Welcome to Take Your Time, a Persona 5 podcast by Jonathon Dornbush and Tom Marks in which the duo will be playing Persona 5 Strikers in sort of real time, but not quite as in real time as our Persona 5 Royal playthrough. Tom and Jonathon continue their P5 Strikers podcast series with episode 12, our season finale as we complete our playhtough of Persona 5 Strikers! After answering Tom's pop quiz question from last week and reading some viewer comments, Jonathon and Tom dig into the events of August 28 - 31, the final stretch of Persona 5 Strikers. The duo digs into full endgame spoilers, discussing what occurs during the events of P5 Strikers' final two Jails. Tom and Jonathon break down what happens to Sophia, Zenkichi, and all the other Phantom Thieves as they deal with what they thought would be a quiet trip home, but the end of their trip turns out to be anything but that. We discuss the heroes and villains culminating arcs in Persona 5 Strikers, the final combat sections, and what we overall thought of Persona 5 Strikers, Tom on his replay and Jonathon having experienced it for the first time. Tom also offers his pop quiz question and more. Remember, if you'd like to be part of the show, be sure to write in with your thoughts to dornology@gmail.com, or tweet at Jonathon (@jmdornbush) and Tom (@tomrmarks). We don't currently have plans in place for what or when a new season might occur, but be sure to stay tuned to our social feeds, the Dornology YouTube channel, or the podcast feeds to get updates as we plan them out. So until the next time, nice to steal ya.
Welcome to Take Your Time, a Persona 5 podcast by Jonathon Dornbush and Tom Marks in which the duo will be playing Persona 5 Strikers in sort of real time, but not quite as in real time as our Persona 5 Royal playthrough. Tom and Jonathon continue their P5 Strikers podcast series with episode 11, focused on August 24-28, which seems to bring Persona 5 Strikers to its conclusion...or so Jonathon thought! After answering Tom's pop quiz question from last week and reading some viewer comments, Jonathon and Tom dig into the events of and surrounding the Konoe Jail, which Persona 5 Strikers builds up as the Phantom Thieves' biggest challenge yet. Tom and Jonathon explore what is and isn't different about the leadup to the Jail, new Request types P5 Strikers offers, and more, before jumping into the Jail itself. The duo examines the aesthetic, the combat, and puzzle design of the Jail, as well as its climactic boss fight, before jumping into the massive story revelations of this portion of Persona 5 Strikers. We discuss what it means for the Phantom Thieves, EMMA, their nemesis, and, uh... what else there my be left to do! (Don't worry, there are no spoilers - just Jonathon hypothesizing.) Tom also offers his pop quiz question and more. Welcome to Take Your Time, a Persona 5 podcast by Jonathon Dornbush and Tom Marks in which the duo will be playing Persona 5 Strikers in sort of real time, but not quite as in real time as our Persona 5 Royal playthrough. Tom and Jonathon continue their P5 Strikers podcast series with episode 10, focused on August 23-24, which covers the next surprising jail in P5 Strikers. Plus, we're joined this week by friend of the show and Kinda Funny's Barrett Courtney to discuss such a big turn of events in the world of Persona 5 Strikers. After answering Tom's pop quiz question from last week and reading some viewer comments, Jonathon, Tom, and Barrett dig into the events of August 23-24 in Persona 5 Strikers, which covers Akane's Jail, and the major revelations surrounding it. First, we discuss the unexpected turns of the Jail's intro, its incredible stealth section, and how the Phantom Thieves change in a major way. We break down how the Thieves and their friends and foes are affected, why this sequence works so well, and much more. Then, we get into the actual Jail itself, breaking down how Persona 5 Strikers' next segment works, its unique puzzle mechanic, and how felt about P5 Strikers' continued cadence of Jails and how they do or don't follow patterns established earlier in Persona 5 Strikers. We dig into this P5 Strikers Jail's exciting (and somewhat frustrating) boss battle, the incredible music and world, and much more. Tom also offers his pop quiz question and more. Tom and Jonathon continue their P5 Strikers podcast series with episode 9, focused on August 18-23, for an episode full of plot advancements, revelations, and much more. After answering Tom's pop quiz question from last week and reading some viewer comments, Jonathon and Tom hop into a packed few days of exposition and plot development in the world of Persona 5 Strikers. With the Phantom Thieves leaving Okinawa, we discuss what