Join Alex, Kyle, Charles, and Eric as they take a look at some of the first big games of 2025's latter half, from Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater to early impressions of Battlefield 6 through its open beta. There's also some details on the strange sports game Drag x Drive from Nintendo, the gorgeous blade-skater Sword of the Sea, the charming indie puzzler Is This Seat Taken?, and our reactions to Gamescom Opening Night Live. In today's Daily Fix:Looks like there's still some bad blood between gaming auteur Hideo Kojima and his former employers at Konami. In an interview with Ssense, Kojima was asked if he was going to play the upcoming remake of his Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, titled Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater. He replied, "No." Kojima and Konami had a falling out during the development of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which saw the famed developer leave to form his own studio, which has released two Death Stranding games. In other news, Hollow Knight still does not have an official release date, despite a Nintendo Partner Direct happening, which would have been a good opportunity to make the announcement. And finally, in the same Direct, a new Octopath Traveler was announced for all current-gen consoles.

Show Notes On this week's podcast, Dan and Kris try their darndest to recap the over 12 hours of trailers presented in the various summer showcases that hit this past week, from the Horror Game Awards Summer Showcase to a surprisingly outstanding State of Play, Summer Games Fest, and more. Did they lose their minds wading through these things? Were the likes of Scott Pilgrim, Ninja Gaiden Ragebound, Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection, and Metal Gear Solid Delta enough to drive them truly mad? Then, in Week Old News, well, there was no Week Old Mews. It was just all these showcases! Finally, in The Checkpoint, Kris got the Switch 2! He recaps his experience getting it at the midnight launch, how the setup went, and how late he was up messing around with it on Day 1. Plus, Welcome Tour and Mario Kart World impressions, the joys of backward compatibility, Link's Awakening at a steady framerate, and more! Enjoy! Episode 381 – Summer Game Fest Things, Night Springs, and Big SwingsFred's back in the spooky saddle after diving into the Alan Wake II DLCs—he's completed Night Springs and has just cracked open The Lakehouse. Meanwhile, Jake rolled credits on Expedition 33 and while the ending didn't totally land for him, the journey was strong enough to make it one of his recent favorites. He also dipped into Doom: The Dark Ages, because of course he did. This week, we take a deep breath and unpack Summer Game Fest 2025. From the hype around sequels like Resident Evil: Requiem and Atomic Heart 2, to the weirdly compelling ILL and Reddit darling Stranger Than Heaven, the show had a little something for everyone—or maybe too much of everything. We talk about the odd bait-and-switch with Capcom's teaser, how ILL might be more tech demo than game, and whether Atomic Heart really needed a multiplayer spin-off called The Cube.We also take stock of upcoming DLCs (Lies of P: Overture, 007: First Light), roster updates (Street Fighter 6), and stylish indies like Mixtape, Blighted, End of Abyss, and Scott Pilgrim EX. Some reveals had us curious—like Onimusha Way of the Sword and Jurassic World Evolution 3—while others, like Sonic Racing: Crosswinds and the Marvel DLC, barely got a shrug. Then it's on to the PS5 flood that came from the Xbox Showcase of all places—Persona 4 Remake, The Outer Worlds 2, Gears of War Reloaded, Ninja Gaiden 4, Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster, Metal Gear Solid Delta, and 007 First Light all made strong showings. Sprinkle in Astro Bot, Thief VR, and a few curveballs like PAC-MAN in Hot Shots Golf and you've got a showcase that left us wondering if Xbox accidentally threw a better PS event than Sony's recent State of Play (Which we also discuss)We wrap things up with the latest releases, including the Alien Hominid double drop, MindsEye finally hitting shelves, and newcomers like The Alters, Wizard of Legend 2, and Zombie Army VR shaking things up. The industry's newest sales success is the long-awaited Kingdom Come: Deliverance sequel, which immediately sold a million copies upon release. But it's hardly alone. And the rest of this long year is already shaping up to be something special, with Metal Gear Solid Delta's release date leaking, Death Stranding 2's newest trailer drawing nearer, and EA's Battlefield finally toying with a real comeback. Other news this week includes the potential of a discless PlayStation 6, the arrival of more Xbox games on PS5 in the form of Age of Empires and Age of Mythology, Capcom's announcement of a port of PS2's Onimusha 2 for PlayStation 4, and more. Let's then round things out with listener inquiries, as is our tradition. What are our thoughts on the return of games media brand Rooster Teeth? Is Sony putting its own games on sale too quickly and too steeply, to its own detriment? Did EA executives really claim Dragon Age: The Veilguard failed because it wasn't live service? Will Colin ever recover from tendinitis, or are his weightlifting days over? Please keep in mind that our timestamps are approximate, and will often be slightly off due to dynamic ad placement. For years, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo have battled for dominance, but in 2025, does the "console war" even matter? With cross-play, Game Pass, cloud gaming, and shifting strategies, the industry looks very different. This week on The Gaming Duo, Kelvin and Rob break it all down:

It seems all any of you want to talk about is Concord, Sony-owned studio Firewalk's dead-on-arrival service shooter, and easily one of the biggest commercial bombs in PlayStation first party history. We have a lot to say about it, and you can find that chatter in the What We're Playing section. But there's a ton of other news this week, too, including more PS5 Pro leaks that show us what the console actually looks like, further trials and tribulations at Bungie, the announcement of Sony's MENA Hero Project incubation effort, Blue Protocol's cancellation, Foamstars going free-to-play, a looming strike at French studio Spiders, and more. Then: Listener inquiries. What can Sony do to ensure Fairgames doesn't fall into the same traps Concord did? Should PlayStation Studios be pursuing single player-friendly games-as-a-service, a la MiHoYo titles? Do we criticize or commend Konami for seemingly changing very little in MGS3 remake Metal Gear Solid Delta? What did Colin think of a particularly eldritch video Chris recommended, ranking Sonic's most attractive characters?
