Our summary today works with the article titled Systems thinking as a paradigm shift for sustainability transformation from 2022 by N. Voulvoulis, T. Giakoumis, C. Hunt, V. Kioupi, N. Petrou, I. As the most important things, I would like to highlight 3 aspects: Systems thinking is essential for addressing the interconnected nature of global sustainability challenges, moving beyond traditional, isolated approaches. Effective implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals requires transformative strategies that recognize the interdependencies among these goals. A paradigm shift in policy, education, and societal behaviour is crucial for achieving true sustainability, focusing on holistic solutions rather than symptomatic treatments. This is a far more challenging task than business as usual; it requires systems thinking for understanding the conditions that generate and propagate sustainability challenges, moving away from the reductionist and anthropocentric thinking that created them in the first place. Taking a systems approach to addressing these challenges has been gaining currency with academics and policymakers alike, and here we make the case for holistic, integrated, and interdisciplinary thinking that challenges assumptions and worldviews, crucially based on public participation and engagement, to create the enabling conditions for sustainability to emerge. System transformations require interconnected changes to technologies, social practices, business models, regulations and societal norms, an intentional process designed to fundamentally alter the components and structures that cause the system to behave in its current unsustainable ways, a paradigm shift enabling the transition to sustainability. Happy Women In Horror Month! January 12th, 2018 was the 2nd Annual Women In Horror Panel at the Macabre Faire Film Festival in Ronkonkoma, NY. Featuring Director/Producer Lindsay Serrano, Actress/Director Angie Hansen, Director/SFX Artist Shiva Rodriguez, Cinematographer/Director Jill Poisson, and Actress/Producer Lowry B. Fawley, and hosted by Manny Serrano, the panel discusses many of the ups and downs of being a woman working in the horror industry. A new year has come and we're back (after a break) with two new stories. This evening's first bit of microfiction is by Daniel S. Liuzzi. The title of his worrisome little tale is "The Clock Struck Twelve".  He let me know the word count was 666, very clever of you to create a story fitting that length Daniel!   Our second is by the Author Yani.  She's an Amazon best-selling author of five 5-star novels of five 5 star novels.  Her "A Thug's Redemption" series, landed her in the top 20 of African-American Fiction-Urban Life category.  This is her first foray into horror and after reading her 3 story collection "Terrors from Beyond", I knew I wanted to bring her work to the podcast. So that said, tonight you'll hear "If I Should Die Before I Wake". Many thanks to both Daniel S. Liuzzi and The Author Yani for allowing us to share their work! You'll be hearing more from Yani next month, which is Women in Horror month.  I'll be bringing you frightening fare from some wickedly talented women (and men) featuring some very memorable female characters. Quick quiz: What country has the 3rd largest Twitter population in the world, and the 4th largest Facebook population? If you guessed Indonesia, then you’ve been paying close attention to the exploding popularity of social media there. Its capital, Jakarta has more people tweeting daily than Tokyo, London, or New York. In fact, Indonesia has even been called the “social media capital of the world”. The leading online fashion website in Indonesia is called Berrybenka, and it sells a variety of clothing shoes, bags, and beauty products to a mostly-female audience. With only single-digit percentage credit card penetration in the country, most merchandise is sold C.O.D., or cash on delivery, even if it’s ordered online. Danu Wicaksana (pronounced “Dah-noo Wih-chak-san-ah”) is a managing director at Berrybenka, overseeing a customer service team that manages nearly 5,000 daily inquiries from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Line (a Japanese social media platform), plus SMS, email and live chat. His team takes a unique approach to servicing customers on Twitter, where many responses begin with a traditional greeting and then the customer’s handle – meaning every customer service response is tweeted out to all of Berrybenka’s 15,000 Twitter followers. “If there is a similar problem, then hopefully other people can see what has been answered before,” Danu says. A separate team of agents manages Hijabenka.com, Berrybenka’s sister site which sells Muslim fashion items. Though separate, the sites take the same approach to customer service. Agents should be “making emotional connections with the customers” and feeling “like they own the company,” Danu says, and the strategy is to understand the customer’s preferences in social media and be willing to open up new channels if there is demand. Danu was kind enough to take some time out of his morning (evening in the U.S.) to talk to us about his organization’s philosophy and tactics in the “social media capital of the world”.
