Happy New Year, everyone! Hope you're back rested and energized for 2024! We are kicking off new beginnings with an old friend…the prolific film and television producer, Monica Levinson. Some of her impressive credits include BORAT, BRUNO, ZOOLANDER, DODGEBALL, Larry David's CLEAR HISTORY, Tara Miele's WANDER DARKLY, David Oyelowo's THE WATER MAN and Aaron Sorkin's THE TRIAL OF THE CHICAGO 7. Starting her career in broadcast news in her hometown of Washington, D.C., Monica transitioned into narrative storytelling by working with visionary directors including Alan J. Pakula and Sidney Lumet. She most recently produced OLD DADS, the Netflix comedy written, directed and starring Bill Burr which did really well on the platform when it dropped last October. On top of a busy producing career, she is also an executive board member of AMPAS, PGA, DGA, and on the leadership team for the Women's Production Society. Mentorship is very important to her and she certainly walks the walk. I count myself lucky to know her as an ally and a mentor. She's constantly giving back and she drops lots of gems during out chat, such as: Jobs that aren't exactly what you want to be doing can provide a foundation for the jobs you want Filmmaking is a collaboration - be prepared but remember you're not alone Working in production is still creative! Happy listening! -cg

Episode 30 - Alex is back-ish Alex is back this week and the episode is nothing short of explosive. Not like toe curling, eyes rolling back in your head explosive, but literal explosions. Alex’s new digs come with some unexpected side effects and the guys have a good laugh about it. The guys start off with their streaming picks this week. Opie starts it off with a review of the Larry David joint, Clear History on HBO. As per the usual, he picked something of quality that he would recommend to everyone. Next up, Kevin goes to Netflix and watches two things. First off, he takes a stumble down memory lane with El Camino, the Breaking Bad follow up film. He also watched the first episode of The Politician, the latest from show runner Ryan Murphy. Uncharacteristically, both shows get a recommendation from Kevin this week! Next, we join Alex in LA via Skype and he gives us a slight mixed review of the Joaquin Phoenix film, The Sisters Brothers. With it co-starring John C Reilly, it has to be a comedy, right? Right?!? Listen and find out, but it does come away with a recommendation from Alex Over on Amazon Prime, Pete watches The Image Revolution. After a quick hazing over the name, he quickly wins over the gang by appealing to their deep nerd roots. And in some form of miracle, the gang agrees that Pete made a solid pick for once. On top of that, the entire gang finished a week where they can all recommend what they watched! After the break, the guys discuss a handful of recent movie trailers: The Jungle Cruise, Onward, and Dolittle. The reviews are a little mixed with varying degrees of interest. After that, the guys, with Alex back, take one last run at The Room by discussing the film, The Disaster Artist. During this discussion, we finally find Alex coming around to the appeal of the original film. All in all, this night was a BLAST. That pun will really make sense if you just listen to the show. Facebook debuted a makeover for its main app on Tuesday and said the company is making a major shift in how it's run.CEO Mark Zuckerberg kicked off the company's two-day developer conference with a keynote address in front of about 5,000 attendees in San Jose, California, which revolved around his desire to make Facebook privacy-centric."I know we don't exactly have the strongest reputation on privacy right now, to put it lightly," said Zuckerberg, acknowledging skepticism around the company. "I am committed to doing this well."It's unclear if a new design and approach to privacy will usher in real change for the beleaguered company, which reaches more than 2 billion people around the world, or if it's just a new coat of paint. It could take some time to see if the changes make a noticeable difference."I'm sure we're going to keep unearthing old issues for a while, so it may feel like we're not making progress at first," said Zuckerberg. In addition to a new Facebook app design with a focus on groups, Facebook showed off a faster Messenger app that includes ways to watch videos together, and new features for Instagram, including fund-raising and shopping options. It also announced its newest Oculus VR headsets would be available in May.The company shared more news around its Facebook Dating feature, which was originally announced at F8 last year. The tool is undergoing testing in countries such as Colombia and Canada, and will roll out to 14 more countries today and to the United States later this year. People will be able to use their first name to set up a dating profile on the platform, but it won't be visible to friends and will not show up in News Feeds. The company announced a new dating option on Tuesday called "secret crush," which will let users create a private list of friends they're interested in dating. If two friends both put each other on their secret list, Facebook will alert them. The platform is also adding a feature called Make New Friends to connect users interested in meeting new people.Zuckerberg outlined six principles he said the company is focusing on going forward: private interactions, encryption, reduced permanence (meaning content and messages that disappear), safety, interoperability (being able to communicate across the company's different networks and platforms), and secure data storage (not storing user data in countries where it could be accessed, for example)."Over the next few years we are going to build more of our services around these ideas," said Zuckerberg. "This isn't just about building features — we need to change a lot of the different ways that we run this company today."Facebook has had a turbulent past year with a seemingly never-ending string of scandals touching on data privacy, security, election meddling, misinformation and hate speech. It has spent large amounts of money and energy trying to address the issues and repair its reputation. Last week, Facebook said it was setting aside $3 billion to put toward an expected $3 billion to $5 billion fine from the Federal Trade Commission over privacy violations.Zuckerberg is no stranger to trying to diffuse the company's problems. He has used media interviews, an appearance in front of Congress, and his own Facebook posts to repeatedly apologize for the company's mistakes and promise to do better. Now he is promising a new kind of company that is all about privacy, with some dating features thrown in for fun.Zuckberg and various Facebook executives announced a number of new features — some already here and others just in testing or conception phases. (They did not mention the Clear History tool, which has been delayed repeatedly since it was announced at F8 last year.) Here are some highlights.Facebook: Hold onto your hat, the Facebook logo is now a circle instead of a square, and the mobile app has switched from a mostly blue design to mostly white. The new app design, which will roll out Tuesday, is largely sur...

