The Techscopo news series podcast - where we talk about tech and game news with itty-bitty views. Between indie title updates to airplane toilet technology, we're looking to add a bit of variety to your news day - just because we can.
Hello again and welcome to another glorious week! Today we’re talking about Monster Hunter World: Iceborne getting some much-needed patches, ye olde Combat Evolved has a closed beta, dumb cars can become autonomous cars with a few small caveats, AR contact lenses, and much more! Thanks for joining us
Come one, come all to post-CES content out in the wild this week as we dug deep to find things amidst all that might have gotten glazed over. On the gaming side, we’re still getting over top 10’s and top 12’s of this and that over the past year, but here we are looking at mods, demakes, and a lengthy discussion over our abundant disappointment in Capcom over their PC released of Iceborne…
We're back this week after the holidays to get back on routine (trust me, it's not just another New Year's resolution that'll statistically fizzle out). To get back into the swing of things, it's just going to be a BS week with talks on things we've seen crop up in the past couple of weeks we've been away, things definitely coming up throughout 2020, things projected to come up 2020, and just a whole lot of thoughts in-between because that's just what we do here. So sit back, have a listen, and we'll see you for more regular news next week while you get used to remembering that while it's a new year, we're all just the same folks here at Techscopo.
Welcome to a new episode of pre-holiday slowness! That isn’t going to stop us though as we tear through the news we can find and have a fun discussion about it ranging from big butt updates to solar powered headphones. We had a bit of a hiccup with the audio around the 12 minute mark, so hopefully you won’t notice it too much – but either way, have happy holidays and we’ll see you for a rowdy one next week!
Howdy! Thanks for joining us for another week of tech and game news as the holiday draws even closer! Today we talk about influential gadgets of the decade, Surgeon Simulator 2 appearing to have cooperative gameplay, Nintendo going on the offensive against Pokémon Sword and Shield leakers, headphone warnings for when you walk out into oncoming traffic again, robots that de-weed and plant your crops, and more. It’s a bit of a slower week this week as the year starts to wrap up but that isn’t going to stop us from talking about some of the odd and fresh because we’re Techscopo!
It’s been a couple of weeks but we’re back for another long-overdue BS week! Yes, it’s the holidays and yes, it’s been one of those weeks where we didn’t spend a lot on the researching this week so join us for general BS’ing about previously talked about crowd-funded projects, some of the games we’ve had time to play, discussion on all the things we DIDN’T buy during Black Friday/Cyber Monday, and more! We’ll be back on schedule next week and the week after before we’ll be off again for another holiday, but then we’ll start the New Year’s right with yet another properly scheduled program! So as always, thanks for joining us
Another week closer to 30 and we’ve got more news about Nintendo and their subscription obsessions, Pokémon talks, holograms that make us feel closer to the sci-fi future of our dreams, and ‘blade curtains’ (my brain hurts okay?) All that and more at Techscopo! Just a heads up too, we won’t host an episode next week due to some holiday stuffs but we’ll be back the following week! Until then, have a great couple of weeks!
This week we’re talking about 4 day work weeks, impending sales records, Google AI learning tools, a way to better check your discounts during the holiday sales season, and more! Tis the season!
Another week and it’s a bit on the slow side, but it doesn’t stop us from the fun talks on out-there news like poop research and sending pics of your poop to research for science! Ever wonder how some of these game developers come up with some of the intense and sometimes wacky sound effects you find in your favorite games? Well 343 goes into at least a bit of it and at least some of it involves pug noises. Sprinkle in some expensive video game sculptures, beta game mode dates, car-sensing corner tech, and more and you’ve got some Techscopo news!
