The United States is deeply divided politically and it's not the only country experiencing this challenge. Too many people are focused on what makes us different rather than taking the time to understand what we have in common. In this interview, Doug Lennick, CEO of Think2Perform, discusses what he has learned from Think2Perform's global study on personal values. Hundreds of thousands of people from over 140 countries have participated in the study. Not surprisingly, people everywhere - regardless of their religion, political affiliation, country, or age - value their families, health, and happiness. In short, what unites us far outweighs what divides us. Doug believes that values-based decision making has the ability to change the world and the future of humanity. Doug goes on to talk about how living in alignment with personal values can be used to overcome emotional responses that often derail people. He talks about how our judgment is often clouded by beliefs that are confused with what people “know.” Doug finishes by defining leadership, talking about the importance of the leader as a “resource broker,” and how leaders can navigate through times of fear. Doug Lennick is CEO and co-founder of think2perform. He is legendary for his innovative approaches to developing high performance in individuals and organizations and is an expert at developing practical applications of the art and science of human behavior, financial and otherwise. In this episode of the Prosperous Empath®, I'm sitting down with financial advisor and UNBOUNDED Mastermind Alum, Cris Caruso to talk about a phenomenon that many people have experienced in recent years: lifestyle creep. Cris has been in the financial services industry since 2004 and a financial advisor since 2008. Beyond that, she has pursued additional education in understanding how our behaviors shape financial outcomes by earning the Behavioral Financial Advisor designation from Think2Perform. She also earned the Accredited Domestic Partnership Advisor credential prior to 2015 as a way to support her LGBTQIA+bclients and continues to use this knowledge to work with unmarried couples and non-traditional families. You'll appreciate her unique experience throughout today's episode as she speaks on lifestyle creep, or lifestyle inflation, which is overspending on things that you don't actually need as your income increases. When you're early in your career, your spending habits focus on must-haves like housing and groceries. But as your income increases, it's easy to lose track of what is a necessity and what are simply too many luxuries, and to just keep buying more. Cris and I discuss both values-based and practical strategies on how to identify the areas of your life you should spend generously on and where to be more mindful to reach your long-term goals. How do you live in alignment with your money, especially as an entrepreneur and an empath? You'll get an answer to this question as you listen to our thought provoking conversation on purposeful spending, the importance of allowing yourself to have fun & fabulous experiences, and more. Topics: Understanding lifestyle creep and how to identify and avoid meaningless overspending The importance of spending generously on things that truly satisfy you and how to identify what they are Recognizing how perfectionism, scarcity mindset, and societal expectations are contributing to your relationship with money Finding the right balance between lifestyle creep and mindfully increasing your spending as your income grows Navigating financial planning as an entrepreneur with a fluctuating income that often grows quicker than expected How to start investing in a way that is aligned with your values and vision Episode Resources: The Millionaire Next Door The Next Millionaire Next Door We Should All Be Millionaires BottomLine Join us on April 15th at 12pm ET for our monthly Non-Networking Power Hour for Empath Entrepreneurs with our UNBOUNDED Mastermind Community for deep connections and meaningful support. https://youtu.be/Rv5QzY8-dUA Doug Lennick is a best-selling author, CEO, and Co-Founder of Think2perform, an agency specializing in performance development for individuals and teams. We discuss effective tips for improving self-awareness, ways to become a top performer in all aspects of your life, and how to uncover your ideal self. --- Discover Your Ideal Self with Doug Lennick Our guest is Doug Lennick, the CEO of Think2Perform, a coaching and performance development company, closing the gap between your real self, who you are today, and your ideal self for both individuals and teams. Doug, welcome to the show. Thanks very much, Steve. Great to be here. Looking forward to it. All right, so very interesting. Self-awareness is a big topic and you have co-founded the company around this topic. So what was the path that led you to this decision to become the co-founder and CEO of Think2Perform? Well, I'm in my early 70s, so I won't name the number just in case this is a timeless podcast. I'm in my early 70s. Yes. And I will say since I was really young, I mean, literally, I began wondering why people do what they do when I was a young boy. And I continued, and I continue. So I'm not done. And so what really led to this is I really been interested in the answer to two questions, pretty much my entire life. The first question is why do people do what they do? And then the second question, is it possible that I or one could really be who I would ideally like to be more often. I was always looking at it from a very self-reflective perspective. Why do I do what I do? Why do other people do what they do? But then for me, is it possible that I could be who I'd like to be a little more often than I am? Because I realized I'm not the guy I want to be all the time and I just never understood that. And so those two questions essentially were the foundation of the company. Love it, that's great. So it seems to me that at the basis, and you also stated in your company description obviously, is that self-awareness is the critical ingredient in performance. So what makes it the critical ingredient? Well, without it, the advantage to self-awareness is it gives us a platform from which we can make decisions. You know, I'm a philosopher, really, who got locked into business, and my favorite chain of philosophers were the great Greeks, starting with Socrates and then Plato and then Aristotle. And Aristotle was the one to have said, knowing oneself is the beginning of wisdom. And Socrates, who was Plato's teacher, Socrates was the guy who said, a life unexamined is not worth living. Knowing oneself is the beginning of wisdom. - AristotleShare on X Yes, and so, and I don't know, I was lucky I was born into wondering, and I realized that there's something about humanity that is intriguing and exciting, and there is so much potential in each human being, and so to me, if I could unlock that answer to the question why, and then how to close the gap, that seemed to be a purpose worthy of pursuit, and so that's why we started the company. And the wonderful thing, Steve, is that, well, obviously, we aren't our ideal selves all the time, and so there is an opportunity. That's a beautiful thing, that each human being has an opportunity that never ends to get better. And so I've come to this awareness that there is no end to better. And once I came to that awareness, it really helped me feel a lot better about getting older. I used to think, not even that long ago, as recently as five years ago, I was still thinking that maybe my greatest hits were behind me. Not that I have a lot of great hits, but I have a few good hits. And they can get better. I can get better. And I feel a growth spurt going on right now in my life. And so that's exciting. And so I see myself getting better. And I've always believed this, Steve. I've always believed that the human condition, I've been saying this since my early 20s, the human condition is such that we will always...

