They have drawn more of them overall, more of them on field goals and extra points, more of them on fourth-and-1, more of them when opponents were on the fringes of field-goal range, more of them inside their own 10-yard line — basically more of them when it matters most. Their defensive linemen are known among opponents for moving subtly or not so subtly — “stemming” is the parlance — to draw offensive movement in critical moments. Nose tackle Teair Tart sometimes aligns in a stance with one knee on the ground. As the snap nears, he raises the knee off the ground, sometimes triggering movement from the offense. Fellow nose tackle Naquan Jones and other linemen sometimes shift abruptly, with similar results. The Titans have done this so well in critical situations, they lead the league in expected points added (EPA) on opponent false-start penalties since Vrabel took over, and it's not particularly close..." https://www.latimes.com/world-nation/story/2022-11-21/colorado-gay-nightclub-shooting-motive https://www.nytimes.com/article/victims-colorado-springs-shooting.html https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/21/us/colorado-springs-nightclub-shooting.html Join this channel to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSFVD7Xfhn7sJY8LAIQmH8Q/join https://odysee.com/@LukeFordLive, https://lbry.tv/@LukeFord, https://rumble.com/lukeford https://dlive.tv/lukefordlivestreams Superchat: https://entropystream.live/app/lukefordlive Bitchute: https://www.bitchute.com/channel/lukeford/ Soundcloud MP3s: https://soundcloud.com/luke-ford-666431593 Code of Conduct: https://lukeford.net/blog/?p=125692 https://www.patreon.com/lukeford http://lukeford.net Email me: lukeisback@gmail.com or DM me on Twitter.com/lukeford Support the show | https://www.streamlabs.com/lukeford, https://patreon.com/lukeford, https://PayPal.Me/lukeisback Facebook: http://facebook.com/lukecford Feel free to clip my videos. Host Carl Lewis and NFL punter James Godlonton make their picks for the Week 8 of the NFL, included, we have some player props and a parlay from Carl. Denver Broncos vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (-2.5) Let's check in on how things are going with the Broncos as they prepare for their game in London:   Before the season, if you would've told me that the Broncos defense would be ranked first in EPA per drive (where they stand currently) after seven weeks, I'd have guessed we'd be looking at a legit Super Bowl contender. But the offense ranks 29th, and they're 2-5. The Jaguars have five losses on the season, too, but all five of them have been one-possession games. Their offense moves the ball most weeks. Trevor Lawrence could have some trouble against Denver, but I trust the Jaguars to do enough to win by a field goal in London. The pick: Jaguars (-2.5)   Follow along as Steven Ruiz analyzes and grades the NFL's quarterbacks all season long Chicago Bears at Dallas Cowboys (-9.5) The Bears unleashed a version of their offense last week that everyone's been begging for. They used Justin Fields in the designed run game, and it worked out beautifully. Chicago scored on seven of its first nine possessions en route to a 33-14 win over the Patriots. But keeping that momentum going against Dallas will be a challenge. The Cowboys have an athletic defense, and the Bears will no longer benefit from the element of surprise. I see a competitive game, but the Cowboys force a turnover late and get the cover. The pick: Cowboys (-9.5)   Las Vegas Raiders at New Orleans Saints (+1.5) Stat that would probably surprise a lot of people: The Raiders offense currently ranks second in expected points added (EPA) per drive. They've figured some things out, and running back Josh Jacobs has been a big part of the solution. He's third in the NFL with 633 rushing yards and is averaging 5.7 yards per carry. The Raiders are 2-4, but all four losses have been by six points or fewer.   As for the Saints, they're sticking with Andy Dalton over Jameis Winston at quarterback. Remember, losing games gets the Saints nowhere in terms of draft positioning. They traded their first-round pick to the Eagles, and that could prove to be really painful. If the season ended today, that'd be the no. 6 pick. I don't think the Saints are very good, and I like the Raiders to be able to move the ball in this one. Pick: Raiders (-1.5) Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons (-4.5) The Falcons got lit up for 537 yards in a loss to the Bengals last week, and their secondary has been decimated by injuries. A.J. Terrell did not practice Wednesday because of a hamstring injury. That means it'll likely be two backup starters at corner for Atlanta in this game. Last week's Panthers win over the Bucs was one of the most surprising results of the season. Carolina is headed nowhere, but its young players, including defensive end Brian Burns and defensive tackle Derrick Brown, continue to make plays. With P.J. Walker at quarterback, the Panthers delivered their best offensive performance of the season in terms of EPA per drive.   