Let's talk about how personal growth, education, and the rise of fascism are connected (yeah, we're going there today). In this episode, Caitlin unpacks why so many people seem willfully ignorant—and how that ignorance is actually by design. We explore the gut-punch reality of America's education system, from the purposeful defunding of public schools to redlining, racist discipline policies, and why 57% of U.S. adults are considered partially illiterate. (Spoiler: it's not their fault.)This one's full of big feelings, nuanced rage, and deep compassion—for everyone trying to make sense of why the world feels so heavy right now.

We also explore various housing market statistics in California, focusing on counties like Santa Clara, San Mateo, Napa, and Monterey. Additionally, the episode highlights detailed property listings, advice on home inspections, and current real estate trends. In this double feature, the guys got together to honor both Michelle Trachtenberg and Gene Hackman who both passed away late February. Michell Trachtenberg who is mostly known for her roles as Harriet the Spy, Dawn Summers from Buffy, Georgina Sparks in Gossip Girl and of course, Jenny from Eurotrip. Gene Hackman who is known for so many things, but possibly most notably as Lex Luthor in the Christopher Reeve's Superman films. Not to mention the two movies he won an Oscar for The French Connection (Best Actor) and Unforgiven (Best Supporting Actor).Come enjoy a fun step back in time as the guys talk about two comedies that honestly have nothing to do with each other! One is raunchy, wild, and possibly has given us one of the greatest songs of the Millennial Generation, while the other takes inspiration (very loosely) from real events in the NFL while providing us with some Football Shenanigan's. The real questions are...why are the guys talking about Chris Benoit? Why are Mike and Corey in such a heated debate? And seriously...why doesn't Scotty know?Click here to send us a message! This episode is very raw and real and has a lot of crying.

Neil Howe, an author, historian, demographer, economist, and consultant best known for his work on social generations and generational trends, joins Julia La Roche on episode 183 to discuss the Fourth Turning. Julia and Neil recorded this episode on Friday, July 12. After the attempted assassination of former President Donald J. Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania, Neil and Julia spoke again for about 20 minutes on Sunday afternoon, which airs at the beginning. Along with the late William Strauss, Howe is credited with creating the concept of generational theory and popularizing terms such as "Millennial Generation." Howe has written several books on generational trends, including "The Fourth Turning" and "Generations." His work focuses on understanding the cyclical patterns of history and how different generations shape society. A quarter of a century ago, Howe and Strauss introduced an innovative interpretation of American history. They identified a recurring pattern: modern history proceeds in cycles, roughly 80 to 100 years long, mirroring a human lifespan. Each cycle encompasses four distinct eras, or "turnings," each lasting about 25 years and always following the same sequence. The fourth and final turning, they found, was invariably the most tumultuous and transformative, on par with events like the New Deal, World War II, the Civil War, or the American Revolution. In his newest book, "The Fourth Turning Is Here," Howe applies his understanding of historical cycles to anticipate the resolution of current civic unrest and project the potential future state of America over the next decade. According to Howe, we will reach a climax by the early 2030s. While this climax poses substantial risks, it also carries the potential for a new era of prosperity in America. The outcome of this critical juncture, he argues, will be determined by every living generation's involvement. Did you know there is a National Association for Self-Esteem? I had no idea. They feature the leading thinkers in the area of self-esteem and human potential. I think the self-esteem movement has its supporters and detractors as nearly any movement will have. It will have some practitioners who are sound, some who are off the wall, and some who give the movement a bad name. I'm not sure at all what camp the National Association falls in, but their website was…well…interesting. What started me thinking about this was an article quoting psychology Professor Jean Twenge. It said Americans born after 1970—including the so-called Generation X and Millennial Generation—have become an army of little narcissists.I'm no expert, but that analysis matches to a T what I see in young people these days. Of course, what I think I see is only what I see. Can this be backed up somewhere? Twenge goes on to say Among Americans who lived through the Great Depression and two world wars, between 1% and 2% experienced a major depressive episode in their lifetime. Suicide was more common among middle-aged people, not young people. How things have changed? Today, the lifetime rate for major depression is between 15% and 20%, [that's 10 times greater] it's an increase too large to be explained by improved case reporting. Suicide is the third leading cause of death for people ages 15 to 24, while rates have dropped for the middle aged. Why should Generation Me feel so much anxiety and pain when it has grown up in relative peace and technological and economic expansion? Boy, now there is a question. When you consider the kind of world they have lived in compared to the kind of world their grandfather lived in, good grief, why should they feel anxiety and pain? Well, let's look at some possible answers.

