This episode was originally released on June 11, 2018. Her doctor categorized her as overweight when she was 5 years old. Her grandmother always introduced her as the “chubby one.” As an adult, she vacillates between moderation and binge-eating, restricting food some weeks, and gorging on cake and ice cream during others. “It's only when my pants are nearly impossible to button that I force myself to lose weight,” writes the letter-writer who calls herself Body Negative. “And then the pattern starts all over again.” The sinister cycle of dieting and binge-eating plagues many American women. The body positivity movement promotes fat acceptance and attempts to reverse body-shaming, no matter one's size. But Body Negative is skeptical, writing, “I struggle with how to be body positive after years of being told it's wrong to be my size and weight. Is there such a thing as unconditional body acceptance?” Hilary Kinavey, M.S., L.P.C., and Dana Sturtevant, M.S., R.D., the co-owners of Be Nourished, join the Sugars to offer Body Negative and women like her some hope. Ms. Kinavey and Ms. Sturtevant present new definitions of health and discuss alternatives to the “dieting mind.” Ms. Kinavey explains that before body acceptance is achievable, “most of us who have experienced a lot of body shame … and weight stigma have healing work to do.”

Victoria Sturtevant's It's All in the Delivery: Pregnancy in American Film and Television Comedy (University of Texas Press, 2024) is about how changing depictions of pregnancy in comedy from the start of the twentieth century to the present show an evolution in attitudes toward women's reproductive roles and rights. Some of the most groundbreaking moments in American film and TV comedy have centered on pregnancy, from Lucille Ball's real-life pregnancy on I Love Lucy, to the abortion plot on Maude; Murphy Brown's controversial single motherhood; Arnold Schwarzenegger's pregnancy in Junior; or the third-trimester stand-up special Ali Wong: Baby Cobra. In the first book-length study of pregnancy in popular comedy, Victoria Sturtevant examines the slow evolution of pregnancy tropes during the years of the Production Code; the sexual revolution and changing norms around nonmarital pregnancy in the 1960s and ‘70s; and the emphasis on biological clocks, infertility, adoption, and abortion from the 1980s to now. Across this history, popular media have offered polite evasions and sentimentality instead of real candor about the physical and social complexities of pregnancy. But comedy has often led the way in puncturing these clichés, pointing an irreverent and satiric lens at the messy and sometimes absurd work of gestation. Ultimately, Sturtevant argues that comedy can reveal the distortions and lies that treat pregnancy as simple and natural “women's work,” misrepresentations that rest at the heart of contemporary attacks on reproductive rights in the US. With each passing year, advocates of the LGBTQ- agenda are more vocal and more aggressive in advancing their cause while denouncing those who object. As has been his custom, President Biden issued a proclamation on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex Pride Month. His proclamation stated, -Advancing equality for the LGBTQI- community is a top priority.---Is this the last word because churches are becoming more accepting, because -drag queens- are allowed to read stories to children, because world governments, or specifically, a U.S. administration, makes it a -top priority--- Instead, what we should be asking is- What does the Bible say----Joining Crosstalk to answer that question was Pastor Rick Rogers of Calvary Baptist Church in Sturtevant, Wisconsin. He's a chaplain for law enforcement, is a former director of the Alpha Women's Center and also previously served on the Board of Baptists for Life of Wisconsin.--Pastor Rogers began by noting how God has ordained 3 institutions- The family -Genesis 1-, human governments -Genesis 9- and the Church of Jesus Christ. These were ordained for godliness, law and order. This is where Satan has been attacking the hardest. Pastor Rogers noted that if you dismantle those three, you've dismantled the foundation of the calling we have from the Lord. In other words, it's a war against the natural order.--What about those who believe this is a genetic issue-- If that's the case, how can God condemn it-- Pastor Rogers communicated that there are some things in genetics you just can't prove and this is one of them. We see this by the fact that no -gay gene- has been found.

Instead, what we should be asking is: What does the Bible say?Joining Crosstalk to answer that question was Pastor Rick Rogers of Calvary Baptist Church in Sturtevant, Wisconsin. He's a chaplain for law enforcement, is a former director of the Alpha Women's Center and also previously served on the Board of Baptists for Life of Wisconsin.Pastor Rogers began by noting how God has ordained 3 institutions: The family (Genesis 1), human governments (Genesis 9) and the Church of Jesus Christ. These were ordained for godliness, law and order. This is where Satan has been attacking the hardest. Pastor Rogers noted that if you dismantle those three, you've dismantled the foundation of the calling we have from the Lord. In other words, it's a war against the natural order. What about those who believe this is a genetic issue? If that's the case, how can God condemn it? Pastor Rogers communicated that there are some things in genetics you just can't prove and this is one of them. We see this by the fact that no "gay gene" has been found.

The post Appropriationnisme partie 1 – Elaine Sturtevant, anatomie du crime parfait first appeared on Amicus Radio.

For most of his adult life, Mathew Sturtevant found himself so paralyzed with anxiety and fear that it limited him in almost everything he did. In search of a cure, he decided to face the dragon head on using ways that he knew would challenge him the most, a cross country motorcycle ride following the Trans America Trail where he would face remoteness, extreme weather, high altitudes and difficult riding conditions. His hopes were that by facing his fears using his motorcycle that he would gain his life and freedom back. For this adventure he enlisted two friends to go along with him and the plan was that he would document the trip and his transformation. Except it didn't go as planned, he found himself unable to face his fears, unable to shake the anxiety and unable to be honest with his friends that had committed so much for this adventure.