Given the Falcons' cornerback situation and how often they run the ball, I'm taking the points here.   The pick: Panthers (+4.5) Pittsburgh Steelers at Philadelphia Eagles (-10.5) The Eagles are coming off a bye and remain the NFL's only undefeated team. According to Football Outsiders, the Eagles have the second-easiest remaining schedule in the NFL. The next four quarterbacks they're slated to face are: Kenny Pickett, Davis Mills, Taylor Heinicke, and Sam Ehlinger. The Steelers battled last week in a 16-10 loss to the Dolphins. If they could have held on to one of a handful of interception opportunities, they might have had a chance to steal the game. One fun subplot for this game: How will the Steelers' coaching staff attack Jalen Hurts? Head coach Mike Tomlin, senior defensive assistant Brian Flores, and defensive coordinator Teryl Austin have seen a lot of football. They might not have the roster talent to slow Hurts down, but it's at least possible that they'll come up with a game plan that other teams take notice of in future weeks. The Eagles are the much better team right now, and a blowout would not be surprising, but this is a big number, and I generally lean toward Tomlin when he's an underdog.   The pick: Steelers (+10.5) Miami Dolphins at Detroit Lions (+3.5) The Lions have been outscored 53-6 in their past two losses, to the Patriots and Cowboys. Part of the issue has been injuries, and it sounds like there's at least a chance that running back D'Andre Swift and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown could play in this game. The Dolphins squeaked by the Steelers on Sunday night. Pro Football Focus charts what it calls turnover-worthy plays. The idea is that you should treat a dropped interception the same as an actual interception when assessing the quarterback. Tua Tagovailoa has the second-highest percentage of turnover-worthy plays among starters this season. Given their speed on offense, the Dolphins are capable of blowing teams out on any given week. But I like the Lions to recapture some of the offensive magic we saw early in the season and keep it close here. The pick: Lions (+3.5) Arizona Cardinals at Minnesota Vikings (-3.5) For what feels like the 100th time this season, Kyler Murray and Kliff Kingsbury went at it on the sideline last week after the Cardinals had to waste a timeout because the play clock was winding down. On a positive note for the Cardinals, their win over the Saints was their best offensive performance of the season in terms of EPA per play. DeAndre Hopkins returned, and his presence on the field has been a game-changer for them the past couple of seasons. The Vikings are 5-1, and they are tied with the Cowboys for the second-best Super Bowl odds in the NFC behind the Eagles. I cohost and/or listen to roughly 400 hours of NFL podcasts each week and have not found a single person who really believes in the Vikings. The best thing about Vikings fans is that they won't be offended by that assessment. There's no chance they believe in this team yet, either. I never like taking the Cardinals, given how disorganized they are on a weekly basis, but I do like the matchup of their offence against the Vikings defence. The pick: Cardinals (+3.5) New England Patriots at New York Jets (+2.5) Bill Belichick got outcoached by Matt Eberflus last week. I did not expect to type that sentence this season! Belichick's quarterback platoon plan backfired, and the Patriots were not prepared for Justin Fields to be unleashed as a runner. They got outplayed on special teams too.   Mac Jones is expected to get the start this week for New England. The Jets are reeling a bit after they lost running back Breece Hall and guard Alijah Vera-Tucker to season-ending injuries. I like both defences. It'll likely be a low-scoring game, but I trust Mac Jones to make more plays than Zach Wilson. The pick: Patriots (-2.5) Tennessee Titans at Houston Texans (+2.5) Look who's in first place in the AFC South yet again. Yup, it's the Titans. They have failed to score more than 24 points in a game this season, yet they've won four games in a row and are 4-2. The Titans don't do anything great. They are 25th in EPA per drive on offense and 13th on defense. But they're well-coached and don't give games away. Slogan for winning the AFC South in 2022: Don't screw it up. As for the