Original broadcast date January 26, 2017. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2017/01/binary-system-podcast-67-sherlock/ Spoiler warnings ahoy! This week the twins finally discuss the final episode of Sherlock Season 4 (maybe the final episode of Sherlock ever?) Also, this is one of the few times when the twins have completely opposite opinions about something. (Weird trivia fact: one of them also doesn't like bananas.) (Kathryn - Ew. Bananas.) (Elizabeth - Hey! Good source of potassium!) After breaking down the episode into little bitty pieces, they also compare notes on Whisky Tango Foxtrot (ah, that accent...) more Oscars coverage, and Harry Potter fan art. The vox.com Sherlock article Elizabeth found is here http://www.vox.com/2017/1/16/14279588/sherlock-finale-final-problem-review. The fan artist Kathryn mentions is burdge, you can find her on tumblr here http://burdge.tumblr.com/. The Harry Potter art we like so much is here. http://burdge.tumblr.com/post/97519807454/i-dont-think-this-is-what-hermione-had-in-mind The Oscars coverage continues for the next few weeks, find links to all the articles posted (which will be updated with every new review) right here https://pixelatedgeek.com/2017/01/oscar-nominations-announced/.
Oh, BBC Sherlock. Once the standout darling of Sherlock Adaptations, time has not treated you well. Coming in at 16th place is Season 1 of the show. Decades of various Sherlock Holmes adaptations have tried to reinvent Doyle’s wheel in so many ways, and in 2012, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss managed to coax the BBC into one enormous stab at bringing the famous crime-solving icon into the modern day. Whilst the initial response was favourable, going back to watch the series these days really leaves you questioning what the hype was about.
We discuss the first season of Sherlock produced by the BBC starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as Sherlock and Watson. Leading the charge in modern enthusiasm in Detective Fiction, this beloved, over-dramatised retelling of Sherlock Holmes in the modern day spawned countless debates over whether the absurdity of its plot devices and visuals actually led to a passable show. Revisiting it now, 10 years later, how does it hold up against the stories it pays homage to? With no points on the table it’s all-out criticism as we begin our foray into modern Sherlock Holmes adaptations.
**Spoilers for The Witcher S1** Today’s episode was recorded B.C., before Covid19, when Jamie stopped by to be tolerated and discuss The Witcher Season 1, starring the imPECcable Henry Cavill. Please enjoy while we mispronounce all the names. Keep streaming! Minor spoilers for the short stories and Sherlock Season 3.
Sydney Magruder Washington is a wife, Dachshund mom, professional ballerina, mental health advocate, and singer living in New York City. At age 11, she was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, followed by subsequent diagnoses of Major Depressive Disorder and Panic Disorder with Agoraphobia. she spent so much of her childhood and teenage years trying to hide her diseases before she came to a realization - I don't have to hide. I'm fine the way I am, and my diagnoses don't make me less than. She spends most of her time in auditions, classes, and rehearsals, but in her free hours she writes and speaks out about living and thriving with mental health issues in the demanding (but beautiful) world of classical ballet. She loves books, babies, sunsets over Manhattan, tea of any kind, vintage dresses, museums, the Lord, cooking, her family, music made before she was born, giving gifts, and football. blackswandiaries.com @theblackswandiaries Sherlock Season 3 Episode 3 "His Last Vow" This is the episode where you see Sherlock's mind palace: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTXh0IOKitc Be Impactful is presented by Impact Fashion, your destination for all things size inclusive modest fashion.

I should have been crying. The music was telling me that’s what I ought to be doing. And I cry at commercials so it is not usually hard to push the tears button in an emotional moment on a TV show. But I was not crying. I was flailing my arms in fury. My boyfriend looked at me and asked, “What?” I explained that I needed a minute to deal with my rage. It didn’t take him long to work out what had made me so mad. It was (WARNING: SPOILERS for Sherlock Season 4 Episode 1 ahead) not just that they’d killed off one of the only complex female characters in the show to forward the story of the two male leads (a trope that happens so often that it has a name. It’s apparently known as fridging.) It was that in her dying moments she said to her husband, John Watson, “You were my whole world. Being Mary Watson was the only life worth living.” To read more of The Sherlock Fridging go to Songs for the Struggling Artist blog.
