I made my GDQ Commentary debut on Disaster Relief Done Quick, doing a part speedrun commentary and part voice actor interview for a run of TMNT: Shredder's Revenge. I got a new toy - a Philips CD-I, and yes, it also came with Those Games that you're thinking of. Steam has already complied with a California law saying you must disclose that you are merely licensing digital content, not purchasing it to keep. Google must open its Play Store to competitors and not take a 30% cut as a result of the Epic v. Google lawsuit. Microsoft has announced that Xbox will sell games directly on Android devices in November. Then we talk about Nintendo Alarmo and Tetris Forever.

Layoffs are happening everywhere in the gaming world, and it seems like it's happening to everyone. Palworld continues to dominate the internet with concurrent players and Pokemon Company looking to "Investigate" the game. Games Done Quick raises 2 million dollars for Charity! We play Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Last of Us Part 2 Remaster, and Go Mecha Ball. Craig puts up a 5 spot with highlights like Dogman, Aquaman, and Night Swim. Barry finally starts Reacher, and Craig watches Thanksgiving. Thanks for all the support, and enjoy your week, guys!
Awesome Games Done Quick 2024 raised over $2.5 Million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation! I was fortunate enough to be a host in-person for multiple games throughout the week, and I talk about my experience both behind the scenes as well as just attending the week long mini-convention in snowy Pittsburgh. Then we talk to Rob about all of the gaming news I missed, specifically the emergence of a game that wasn't known before I left for AGDQ - Palworld.
In this issue of Nerd Overload... we cover the Xbox Developer Direct (including Indiana Jones and the Great Circle), Palworld taking over, a dog in Games Done Quick, no She-Hulk Season 2, as well as mini-reviews of Being There, Atelier Ryza, Heroes of Wrestling 1999 AND MORE! Check it out!! We want to thank David Pencil for our original intro/outro. You can find more of his work at DavidPencil.com (https://www.davidpencil.com/). Hey! Do you like our logo? Game: The Last of Us Part II Remastered voor de PlayStation 5. Nieuw is de roguelike-modus No Return.

I'm going to be at TwitchCon 2023 as one of the hosts of Games Done Quick Express! Best Buy is going to discontinue selling physical copies of movies in 2024, and games might be next. CD Projekt has used AI to replace a deceased voice actor in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty with the family's consent. We play some clips of the 1992 ad campaign from AT&T "You Will", where Tom Selleck talks about future technologies that we all use today. Then we talk to Rob about TwitchCon and the difference between being "on" and "off" in the sense of stage presence.
Twice a year, gamers from around the world converge to showcase the very best in video games by playing them really, really fast. Games Done Quick is a biannual, weeklong marathon full of highs, lows, dreams, memes, and raising a metric s***ton of money for charity. Your favorite dogs went on a road trip to Summer Games Done Quick! Speedrunning is a phenomenon and the Dogcast is here to partake. I was one of the hosts for Summer Games Done Quick 2023, where we raised over $2.2million dollars for Doctors Without Borders! I talk about what a live in-person GDQ event is like for attendees, talk about why that donation amount is lower than it used to be, and why the event was a month earlier than it usually is. I also go through each speedrun I was a host for, as well as playing some of the pun donations I was fortunate enough to get to read while on stage.

I was a host at Awesome Games Done Quick 2023 Online, which raised over $2.6 Million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. SGDQ will take place the last week of May instead of the last week of June, but no word on venue yet. I go through all of the runs I hosted for this event, as well as some other runs that I enjoyed. Google is shutting Stadia down this week, but they are unlocking the controller's Bluetooth antenna so people aren't left with a paperweight.

