consciousness" and President of the Gebser Society. "Seeing Through the World" is a tour de force and a required book for any integral library. John son writes, "Gebser offers us a way of thinking about the present that is difficult to disagree with in any of its major points: the structures of consciosuness are palpable realities that can be recognized by the careful reader in a concrete way, the Janus-faced interim age between the mental and the integral inform us on our current crisis between technology and the biosphere, capitalism and a future menas of distributive and immanent Gaian politics." Impossible to cover the intensity and range of Gebser's work in this small podcast, I attempt to have Jeremy give his best shot at describing how we arrived at our current crisis and a possible Gebserian prescription for its remedy. I was advised to never discuss religion and politics at parties, but if we truly are on the cusp on an Integral age in this participitory cosmos then there is no hiding from spirituality or our eco/socio/politico orientations. How can we transition from "homo faber to homo integer"? How can we restore the sacredness to our individual lives, institutions and culture? Please join Jeremy and I as we explore topics that I believe are essential to the salvation and future of humanity.  You can find Jeremy Johnson @ https://www.patreon.com/jeremyjohnson and on Twitter @ jdj_writes

Our first 3 episodes have traced the evolution of Christological hermeneutics over the last 2,000 years. The 3 world views of Traditional, Modern and Postmodern have all contributed to thousands of denominated, separated groups who share one common theme. When Theology has encountered Christology it resulted in a world religion.  But those who write and research in the field of Integral Consciousness point to the appearance of a new level or stage of hermeneutics. An integral approach to Theology and the role of Christology within it results in an outcome beyond religion. The Narrative itself becomes the pointing finger toward that which is Ultimate.  We have seen in the last episode that attachment to form is common to all 3 previous worldviews with regard to identity. But what about the Biblical Narrative as a form? How should we understand the role and function of narratives in general? What about other narratives? And let’s recall the statement of Jerry Martin, “Is TWW a form of comparative theology? Yes, if it is understood as a Comparative Theology Without Walls. But it is an alternative to those forms of comparative theology that are essentially confessional, seeking to enhance one’s theology by studying another tradition.” Note how the concern of any comparative theology revolves around its forms. We will look at 2 specific chapters in the TWW book for this discussion. First will be Paul Knitter, author of “Without Buddha I Could Not Be a Christian.” Secondly we’ll consider the work of Jeffery D. Long on “A Hinduism Without Walls? Exploring The Concept of The Avatar Interreligiously.” To view this Zoom video recording click HERE #TheologyWithoutWalls #Theology #Spirituality #SpiritualButnotReligious #PostReligion #PostReligious #Integral #IntegralTheology #Bible #Buddhism #Hinduism #Transnarrative #Christology #Christianity #SpiralDynamics

The German poet and philosopher Jean Gebser's major work, The Ever-Present Origin, is a monumental study of the evolution of consciousness from prehistory to posthistory. For Gebser, consciousness adopts different "structures" at different times and in different contexts, and each structure reveals certain facets of reality while potentially occluding others. An integral human being is one who can utilize all of the structures according to the moment or situation. As Gebserian scholar Jeremy Johnson explains in this episode, modern humans are currently experiencing the transition from the "perspectival" structure which formed in the late Middle Ages to the "aperspectival," a new way of seeing and being that first revealed itself in the art of the Modernists. Jeremy Johnson is the author of Seeing Through the World: Jean Gebser and Integral Consciousness. Seeing Through the World introduces the reader to the work of German-Swiss philosopher, poet, and intellectual mystic Jean Gebser. Writing in the mid-20th century during a period of intense cultural transformation and crisis in Europe, Gebser intuited a series of mutational leaps in the history of human consciousness, the latest of which emerging was the "integral" structure, marked by the presence of a concept Gebser called time-freedom. Jeremy says that Gebser's structures of consciousness are as significant an ontological insight as Carl Jung's "reality of the psyche." Yet, until now, very little secondary literature has been available in the English-speaking world as it relates to Gebser and his work. And, until now, very few podcasts have been recorded about Gebser and his work, but that is why Jeremy is here: to guide us through these structures and to show us how this integral structure of consciousness is a means of divination, a crystal ball we can scry with to further illuminate what it is about our current age that seems so damn different. A lot of scrying coming up, indeed, and a lot of prying too, because we’re pulling the lid back on that third eye of yours and pushing our way into that ear canal with another case of this nasty sonically transmitted discourse.   PATREON EXTENSION Listen at patreon.com/occulture Gebser’s concept of Origin Gebser’s concept of time-freedom Westworld & mass consciousness shifts The synergy between Gebser’s work & recent guest Douglas Rushkoff’s Team Human book   RESOURCES Seeing Through the World on IndieBound Seeing Through the World on Amazon Jeremy’s website Jeremy on Facebook Jeremy on Instagram Jeremy on Twitter Jeremy’s podcast Nura Learning   DONATE If recurring monthly support via Patreon isn’t your thing, we do accept one time-donations via PayPal, Bitcoin, Ethereum and Ripple. The Intellectual Dark Web — the term was coined by IDW member Eric Weinstein — refers to a loosely bound worldwide internet community of over a hundred major thinkers (and hundreds of millions of views) who do not find any present day intellectual trends to be that inviting. They don’t like the far Right, but they don’t like the far Left either — they’re looking for a much more unified and inclusive ways of thinking. In an article posted on the Rebel Wisdom website — a website that was created in part due to a very positive response to the work of Jordan Peterson — David Fuller makes the following observation: “It was while watching these two interviews in quick succession—Dave Rubin’s talk with Ben Shapiro and Jordan Peterson, and his discussion with Eric and Bret Weinstein—that I came to my conclusion of what the conversation actually represented! It mapped clearly onto a model I was familiar with—the philosopher Ken Wilber’s idea of ‘Integral’ consciousness as an essential evolutionary leap. I’m going to argue that the conversation is an early but spontaneous manifestation of a more advanced way of thinking that Wilber calls ‘Integral.’ I’m going to apply Ken Wilber’s Integral Theory to the Intellectual Dark Web….” Integral Theory — or technically, Integral Metatheory — seems to be applicable here because it is basically an attempt to draw together as many different approaches to truth as we possibly can and integrate them in a unified framework. Integral sometimes refers to all these different truths as ones that include Waking Up, Growing Up, Cleaning Up, Opening Up, and Showing Up.

A conversation with Doshin Michael Nelson, founder of Integral Zen. The upside of the Green postmodern stage of development is astonishing. After countless centuries of brutality, culminating in the horrors of World War II, this new leading edge of consciousness emerged with an ethos of sensitivity and a mission to rehabilitate the victims of history, including the slaves of the Red power stage, the sinners of the Amber traditional stage and the losers of the Orange modern stage, as well as to grant a new moral status to the domains of animals and nature. The downside of the Green altitude is that it has lost faith in humanity. It is allergic to truth claims, it ridicules convention and is deeply suspicious of power. It's role is deconstructive, which it often plays so thoroughly that there is nothing left for its adherents to hold on to. Welcome to the cutting edge of human evolution in the 21st-century! In this episode Jeff is interviewed by Doshin Michael Nelson, founder of Integral Zen, about the nature of Green and the Integral way forward.