Texans, Football Outsiders gives them a 17 percent chance to land the top pick in the 2023 draft. They've generally been a competitive team. Even last week, Houston was up 20-17 going into the fourth quarter before the Raiders scored 21 straight. If this line got above a field goal, I'd be tempted to take the Texans. Ryan Tannehill is dealing with an ankle injury, but I still like the Titans to grind out an ugly win. The pick: Titans (-2.5) New York Giants at Seattle Seahawks (-3) Both Brian Daboll and Pete Carroll are on the short list of Coach of the Year candidates. The Giants are somehow seventh in offensive DVOA. As coaches around the league make excuses for why their teams aren't performing, Daboll has shown he can do more with less. As for the Seahawks, I thought they'd be doomed this year. Instead, they're in first place in the NFC West. Fox analyst Mark Sanchez had an apt observation during their win over the Chargers last week: He said the Seahawks' sideline looked like a party, while the Chargers' sideline looked like a morgue. Carroll's teams always play with joy, and he deserves credit for that. As for this game, I see two pretty evenly matched teams. I'll take the points. The pick: Giants (+3)   Washington Commanders at Indianapolis Colts (-3) It sure sounds like the decision to go from Matt Ryan to Sam Ehlinger at quarterback was driven by owner Jim Irsay.   So Irsay wanted Carson Wentz traded, then signed off on the Ryan trade, and now prefers Ehlinger? I'm not sure that the Colts have a sound process in place here. It's possible that Ehlinger gives them a boost of energy. We see that often with new quarterbacks. But the truth is the Colts just don't have a lot of talent on offense.   Taylor Heinicke didn't exactly light it up last week, but Washington's defensive front can still create problems. In what feels like a coin-flip game, I'll take the points. The pick: Commanders (+3) San Francisco 49ers at Los Angeles Rams (+1.5) According to The Athletic's Tim Kawakami, one reason the 49ers traded for Christian McCaffrey was that they were still bitter about losing out to the Rams in the Matthew Stafford deal. It sounds like the 49ers admire the Rams' “eff them picks” approach, but there are differences between what they did for McCaffrey and what the Rams have done. One, the Rams have generally traded picks for players at premium positions. Stafford at quarterback. Jalen Ramsey at cornerback. Von Miller at edge rusher. And two, one reason the Rams' approach has worked out is because they've stayed relatively healthy, at least until this season. We've seen their depth get tested this year, and it hasn't been pretty. The 49ers traded for a running back who played in 10 games in 2020 and 2021 combined. They now don't have a pick until the end of the third round in the 2023 draft. Plus, they'll have to pay McCaffrey $12 million next season. That's $12 million they can't spend elsewhere on the roster. I think the trade is both fun and reckless. The fun part will be watching Kyle Shanahan scheme up an offense for McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Brandon Aiyuk. It's possible this group will stay healthy and get to the Super Bowl. But the most likely scenario is that this will end up being a poor use of resources. As for this game, I think I'm the last person on the planet who isn't giving up on the Rams just yet. Let's see what this offense looks like now that Sean McVay has had a chance to make some tweaks during the bye. The pick: Rams (+1.5) RELATED Are Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady Just Down, or Are They Out? Green Bay Packers at Buffalo Bills (-10.5) According to TruMedia's database, this is the first time in Aaron Rodgers's career that the Packers have been an underdog of 10 points or more. Offensively, I see a quarterback who doesn't trust his pass catchers. Defensively, I see a group that is not playing up to its talent.   Then we have the Bills. Their plus-95 point differential is not only tops in the NFL, but it's 39 points better than any other team. Would it surprise me if Rodgers looked like the two-time reigning MVP, the Packers thrived in the “nobody believes in us” role, and they made this a competitive game? No. But I'm in “prove it” mode with Green Bay. The Bills are talented and well-coached, and they never take their foot off the gas. I'm not fading them here. The pick: Bills (-10.5) Cincinnati Bengals at Cleveland Browns (+3.5) I didn't see the Bengals' 35-17 win over the Falcons last week as proof that they've figured out their offensive scheme. To me, it was just a reminder of how special the best version of Joe Burrow is. He went 34-for-42 for 481 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions, spreading the ball around and making a number of high-level throws. In a year when so many quarterbacks are struggling, Burrow ranks fourth in EPA per pass play. The Browns, meanwhile, are reeling. They've lost four in a row, and per The Athletic's Zac Jackson, someone in the locker room yelled “no f---ing leadership” after last week's loss to the Ravens. Not great! Two things the Browns will lean on here: their run game and their pass rush. I think the Bengals do enough to win, but this feels like a field goal game. I'll take the home dogs. The pick: Browns (+3.5)

