Picking up where we left off last time: The Tempests recruited the assistance of the pirate known as Suave to help them in taking down the infamous pirate, Shirahama. Brick, Kasumi, and Suave attempted to find out if the mink or the medallion were located in Shirahama's residence in High Tide, but were unsuccessful. They were successful in gaining a tail however. The tailing men's intentions were never discovered as Vanera beat one's nose in with a door with a clever use of Thaumaturgy. After losing their tail, the party decided to visit Yo'HoBold and managed to sneak Pez into investigating Shirahama's ship as “free labor” after Yo'HoBold's services had been requested to fix Shirahama's ship, which had supposedly been in a battle out at sea. Pez tried his best to sabotage her ship, but was met with a very distrustful Owlin known as, The Watchman. Shortly after, the Tempests decided to stop pussyfooting around and set up an ambush for the Takatari pirate. Brick cleverly portrayed himself as the property of Zaan and was almost sold to Shirahama. Using his “Middle Finger” gun in an attempt to assassinate Shirahama, a fight broke out. During which, Vanera reclaimed her mink Khione, Zaan managed to lodge a chest of gold into the chest cavity of a goblin, and Brick was clearly losing an underwater boxing match with a Giff named Reggie until the others intervened. At long last, Zaan dealt the final blow to the Takatari pirate, driving his blade deep into her skull and riding her corpse into the shallows of the bay. The Watchman fled and the Giff was eventually slain. Time seemed to slow, the water being held back by Zaan began rushing inward but now stood like a solid wall. A brief moment of darkness took over their vision as their consciousnesses were whisked far away back to the land of sand, heat, and desolation.. Deep into the mines of Drybell where an Illithid had prepared a ‘fungeon' for the Tempests to enjoy. Shenanigans were had, loot was collected, and a battle against some strong Golems took place wherein the creations attacked even their creator. A bit flustered after another brush with death by the hands of his own creations, Qhip released the Tempest's minds and sent them back to their bodies where barely a breath had passed. Finally breaking free from the shackles of an endlessly repeated conversation on black metal pornography, your hosts return with an episode of lower-tempo extreme metal from two very different parts of the scene. Featuring a returning fan submission and a record from a style we rarely cover, this episode is a deep cut for those who want to expand their listening habits into uncharted territory. Or maybe charted territory but not usually by us. First up is the return of Thaumaturgy, doom-ridden black/death solo project out of Kansas which presents its debut full length. Thaumaturgy's style exists in a realm influenced heavily by both caverncore and orthodox black metal. On this record, however, a decision is made to pursue death metal more fully by way of the Ledney school of Profanatica, Havohej, Prosanctus Inferi, etc., but delivered in a stately and austere manner. Angular riffs spill out over long sections of tremolo and blast wall, periodically collapsing into heaving doom. How does it stack up against the project's debut, reviewed in 2021? We discuss. Following is Iron Walrus with their fourth full length record of Crowbar-inspired sludge metal. Taking a path less travelled in the style, Iron Walrus concentrates on a combination of elaborate heavy metal riffing combined with brute hardcore force, making for a record with a wide range of emotional and sonic territory. This is the antidote for the stoner scourge in the genre; we don't cover sludge very often, and you may not listen to it typically, but trust us- this one is worth a look. 0:00:00 - Intro 0:04:20 - Thaumaturgy - Tenebrous Oblations (Adirondack Black Mass) 0:56:39 - Interlude - Havohej - “Weeping in Heaven” fr. Ann O'Delia Diss Debar was a medium and a fortune teller who was once described by the famous performer Harry Houdini as, quote, “one of the most extraordinary fake mediums and mystery swindlers the world has ever known.” She made her name -- well, her many names -- as a spiritualist with occult powers, but she was 100 percent fraud. And from 1870 to 1910, she bilked people for millions of dollars around the world.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's double episode day, boys! In addition to a sprawling interview with Lori Bravo of Nuclear Death is your regularly scheduled session of extreme metal discussion. This episode features four records with numerous crossing threads which will be familiar to regular listeners- the resurgence of cavernous black/death metal, the atavistic urges of primordial extreme metal, and the concept of songwriting sprawl vs. clearer organization. As usual we pride ourselves on our lack of approachability, and today's records will undoubtedly satisfy the tastes of anyone who wants their metal weird and monolithic. Starting the session is the new EP by Denmark's Broder, a barbaric attack of primitive black/death metal from the Korpsand Circle. Broder resembles many things around the edges- war metal, Celtic Frost, primitive deathrash- but finds its own identity in its abstraction. This is a short record that punches far above its weight in sheer intensity and aggression, and is an absolutely essential listen for those whose