Happy New Year! In this week of basically no gaming news, we decided to look back at 2022 a little bit and answer questions from the audience on our Discord server. I am hosting at Awesome Games Done Quick 2023 Online early on Monday and Thursday mornings, so come check it out if you're awake! I talk about what might be my game of the year in 2022, except I wasn't able to play many of the games due to life getting in the way. I then answer questions submitted via our Discord server, such as: What is my anticipated sleeper hit of 2023? What games would I want to compose the soundtrack? Is there a game at GDQ I would like to host for? Was there ever a game feature that came out that I said "of course, why didn't we think of that sooner?" What would be my ultimate Arcade1up machine? What is the craft beer scene like in Georgia?
I'm back from a two week hiatus! And I'm hosting two early morning shifts at Awesome Games Done Quick 2023, but at least the second one concludes the Awful Block, so it might be worth it for you to wake up early to experience it. I got to play the Weird Al pinball table, Weird Al's Museum of Natural Hilarity, and I was sold on it except for my ball continually getting stuck on a ramp - made worse by the lack of any kind of ball search functionality in the code. I was on a cruise - the Royal Caribbean Wonder of the Seas - and in the sports bar there were classic arcade games like Mario Bros and Galaga, except they were actually iCades and Beyond Arcades with multiple games in them...Are these unlicensed? Gamers are suing Microsoft to stop the Activision Blizzard merger. John Carmack has decided to leave Meta because he couldn't fight the fight anymore. Then we talk to Rob about The Game Awards and what I missed, other than the security breach.
Episode two hundred twenty one - part one Mike Uyama indulges Jessikah and Stacey in how he built a community of video gamers who channel their speedy skills as part of Games Done Quick, a wholesome live streamed event which has raised millions of dollars for Doctors Without Borders and the Prevent Cancer Association. I will not be on the air next weekend, but I am tentatively scheduled to moderate a panel at Dreamhack Atlanta on November 19th and I have been once again selected as a host for Awesome Games Done Quick 2023 Online in January! The PlayStation VR 2 is releasing for $549.99 on February 22, 2023, and preorders will begin on November 15th. Apple is preparing their AR/VR push by hiring two of the three cofounders of mixed reality development studio Playdeo. Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida has stated that the cast of the game will not be diverse because, apparently, there were no diverse people in medieval Europe. Then we talk to Rob about pinball (yes, there's a reason) as well as his thoughts on Yoshi-P's statements.
For no particular reason this week, Maverick got really into Crusader Kings III and playing as Irish royalty. John's diving deeper and deeper into Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and he continues to love it! On the news side, D23 sure was an event that happened and John gets live updates on the Ubisoft conference from this weekend. Games Done Quick look at another online marathon for next year in the wake of Florida's Anti LGBTQ bills while Twitch's brain geniuses continue to make the website optimal to its user base by shutting down Host Mode in the weeks to come. On this edition of Parallax Views, at the summer 2022 Game Done Quick, a video game speed-running marathon charity, fans of the classic Nintendo 64 title The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time were treated to an experience that they'd never expected. For 23-years players imagined the possibility of obtaining the game's most legendary, mystical item: the Triforce. Throughout the latter part of the 90s and the early 2000s urban legends proliferated claiming that players could, in fact, get the Triforce in game. But it wasn't until the "Beta Showcase", later revealed to be the Triforce% run showcase, that the dream of many of these fans would materialize into a reality. Using Arbitrary Code Execution (ACE), a human speed-runner, and cute, trusty robot known as TASBot (short for tool-assisted robot) a team led by the gaming community's Sauraen and DwangoAC were able to create a wildly new, fresh experience of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on an original, unmodified N64 cartridge. Said experience created a new story within the game that even included, believe it or not, a finale featuring a scene with graphics from the Nintendo Switch's The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and a fan-inclusive moment that tugged on the heartstrings of many gamers. And, as previously stated, this was all accomplished on an unmodified N64 cartridge. It was monumental event, in part, because it completely goes against previous conceptions of what Arbitrary Code Execution can do in video games. Ultimately, most people perceive ACE exploits as merely "breaking" a game. In other words, ACE, which involves pressing controller buttons in a quick and process way, is most commonly used glitch games in ways that allow for game completion in ways not intended by the developers. With the Triforce% run, however, ACE was used in quite a different way: to create rather than to destroy. Sauraen, the Triforce%'s director, and DwangoAC, the keeper of TASBot, join us on this edition of the show to talk about the whole project, how it came together, what the reactions to it have been, common misconceptions about Triforce% and what was done at the showcase of it at Games Done Quick, and much, much more including: - Explanations of TAS the tool-assisted robot, ACE (Arbitrary Code Execution, and SRM (Stale Reference Manipulation) and how they were used to make the Triforce% speedrun possible - The emotional elements of Triforce%'s story and ending - The Triforce% showcase as transformative art and "RAM Hacking" - How the speedrun could've gone wrong - Using ACE to create rather than to destroy; ACE being commonly understood as "breaking" the game and how the showcase shows a different side of what ACE can do - How was the ending with graphics in the style the Nintendo Switch title The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild done? - Misconceptions people have about the Triforce% showcase - TASBot's ability to press buttons faser than any human and how this figured into the speedrun - Does this open up new doors of possibility for future transformative art and the use of ACE in games like The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask and Super Mario games? - Legal concerns and Nintendo - How the showcase was used to raise money for the Doctors Without Borders charity
Ever asked "who would win in a fight"? One of the masters of the craft, CRISIS, joins us to discuss the art of hypothetical combat, Metal Gear's recent takeover of Games Done Quick, and the contentious canonicity of Portable Ops. Recorded on July 6th, 2022.