Host Carl Lewis and NFL punter James Godlonton chat NFL Week 5 and as usual, they give their best bets and gut picks for every game in Week 5. Indianapolis Colts at Denver Broncos (-3.5) This feels like a huge game for both of these teams. The Colts are showing a bunch of signs that suggest they might just be a terrible team. They've been outscored by 42 points in the first halves of their four games—the second-worst differential in the NFL. Matt Ryan leads the NFL with nine fumbles. And they very easily could be 0-3-1, if the Chiefs didn't hand them a win in Week 3. Now the Colts go to Denver without running back Jonathan Taylor and linebacker Shaquille Leonard.   The Broncos have been shaky as well, but I like what I've seen from their defence. It's hard to see a scenario where the Colts move the ball consistently against that group. The pick: Broncos (-3.5) New York Giants at Green Bay Packers (-7.5) The Packers needed overtime last week to beat the Patriots and third-string QB Bailey Zappe. They're 3-1, but their last two wins have come by a combined five points. The Giants are also 3-1. They completed just nine passes in last week's win over the Bears. I think the Giants' defence will be creative and aggressive enough to keep the team competitive against bad offences most weeks, but this game feels like another story. Aaron Rodgers has seen every blitz known to man. And, it was just a couple weeks ago that the Cowboys went up and down the field against the Giants. Green Bay takes care of business in London. The pick: Packers (-7.5) Pittsburgh Steelers at Buffalo Bills (-14) Two things stood out with quarterback Kenny Pickett in his NFL debut last week against the Jets: For better or worse, he's going to let it rip. He's going to make some plays with his legs. But this is a tough spot for the Steelers. They're sloppy on offence, and offensive coordinator Matt Canada has not shown that he'll give them any kind of an edge schematically. Pickett will be going up against a talented defence with veteran coaches in Sean McDermott and defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier. Maybe he'll make some second-reaction plays, and their receivers will win some one-on-one matchups, but I don't see this going well for Pickett. On the other side of the ball, the Steelers have looked like a mediocre defence without T.J. Watt, and star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick missed practice Wednesday with a knee injury. I generally don't like going against Mike Tomlin when he's an underdog, but the Bills never take their foot off the gas. This one could get ugly. The pick: Bills (-14) Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars (-7) Trevor Lawrence didn't give the Jaguars a chance in the rain last week against the Eagles. He turned the ball over five times and left plays on the field all afternoon. The weather affected him as much as any quarterback I've seen in recent years.   The Texans go into Week 5 as the NFL's only winless team, putting them in the driver's seat for the no. 1 overall pick. But they've been competitive. Even last week against the Chargers, they scored 17 straight at one point to get back into the game. Jaguars win, but I'm taking the points. The pick: Texans (+7) Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-9) Success rate measures how often each play produces a positive result in terms of Expected Points Added (EPA). It strips away outliers because a seven-yard completion on 3rd-and-6 is treated the same as a 50-yard completion. Both are deemed successful. Through four games, the Falcons' offence ranks second in success rate. The Bucs are all the way down at 18th. Who could've seen that coming? There are plenty of reasons to think that this line is too high. The Falcons have moved the ball well, and Tom Brady is listed on the Bucs' injury report with finger and shoulder ailments. The Bucs have lost two in a row. Still, I'm not sure the Falcons' approach is sustainable. Quarterback Marcus Mariota completed just seven passes in their win over the Browns last week. Plus, the Falcons will be without Cordarrelle