In 2015, Jimmy, Lan and Conrad Sansone launched The Normal Brand, a fashion company focused on easy, comfortable clothing suitable for both workdays and weekends. In the nine years since, without outside funding, the brothers have opened 11 stores — in cities including Nashville and Indianapolis — and entered partnerships with retailers including Nordstrom and Von Maur. The Normal Brand, which is based in St. Louis, now sells in 500 stores nationwide. Among the brand's differentiators are its proprietary ultra-soft fabric, Puremeso, and its on-call influencer network — Sansone family members, including Lan, have large social followings and are regularly featured in brand marketing. The Normal Brand has seen 40% annual revenue growth since its launch, Jimmy Sansone said on the Glossy Podcast. Also on the podcast, Jimmy and Lan Sansone discuss The Normal Brand's strategies for fueling growth, navigating challenges and maintaining a “humble, hungry and smart” team. HYDAN is an open format turntable DJ based out of Kansas City. HYDAN grew up with a background in music, teaching himself how to play the piano at a very young age. HYDAN went on to play piano professionally at local department stores such as Nordstrom's and Von Maur when he was in high school and early into college until he discovered his passion for DJing while studying at the University of Kansas. As a classically trained pianist, Hydan wanted to base his DJ name around a classical composer. He chose Franz Joseph Haydn as his inspiration. He Changed the spelling of Haydn's name to how it is correctly pronounced...Hydan. You'll notice on his logo the piano keys and the DJ record. 9 years ago In Lawrence, HYDAN got his start DJing at Bullwinkles Bar where he helped build huge followings to what has become one of the most popular bars in the city. To pursue his dream of DJing full-time, Hydan moved back to Kansas City and the rest is history. Currently Hydan is the official DJ for the Kansas City Royals and Sporting Kansas City. Growing up Hydan always dreamed of playing for the Royals, and now he actually gets to live out that dream from behind the turntables. Hydan can be seen in Right Field above Rivals Sports Bar at the Royals in between innings hyping up the crowds at Kauffman Stadium. At Sporting KC, Hydan performs in the bowl during pregame and halftime, and then plays the Post Game Victory Celebration in the Budweiser Brewhouse! Not only Does Hydan do events for The Royals and Sporting KC but he also does various work for the Kansas City Chiefs with Icon Event Group and Steve Serrano. Whether it is The Chiefs Style Lounge, The Chiefs 5K, or spinning at the Season Ticket Members Tent during Pregame at Arrowhead Stadium. Along with the Kansas City sports teams, you can find Hydan performing at many popular bars and clubs in Kansas City. He holds several residencies from bars like Society and Westport Ale House, to Aura Nightclub in Midtown. In addition to being involved in the club scene, HYDAN is heavily involved in the Wedding Scene, Corporate World, and DJing Charitable Events. You can find him performing frequently for Building Hope For Autism, the BMA Foundation, The Victory Project and Noah's Bandage Project Charities. Hydan has received several nominations from the Pitch and Kansas City Magazine as the Best Club DJ and Wedding DJ in Kansas City. Hydan strives to being one of the most versatile DJ's in the metro area. There's never an event he wants to say no to and he has the ability to create the perfect vibe for crowds of all ages, effortlessly moving between genres to ensure everyone has something they can get up and dance to.
