We are officially back for our final season, and Justin starts us off by finally finishing our sporadic six-part series on the basic emotions, with a whole quiz about disgust and disgusting stuff. We also get a little queasy talking about classical music, football, and movies!2:55: Q1 (Music): What classical composer wrote numerous scatological pieces, including Leck mich im Arsch – “Lick me in the ass” – though Eine kleine Nachtmusik is performed more often these days?8:54: Q2 (Sports & Games): In one of the most disgusting and horrifying moments in sports history, Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor broke quarterback Joe Theismann's leg in two places, ending his career. What team did Theismann play for (either the current name or the name at the time is acceptable).18:06: Q3 (Times & Places): The Erfurt latrine disaster involved about 60 noblemen drowning in human excrement after King Henry VI of Germany called an assembly. Despite this, what other, more powerful title was bestowed on Henry in 1191 by Pope Celestine III?25:55: Q4 (Movies & TV): Known as much for his signature pencil mustache as for his transgressive films, what director's work includes the so-called “trash trilogy” of Pink Flamingos, Female Trouble, and Desperate Living?31:06: Q5 (Arts & Literature): What famous muckraking journalist said about his most famous (and famously gross) novel, “I aimed at the public's heart, and by accident I hit it in the stomach”?36:45: Q6 (Everything Else): What psychologist developed the theory of basic emotions and originally studied disgust, along with happiness, sadness, anger, surprise, and fear?Theme music: "Thinking it Over" by Lee Rosevere, licensed under CC BY 2.0E-Mail: quizandhers@gmail.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/quizandhers/Twitter: https://twitter.com/quizandhersInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/quizandhers/History of the Atlantic World Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/history-of-the-atlantic-world/id1363411819Brain Ladle Podcast: http://www.brainladletrivia.com/

I had some surprising results with my 37 hour fast. Listen as I walk you through my experiences with this window of not eating. I was surprised the amount of water weight that I lost, and I am intrigued by what this potentially could mean for calorie restriction. Do not misinterpret my understanding of what a fast can really do for you. Calorie restricting, in essence, is what truly equates to weight loss and body composition. However, I will be experimenting with fasting to shrink my stomach and feel fuller on feeding days. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/trevor-theismann/support

In this episode we had a lot of fun discussing the simulation theory. It has been around since the early 2000s and is a fun topic to rack your brain with. Do we live in a simulation? I feel as though the dive into this topic sure does get your wheels spinning. It's fascinating to reflect on what the possible future holds, and the parallels between religion that seem to arise. As always we had a little fun discussing the mermaid documentary on the Discovery Channel, Shark Week disasters, skydiving and even retirement for the Rams lineman who got to go out on top. I have been asked this question many times. The question is, how can I help a skinny young athlete build muscle and fill out? There are several tactics that you can utilize to improve your body mass as a young athlete. It can be rather difficult to increase size at a young age during a growth spurt. The best way to fill out is to have a plan. Tracking calories, improving the consumption of macros, and developing better daily habits will change your body mass dramatically. Listen as I discuss several tips that you can utilize to improve muscle mass and fill out more quickly. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/trevor-theismann/support