After our long hiatus, we’re back to the routine schedule! It’s a little on the long side, but we had a lot to catch up on
We’re back and we’ve got some random ones this week! Timeslip Softworks says they’re hopefully, completely done with their game Vigilantes – everything’s so “live-service’ these days, it’s hard to believe games actually finish. Speaking of games that finish, what about game series’? Well, Scott Cawthon says NAY with a new FNAF AR game coming out this year. What does space, aluminum, Styrofoam, and saran wrap have in common? Nothing of note, but scientists have found a way to work them together to make another renewable energy option! Scientists have also found a way to inject fake leaves to make medicinal drugs. All that and more with Techscopo news!
Welcome to another week where there’s something about cats, dogs, or both and the tech and games that surround them! There’s also something about charity, exclusivity, and both in there as well! PR? Ultimatums? Just overall good causes? It’s sounds like real food for thought, so why don’t you grab a slice and have someone power level your gaming stats at the same time? All that and a bag of breadsticks – this… is Techscopo!
Here we are again with another week of random BS talk about news throughout the week including stuff we heard from Gamescom, our excitement about Halo and their testing of Reach’s Firefight mode on PC this past week, discussion about Facebook’s release and limitations of their clear history tool, Riot’s settlement of the current class action lawsuit, and more. We plan on doing these BS weeks every last Sunday of the month, so let us know if you like what we’re doing with this, or if you prefer the more structured scheduled programming, or whatever in general – we’d love to hear from you!
Welcome to another week of tech and games where we talk about exclusivity, 7-year-old mods hitting the finish line, AI missiles, and more. Is that your bartender? Is that a robot? Is it both? Companies collecting data say it isn’t enough anymore – let’s go for your sweat, or maybe how your joints bend. Should we embrace our robot/AI overlords? Should we run? Try just listening to Techscopo for now, we’ll see how it goes
With all the hub-bub on Steam’s privilege escalation exploit, it looks like a patch has made its way to Steam Beta Client users, while if you have a Nintendo Switch instead, and go to the University of California Irvine, you may be looking at scholarships for those ‘smashing’ Super Smash Bros. skills. If, instead, you’re not into gaming at all but would rather rock back and forth in your rocking chair knitting all day long, well STAND ASIDE… there’s a new AI in town ready to automate the task. Dry-eyes, smart shirts, and robot tails – these were the ingredients chosen to make the perfect Techscopo episode!
We’re back after being gone for a week, but the news doesn’t stop! Crazy indie titles coming out of the woodworks, mods that defy physics (and lifespans), everything’s out of beta (okay, not everything but still…), bubble wrap isn’t fun anymore (but works better), AI can tell when you’re cutting in line, and so much more. Thanks for continuing to stick with us!
Just a week of us BS’ing about the things we love to talk about – games and tech. Stick around with us as we chat about some of the random stuff we saw covered in the space throughout the week while we wrap up a birthday week for the birthday boy – Andrew! Whether it’s celebrating with robot bartenders pouring us the perfect drink to celebrate, whether the next big gaming purchase should be a Switch or a Playstation (or both??), Star Citizen reaching even higher crowd-funding goals, and more, we’re still talking news, but we’re letting our hair down this week. It’s also a shorter chunk of time this week because we REALLY wanted to play some Oculus Quest co-op games before I had to go and do more work, so just chillax with us as we speculate! Lastly, we won’t be having an episode next week because of some prior engagements, so you’ll see us again August 4th – stay connected folks!
Welcome to another week where this time we dive more into Steam Lab’s current active experiments, talk about a new drag and drop game development engine Manu, prototype smart glass that can read numbers on the wall, more retro handheld consoles, and so much more!
Another week and we’re back to the format! Play games for hours in VR or get massages while you wonder the possible consequences. Don’t think about that too much though while you taste test your wine for urine – but wait! Now you don’t have to – with IBM’s future “e-tongue” which can tell you everything inside your liquids (including things you didn’t want to know about). Thinking about building a home? Well, just save all your bottles and turn them into your walls, the future of home building with recycled plastics starts today! Games while you drive, irritating UI for your eyes, it’s Brave and ongoing – Techscopo news!