Zenkichi gets up to on his own, how the Phantom Thieves plan to take some quiet time to recuperate, and how, of course, nothing quite goes to plan. We dig into what brings the Phantom Thieves to a new hideout, what Zenkichi learns, and how the group plans to proceed. Plus, we finally start to peel back the layers of our villains, learning about their motivations, how they want to deal with the Phantom Thieves, and more about Persona 5 Strikers' story. Things get personal for Zenkichi and the gang as they learn more about what's at stake, but we won't be digging into the next surprising Jail until next week's episode. Tom also offers his pop quiz question and more. Tom and Jonathon continue their P5 Strikers podcast series with episode 8, focused on August 17-18, as the Phantom Thieves explore Strikers' fourth Jail in Okinawa. After reading some comments and answering Tom's pop quiz question, Tom and Jonathon explore some of the surprising story beats leading up to P5 Strikers' fourth Jail. The duo digs into the clever tone shifts Persona 5's sequel introduces ahead of the Okinawa Jail before breaking down P5 Strikers' unique approach to its fourth Jail. We discuss how Okinawa's Jail differs from the past three jails in Strikers, what story revelations it holds for Sophia, the overarching mysteries of the sequel, and more. Jonathon and Tom pick apart some important tape recordings the gang hears in the metaverse, talk about how the Okinawa Jail's gameplay does and doesn't put a twist on the Jails so far, and dig into a wonderful Ryuji moment. We also discuss a little about what the gang gets up to after completing the Jail and before they embark on their journey to a new location. Tom also offers his pop quiz question and more. Welcome to Take Your Time, a Persona 5 podcast by Jonathon Dornbush and Tom Marks in which the duo will be playing Persona 5 Strikers in sort of real time, but not quite as in real time as our Persona 5 Royal playthrough. Tom and Jonathon continue their P5 Strikers podcast series with episode 7, focused on August 13 - 17, as the Phantom Thieves take off on the next leg of their Strikers journey through Japan. After reading some comments and answering Tom's peculiar pop quiz question, Tom and Jonathon break down the story-heavy next chapter of their Persona 5 Strikers playthrough, discussing the events of a brief stop in Kyoto, and the gang's trip to Okinawa. First, the podcast discusses Strikers' deviation from its prior formula as we dig not only onto the Phantom Thieves' ongoing Persona 5 sequel story, but also learn a bit more about Strikers newcomer Zenkichi. We dig into the personal revelations Strikers offers about his work, his family life, and the intersection of the two, as we meet a Phantom Phreak, share a nice meal, and bring just a bit of happiness to Zenkichi's tough days. Then, we discuss the first part of the Phantom Thieves' trip to Okinawa, including their boat trip, arrival and somewhat strange investigation as they look for Madicce's hidden lab, and, as you would hope for on Persona 5's summer vacation road trip sequel, a day at the beach. Tom also offers his pop quiz question and more. Tom and Jonathon continue their P5 Strikers podcast series with episode 6, focused on August 10 - 13, as the Phantom Thieves engage with the Sapporo Jail, taking on Hyodo and diving into a frosty Jail. After reading some pop quiz question answers and comments from the Take Your Time community, Tom and Jonathon dig into Hyodo's Jail, a wintery not-so-wonderland of frost that the duo breaks down, as well as some overall thoughts on Jails thus far. We discuss what is and isn't working about the formula, how the Sapporo Jail of Persona 5 Strikers does and doesn't shake things up, and some of the combat and puzzle elements of the Jail. Jonathon and Tom also dissect Hyodo's rein as Jail monarch, the surprising revelations about her story, and what it means for the overall mysteries of Persona 5 Strikers so far. We also take a look at Haru's emotional journey, and how this Jail gives her some important moments to shine, while we also discuss the group's stay in Sapporo, some fun side activities, and more. The holidays are fast approaching, and with them comes a lot of chatter about what the best video game of the year was. Is the best Game of the Year already out, or is it still on the way? Ride along with IGN's Jada Griffin, Tom Marks, Matt Kim, and Mark Medina as they speculate wildly about which PlayStation game is going to come out on top when 2022 finally comes to a close. Also, Cyberpunk 2077 is back in the headlines, not only with a brand new expansion announcement, but also the news that it's essentially a...next-gen game only going forward? Strange times!