Patterson, who is on injured reserve. I think Tampa will eventually find itself on offence, and that process might start right here. The pick: Bucs (-9) Tennessee Titans at Washington Commanders (+2.5) The Commanders' season is quickly turning into a nightmare. It's hard to identify anything that they actually do well. Washington is 30th in Football Outsiders' DVOA metric—28th on offence and 24th on defence. Quarterback Carson Wentz currently ranks 26th in EPA per pass play. The Titans are a flawed team, but the offence has had flashes, and running back Derrick Henry looked terrific during last week's win over the Colts. The Commanders haven't covered or beaten the spread since Week 1. It feels like the move is to continue to fade them until I get burned. The pick: Titans (-2.5) Chicago Bears at Minnesota Vikings (-7) The Bears' 67 pass attempts through four games are the fewest by any team in TruMedia's database, which goes back to 2000. Their 34 completions are also the fewest.   The Viking's defence has been shaky, but with the Bears' issues on offence, that might not matter. Kirk Cousins, meanwhile, has the pieces around him to be successful here. The Vikings rank sixth in ESPN's pass block win rate metric, and it's hard to see the Bears having an answer for Justin Jefferson, who's coming off of a 10-catch, 147-yard performance against the Saints. The pick: Vikings (-7) Seattle Seahawks at New Orleans Saints (-5.5) I thought this Seahawks offence was going to stink. I thought we'd look back at Week 1 like it was a cute little moment before they came back down to earth. Yet, four games in, the Seahawks rank second in EPA per drive and fourth in offensive success rate. Last week's performance against the Lions was the best we've seen by an offence in terms of EPA per drive all season. Quarterback Geno Smith looked comfortable all game long, and Rashaad Penny gashed the Lions for 151 rushing yards. The Saints have a much better defence than the Lions, but they seem to make game-changing mistakes every week. Seattle's defence has been the worst in the NFL in terms of EPA per drive, so maybe this is a get-right game for the Saint's offence. But I feel good taking the points here. The pick: Seahawks (+5.5) Detroit Lions at New England Patriots (-3.5) As of this writing, we don't know who's playing quarterback for the Patriots. Mac Jones was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice. If he can't go, it'll be rookie Bailey Zappe making his first career start after replacing an injured Brian Hoyer last week. The Lions offence has been legitimately impressive. They're averaging a league-best 34.5 points per game. Even without wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and running back D'Andre Swift last week, they piled up 520 yards against the Seahawks. Unfortunately for Detroit, they have the NFL's worst defence, according to DVOA. This is a tough game. It wouldn't surprise me to see Bill Belichick put together a game plan that flusters Jared Goff (after all, he's done it before). But given New England's uncertainty at quarterback, combined with what the Lions have shown offensively so far this season, I'll ride with Detroit. The pick: Lions (+3.5) Miami Dolphins at New York Jets (+3) Teddy Bridgewater gets the start at quarterback, as Tua Tagovailoa remains in the concussion protocol following last week's head injury on Thursday night and while the NFL and NFLPA continue their review on how Tagovailoa's concussion evaluation was handled in Week 3.   The Jets are 2-2, but their offence could have a tough time here. Quarterback Zach Wilson, who returned last week after missing much of the preseason and the first three games with a knee injury, is now dealing with an ankle injury, and the Dolphins rank second in pass rush win rate. I'm looking forward to some fun reps between Jets rookie corner Sauce Gardner and Dolphins receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. But I don't think New York's offence will move the ball consistently enough to pull off the upset. The pick: Dolphins (-3) Los Angeles Chargers at Cleveland Browns (+2.5) Despite a loss last week to the Falcons, the Browns' run game once again looked incredible. Nick Chubb led the way as Cleveland ran for 177 yards. The Browns offence has been efficient through four games with Jacoby Brissett at quarterback. Defensively, they can't stop the run, but the Chargers have the 30th-ranked rushing offence, per DVOA. Defensive end Myles Garrett returned to practice Wednesday after missing last week's game due to injuries sustained in a car crash. This feels like a spot where the Browns can control the game with their rushing attack, and if Garrett plays on Sunday, the