favorite parts of extreme metal from when it was first slithering out of the primordial ooze. On a completely different note is Luminous Veil, who perform a thoroughly eclectic style of... symphonic post-black with breakcore elements? Its constituent parts are as diverse as possible, but they add up to a whole with a distinct vision. Joyous explosions of arcing riffs, chiming synths, and hyperspeed drum machine theatrics make for a record which will undoubtedly be divisive, but likely exactly what a few people have been looking for their whole lives. After our break comes two sides of the cavernous black/death coin. First up is Serpentrance, a Russian band who imbue the traditional sounds of Profanatica and Archgoat with a granite slab of minimal, crushing doomdeath. Other bands play; Serpentrance churns with a terrible weight and certainty which brings to mind some of the ugliest parts of modern doom and sludge. You know it's good when even the fast parts sound slow, like the band is struggling to complete a song while being waterboarded. Concluding the evening's festivities is a listener submission. Thaumaturgy also plays a cavernous style of black/death/doom metal, but coming from a radically different direction, more interested in pointelistically etching out abstract, colorful riffs like a Jackson Pollock interpretation of Onward to Golgotha. It's abstract and vertiginous music more concerned with dizzying the listener than crushing them, but when the final car on the rollercoaster starts its descent, the G-forces equal that of any better known ride. 0:00 - Intro/Terminus News feat. Today we take another walk through the woods and speak about healing spirits and deities: how we connect with them, how we experience them, and what it's like to reach out to one. We reference a few external items, so we want to add those to the show notes as well: Episode 23 of this podcast is about "Magic That Works," and it discusses the referenced fertility cheese and teething spells. Episode 48 isn't directly referenced, but it discusses the differences between Theurgy and Thaumaturgy. Rev. Theurgy! We discuss how our piety and our magical work intersect, and how the relationships we build deepen and build our work. A CALL FOR REFORM AND A BALANCED APPROACH TOWARDS THE PROPHETIC MOVEMENT AND ITS EXTRAVAGANCES BELOVED, it is ABOUT TIME WE RECOGNIZE THE INBALANCES THAT ARE CAUSING NUISANCE in THE BODY OF CHRIST. PARTICULARLY in THE CASE OF FALSE PROPHETS in THIS SEASON. THE BOOK OF JEREMIAH CHAPTER 5 VERSE 26 TO 31 SAYS. "For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men. As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich. filthy rich. They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge. Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this? . A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land. The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?". Beloved, lets examine three key points that will help identify false prophets. Point number 1. They are filthy rich. Brethren, it is common nowadays to see men that call themselves prophets, bragging about their private jets which they use to go visit corrupt leaders, which they somehow helped get elected. Any person with a sound mind should never desire to be associated with corruption but somehow these false prophets have no shame to the point whereby they brag about it. Point number 2. They deceive many. Here again we see in the Book of Lamentations chapter 2 verse 14. It says "Thy prophets have seen vain and foolish things for thee: and they have not discovered thine iniquity, to turn away thy captivity; but have seen for thee false burdens". In other words, instead of turning the people towards God through repentance, their focus in on other things that have no value, hence people are deceived and make no progress. Point number 3. They prophesy falsely. Here again we see in Jeremiah chapter 14 verse 14, it says. "Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.". HERE IS HOW THE American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Fifth Edition DEFINES "DECEPTION". 1. A MISLEADING FALSEHOOD. 2. DISSEMBLING, DISSIMULATION. 3. AN ILLUSORY FEAT CONSIDERED MAGICAL BY NAIVE OBSERVERS. 4. MAGIC TRICK. 5. THAUMATURGY. 6. ILLUSION. BELOVED, THE BIBLE WARNS us AGAINST FALSE PROPHETS. HERE IS WHAT THE BOOK OF MATHEW CHAPTER 24 VERSE 11 SAYS. "AND MANY FALSE PROPHETS SHALL RISE, AND SHALL DECEIVE MANY". IN MARK CHAPTER 14 VERSE 22. IT SAYS. "FALSE CHRISTS AND FALSE PROPHETS SHALL RISE, AND SHALL SHEW SIGN AND WONDERS, TO SEDUCE, IF IT WERE POSSIBLE, EVEN THE ELECT". Now YOU MAY BE ASKING YOURSELF, HOW ON EARTH CAN WE DISCERN BETWEEN A TRUE PROPHET versus A FALSE PROPHET? THAT IS A VERY GOOD AND IMPORTANT QUESTION. THE BIBLE SAYS THAT YOU WILL KNOW THEM BY THEIR FRUIT. ONE OF THE PROBLEMS THAT HAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE RISE OF WHAT THE BIBLE CALLS FALSE PROPHETS IS THE LACK OF KNOWLEDGE IN THE BODY OF CHRIST. THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS THAT THERE ARE CHRISTIANS THAT DO NOT READ THEIR BIBLE. MOST CIVILIZED AND PROSPEROUS NATIONS IN THE WORLD BELIEVE IN HARD WORK AND SACRIFICE TO ACHIEVE THEIR GOALS. AFRICAN NATIONS ON THE OTHER HAND ARE A DIFFERENT STORY. THEY BELIEVE IN SUPERSTITIONS AND ARE THE MOST EMPOVERISHED ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH. BESIDES SUPERSTITIONS, THEY ARE ALSO PLAGUED WITH CORRUPTION.

