The life of a stunt performer is both exhilarating and dangerous, spectacular yet physically and mentally demanding. Stunt performers put their lives on the line every day for our viewing pleasure, yet are seemingly ostracised from the film world, especially in Hollywood where there is still no Academy Award for their service to the industry. Since this podcast was launched in 2016, I have had the pleasure of speaking to many of the leading voices in the stunt world, from stunt doubles and performers to fight trainers who work with huge movie stars to make them look awesome for the big screen, and stunt coordinators whose job it is to keep everybody safe. This week we have a special guest host, Adam, of the soon to be released, Deep Cuts Matinee podcast. Be sure to follow Slashers for more updates as we will be happily sharing our friends' work. Based on the game of the same name... well not exactly, because the game is also called Biohazard... oh and virtually nothing from the game makes it into the movie... Well, based on one of the titles for the game, we are reviewing Resident Evil (2002). As we have through the entire "Button Smashers" month of June, we talk not only about the film, but the underlying game franchise as well. For instance, did you know that George A. Romero directed a Japanese commercial for Biohazard 2? Of all the films we have done this month, Resident Evil's film and game franchises are the most expansive. Hell, we even talk the novelization of this film, which is completely unnecessary. The film was written and directed by, Paul W.S. Anderson, who penned all of the films in the franchise, including: Apocalypse (2004), Resident Evil: Extinction (2007), Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010), Resident Evil: Retribution (2012), and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016). You may recall his name as the director of the film we reviewed in our pilot episode, Event Horizon, and last week's episode, Mortal Kombat. The soundtrack features an interesting collaboration with Marco Beltrami and Marilyn Manson. Beltrami did tons of movies in this era like Scream, The Faculty, Underworld Evolution, and Mimic, but went on to work on films like Logan and A Quiet Place. Milla Jovovich (The Fifth Element, Hellboy, and the upcoming Monster Hunter) plays Alice. Fun fact: she later went on to become Mrs. Paul W.S. Anderson. Michelle Rodriguez of Fast and the Furious fame, is in this film. She later went on to appear in the tragically terrible Bloodrayne. Did you know she was arrested for assault the year Resident Evil came out? I did. I just forgot to mention it on the show. Eric Mabius found his way into the film after skulking through The Crow: Salvation. Years before appearing in Alien vs. Predator, Colin Salmon, appeared in this film. We talk about Sam Raimi working on Dr. Strange and how he'd already foreshadowed the character before when dealing with Spider-man. Edgar Wright's next-next film based on an upcoming book, Rian Johnsons non-space movies, and the why and how Chris Farley was cast as Shrek before his death. Ryan also looks into why some films have certain scenes that only appear in random cuts after an extra scene is reported to appear in a Harry Potter film no one hardly remembers ever seeing. We also spend a lot of time pondering the world of the stunt performers and how if no one values them enough in the public spotlight after the outcome of Olivia Jackson's lawsuit after her near-fatal accident on the set of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. We are FINALLY back and we're back for GOOD. We've got tons of movies and a bit of an announcement that will make sure that you get a show week after week as we've been doing for so long and have fallen a little lax on as of late. But we've got a HUGE show this week with reviews of John Wick Chapter 2, The Lego Batman Movie and Resident Evil The Final Chapter.  

Christian and Ian find themselves somewhere between a sequel and a reboot.  For this episode we are still drowning in new movies to talk about so we double dip again on new releases. The first movie we review is the supposed capstone to a long running zombie franchise, RESIDENT EVIL: THE FINAL CHAPTER, and we discuss whether or not it is a satisfying conclusion. For our middle segment, we bring up a film from last year that is now available on VOD in hopes that more people will check out The Love Witch. Finally, the other 2017 horror sequel for us to discuss is part 3 of the long dormant Ring series, RINGS.
