Ep #273: Equal Pay Day 2025: How Powerful Women Negotiate Their Pay (And Win)You're doing incredible work. You're hitting it out of the park. Your company says they value you - but your paycheck tells a different story. Or maybe you've been telling yourself that the money doesn't matter that much… as long as you're not traveling all the time, or working exhausting hours, or drowning in stress. But deep down, you know better. You do care about the money. And you know you deserve it. In honor of Equal Pay Day 2025, I'm cutting through the noise and giving you two things to help you get the pay you already deserve: 1. Simple, doable strategies to negotiate for - and get - a higher salary, and 2. The mindset shift you need to become the kind of leader who commands both money and influence, without working harder or burning yourself out. In this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer, I'll walk you through real-life examples from women I've coached to double their salaries, land C-suite roles, and finally feel valued for the brilliant, badass leaders they already are. Plus, I'll show you exactly how to advocate for yourself with simple, direct asks, how to build influence across your org while gunning for a promotion, and why having both money and a career you love isn't just possible - it's your birthright.Unlock the missing piece in your leadership development. LinkedIn Sales Navigator is a handy tool to help you find prospects, but if you're not using it right, you won't be able to target the ones who have the say in closing a deal. How can you learn to use it to get in touch with C-suite executives? Find out in this episode with my guests Mike and John Murphy, the father-and-son duo of Text Tonality, and learn their three-step strategy for using LinkedIn. Where Did Their Passion for LinkedIn Come From? After struggling to find new clients, John turned to his son Mike for help. Mike had a unique strategy that helped his father find high-stakes clients in no time. Thanks to Mike's method, he and his father are now the proud owners of Text Tonality. Understanding What Filters Are When you first use LinkedIn Sales Navigator, you'll notice the many different filters within the tool. Mike noticed that people usually use the filters incorrectly in two different ways: either using too many or not enough filters. There are a certain number of filters you can use to help you find the right clients. If you DM Mike, he gives you the code to his free training to help you learn this trick. What To Say to C-Suite Executives When You Find Them John shares that to get your message out correctly, you first have to position yourself in front of them. They have to see how you can help them with their problem. If you can't get them to see this, then they're not going to spend 30 minutes on the phone with you. Start with the big problem they have to intrigue them with a solution. Sending LinkedIn Messages Without Spamming John and Mike share that it's best not to send messages within LinkedIn connections. They share how sending Text Tonality messages works better after waiting a day after sending a connection request. Mike also shares how probing can help get prospects to speak to you more after they say no thank you to your first message. If you're struggling with LinkedIn Sales Navigator, consider working with John and Mike at Text Tonality to learn more of their secrets. “Don't be afraid to follow up. People won't get mad at you. They don't mind as long as you do it right." - John Murphy. "You want to think about how there is an element of numbers to this. A key performance indicator that we look for is a 25% acceptance rate, which means I'm targeting the right people and my profile is resonating." - Mike Murphy. Do you know what to say to someone with chronic illness? How can those close to you know what to say when you're not feeling well? Start by telling them the kinds of things you'd like to hear. For instance, that they love you no matter what. Maybe you'd like to have them pick up something when they're already at the store, or have them deliver your favorite dish the next time they make it. They won't know what you need if you don't tell them. (You could forward this list and give them some ideas.)Sometimes people with a chronic illness already feel like a burden so asking for help is uncomfortable, but if someone asks what you'd like them to do for you, don't be afraid to tell them. If you do feel uncomfortable asking for help, let them know that too. You might find that some people say, “just let me know if you need something,” but don't ever follow through with doing it. I have had some experiences where people have said that to be nice but didn't follow through. Just remember, they do mean it when they say it, some people just aren't great at doing things for others. If you ask for help and haven't gotten any by the second or third try, move on and ask someone else. Another good idea is to find another friend or friends with chronic health issues, that way you can help each other out. When you're feeling better bring her the extra batch of dinner you cooked up, when she's feeling better she picks things up at the store and brings them to you. A