Welcome to Take Your Time, a Persona 5 podcast by Jonathon Dornbush and Tom Marks in which the duo will be playing Persona 5 Strikers in sort of real time, but not quite as in real time as our Persona 5 Royal playthrough. Tom and Jonathon continue their P5 Strikers podcast series with episode 5, focused on August 7 - 10, as the Phantom Thieves arrive in Sapporo and learn about their newest Jail and Monarch. After reading some pop quiz question answers and comments from the Take Your Time community, Tom and Jonathon discuss the next leg of the Phantom Thieves trip, as the gang hits the road yet again and arrives in Sapporo. They discuss what the Thieves encounter when they first head into town on a trip to a bathhouse, as well as checking in on how we're feeling about P5 Strikers' requests system. The duo then breaks down the events of the next few days, as the Phantom Thieves meet with Zenkichi to discuss their potential new target, the gang learns about their new surroundings, and Yusuke has a lot of concerns about... milk. Jonathon and Tim dissect the story over these next few days leading up to the new Jail, including our first encounter with the new Monarch, how Strikers twists up its story flow thus far, and some personal developments in the Phantom Thieves lives. Tom also offers his pop quiz question and more. Remember, if you'd like to be part of the show, be sure to write in with your thoughts to dornology@gmail.com, or tweet at Jonathon (@jmdornbush) and Tom (@tomrmarks). Welcome to Take Your Time, a Persona 5 podcast by Jonathon Dornbush and Tom Marks in which the duo will be playing Persona 5 Strikers in sort of real time, but not quite as in real time as our Persona 5 Royal playthrough. Tom and Jonathon continue their P5 Strikers podcast series with episode 4, focused on August 2 - 7, as the Phantom Thieves tackle P5 Strikers' second Jail, ruled by the Monarch Ango Natsume. After reading some pop quiz question answers and comments from the Take Your Time community, Tom and Jonathon dig into the second jail, facing off with the Prince of Nightmares himself, Ango Natsume. The duo discusses what they do and don't like about P5 Strikers' second Jail, how the meta-writing of its story comes through in the writing, and more about how it builds on the structure of Alice's Jail. The duo also discusses the boss fight against Dragon-Ango, how Strikers' battles are building off of some surprising character beats, and more. But because there's a surprising amount of story to get through this week, the duo breaks down Ango's path as a Jail ruler, including his motives for stealing Desires, the people around him, and what redemption could mean for the character. That also means we discuss some of the surprising gray area Strikers finds itself in when it comes to depicting its villains so far, while also reflecting back on how this Jail tees up some key character growth for Yusuke. Jonathon and Tom also talk about what happens after the Jail, including the setup for new goings-on with EMMA's creator, the Phantom Thieves' next plans, and more. Plus, the introduction of Requests, some cute character moments, and our new pal, Gramps. Tom also offers his pop quiz question and more. And as always, nice to steal ya.
Welcome to Take Your Time, a Persona 5 podcast by Jonathon Dornbush and Tom Marks in which the duo will be playing Persona 5 Strikers in sort of real time, but not quite as in real time as our Persona 5 Royal playthrough. Tom and Jonathon continue their P5 Strikers podcast series with episode 2, focused on July 31 - August 2, as the Phantom Thieves hit the road and venture away from home for their new adventure. After addressing Tom's dual Pop Quiz questions and some viewer comments from last week, we dive into the aftermath of Alice's Jail as the Phantom Thieves discuss what to do next in Persona 5 Strikers. With a camper and an agreement with Zenkichi, they hit the open road and plan their trip, hoping to pick up new Jails and Monarchs along the way, and have some fun summer break times along the way. The duo digs into the Phantom Thieves' arrival in Sendai and the discovery of a new potential Monarch, while discussing what it's like to have the Phantom Thieves travel outside the world we knew in Persona 5. Jonathon and Tom discuss what they like so far about the introduction to cooking, this new location, and how the story is intriguingly mirroring but evolving Persona 5's emotional beats. Tom and Jonathon continue their P5 Strikers podcast series with episode 2, focused on July 27 - 31, aka the entirety of Alice's Jail, Persona 5 Strikers' take on Palaces. The duo digs into P5 Strikers' first big showcase for its combat, dungeon design, and the major ways in which it has translated Persona 5 Royal's systems into a more action-based game. Jonathon and Tom open the discussion by offering their broad thoughts on the Jail as a whole, whether they think it's a good introduction to all the new systems, how it differs from Palaces, and more. Next, they dig into combat and the many changes that have been made but that still adapt Persona 5 Royal's mechanics. While we don't exhaustively cover all combat mechanics, we offer some top-level thoughts, discuss party abilities, Persona usefulness, new ideas like evading and environmental attacks, and more. Then, they dig into the story and flow of Alice's Jail that sets off Persona 5 Strikers' overarching story. They explore how Prison Keeps, Cores, battles, and exploration all flow together, how they feel about Alice's story within the Jail, and what it's like to go after the first Monarch in Persona 5 Strikers to return people's