We get a chance to talk with the owner/driver about the car, and what he finds appealing about running in this class.Join us for more from In Wheel Time Car Talk, you can visit our website for more: InWheelTimeCarTalk.comIf you like what you hear, let your friends know and leave us a review so we know how we are doing.---- ----- Want more In Wheel Time Car Talk any time? This week we talk about the last Club Loose event: NO FEAR MOVES. Kris and Karl both drove this event so we get some great feedback from drivers about seat time, pavement condition, track rules/workers, etc. This is one of our favorite events of the year because it's one of the few held in the parking lot of Raceway Park. It's a great change of scenery from the road course and decently technical for what it is. The Get Out N Drive Podcast made the road trip to SEMA 2021! One of the highlights of the show was hosting having the guys host the Get Out N Drive Podcast from the Racing Junk booth. When you are hanging out in the Racing Junk booth, some cool folks stop by. The mics were set to ow and the car talk took off...FAST with Nitro Joe Morrison. Be sure to visit Nitro Joe's site to learn more and to follow him on social media. Joe Morrison is a 2nd generation drag racer, entrepreneur, and musician. This uncommon combination of skill sets, all of which he pursues with passion and determination to be the best he can be, creates a unique and holistic approach to motorsports. Whether it is driving, interacting with fans, or working to provide ROI to sponsors; Joe approaches each opportunity with professionalism, enthusiasm, and a desire to continue perfecting his craft. Joe's love affair with driving started out with his first go-cart purchased with money he earned by cutting neighbors lawns at the tender age of 10. With some sage advice from his racing dad, Chuck; Joe soon began modifying the engine and adding “model airplane” fuel containing methanol and 20% nitro methane in order to improve performance and be like his racing heroes “Jungle” Jim Liberman, Don “The Snake” Prudhomme, and “Big Daddy” Don Garlits. By the time he drove his 1970 4 speed Chevelle at historic Raceway Park on opening day in 1988, it was no surprise that he went all the way to the final earning a runner up in his very first drag race. It was not until (of all days) September 11, 2001 at Atco Dragway that Joe earned his competition license with Doug Foley's drag race school. After “renting” race cars for several events, in 2006 Joe became part owner and driver of a 7 second Fiat Altered for former Top Fuel and Comp Eliminator racer Mike Gillespie. Last year, we talk with the managment of Houston Raceway Park in Baytown, Texas, about the future of the track.Houston Raceway Park is one of the historic NHRA venues for more than 30 years. The track is home to numourous record breaking runs making it a facility that the racers look forward to attending. For the spectators? Plenty of track side seating and a pit area large enough for walking through to see the cars and people closer than then starting line. Unfortunately, the track property was sold, making the 2022 NHRA Spring Nationals the last event. Fortunately Seth shared with us that the track would remain open until the end of 2022 for local racers and some special events that were looking for a new home. It is a crazy world. This time we asked Seth about 2023 rumors and he did confirm that arrangments have been made for the track to remain operational for one more year! Will NHRA return in 2023? Hard to say but they have not announced where the 2023 Spring Nationals will move to, so hopefully the big plans for the 2022 event won't be the last.Stayed tuned to In Wheel Time Car Talk for more on the Houston Raceway Park.--- -----In Wheel Time Car Talk is now available on iHeart Radio! Unfortiunately, it was announced late 2021 that the Houston Raceway Park would be closing after the 2022 NHRA Spring Nationals, a key highlight event of NHRA. The combination of an excellant facility, 'management and weather has made the Houston track known as a record setting facilty. Things being what they are, the land the track sits on changed hands and is bound for a different use. The good news here is that the plans for the change has been delayed so instead of the 2022 NHRA Spring Nationals being the last event, the track will continue to operate for the remainder of the 2022 race season. If you hear of a Kid Rock concert coming to ARP, you know Michelle's dream has become reality as her “rockstar” status in the track ownership world is hitting a high note.

In this week’s episode we explore Dick’s Picks Vol. 15, from Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ on September 3, 1977. One of the biggest Dead shows of all time, we dive back into the halcyon year of 1977, hearing the band play a greatest hits type of show following their cancelled Summer Tour after Mickey’s car accident. Highlighted by tight playing and a killer setlist, it’s one of the most popular Dick’s Picks ever released. Disc One is highlighted by a brilliant “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo” and a gorgeous “Friend Of The Devil.” On Disc Two “Bertha” and “Eyes Of The World highlight the first half of the second set,” while on Disc Three “He’s Gone” fades into a unique jam before easing into a stunning take on “Not Fade Away.” A jam that wouldn’t have felt out of place in 1970, it hears The Dead exploring the darker terrain that fit the early 1970’s more than the Disco era. It’s a great overall snippet of The Dead at another peak period just passed their first hiatus. 36 from the Vault is production of Osiris Media. It is edited and produced and mastered by Brian Brinkman. All music composed by Amar Sastry, unless otherwise noted. Logo design by Liz Bee Art & Design. Show #88 June 22, 2009 Local Florida short track racing news update followed by three stellar example of the success of KART racing in America. Rohn Moon Many-time WKA National Champion, and arguably Florida's most successful oval karter in history. Rohn accomplished the impossible in 2001, capturing FOUR national titles with the highly-competitive WKA Briggs and Stratton National Dirt Series. Rohn also won many, many races at the worlds largest karting event, the annual Dirt Track World Championships at Municipal Stadium, in Daytona Beach, Florida. Simply making the "A" main was an accomplishment, and Rohn was a dominating force at the Stadium for many years in his feared black #56. Dave Evans Is a 65 year old resident of St. Petersburg, Florida. As a young boy in the late 50's, Dave and his father would frequent the infamous Raceway Park near Chicago, where Dave would cheer on one of the winningest drivers of all time, Bud Koehler. In 1960, Dave was just becoming interested in karting, when he happened to become the 10,000th member of the Grand Prix Kart Club of America. This earned him a new kart from Putt-Nik karting and a place on the team (expenses paid) to race in Nassau Bahamas for the international kart race! Almost 50 years later, Dave is still karting, competing in the TAG Master class with the Florida Karting Championship Series, with no plans of quitting any time soon! Dave proudly displays Bud Koehler's #77 on his kart today, as a tribute to his boyhood hero. Darrell Legg Florida's most "diversified" karting promoter, Darrell is unique in Florida karting, in that he is currently operating both a local karting-only facility (Hurricane Speedway in Cocoa, FL), and a series that races at an existing Stock Car track (Central Florida Oval Series). Darrell will discuss his decision to change Hurricane Speedway from pavement to dirt (he laid dirt down on top of the asphalt), share a few of the innovative activities he and wife Mindy have scheduled at their facilities, and talk about the upcoming Florida Dirt Divisional Series (FDDS) state race on July 11 at Hurricane Speedway.