On today's show, writer/producer Emilio Martinez has a wide-ranging and humorous discussion about cancel culture, comedy, US politics, Christianity and more. GUEST OVERVIEW: Emilio Martinez is a Producer/Writer/Comedian. At least that's what it says on the primary ballot for his Congressional run in California District 30 (currently held by Adam Schiff). Emilio did indeed begin his career performing improv and sketch comedy with the likes of The Groundlings and as a cast member in Bob Odenkirk's one-man stage show. Since then, he worked in various roles in the industry, including producing award-winning commercials, news promotions, and post-production for reality TV and independent films. His favorite moment was discovering the secret to a great plot twist while working as the head of development for a TV film production company that produced thrillers. Meanwhile, Emilio's focus was also drawn to the study of Four Quadrant systems, starting first with his discovery of the Fourth Turning theory of history (developed by the same guys who coined the term “Millennial Generation.”) His travels in searching for a deeper understanding of the patterns in the four quadrants led him to become an expert in narrative structure, including Dramatica, along with a student of Buddhist philosopher Ken Wilber and his Integral Philosophy. After coming to Christ, Emilio was then able to tie it back to the Four Gospels. As a free-speech advocate, Emilio is using his current projects to save comedy from cancel culture —What the Church!, a comedy web series, and #FakeNews Show, an unscripted “sketch-com” based on the Harold, are set to premiere on Loor.TV in January 2024.