Desires. We also dig into some of the Phantom Thieves time with Hasegawa, whether they trust him, and what the larger story may involve. Jonathon offers his conspiracy theories about Sophia and Hasegawa, and then the duo set up where Strikers will take us into next week's episode. Tom also offers his first pop quiz question of the season, and more. Tom and Jonathon officially kick off their P5 Strikers podcast series with episode 1, focused on July 23 - 27. (We know we said we'd go through the entire palace for this episode, but we decided to break things up to make sure we had enough time to discuss all the story at the beginning of Persona 5 Strikers!) The duo digs into P5 Strikers' story opening starting with the events of July 23 through July 27, covering the reintroduction of the Phantom Thieves, new characters like Inspector Hasegawa, Sophia, and Alice Hiiragi, and dig into the new central mysteries Persona 5 Strikers' story sets up. We also discuss what it's like to dip into the world of Persona 5 Strikers' take on palaces, which we now know as Jails. Jonathon offers some of his guesses as to what's going on at the start of P5 Strikers' tale, Tom gushes over his love for Sophia, and we discuss plenty more! Tom also offers his first pop quiz question of the season, and Jonathon begs for help in figuring out a Persona Pseudonym replacement. Remember, if you'd like to be part of the show, be sure to write in with your thoughts to dornology@gmail.com, or tweet at Jonathon (@jmdornbush) and Tom (@tomrmarks). On this week's episode of IGN's PlayStation show, Podcast Beyond!, host Jonathon Dornbush is joined by Jada Griffin, Tom Marks, and Mark Medina to discuss all the latest and greatest in the world of PlayStation, including our thoughts on why Stray is the adorable cat game we hoped for. But first, we jump into some of the PlayStation news of the last week, including the announcement of the new PlayStation Stars loyalty program, whether we hope it means the return of PlayStation Home thanks to its assortment of digital collectible, and how we hope these new features are implemented. Then, we talk a bit about God of War Ragnarok's new story synopsis (skip ahead if you don't want to hear any details), as well as PlayStation deepening its investment in the esports space. Then, we dive into our thoughts on Stray, the new PlayStation-console exclusive from Annapurna and BlueTwelve Studio. Tom reviewed Stray for IGN, so he offers some thoughts from his review about why he thought Stray was great, Jonathon and Mark offer their experiences having beaten Stray as well, and Jada offers her early impressions from the beginning of Stray…as well as how she played Tokyo Jungle to get another cat gaming experience while she waited. We also dig into a lovely Jak & Daxter Memory Card story, read some of your responses to Mark's TLOU question from last week, and help a listener figure out what RPGs to jump into. What's bonkin' everybody? Welcome to Take Your Time, a podcast by Jonathon Dornbush and Tom Marks where the duo will be playing Persona 5 Royal in real time, playing along with P5R's in-game calendar. Join Tom and Jonathon for episode 50 as we dive into the week of March 14 - 20 (but also double back to March 13) in the world of P5R, as we finish up our Persona 5 Royal playthrough! The bittersweet end is here, but we've got a lot to talk about. As our Persona 5 Royal playthrough continues, and reaches its conclusion, Jonathon and Tom first take some time to discuss what our plans for the show are now that we've wrapped up P5R. And, slight spoilers, we're going on a bit of a break! With a few big life things coming up, we're going to take some time off after this first season of TYT, but it's by no means the end of the show! No, instead, we'll be starting up Persona 5 Strikers this July! Stay tuned to the channel, and our Twitter profiles, for more details, but much like the Phantom Thieves, we'll be back soon enough. (Except this time, you will see it coming.) But before we get to what's to come, we reflect on Persona 5 Royal's ending, jumping into the events of the last week of Persona 5 Royal, as well as a day of events we forgot to cover last week! (Hey, it took 50 episodes to make a mistake like that.) We dig into Joker's romantic plans, or lack thereof, for White Day, Sojiro's smooth assistance, and what this nice slice of normalcy is like for the P5 lead before the conclusion. Then, we jump into Royal's final couple of days, saying goodbye to the wider Persona 5 cast, both big and small, diving into where the story leaves them, and reflecting on Joker's final moments with the wider P5 ensemble. Then, we discuss the shocking final scenes of P5R, including Persona 5 Royal's brand new animated outro, as well as P5R's new post-credits scene, what it might mean for the story, and so much more. Plus, our Persona 5 podcast offers another Pop Quiz question, answers listener questions, and a lot more. Thank you so much to all of our listeners and viewers who have been with us on this incredible journey. Whether you started listening day one or just yesterday, or are checking this show out long after it's been recorded, we're so moved by your support for this show that started as a silly little project between two friends. We've discovered a wonderful, supportive community of Persona fans, and we're so grateful for your support since the show began. We can't wait for what the future holds, and we're excited to return, but in the mean time, be sure to write in with your thoughts to dornology@gmail.com, or tweet at Jonathon (@jmdornbush) and Tom (@tomrmarks). And as always, nice to steal ya.