This is Stephen Schmidt from the Gazette digital news desk and I'm here with your update for Tuesday, October 4. Tuesday will be one more day with a high in the seventies before it cools down a bit the rest of the week. According to the National Weather Service, on Tuesday it will be mostly sunny in the Cedar Rapids area, with a high near 76 degrees. A south wind of 5 to 15 mph will gust as high as 20 mph. On Tuesday night it will be mostly cloudy, with a low of around 52 degrees. The wind will calm to a gentle breeze by day's end. The state has agreed to pay a North Liberty couple nearly $4 million after their almost 2-year-old son died in 2018 from an undiagnosed strep infection following days of visits to University of Iowa-affiliated clinics and facilities. The State Appeal Board on Monday unanimously approved a $3.99 million settlement with Scott and Melissa Keating, who filed their suit in 2019. The family's concerns started on February 15, 2018, when Jack Keating — who was just days away from his second birthday — came down with a fever and raspy breathing. According to the couple's lawsuit, over the next 3 days the family saw several different UIHC providers from UI Quick Care, to Pediatric Associates, to the UIHC emergency department. Despite the child's worsening condition, none of the doctors diagnosed him correctly with what would end up being a fatal case of strep throat. Jack Keating died on the morning of February 19. The Keatings in their lawsuit accused UIHC and its employees of negligence and failure to, among other things, properly assess, examine, test, diagnose and treat their son in a timely manner. The Iowa City Marketplace was purchased for just under $14.3 million by a Tennessee-based company focused on redeveloping shopping centers. CORE Realty Holdings of California sold the shopping center in late July to Brookwood Capital Advisors. A not-yet-disclosed chain store is anticipated to move into the vacant space that formerly housed Von Maur and Lucky's Market once a lease is finalized. The shopping center, formerly known as Sycamore Mall, is on Sycamore Street in southeast Iowa City. The shopping center was rebranded in 2013. The rebranding was intended to provide more areas for social interaction and turn the area into a social space by bringing together dining, entertainment and mixed use. Brookwood Capital Advisors focuses on finding empty sites, leasing out the spaces and “setting the sites up for long-term success,” according to the group's website. After this year approving controversial utility-scale solar projects near Coggon and Palo while turning aside recommendations from their staff for a moratorium, the Linn County Board of Supervisors voted Monday on its first consideration to pause any more at least until the end of the year. County staff has requested the moratorium in order to better refine the guidelines for the implementation of solar projects in Linn County. The county said a three-month moratorium would provide a structure with check-ins on progress. The Dec. 31 deadline also would allow the current Board of Supervisors to decide on an extension before a new board is sworn in this January after the November elections.

"I had to plan ahead in terms of if I will be selling this business. I need to make sure that my business is not only on Etsy and Amazon because I don't believe it looks good if you want to sell a business to only have online stores and you don't own the customers, you don't have their email, it's not your customer base. It's Etsy's or Amazon's customers. I wanna grow my customer base so that I'm able to make those plans if I need to at some point, like selling this business."–Maria Laurin, Founder of Willow and Bee and Host of the Handmade CEO podcastIn this episode, Ben Schneider and Maria Laurin talk about how to start and grow a niche product on Etsy and Amazon, the operational side of a seasonal business, the challenges of growing a small business as a solopreneur and a full-time parent, and the #1 breakthrough moment that increased her sales.EPISODE NOTES:Maria Laurin is a small business owner and a podcaster. She specializes in creating and selling faith-based jewelry and has been podcasting since February 2020. She created her jewelry business, Willow and Bee, while her kids were in school. She's currently selling her products at a national retail store Von Maur, Etsy, and Amazon Handmade. Although her niche is very seasonal, she has come to enjoy the break that this gives her. During her off-season, she's able to pursue helping others through her podcast–the Handmade CEO.Social media works differently for different niches. For Maria Laurin, her time and energy are put more into face-to-face business communications advantages. With a background in Social Media Marketing, Retail Management and Merchandising, she brings almost 20 years of marketing experience to the table. Amanda has worked for Von Maur, Anthropologie, AmericasMart Atlanta, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, and TalentStream, and owned her own children's boutique clothing line, Goat & Lulu, that she designed, created, and marketed. The Magnolia Marketing Group allows for the small business owner to concentrate on the day-to day of their business and their own priorities, and works with the owner in a collaborative manner, to grow the business with creative and modern marketing ideas. “try not to get discouraged, learn as much as you can… immerse yourself in the industry that you are in as much as you can. Read books listen to podcasts, get involved, start networking even if it's just going out to lunch or meeting your co-workers for happy hour or something. There's going to be things that you can learn along the way but the more you know ahead of time and the more prepared you can be I think the better off you will be for success in your industry… Just do it scared. Everybody's afraid, everybody scared, everybody's doubting themselves but you do it anyway”…[Listen for More] Click Here for Show Notes To Listen or to Get the Show Notes go to https://wp.me/p6Tf4b-6IA