Every leader wants to boost their team's productivity. The first step is to strengthen your leadership skills through learning agility, effective communication, and embracing empathy and compassion. Experts Doug Lennick and Chuck Wachendorfer, partners at think2perform and authors of the new book DON'T WAIT FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO FIX IT, are available for interviews to discuss their unbeatable approach to productivity: 1. Learning Agility — A leader's ability to analyze new business situations and solve problems is a top priority. Leaders must be curious, choose growth over comfort, resist defensiveness, experiment — and share these skills with their teams to boost productivity. 2. Effective Communication — Effective communication is a function of someone attempting to send a message and someone receiving that message. If the receiver does not understand the intention of the communication, then the communication is ineffective and impedes productivity. A big problem often occurs when leaders do not communicate what activities must be undertaken to achieve the organization's goals. 3. Embracing Empathy and Compassion — This leadership skill is more relevant than ever. Empathy is about understanding. Compassion is empathy in action. Any leader who actively cares about the well-being of their people will be rewarded with best efforts, higher productivity, and retention of the best and the brightest. Doug Lennick is the founding CEO of think2perform, a high-performance leadership development firm serving organizations in various industries. Why do people do what they do? And, is it possible for one to be who they would ideally like to be, more often? In this episode of the Building Us podcast, Ryan Goulart, co-author of Leveraging Your Financial Intelligence: At the Intersection of Money, Health and Happiness, joins Dr. Matt Morris, LPC, LMFT, and Erik Garcia, CFP® to discuss how financial stress impacts our physical health, emotional well-being, and why understanding your values helps guide your behaviors. Episode Highlights: What's a typical vacation for Ryan? (5:01) Ryan gives a brief background of what Think2Perform is all about. (11:31) Ryan mentions the five values he utilizes on his best day. (14:24) Ryan explains why one of his values is health. (16:16) Ryan shares why he had viewed himself as indestructible. (18:07) Ryan explains what financial intelligence means. (20:36) Ryan shares why it's important to understand values. (25:07) Ryan mentions why values are a huge point of differentiation. (33:01) What were Ryan's foundational ideas that have become clear in a new way over the last 18 months? (35:02) Ryan explains the alignment model. (42:27) Key Quotes: “My values happen to be integrity, family, health, excellence, and achievement. So, on my best day, I am utilizing all five. Now, that's extremely, extremely hard for a lot of variables. But, if I see that and reflect on my values, and think about those values as I make choices throughout my day, then my behavior gets in line. Then, my goals for myself get in line.” - Ryan Goulart “One of my values is health, and I want to be healthy. I define health as I want to be both mentally healthy, financially healthy, and physically healthy. So, I need to do something in the moment right now to be able to fix that.” - Ryan Goulart “Values and value-based decisions can help guide that behavior. It's not going to mean that just because you know your values, you're going to be immune to poor decisions, but it increases the likelihood and increases the probability that the decisions you make will be value-based.” - Ryan Goulart Resources Mentioned: Ryan Goulart LinkedIn Think2Perform Think2Perform Facebook Leveraging Your Financial Intelligence: At the Intersection of Money, Health and Happiness Erik Garcia, CFP® Dr. Matt Morris, LPC, LMFT Garcia Financial Group Matt Morris & Associates

As technology automates much of the “mechanics” of money, advisors need to evolve to the more emotional aspects of money. After all, simply helping rich people get richer isn’t usually a driving motivator for advisors—or clients. In my conversation with Doug Lennick, the co-founder of Think2Perform, an author, and former EVP of Advice and Retail Distribution for American Express Financial Advisors (now Ameriprise Financial), he shared four words that he believes underlie the real value financial advisors deliver.