We spent a while doing server/firewall maintenance this week and we got caught up on general life stuff, but the show must go on (and consistency is key)! No show notes, no squared off topics, no research – we’re just a couple of best buds chatting about the things we love, games and tech! We pull up some random topics we recall coming across throughout the week, reflect on life, listen to random cicadas in the distance… it’s just a grab bag and we’re having fun! Come join us
Chinese Parents now write in English while Nintendo shuts down another fan project (to nobody’s surprise). Don’t worry if that’s got you down, because you’re about to be Kitten’d and smitten with a new VR title just hot off early access; play with the kittens or feel their wrath! Hopefully you don’t lose connection while petting those digital furballs… maybe you should switch to LiFi instead! With all these LED light waves and “bendy” GPS waves, you should have minimal interference, so strap in, fasten tight with your snail glued straps, and get ready for the news – Techscopo news!
We’re back into it this week with game updates for Starbound, more info on Monster Hunter World Iceborne DLC, peripherals that you can drink from while you play (in theory), and some more futurology to look forward to (someday maybe). If you wanna feel a little like Batman, Sonarax might let you use sound waves to build local maps in locales near you, and while you’re at it, you can try your best Batman voice on a new Speech2Face AI to see if it builds a face profile that matches the Bat himself
Another week doing oversaturated news like a bullet-hell with all that E3 coverage flying around everywhere. The GTA 5 casino that’s been closed for 6 years now might finally be opening while retro game console Kickstarters are coming out of the wood works – each with their own schtick from light gun controllers to more games added to the pile. Bulletproom foam, Walmart store to fridge deliveries, air conditioning drink coolers, it’s a rollercoaster of weirdness this week with Techscopo news.
This week we talk about a game console that lets kids play while they code, but if you’re too old for that and ready to tie the knot, it’s time to take a trip to Japan and get official - Pokémon wedding official that is! But before you run, you gotta walk, and soon you’ll have smarter crosswalks to get you across that street faster. Look both ways though! You might see Honda’s new car without side view mirrors – the camera probably saw you first. Flying cars, dirty toothbrushes, we got it all here… at Techscopo news! Oh, and a small edit - Andrew totally got me on the programming language dates - C++ WAS an 80s language, COBOL was way wrong... that was a 50s/60s language... and here I was blabbing on about being the coding guy ;)
We’re back after a week hiatus primarily caused from us fiddling around with firewalls and whatnot, so what a great time to talk about occupying yourself with gamification! Don’t worry! I’m sure industry isn’t trying to manipulate metric rewards or anything… something, something Pavlovian law. But between new mods to make NPCs poop, to DLC that adds dogs, to games about taking pictures of dogs - you should have PLENTY to do! Also, now we’ve got “buckle to drive”… apparently click-it-or-ticket isn’t enough? Or maybe those horrifying recreations of injuries incurred by seatbelt survivors had they not been wearing it? In any case, Chevy’s trying to encourage more people to wear their seatbelts. Between that, car AI that adds human variability, to exercise apps that have real coaches nagging you day-in to day-out to get off that couch and lift some weights… eventually we’re going to be the healthiest and safest society that could ever be imagined. Any day now. Yup. Or maybe this is just Techscopo news!
For those that had heard about this upcoming episode and were expecting a special guest this week, I’m sorry to say, will be disappointed; scheduling and long road-trip times got in the way. But you know what never gets in the way? New and upcoming farm simulation games! But maybe you don’t think that way because you fall into the statistical research done by the ESA for this year? Maybe you like everything on tiny screens like over 60% of the gaming population? Maybe you long for that nostalgia of old Pokémon games on those tiny Gameboy screens? It’s okay, your brain’s wired for that! But you know what you’re not wired for? Excessive CO2 emissions, and that’s where YouTube could lend us a hand. Oh, and Ford’s doing stuff with VR. All that and more on Techscopo news!