little teamwork goes a long way. Not only are you feeling better yourself by doing something positive for someone else, but you've got guilt-free help when you really need it. Don't have friends with similar issues? Emily McDowell Quits Her Job & Identity: An Update EpisodeThis week, we're talking about the big thing Emily couldn't talk about until now: in April, Em & Friends—the brand she founded and infused with her name, personality and life experience—was acquired, and Emily didn't go with it. What did it feel like to, finger-by-finger, let go of the future she thought she'd have? WTF is she gonna do now? We get into it all. Big themes include the idea of comfort vs. growth; the feeling of knowing it's time to go, but deciding to hold on anyway because the unknown is terrifying and security is seductive; and the things we believe keep us safe. The intro ends, and the episode begins, at 00:10:45.About Emily McDowell: Emily is a writer, illustrator, keynote speaker, teacher, and entrepreneur who is fiercely committed to not doing all of those things at the same time. She's best-known as founder of the stationery brand Em & Friends (formerly Emily McDowell Studio), which makes cards and gifts for the relationships people really have. She also co-authored and illustrated the book There Is No Good Card For This: What To Say and Do When Life Gets Scary, Awful, and Unfair To People You Love; and she's the co-host of this podcast. The Emily Episode: Who is Quitted co-host Emily McDowell, how did she get here, and why does she want to talk about quitting stuff? This week, Emily shares the real story behind building a successful brand named after herself and based on her personality, and then, the painful reality of letting go of a dream, and an identity, in order to save both her company and herself. Holly and Emily cover a lot of ground in this hour, including the spiritual implications of “personal brand;” why bigger isn't always better; the pain we carry from not honoring endings; the loneliness that comes with responsibility; how quitting requires defying logic; and how it was possible for Emily, whose work was all about promoting empathy and healing, to have had so little empathy for herself. About Emily McDowell: Emily is a writer, illustrator, speaker, teacher, and entrepreneur who is fiercely committed to not doing all of those things at the same time. She's best-known as founder of the stationery brand Em & Friends (formerly Emily McDowell Studio), which makes cards and gifts for the relationships people really have. We want them to have access to a thorough, fulfilling schooling so that they'll have a bright future! However, today's school system often fails to meet our expectations. Teens are shuffled through a long day of sitting in a classroom, doing what they're told, with almost no personal connection to what they're learning. No wonder so many of them are falling behind or finding themselves woefully unprepared for college!Although it may seem like there's no way to combat this problem, our guest today thinks otherwise. The trick, she believes, is to flip the script and put teens behind the driver's seat of their own education. If we're encouraging kids to push themselves forward instead of constantly forcing them to budge, we might actually see them make some real progress! It won't be easy, but it will be well worth it.This week, we're talking with someone who's putting in work everyday to revolutionize education. Diane Tavenner is the co-founder and CEO of Summit Public Schools, a nationally recognized system of charter schools that has been praised across the board–including being ranked in American News and World Report as some of the best high schools in the United States! She's here to talk about some key ideas from her book, Prepared: What Kids Need for a Fulfilled Life. In the episode, Diane and I are telling you how you can help your teen take charge of their own education, and figure out what they want to do with their life! Plus, we're shelling out quick and easy mindfulness practices that you and your teen can both practice on an everyday basis to boost motivation...Click for full show notes, exercises, and parenting scripts from this episode

In this episode, hosted by FasterSkier contributor Rachel Perkins, we dive into the issue of Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S). This condition was formerly known as the female athlete triad, which was described as inadequate energy intake, the loss of menstruation (amenorrhea), and decreased bone mineral density. The name was changed to include males, who are also affected, and to expand beyond the three symptoms originally included. Though not quite the same, the condition is closely linked with eating disorders. This topic has seen a lot of buzz following a November opinion piece in the New York Times where former high school running phenom Mary Cain shared her story of abuse by her coach, Alberto Salazar, at the Nike Oregon Project. While trying to get down to the weight he deemed optimal for her, she lost her period, her performance decreased, and she was littered with stress fractures.Further concerns arose a few weeks later when Ingvild Flugstad Oestberg and Frida