Also, if you’re a game designer, there’s a millionaire that wants your expertise for the next big, real-life battle royale on a private island with airsoft guns, food, and a chance to win 100k in European big ones. I wonder if there’ll be loot boxes too? Hmm…

M“Welcome to Episode Number 5 a part of series number 5. This series is all about my favorite apps. Today on the podcast, I will talk about one of my favorite apps but first, here is a little tech news for you. Tech News: Neutrogena's iPhone 'SkinScanner' Analyzes Pores, Moisture, Wrinkles https://www.pcmag.com/news/358329/neutrogenas-iphone-skinscanner-analyzes-pores-moisture “Neutrogena unveiled a new device called SkinScanner, which attaches to your iPhone and uses 12 LED lights, sensors, and a 30x magnification lens to analyze the health of your skin. The device, created in partnership with a startup called FitSkin, works in conjunction with a new app called Skin360. Together, the Skin360 app and SkinScanner device can "give users an in-depth understanding of their skin's condition and needs, customized advice to address those needs, plus a clear way to track and assess skin's progress over time," App: Waze Navigation & Live Traffic By Waze Inc Waze is available for iPhone and Android phone Waze is a navigation/GPS and traffic app. It uses crowd sourcing to distribute real time traffic data. This means that other drivers report wrecks, construction and other traffic issues. The apps will map your drive based on the fasted route at that exact moment. While driving on the route, the app will continue to check for shorter and faster routes. This app can save you much time and frustration. While using the app, you can also provide information about traffic issues you witness for other users. Tech Tip: Clearing the Cache Android: https://www.techspot.com/article/1407-android-performance-tweaks/ Most experts recommend that you keep 10-15 percent of your phone’s storage available at all times. Even if you have plenty of storage on your phone, you can improve the performance by removing junk and unused apps. To free up space, delete apps you do not use. You should also delete any videos and photos you do not want to save and move other photos and videos to cloud storage. After removing apps, photos and videos, if you need additional space, you can also clear the cache data from your phone. On an Android phone: Go to the storage section of your phone’s settings menu. From there, tap cached data and click clear or OK to wipe away the cache for every app. Often this can free several gigabytes of storage space. iPhone/iPad: On an iPad or iPhone, open the settings app. Scroll down to the fifth set of topics. Find “Safari” and tap it. Scroll down and tap “Clear History and Website Data” and then click “Clear History and Data”. Thanks for listening to Your App Lady today!