No matter who you are, you’ve probably played Solitaire at least once, but have you ever tried Colossal Cave Adventure? This is just one of the 2 other games on top of Solitaire that made it into the Video Games Hall of Fame this year. Also, is Fallout 4 not anime enough for you? Then download a new mod that changes your NPCs into cute, expressive, anime characters – definitely nuclear wasteland compatible. But maybe you’re hungry and need to go to the store but hate waiting in long lines for checkout so you decide to eat Doritos and Pizza Rolls instead. Wait! Before you do, if you live in the UK, there might be a grocery shop just for you! No checkout lines and an app to scan for your purchases makes the whole trip all the more seclusive and enticing! Maybe you feel guilty about driving there though, adding to all those CO2 emissions for your tasty homecooked meal. Don’t fret! Your AC unit of the future may offset that carbon footprint by absorbing CO2 more efficiently than trees and even make its own fuel! Is this the future? Are you dreaming? No, it’s just Techscopo News!
This week it’s all about the funky and weird! Do you play games? Of course you do. Tired of that lag and “jitteriness” when playing all those major FPS competitive games? Well Cox claims to have the solution for you – if… you happen to play on Windows PCs only and if… you want to pay $15 extra a month. Maybe you don’t want to play games and you want to make them. If you want to recreate that nostalgia experience from back in the 90s, try creating your vision on the newly released GB Studio and make the Gameboy game of your dreams! But while you’re longing for that past nostalgia fix, Ford’s looking to the future with fun, quirky “quality-of-life” upgrades on things other than vehicles – auto-braking carts, bed conveyer belts, and more. Sound interesting? Thinking about breaking out the wallet but worried it’s going to “brake” the bank? Start using Brave browser and get paid… kinda… to look at ads you might have otherwise chosen to block. All that and more at Techscopo!
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is still so far away… so why not play the first Bloodlines instead? But wait! Before you do, you better download VTMB: The Unofficial Patch to fix this buggy narrative masterpiece – good timing! It was just updated to version 10.3 with a ton more bugfixes. If that’s not old enough for you though, let’s take a step back to the 90s with Disc Creatures! Coming at the end of this year (is it still retro if it’s coming out in the future)? If this is all too much, maybe step outside… but if you’re not like me and live in the North, maybe it’s still snowing so look out! Snowflakes can charge batteries, so maybe they’re coming for you next! It might be safer to just drive around in your monthly Audi – are you dreaming? Did you buy it? No, you just subscribed to it! All that and more this week at Techscopo!
It’s been a while, but Monster Hunter news is back with the Spring festival just around the corner, coming with it, soon after, the Witcher content we’ve been craving for since the console release back in February. Also, if you’re a game designer, there’s a millionaire that wants your expertise for the next big, real-life battle royale on a private island with airsoft guns, food, and a chance to win 100k in European big ones. I wonder if there’ll be loot boxes too? Hmm…
We get a closer look at what the US Army is doing with Microsoft’s Hololens, but while you’re sitting on your much quieter airplane toilet thinking about that, you could pull out your phone and see all the wonderful Waze features making their way into Google maps (they let you turn off airplane mode after you get up in the after a while – don’t look at me like that)! Of course, we’re covering more – and yes, I mean ‘we’ because the man, the myth, the LEGEND is back so we’re back to the routine schedule! Speaking of which… have you ever tried sheep milk?
Kynseed lets you run your own blacksmith shop now in recent update and Steam library UI gets a massive overhaul this summer, all while Volvo questions whether its up to car manufacturers to affect human behavior and decision making with its new camera technologies.
Dwarf fortress gets graphics, Sniper Elite announcements, invasive ads on televisions, and coffee beans with lazy means - we've got the green light to go on Episode 3 of the Techscopo podcast. But what is this? Andrew's leaving me all by myself soon? Whatever will I do??
Between Kickstarter goals being reached, to gift bags, digital dog petting, and privacy controls - it sounds like a pretty wholesome week... but what about all those sniffles coming from Andrew??
Our first episode regarding the previous week's tech and video game news... and the mystery behind why Andrew's so crispy.
