A Top 5 inspired by last weeks has us really in the weeds of songs vs jingles.

Although perhaps best known for her work as a sports tv presenter, Alexandra has over 15 years of experience as a yoga, meditation and mindset teacher. After a rather innocuous fall, resulting in a broken spine, 3 prolapsed discs and a dislocated pelvis, doctors discovered she had a severe degenerative disc disease and was told she would never be able to do any form of high impact or heavy load exercise again. So she focussed instead on yoga, meditation and her mindset. Within a few months it became apparent that the benefits she gained from practising yoga would not just be physical, but mental. Within 6 months, Alex was stronger physically and mentally than ever before. While she now still endures pain, it is manageable, predominantly, she feels, as a result of having a new positive relationship with her body. She went on to train as a teacher in India and has since travelled the world teaching yoga in some wonderful places. She has also written and created 6 top selling beginners yoga dvds, and reached #1 on the Amazon UK yoga charts. Alex is also a qualified Integrative Psychotherapist and combines her love and knowledge of the holistic world with psychotherapy. She created the Mindset Group Ltd and runs a yearly, very popular wellbeing festival in Wokingham as well as many other wellbeing events (www.mindsetunlimited.co.uk). Alexandra's 3 mindset messages: Contentment is your baseline... it's clutter that's blocking it Your past is a teacher, not a master Self awareness and knowledge is power. Food "Maybe something I wouldn't often have... Flavours... Colours... Maybe Thai or Asian?" Alexandra responded. I absolutely love cooking Asian food, so after a little research to get inspiration, I decided to cook Thai green coconut curry with salmon. The fish delivery arrived on the morning of filming, so it was beautiful and fresh. I used as many greens as I could to make this curry vibrant with colours and flavours. I was pleased to hear that Alexandra would attempt to cook this dish when she is visiting her relative in Asia a few weeks later. It turned out delicious! Sometimes, simplicity is the key to a beautiful dish. Please visit www.mindsetkitchen.co.uk for full guest and recipe details.

Legendary TV Director and High Point University Broadcaster in Residence Joe Michaels, former Director of NBC's Today Show, discusses his career in sports for NBC, at the highest level, including The Olympic Games. Hosted by High Point University Professor Jim Scott of the Nido R. Qubein School of Communication.
How do you reinvent yourself when you've already reached the top of one field? It's a question many of us face as long careers, industry disruptions, or even boredom push us to rethink our path.In the latest episode of the How to Live podcast, I sit down with the legendary sports broadcaster John Dykes, who shares his powerful and deeply personal story of stepping out of the broadcast spotlight and into corporate boardrooms. For years, John was the trusted face of the Premier League, someone we all tuned in to see. But even before the broadcast industry in Southeast Asia faced disruption, John found himself questioning the purpose and relevance of what he was doing. After decades spent in Sports TV listening to the legends and unpicking their strategies, he began questioning his next move - convinced he wanted to inform, educate and entertain. He spent two years exploring where he could still make an impact within the sports world—experiencing both triumphs and doubts. But a friend's remark changed everything: "John, you're more than just an entertaining dinner speech." Brutal, but it struck a chord.Through various explorations, John realised his core skills—communication, crisis management, leadership lessons from the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, David Beckham, and the Williams Sisters—were just as relevant in the corporate world. The stage may have shifted, but the principles remained the same. With a natural gift for storytelling, John began helping corporate leaders, from investment bankers to senior executives, communicate powerfully, make strategic decisions, and even recruit with insights from football's greatest. Yet, it wasn't all smooth sailing. He had to learn the ropes of commercialising his services, setting the right pricing, and designing programs from scratch. What struck me most about John's journey wasn't just his skillset—it was his mindset. Despite being at the peak of his career and a familiar face to millions, John approached this transition with humility, curiosity, and quiet determination. He was open to learning, adapting, and evolving. Many of us are at a point where reinvention is necessary but scary. John's story shows that reinvention is not only possible—it can be inspiring, even at the top of your game.If you're looking to evolve and grow to the next stage of your career, this episode is for you.Episode Shownoteshttps://howtolive.life/episode/076-re-inventing-from-broadcast-to-boardroomsRelated Episode#030 Re-inventing yourself with Sarah LalSpotify: https://howtolive.life/ep30spotifyApple Podcasts: https://howtolive.life/ep30appleConnect with Johnhttps://www.johndykes.co/Leave us a messagehttps://howtolive.life/contactAbout Sharad Lalhttps://www.sharadlal.net/Follow usLinkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sharadlal24/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/PodcastHowtolive/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/podcasthowtolive/

If you're a college football fan here's something you already know: the 2024 NCAA College Football season kicked off this past weekend! The college football season goes from now until the end of the regular season on Dec. 14, with the national championship game slated to be played in late January. And Michael Azevedo's guest on this episode of Making Media Now is 6-time Emmy winning live sports producer and director Jerry Weinstein (aka Dubber or JDub), the president and CEO of JDUB Productions, will be deploying a small army of TV production crews throughout the land to cover every acrobatic catch, crushing sack, and hard-fought touchdown! JDUB Productions has been packaging—and we discuss fully what exactly packaging entails—since 1998 for clients such as ESPN, CBS, ABC, and Fox Sports. They currently produce more than 180 live events annually. In addition to heading up all those broadcasting efforts, Dubber is also the Director for the NBA's LA Lakers. Dubber spoke to meet from his home in Manhattan Beach, CA. We discussed a whole range of live sports production issues and even managed to sneak a discussion of the upcoming NFL season. Making Media Now is sponsored by Filmmakers Collaborative, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting media makers from across the creative spectrum. From providing fiscal sponsorship to presenting an array of informative and educational programs, Filmmakers Collaborative supports creatives at every step in their journey.