Welcome to Take Your Time, a podcast by Jonathon Dornbush and Tom Marks where the duo will be playing Persona 5 Royal in real time, playing along with P5R's in-game calendar. Join Tom and Jonathon for episode 49 as we dive into the week of March 7 - 13 in the world of P5R, which means we have a week of skipped days! But that free time allows us to have a very special guest on, patron saint of Take Your Time, Andrew Goldfarb. Yes, we've mentioned him practically every week on the show, and finally Andrew joins us to discuss how his enthusiasm for Persona 5 led Jonathon, Tom, Barrett, and others to play P5, what his overall thoughts are on having platinumed base P5 in Japanese and English, as well as platinuming P5, and much more. With no in-game events to discuss this week, Jonathon and Tom thought it would be a great moment to have on the man who essentially caused this show to exist, his overall love for Persona as a series, what he recommends for those listening and watching if they'd like to explore more beyond P5 Royal, and much more in this wide-ranging discussion. We're gearing up for the finale of our P5 Royal playthrough next week, so be sure to send in your last Persona 5 Royal questions, comments, critiques and praise either in the comment or by email! We've loved taking this journey with you all, and hope you're excited for the end to our journey with Persona 5 Royal. Welcome to Take Your Time, a podcast by Jonathon Dornbush and Tom Marks where the duo will be playing Persona 5 Royal in real time, playing along with P5R's in-game calendar. Join Tom and Jonathon for episode 48 as we dive into the week of Feb. 28 - March 6 in the world of P5R, which means we dive into a couple of key days of story as Persona 5 continues to wrap up. With a shorter week in store, Jonathon and Tom cover the two days' worth of Persona 5 Royal plot progression, as the gang starts to discuss what the future has in store for them. We break down the group's respective interests, how they may be parting ways, what they all want to get up to now that the Persona 5 Phantom Thieves are seemingly no more, and in general where they see their lives going after P5's story. It's an emotional, sad, and stirring couple of days, but we're not done yet, so continue to join us as we look toward the end of the Phantom Thieves' story. On top of that this week, because there's such a focus on the party, Jonathon and Tom decide to offer their long-awaited ranking of the entire P5R party! We rank from best to least best our favorite members of the Phantom Thieves, what we loved and didn't quite connect with, and much more. But, of course, these are just our rankings! Be sure to let us know your rankings of the party members wherever you enjoy the show! Plus, our Persona 5 podcast offers another Pop Quiz question, answers listener questions, and a lot more. Welcome to Take Your Time, a podcast by Jonathon Dornbush and Tom Marks where the duo will be playing Persona 5 Royal in real time, playing along with P5R's in-game calendar. Join Tom and Jonathon for episode 47 as we dive into the week of Feb. 21 - 27 in the world of P5R, which means we don't have any days' activities to discuss! But fear not, we're joined by friend of the show Barrett Courtney for a special ranking of the P5 palaces! As our Persona 5 Royal podcast and playthrough continues but we wait for new events to occur, we dig into a long-requested feature on the show - ranking all of P5R's palaces. (Yes, we do start the show saying we'll rank party members too, but as is our nature, we spend so much time debating and discussing the palaces that we'll move party ranking to another episode!) Tom and Jonathon bring their respective P5R palace rankings to the table, as they attempt to come up with a definitive Take Your Time Persona 5 Royal ranking of every palace from best to least best (because we still found some things to like even about our least favorite). Barrett joins us to offer his ranking as well, plus help serve as tiebreaker and conscience for Jonathon and Tom, keeping them from making any overly dramatic (or wrong) decisions. But, of course, these are just our rankings! Be sure to let us know your rankings of the palaces wherever you enjoy the show!