Chargers could face serious issues protecting Justin Herbert. The pick: Browns (+2.5) Dallas Cowboys at Los Angeles Rams (-5.5) I thought the Cowboys were cooked after the Dak Prescott injury. I was wrong. They've won three in a row, and Dallas' defence has held opponents under 20 points in every game this season. As for the Rams, it's early, but the Allen Robinson II signing ($15.5 million per year with $30.25 million guaranteed!) is shaping up to be a disaster. He has nine catches for 95 receiving yards. There have been 62 wide receivers who have run at least 100 routes this season. Among that group, Robinson ranks 61st in yards per route run. The Rams allowed seven sacks in their loss Monday night to the 49ers. Now they have to face Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence. I'll take the points. The pick: Cowboys (+5.5) Philadelphia Eagles at Arizona Cardinals (+5.5) The biggest rivalry in American sports right now is Kliff Kingsbury vs. the play clock. Every half of every game, the play clock nears zero, the Cardinals call timeout, and Kyler Murray and Kingsbury yell at each other. In a world filled with uncertainty, it's one of the only things we can count on as a society.   This is an “any given Sunday” game. There's no real reason to think the Cardinals should win. The Eagles are the better coached team and the more talented team. Their offensive line dominated last week in a win over the Jaguars. They're the only remaining undefeated team and are second in the NFL with a +44 point differential. If you played this game out 100 times, the Eagles would more often than not win by double digits. But football is weird. Murray thrives in chaos. Turnovers swing games. The Eagles have some injuries, and they've been shaky on special teams. It's conceivable that they look past the Cardinals and ahead to their big Week 6 matchup against the Cowboys. But given what we've seen from these teams so far this season, I'm not going to be the one predicting that will happen. The pick: Eagles (-5.5) San Francisco 49ers at Carolina Panthers (+6.5) Every once in a while, I'll look at a game and think: How could anyone possibly take THAT side? This game, with this line, qualifies. The Panthers are 1-3 and have lost 10 of their last 11 games going back to last year. Baker Mayfield ranks 32nd in EPA per pass play. No caveats are necessary. This team stinks. And now the 49ers come to town boasting what looks to me like the best defence in the NFL. Offensively, we know that Kyle Shanahan is going to make sure that Jimmy Garoppolo isn't asked to do too much. We also know that Shanahan will be conservative with his in-game decision-making. Still, it's hard to even come up with a scenario where the Panthers are competitive. But one of my rules for game-picking is: If it looks too easy, take the other side. So, here we go. What could go wrong? The pick: Panthers (+6.5) Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens (-3) For the reasons outlined in the video below, I think John Harbaugh made the right call going for the touchdown on fourth down against the Bills last week—even though the Ravens ended up losing. Having said that, one challenge Harbaugh faces is making sure his players understand why he's doing what he's doing, especially when his unorthodox decisions don't work out. Last week, cornerback Marcus Peters was livid with Harbaugh, and the coach will have to manage that type of thing going forward.   The Bengals are coming off a Thursday night win against the Dolphins. I'm not convinced that they've solved all their problems, but they handled the Ravens last year, winning both games by a combined score of 82-38. I know it's a different Ravens team, but this feels like a coin-flip game. I'm taking the points. The pick: Bengals (+3) Las Vegas Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs (-7.5) Version 2.0 of the Chiefs offence without Tyreek Hill is off to a pretty good start. Here's where Kansas City ranks in a number of different offensive categories: EPA per drive: 1st Points per drive: 1st Points per game: 2nd Success rate: 3rd Last week, against a good Bucs defence, Patrick Mahomes made plays inside of the structure and outside of the structure, the Chiefs ran the ball well, and Andy Reid pulled out his usual tricks in the red zone. Mahomes leads all quarterbacks in EPA per pass play through four games. The Raiders, meanwhile, ran for 212 yards and got their first win of the Josh McDaniels era last week against the Broncos. Their three losses came by a combined 13 points. The Raiders aren't a great team, but they're a competitive one. I think they'll be able to move the ball well enough to keep this one close. The pick: Raiders (+7.5)
