Even in high school, he felt drawn to plastic surgery, combining his natural creativity, spatial awareness, and dexterity, a skill set that made the field feel like it chose him.In 1999, Dr. Daniel moved to Eugene, Oregon, to open his private practice, introducing advanced techniques to the area. He later expanded with his med spa, The Spa Side, and soon after, The Guy Side, offering treatments specifically for men. Empower does education, emotional support, and matching for people looking to donate their embryos or those looking to receive donor embryos. Takeaways Embryo donation organizations provide emotional and mental health support to both donors and recipients. Children born through embryo donation may have relationships with their genetic siblings, and the language used to describe these relationships can vary. Normalizing embryo donation as a family building option is crucial to reducing stigma and increasing awareness. Educating the world about unique family building options, including embryo donation, is necessary to support children and families.

This week is a short but sweet episode, starting off with a weekend recap of Libby's anniversary dinner at Limani in Chestnut Hill. Laura has us all laughing about her story about getting pulled over after peeing her pants driving back from Boston!  And to top it off, she had a full CO2 mask on after visiting Jenny Grande at Meredith Lane Aesthetics for a Moxi laser treatment, a Biopeel and a little BBL around her chin. We touch on kids in sports and some fun upcoming plans. We discuss a few "hot takes" on whether you should you be tracking your partner, and answered a question from one of our listeners about concerns over her boyfriends frequent late night outings. Liz tells us all about how she recently discovered a SCID advocate, @bekaherway, and is very interested in becoming a bone marrow transplant through @bethematch, which could potentially save lives or give longevity to those in need

Jen Vesbit was a guest on the show previously to discuss Empower with Moxi.  Empower is comprised of a group of three women who have all been embryo donors or have donated embryos themselves. They decided years ago that in addition to their families and current jobs, they wanted to help others build their families with the assistance of embryo donation.    From the time I met them years ago at the annual conference for the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, I knew they were going to do great things, and they have.  In addition to their support programs, they have just launched a matching program called, Moxie Matching.  You can find them at https://www.empowerwithmoxi.com/moxi-matching.  These three lovely ladies bring their intellect, passion and value system to this one-of-a-kind program.   So, what is embryo donation?  How do people find each other? What does it feel like to watch a child grow in another family who is a full genetic sibling to your child? How do you maintain a good relationship with the person you donate to, or who donates to you?   And what about the kids?  There is so much to consider.    In this episode we dive into some of these questions and more. I'm confident that you'll be amazed by the answers.  Jen shares her story of donating an embryo to a single woman. She tells us why she chose this person, how they created plans for their relationship, and so much more.   If you are considering embryo donation, you will want to listen to this episode. It's full of life lessons and new ways to think about donor conception.    Enjoy.     If you are interested in any of the topics discussed in this episode... This week's conversation is a journey, a little metaphysical, a little brass tacks life advice, no doubt this week's guest will send you! A resident of Long Beach California since 1999, Tracy Emiko Ugai created a mosaic by picking up pieces that work and discarding what doesn't to build the colorful life she has today. Best known for her roller skating and wellness brand Basics of Happy, her impact as a visible Long Beach skate community member, and storied career in action sports marketing and PR (for iconically California brands such as Vans, Quicksilver, and Moxi )  precede her. Tracy regales us with tales of her roller skating roots, which started with Long Beach DIY parking lot roller derby in all of its scrappy down and dirty charm. She also takes us back to park skating before its boom and the exciting collaborative phase of discovery the community was in before the days widely available tutorials and park hardware. The draw Tracy feels towards wellness is in no way out of left field, in part born of the dissonance she felt between the marketing (and social media) presence she crafted and real life, she found herself hungry for a more grounded perspective. She was evolving and wanting out of the corporate gig life, and wanted to leave space for healing herself, and on the way she found herself positioned to pivot towards a path working wellness. In the process she found herself back in roller skating community and exploring the intersections between movement and healing. Tracy generously shares the lessons that very much influence her business and her brand today. Applying her life experience, she tackles issues like facing burnout, overcoming self-doubt, redirecting hyper focus as a neurodivergent business owner, and meditative power of roller skating! Above all else she highlights how relinquishing control in creating her own business allowed the road to unwind before her in unexpected and miraculous ways. Not to mention,  we get granular about her foray into developing roller skates for the first time for her very own company, and how collaboration in community are very much the engine behind Basics of Happy. Get ready to nerd out!Suffice to say, this interview is a veritable treasure trove featuring slices of roller skate history, personal wisdom, healing, and being in business in roller skating today.
