This week's guests are Gold Steps singer Liz Mauritz and guitarist Zach Duarte. Though the band is currently making a name for itself in Milwaukee with frequent shows, garnering loads of listeners on streaming sites and winning over new fans on a nightly basis during its ambitious tours, the up-and-coming "alt-pop-hyphenated-punk band" actually got its start in Austin. After a few years and a couple hundred shows in and around the musically vibrant Texas capital, Mauritz and Duarte — who are married, by the way — moved back to Mauritz's home state and set their sights on the Milwaukee music scene. Not long after getting back from Gold Steps' latest U.S. tour, Mauritz and Duarte met up with My First Band host Tyler Maas at Milwaukee Record headquarters to talk about the recent run of shows, the reception their great new EP (That Ain't It — out now on Revival Recordings!) and hitting the ground running in their new home base after close to two years of pandemic-prompted inactivity. Over the course of the conversation, Mauritz and Duarte talked about their brief stint in another band, what led to the start of Gold Steps, opportunities and obstacles they experienced in the competitive Austin music scene, the move to Milwaukee and plans for the future of the band. Along the way, Liz talked about her love of Lakefront Brewery, her employer and the beer sponsor of this very show! My First Band is sponsored by Mystery Room Mastering and Lakefront Brewery. The show is edited by Jared Blohm. You can listen to My First Band on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify and wherever else you get podcasts. You can also listen to rebroadcasts of previous My First Band episodes on WMSE every Wednesday from noon to 12:30 p.m. CST. Music used in this episode comes courtesy of Devils Teeth ("The Junction Street Eight Tigers") and Gold Steps ("Petty").

This episode covers vocalist Brian Butcher and drummer Daniel Matson from The Home Team. The Home Team is a four-piece band based in Seattle, Washington who are currently signed to Revival Recordings. While their 2018 album ‘Better Off' can be categorized as traditional pop-punk, the group released ‘Slow Bloom' back in October that drew from a wide variety of influences to create a unique sound that's hard to cleanly place within a genre. . Beginning this Thursday, February 10 through Sunday, March 6, The Home Team will be on the road with This Wild Life and Broadside for the Ever Blossom Tour. Shortly after, the band will be on tour with Point North, Lil Lotus and Concrete Castles. . The conversation ranges from how the group started making music together, to influences, interesting stories on the road, and ultimately how ‘Slow Bloom' became such a unique and monumental release for the band. . Beirut-based record label System Revival is back with yet another superb charity compilation. After two widely successful compilations that label released in 2020 whose funds went towards the victims of the explosion in Beirut, funds from this year's compilation called 'Zero Hunger' will go towards World Food Program. Some of the artists that contributed their work for 'Zero Hunger' compilation are Albert van Abbe, Blazej Malinowski, Charles Green, Einox, Kessel, Mary Yuzovskaya, Miller & Bosscher, Montero & Raul Alvarez, Opuswerk, Tapefeed, Temudo, VSK, Zemög, etc... Our premiere for today is a beautiful drone ambient called 'Immerse' by Berlin-based Blazej Malinowski. Blazej's 'less is more' approach creates peaceful oscillations that come to rest on the ears like a comforting blanket. Its dark ambient tones are paired with drone undercurrents for a pleasant journey into which the listener can drift freely and get lost into the depths of a calm midnight ocean. 'Zero Hunger' compilation is coming out on March 4th via System Revival recordings Blazej Malinowski on SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/blazejmalinowskiofficial Blazej Malinowski on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/blazejmalinowski/ System Revival Recordings on SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/system-revival-recordings www.itsdelayed.com www.instagram.com/_itsdelayed_ www.facebook.com/itsdelayed