Karlsson were pulled from their World Cup starts after not meeting team health standards for BMI and bone density, presumably due to under eating. We speak with licensed professional counselor and two-time Olympian Holly Brooks, registered sports dietician and author of “Finding Your Sweet Spot: How to Avoid RED-S (Relative Energy Deficit in Sport) by Optimizing Your Energy Balance” Rebecca McConville, and long-time coach turned voice of World Cup cross country skiing and biathlon, Chad Salmela. This panel unpacks the misunderstanding that RED-S is an exclusively female phenomenon and how the climate in sport influences the prevalence of this condition, and offers suggestions to shift from a results focused climate in sport to a positive, informed, healthy, and athlete centric program. Learning To Influence Don't be a JERK! 1 Peter 2:12 (ESV) // Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation. Philemon 1:4-6 (NIV) // 4 I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers, 5 because I hear about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints. 6 I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ. Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV) // 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” The action is to GO. Don't RUN from darkness, SHINE in that darkness! Why don't we share our faith? 1. We don't feel like we know ENOUGH. Share – Lives – Understanding – Outward 2. We don't know WHAT TO SAY. Luke 12:11-12 // “When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, 12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.” 3. We simply don't CARE. Matthew 9:35-38 (NIV) // Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 28 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Followers of Christ view life through the LENS OF ETERNITY.

How would you like to know the 4 DEAL-KILLING WORDS that are destroying your real estate investments every time you speak them? I’ve got the phrase to avoid in today’s episode. I’m Carole Ellis. This is Episode 75. So, wouldn’t you want someone to TELL YOU if you were saying a certain four words that were identified, by experts in the field, as the MOST LIKELY to derail your real estate investing and your deals? Because I’ve got some good news and some bad news here. The bad news is they’re almost certainly part of your daily lexicon. The good news is, I’m about to tell you what they are. Before I do, however, I’ve got five GREAT words that you’re really going to love to share with you. Are you ready? Count em’: Free money from the government. And as a tag on the end, I’m going to make it an even 10: Free money from the government for your real estate investing. That’s right: we’ve got the inside scoop on how to get free grant money from the federal, state, and local government, for your real estate deals. Check out all the details in this free training, which tells you everything from exactly WHAT TO SAY to land loans you never have to pay back to where to look to find a literally treasure trove of funding for your real estate business, your kids’ college, and just about any other entrepreneurial dream you’ve ever had. It’s incredible, and you can view that exclusive REI Today training right now at www.rei.today/freemoney (one word, and easy to remember!). That’s www.rei.today/freemoney. Please do not pass up the opportunity to view this limited-time training. It’s incredible. Now, back to those four deal-killing words. Here’s, well, the deal: According to Travis Bradberry, a Forbes contributor who specializes in the mental functions that contribute to failure, among other things, saying a certain four words can actually derail just about any project, including massively profitable deals. In a recently published book on the topic, Bradberry noted that the words “I don’t like it” are some of the most detrimental to progress because they lead to PROCRASTINATION in a significant, meaningful way. Bradberry compared the issue to eating dessert before your vegetables. If you always allow yourself to put off eating your vegetables, you’ll probably never eat any, even though you KNOW that kale is better for you than ice cream. When it comes to your real estate investing, you KNOW that even the part of the deal you hate the most, whether it’s talking to sellers, running the numbers, finalizing due diligence, or filling out contracts, is ultimately GOOD for you and your bottom line. However, the more you tell yourself that you don’t like doing it, the more likely you are to put it off. The longer it is put off, the more likely it is that you’ll either do the task poorly or leave it too late and not do it at all. And then instead of a done deal on your hands you have a huge missed opportunity. So here’s a tip from Travis himself (and I think it’s a great one): Make it a rule that you cannot touch any other project or task until you’ve finished the quote “dreaded one,” he said, adding, “In this way, you are policing yourself by forcing yourself to eat your veggies before you can have dessert.” I challenge you to do this for just one week and see how it affects your business and your life in general. Putting things off isn’t just bad for your bottom line, it’s bad for your health.