It's a mental health peer specialist's perspective on healthcare from Jennifer Silbaugh on this episode of the Perspectives on Healthcare Podcast with Rob Oliver. Jennifer is a new author, the book is called “A Dove in the Shadows,” and shares her personal journey from mental health patient to peer specialist. She is from just outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is a member of the Millennial Generation. Here are 3 things that stood out in a mental health peer specialist's perspective on healthcare from Jennifer Silbaugh: A peer specialist has an advantage over a professional because they have been through similar experiences to the individuals they are assisting. The shared experience comes across as more genuine wine and trustworthy than hearing it from a doctor. As with many health issues, the mental health journey is an ongoing process, even when you are in recovery. There are still struggles and challenges to face and cope with. It is refreshing to be able to talk openly about mental health. Hearing public figures and celebrities share their mental health struggles helps to reduce stigma and encourage honest discussions. She lives in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania where she serves as the Associate Dean for Interprofessional Studies at the School of Health and Rehabilitation Science at the University of Pittsburgh. Here are 3 things that stood out as Mary Goldberg shared an assistive technology specialist's perspective on healthcare: It is important to look at the people that are served by the healthcare community has more than their primary diagnosis or presenting issue. Take a look at what else is going on in their life and how it may impact their plan of care moving forward. Assistive technology improves the independence and functionality of people with disabilities. Her definition of assistive technology is a product or service that enhances the independence in health of individuals with disabilities. Technology will play a major role in the future of healthcare. Artificial intelligence can assist with diagnoses, technology can help offer personalized medicine, and telehealth offers patients access to care from anywhere. Bonus: smart home technology can help people with disabilities to be more independent but also may be able to help improve their health. Neil Howe, author, historian, economist, and consultant who is best known for his work on social generations and generational trends, joins Julia La Roche on episode 93. What are the best ways for the Church to engage the millennial generation? On today's Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson continues his interview with Pastor Jonathan Teague. They examine young adults and their disconnect with the concept of absolute truth. Jonathan has plenty of experience in dealing with this issue as a young adult minister who hears from restless students, post grads, newlyweds, and young professionals as part of the pastoral care he provides at Prestonwood Baptist Church in the Dallas area. He emphasizes why mature believers must disciple millennials, even when it's uncomfortable to do so. 1 Timothy 4:12 declares, Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. The desire for a rite of passage is contrasted by the desire for acceptance, but by whom? As the Millennial Generation rises to ascendancy in our timeline, so they are saddled with the responsibility to build traditions, and cast off cynicism. Even though holidays remind us of Traditions, most of us have spent the majority of our lives in a culture which rejects the foundations that it was built on. While this may be presented a common, though pessimistic outlook with wisps of political implications, what we find is that Millennials are reaching their zenith of tradition making, whether they like it or not. And like friends, if we do not choose them deliberately, they will be chosen for us. Traditionally, people saving for retirement and financial advisors relied on the 4% rule when calculating how much to save for retirement and the associated income those savings would provide after retirement. What if you found out it does not work? Is there another option? Today, we offer you an alternative approach, which is the 2% rule for retirement spending. Before we delve into today's main topic, we update listeners on the recent London meet-up, what to expect on upcoming shows, and who our special guest is to kick off the first episode of 2023. Then, we discuss today's main topic and learn what the 2% rule is, how it compares to the 4% rule, and whether the safe percentage for retirement is actually higher. We unpack retirement spending through the lens of several empirical papers, historical data, and market comparisons. We also find out why the US market has always been able to bounce back from uncertainty and whether there is empirical data to support the 4% rule. We also talk about the many financial challenges and opportunities that young people face, the biggest mistake people make regarding retirement, the value of financial literacy, book reviews, and more! Are you resilient? Can you think of someone who cultivates resilience on a daily basis? I can! Enjoy this conversation I had with Coco on about cultivating resilience. You can find Coco on TikTok, instagram and youtube all linked here Coco's Quote: "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear in that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our Light, not our Darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the World. There is nothing enlightening about shrinking so that other people won't feel unsure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. As we let our own Light shine, we consciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” Marianne Williamson We also mention the different generation names in this episode. The COVID pandemic has taken the lives of 1 million Americans in two years (more than twice the amount of Americans who lost their lives in WWII in four years). This grim statistic came about because of a fundamentally broken, fragmented, expensive, inequitable, and occasionally unsafe healthcare system. If the mission of our $4 trillion healthcare system is to improve health and prevent death from disease, we could look to no greater example of failure than the COVID-19 pandemic. Global pandemics are always horrific, but they also represent wonderful opportunities to learn by taking advantages of the crises invoked. The COVID crash of American healthcare is not unlike an airline crash. Failure to learn and overcome our structural and cultural flaws will have calamitous results. The airplane (American healthcare) will continue to crash again and again. We would never tolerate these failures in aviation, but why do we accept them when it comes to healthcare? The answer ultimately comes down to misalignment of financial incentives (fee-for-service medicine) and cultural headwinds related to structural racism, American exceptionalism, lack of trust, and tribalism. On this week's episode of Race to Value, we interview Dr. David Nash about his new book co-written with Charles Wohlforth, “How COVID Crashed the System: A Guide to Fixing American Health Care.” Dr. David Nash is among the world's most respected experts on health care accountability, quality, and leadership. He is the founder of the Jefferson College of Population Health in Philadelphia and remains its founding dean emeritus. In this interview, we do a deep dive on his new book explaining what went wrong as it relates to COVID and health care delivery. This is a must-listen podcast as you will hear the unfiltered truth about the pandemic from the nation's foremost prophet of population health. This podcast will make you angry and sad, but it will also leave you with optimism for the future of value-based care and population health management. We can get better and do better by those we serve – we can win this Race to Value. In a world saturated with false teachings and a desperate craving for popularity and fame, it can be difficult to keep truth at the center of our lives. In this weeks episode, Francis Chan takes us through Second Corinthians 4 and reminds us not to rely on our own wisdom or strategies to draw people to God; but that the gospel of Jesus Christ is powerful in itself.

Consider this reality. What the computer was for the Millennial Generation, social media is for Generation Z. We all recognize that social media isn't going away. Most of us don't want it to. Over nine in ten adults surveyed acknowledge they are on it themselves. What we may not recognize, however, are the moral implications it has on our young. […]