Show Notes Episode 222: “Uh Oh, It's Magick!” This week Host Dave Bledsoe wants you to know that tricks are something whores do for money. Or cocaine. On the show this week, we discuss how Marianne Williamson is using the forces of the occult to control our minds. (But she's doing it for LOVE!) Along the way we get to learn all about the spookily youthful looking 67 year old spiritual guru and her rise to prominence. (Thanks Oprah.) We don't learn anything about her policies or plans because there is magick and then there are miracles and it would take divine intervention for her to win. (I mean, unless it was just her and Bill DeBlasio, then we would vote for her. Out of spite.) Reality, or whatever passes for it these days, we go on a deep dive into the arcane arts of Chaos Magick and how people are using to it influence our elections. (And you thought the Russians talking to your parents on Facebook was bad!) Finally, we reveal the awesome power of the most powerful Chaos Magician in all of human history: Donald J Trump. This book contains additional paths of thaumaturgy not found in the original blood magic book. Blood Sacrifice focuses on other, non-Hermetic forms of blood sorcery. The book features the disciplines of Akhu (Setite sorcery), Dur-An-Ki (Assamite sorcery), Sadhana (Indian blood magic), and Wanga (Vodoun blood magic), and introduces the Tlacique bloodline and their Mesoamerican blood sorcery Discipline, Nahuallotl. This book was written by Dean Shomshak and Ari Marmell, and was released January 14th, 2002 by White Wolf Publishing.
Happy New Year, everyone! In this episode, we discuss the awesome, under-rated and often overlooked "Secrets of Thaumaturgy" Sourcebook from the Vampire: the Masquerade game line. In this guide, you'll find the histories, concepts and modern practices of blood magics. Often assumed to be the sole purveyance of Clan Tremere, this book sheds light on the paths practiced by other clans, as well as the dark arts of Necromancy.
Special guest Gavin Norman (author of The Complete Vivimancer and Theorems & Thaumaturgy) joins us to discuss Jack Vance‘s The Dying Earth! Jack Vance originally wrote the loosely connected stories that comprise The Dying Earth while serving in the United States Merchant Marine during World War II. Vance’s fiction had started appearing in pulp magazines as early as 1945, and The Dying Earth marked his first book publication when it was released in digest-sized paperback in 1950 by Hillman Periodicals, best known as a comic book and magazine publisher. The Dying Earth appears not to have been particularly successful at first, as it was not reprinted even as Vance’s career went on an upswing in the late 1950s & early 1960s. Hillman ceased publishing in 1961 and Lancer Books snapped up The Dying Earth, reprinting it in paperback in 1962 with a cover by the ever-versatile Ed Emshwiller depicting the denouement of the story “Ulan Dhor”. The Dying Earth did well enough that Lancer kept it in print until they went bankrupt in 1973, by which time its reputation was such that it has remained in print to this day through a series of different publishers. No doubt the continued success of The Dying Earth led Jack Vance to revisit the setting starting in the mid 1960s. These new stories that would eventually be published as The Eyes of the Overworld (1966), followed by the post-Appendix N books Cugel’s Saga (1983) and Rhialto the Marvellous (1984). Gary Gygax wrote in issue 2 of The Excellent Prismatic Spray (2001) that he first became a fan of Jack Vance after reading The Big Planet (1957) in the pulps in the early 1950s and then was “absolutely enthralled...as no work of fantasy had done for a long time” with the publication of The Eyes of the Overworld in 1966. The Dying Earth further cemented Gygax’s love of the setting. When it came time to devise a magic system for Dungeons & Dragons, Gygax felt that a “Vancian” system of memorized spells that are expended when cast and that then must be re-learned before casting again was the best way to provide flavor and balance the magic-user against other classes. The Enchanter series by L. Sprague de Camp and Fletcher Pratt would provide the situational pre-conditions for spellcasting in D&D, but these spell components were often glossed-over, as Gygax laments as early as 1976 in issue 6 of The Strategic Review, the predecessor to Dragon magazine. Oddly, D&D’s publisher TSR appears never to have tried to license the Dying Earth setting even though Gary Gygax remained a huge fan of Jack Vance and actually had significant contact with him after Dungeons & Dragons took the world by storm. The first time gamers would get to officially adventure in the Dying Earth was with the publication of Pelgrane Press’ The Dying Earth Roleplaying Game in 2001. Goodman Games has since licensed the Dying Earth setting for its Dungeon Crawl Classics Roleplaying Game, with a target release date of late 2017.
