G'day Folks, On tonight's show Andy & Ethan join me to discuss what's been happening here and around the world over the last month. Namely the Referendum here in Australia and the Israel/Palestine conflict. We discuss the lead up to the vote where the propaganda campaign from the Yes promoters was relentless and well funded. Referendum day Saturday October 14th came and went and so did the hopes of the Yes voters with the No vote winning an approximate 60% overall.  We dive in to what it means for us Australians now especially in light of the States intentions to plough ahead with their own versions of The Voice to Parliament. A Voice to State Parliament perhaps?  We also go over Ethan's latest piece on the Referendum result and how it can be potentially weaponised against the Australian people. Never let a good crisis go to waste you might say. The tabled Communications Legislation Amendment (Combatting Misinformation & Disinformation) Bill will likely use the election result to say that the Voice lost due to online misinformation as the talking heads are already parroting this very sentiment.  We switch gears and focus our attention on the middle-east conflict between Israel and Palestine. The first victim of this war being the truth. Talk about misinformation and disinformation or basically downright fear and atrocity propaganda to the public siding with Israel. But is this newest conflict by design? If so, by who and to what end? Could this simply be modus operandi by Israel for yet another encroaching land grab? Bi-partisan legislation The adoption of Biden's defense budget Shelanda Young and her role in the negotiations Republicans trying to take credit for things in the deal. Putting off the debit ceiling until after Biden's presidency. How the democrat president always comes out on top. Will there be inner party friction on the Republican's side due to some not getting everything they wanted? The inner friction that is already happening on the Republican's side. What is the price of peace? Can there be peace? How McKarthy was voted in. The most connected thing legislatively to this issue. Why appropriation bills haven't gone across the floor in the Senate. He has spent this time turning his vision for data and digital enablement into reality across a large number of ministries and government agencies. Passionately questioning the “unjustified” need for such a pursuit, especially given the high cost it presents to taxpayers, Quentin criticises the Victorian government on several fronts, adding his analysis on the State Parliament's ongoing obsession with underquoting. Lawyer: WA keeping prisoners locked up violates human rights

The High Court is set to rule on the validity of laws in WA allowing the State to indefinitely detain “high risk” offenders. The High Risk Serious Offenders legislation, introduced by the McGowan Government and passed through State Parliament in 2020, targets offenders who are deemed likely to pose an unacceptable risk to the community. It hands judges the power to order the continuing detention or community supervision of violent offenders who are nearing their release date. But it's met with criticism, and there are concerns this could disproportionately impact Indigenous prisoners. It's been brought back into the spotlight because of the case of Noongar man Peter Robert Garlett, who is challenging WA's High Risk Serious Offenders legislation after being detained beyond his prison sentence for aggravated robbery. Why is this seen as a problem?  Joining the show to explain is human rights lawyer Dr Hannah McGlade.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

With special guest: Andrew Tink AM… in conversation with Bill Kable and Ken Thompson No book on Australia covering the early years of the twentieth century could overlook the 61,500 of our men killed or listed as “missing” in World War 1. Another 156,000 had a fate that was sometimes worse, they were wounded, gassed or taken prisoner. In his book Australia 1901-2001: A narrative history, Andrew Tink, former Member of State Parliament, tells us that like the school children of Villers-Bretonneux France we must never forget the heroism of our soldiers, the diggers of World War 1.
