Twenty miles east of Lake Tahoe, high up in the Virginia Range at 6,500 feet elevation is one of the best preserved Old West towns in America, Virginia City. Known to locals as VC, in the 1860s, it was once the richest city in the world, home to the Comstock Lode, one of the largest silver strikes in history. In fact, the gold and silver from VC in the 1860s built all of San Francisco. Stark Future, a Spanish motor vehicle manufacturer with Swedish roots, launched in 2020, began sales and production in 2023 and reported in 2024 that it expected to eventually reach an annual revenue of more than $93 million.However, Stark's latest development did not involve the electric Stark Varg, the company's flagship electric motocross bike. Instead, Stark revealed the Klinga Sabre, a sword manufactured with 3D-printed titanium.Brand Communications Director Benjamin Cobb told IEN that the Klinga Sabre's design process involved blending 3D printing technology, the form language of the Stark Varg and a sculpture of a moose, which functions as a bottle opener.

"All of your guys were around when four-strokes came out," said the AMA's Mike Burkeen in Thursday night's AMA Arenacross press conference. "The rules were made and it turns out they weren't very good. They basically killed off the two-strokes. Once it happened we couldn't put the genie back in the bottle. With the electric bikes we didn't want to go full-bore and then just cut it off if we find out it doesn't work. Because everyone has made purchasing decisions already, then we'll have all these guys that they bought under what they would say were bad pretenses. So we want to walk before we run, but we definitely want to run. What that looks like? Nobody knows?" Arenacross can serve as the testing ground to see where electric could fit, so a new stand-alone class for Stark Varg electric bikes has will fit into the Arenacross structure for 2024-2025. We grabbed Seb in his busy schedule for a catch-up during the Arenacross UK tour and dived straight into the thick of it to look back on Tortelli's MX career and find out more about his new role at Stark Future. Tortelli looks back fondly on how it all started for him on his parents' farm in the south of France and how he was driven to be win from a young age. He also speaks affectionally about the French MX Federation and his mentor, Jacky Vimond. The conversation leads on to those epic battles in MXGP motocross in the 125cc class with the likes of Paul Malin before the heady days of the titanic battles he had in the 250cc class and with Stefan Everts for the 1998 world title. Of course, we couldn't let him leave the sofa without talking about his time racing in America and his incredible debut in AMA Supercross, winning in L.A Coliseum and lapping most of the established American stars in the rain. He also opens up on some regrets and why his time in America didn't go as well as he would've liked and how he was close to walking away from the sport until a call out of the blue saw him ending up being Start Future's race director. The bike is called the Stark Varg, which is Swedish for “Strong Wolf”. Stark is planning on making other types of motorcycles, but they dove head-first into motocross, because it's the most demanding in terms of engineering and handling. Stark is one of the frontrunners in the space right now. Zero had a motocross-ish bike at their beginning, Alta motors tried and failed, Cake has off-road bikes but they're hardly motocross-ready, Sur-Ron is planning a full-size e-moto, and KTM is the only one of the established motocross brands that has an electric motocross bike on the market with the Freeride EX-C. Other major brands are working on it, we've seen some amazing prototypes out there, but they aren't in production. Stark is just starting production on the Varg, it will start delivering later in 2022. We can't wait to try one, and I think there's some serious interest at our sister magazines, Motocross Action and Dirt Bike.