Research shows that the drugs utilized by Kamila Valieva offer an endurance increasing affect. The idea that she may have more endurance during her training leading up to the Olympics, and the Olympics themselves makes the Olympic committee's decision outrageous. Could there have been a better halftime show at the Super Bowl? For those 80's and 90's babies, this was the epitome of entertainment. In this podcast we discuss several things that we have encountered recently. We suggest replacing your water heater with a tankless water heater. Never running out of hot water is one of the best upgrades you can make to your home. Next, we dove into the Super Bowl and injuries. We even lingered into the crypto commercial that was really a perfect marketing strategy. Soon we touched on the music industry and how streaming services worked. And then finally we wrap it up with experiences and the minimum of what is considered the threshold of happiness. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/trevor-theismann/support
Here is the first piece of our conversation about water heaters. I know it seems a little out of left field. We normally discuss workout advice and speed in agility, but today we had to inform you about how amazing a tankless water heater truly is. It definitely is more pricey than a standard tank water heater, but the difference is vast. If you have a large family there is no reason to ever have cold water again. This by far may be the biggest upgrade that you will encounter in your life. With daily showering and hot water usage at an all-time high, you will find this to be a massive improvement in your household. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/trevor-theismann/support
The question is, is turf ruining the game of football. We have seen more knee injuries since turf has been utilized on fields. Is the need for turf too easily maintain the field? Is turf utilized to increase the speed of the game? Is turf utilized to put on a better show for TV? It's interesting to think of all of the reasons that could be utilized aside from the health of the players. It seems as though organizations need to move back to normal grass. Grass gives and turf does not. It would be interesting to know what NFL football players feel about this concept. They play many games on normal grass and I would be interested to know their opinion. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/trevor-theismann/support
Coinbase definitely receives the award for the best Super Bowl commercial in 2022. This commercial is subtle and a genius marketing strategy. It stirred up the room and was perfect for an environment full of chaos. With loud noises and chatter everywhere, this commercial brought everything to a halt. I would imagine that some even thought that the broadcast went out during the commercial. It was well timed and subtle. I have not heard anyone talk about other commercials outside of this one. Shoulder pain hits us all at some point in our life. It can come from overuse, or a sports injury. One trick that I have utilized to minimize my shoulder pain is by hanging. There has been a lot of research and a push in recent years to hang to relieve pain. I have been testing these methods for the past six months and I can successfully say it does in fact work. Not everyone can hang though. Either they are not strong enough or weigh too much. In this video I review several techniques that you can utilize to reap the benefits of hanging for your shoulder. You can utilize wrist straps, assistance resistance bands, or by standing. Listen as I discuss these techniques in greater detail to help stretch your shoulder and relieve pain. I hope this works for you as much as it has helped me. We all need a little range of motion. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/trevor-theismann/support
What works best for the average Joe? Should you do volume training or more intense workouts? The real question is how often can you workout? I find that with having two young children, three days a week is all that I can commit to weight training. Over the past couple years I have shifted from a volume based workout schedule, to a Dorian Yates based method. I do not take steroids so I do not get enormous muscle gains as you may think. But Dorian Yates's workout methods work wonders for someone looking to get in shape. It's difficult to keep my mind focused on true muscle stimulus with volume training, but by utilizing his method of complete failure sets on a muscle group I have achieved great results. Mentally, I only have to focus on breaking down the muscle and then move on to the next muscle group. This method has cut my workout time dramatically and induced the same results. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/trevor-theismann/support
Dorian Yates is the definition of dedication and goal driven. He recorded nearly every workout over the course of his career and has insane amounts of data to back his method of training. I too have tested his methods and applied it to a non-bodybuilder style workout program. At this point in my life I am no longer looking to build mass amounts of muscle. I am interested in staying healthy and mobile. Maintaining strength is important for the activities that I like to perform. I have found his high intensity workout regimen to be the most effective program to follow. With just three lifting days a week you can still receive tremendous results. Don't get it twisted. I do not take steroids and do not have that type of physique. I'm not suggesting that you'll be shredded and huge out of your mind, as for most individuals, it will require steroids. However, if you would like to have an athletic look, gain strength, and stay active into your 30's, 40's, and 50's the workout program discussed in this video is very effective. You do not need to exercise six days a week if you focus on intensity during training days. Listen as we discuss how we have utilize this training method in our daily lives. #dorianyates #weightlifting #exercise --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/trevor-theismann/support
Pain is a funny thing. You can get pain from an overworked muscle, an acute injury, or something you have acquired over years of overuse. The problem with pain is that it never seems to truly go away. An injury that is rehabbed properly can go away. It seems as though, lingering inflammation and overuse from day-to-day life causes constant nagging. If you do not workout at all, you will still experience nagging pain. In my experience working with adults and children of all ages, working out can control the pain and improve quality of life. You can create soreness in areas that you need more blood flow. This blood flow leads to properly functioning muscles. A joint that does not want to move, if moved correctly and trained properly, can still function in every day life. On the other hand, if you leave a problem area alone, it seems to deteriorate quickly. To maintain a mobile body, controlling the pain and range of motion is essential. Listen as I discuss this concept in greater detail. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/trevor-theismann/support
I don't give you this advice like every tech reviewer out there. I only give you this advice based on a decade of experience. No matter how much you do not want to upgrade your phone, it is inevitable. The battery technology as well as the performance of the phone declines so much over the course of 24 months that an upgrade becomes a necessity. Of course, if you do not use your iPhone that much, then you will be fine. For a majority of us, though, we are heavy users. The battery decline is enormous after about 14 months. This simple fact alone causes most to upgrade right away. For those of you like me, who like to save money, always hesitate buying the new phone. What I have found over the last 10 years is basically I end up buying the new phone shortly after the payment process stops anyway. So if you are going to completely embrace buying a new phone every year, don't wait, just buy it. The payment plans have become basically a TV subscription fee. Just upgrade and move on with your life. Well, that's the way I feel about it now. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/trevor-theismann/support
