Chevrolet has just released the jaw-dropping figures for its 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, which boasts an astonishing 1,064 horsepower, and that's just the beginning of an episode that should warm the heart of every musclecar fan. On top of the Corvette news, Stellantis has announced that it will continue to build and market HEMI V8-powered Dodge Durangos, and by some weird twist of fate, Host Jack Nerad just drove a Durango and he will share his recent Chicago area road test experience in the 2025 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat. The survival of the Durango is good news for enthusiasts, because it's a powerhouse that continues to dominate the performance three-row SUV segment. With its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine producing a staggering 710 horsepower, the Durango SRT Hellcat offers explosive performance that gets drivers from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds. This robust SUV combines thrilling acceleration with practicality, having the ability to tow up to 8,700 pounds and comfortably seat up to six passengers. Also featured in our road test segment this week Co-Host Chris Teague evaluates the 2025 Acura MDX, a luxury SUV that enhances both comfort and capability. With a refined interior that prioritizes quality and space, the MDX provides seating for up to seven and is loaded with tech features, including a large touchscreen interface for its infotainment system. Under the hood, the MDX offers the choice of two dynamic V6 engines that can deliver engaging driving experiences while maintaining reasonable fuel efficiency. Its all-wheel-drive system instills on-road confidence, but can it stand up to the cruelties of a Maine winter? We'll have Teague's practiced opinion on the matter. In the news this week, Stellantis is making headlines with the installation of former Dodge executive Tim Kuniskis as head of the brand and important updates to its forthcoming product plans. The battery-electric Ram pickup has been delayed while Ram pushes the Ramcharger forward, relying on its interesting range-extender tech to gain much-needed traction in the full-size pickup segment. On a more mainstream tack, we'll also review the pluses and minuses of the 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid, a finalist for the North American Car of the Year award, which will be announced next month. Meanwhile, Nissan has made some changes to the battery-electric Ariya that make it more appealing than ever. This week, our special guest is Maggie Clark, a Toyota product specialist, who shares insights on new Toyota models like the 2025 Crown Signia and Land Cruiser. The watch world is a funny place where even before you meet someone, it's often you follow one another online knowing well you'd be friends even had you met at a bar down the street. I guess in a sense, Instagram serves as a virtual bar for watch geeks like myself. Adam Craniotes and I met through the Social Media platform where he shares his self-deprecating humor, his admiration and allegiance to David Hasselhoff, and of course his pseudo-public humiliation of his children. I happen to adore his relationship with his kids, but we're here to chat all things watches, his writing career, his collecting journey, and of course his Acura MDX with the Sport Package. Of course none of this would've been possible had he not routinely met a friend at a little upstairs bar in the Koreatown neighborhood of Manhattan. That bar was called Red Bar, and so the watch group was named. Please enjoy my conversation with its founder, Mr. Adam Craniotes.

Jill and Tom are both in studio this week. The conversation opened with a summary of cars being dropped by Jaguar and Nissan in the near future. Effective almost immediately, Jaguar is dropping all but one model from its lineup. Listen in for the full list. Likewise, Nissan is dropping two of its three remaining U.S.-market sedans beginning next year. In other news, the hosts discussed IONNA--the carmaker-backed charging network with stations going live later this year—and the addition of Toyota to the roster car companies supporting the program. Still in the first segment, Jill shared her impressions of the updated-for-2025 Acura MDX premium midsize crossover. In the second segment, Jill and Tom welcome Patrick Masterson of Cars.com to the show. Patrick walked the hosts through Car's 2024 American Made Index. This list is—again—full of surprises. How American is the new car you're looking at? Listen in for details. In the third segment Jill is subjected to Tom's “Is it a Chrysler” quiz.
In Podcast #330, John Davis and the MotorWeek crew are all about the Hondas the week! Jessica starts us off with her time driving the revived Honda Civic Hybrid while Brian goes off the beaten path with the Ridgeline TrailSport. Then we shift to our Lightning Round where a recent survey of EV owners has many asking if they want to stay all-electric. And a viewer has a question on whether or not they should buy or lease their next vehicle while in advanced age. We end with Stephanie's recent experience in the refreshed Acura MDX.
The burgeoning midsize truck segment has a renewed entrant in the 2024 Ford Ranger. The handsome truck offers a pair of powerful turbocharged engines, including the now-available 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, and it is filled with technologies previously unavailable on a midsize pickup. Of course, the all-new 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor raises the brand's performance flag higher than ever before. To learn all about the new Ranger, Host Jack Nerad sat down for a lengthy interview with Ranger and Ranger Raptor Chief Engineer Juan de Pena. In the interview, de Pena describes the philosophy behind the truck and details its many features. If you're thinking of buying a midsize or even a full-size pickup any time soon, you'll want to hear what he has to say. On the road test front this week, Co-host Chris Teague will describe his weeklong test of the 2024 Chevrolet Trailblazer small SUV. The test vehicle was the top-of-the-line RS version, which squeezes more performance than you might expect out of its three-cylinder turbocharged engine. In our other road test, Host Jack Nerad put in more than 500 miles behind the wheel of the 2024 Toyota Sienna XSE minivan as he and his wife did some real-world testing, moving their youngest daughter (and her stuff) to Central California for a summer job before she resumes her college career in the fall. Now equipped with a thrifty hybrid powertrain and filled with convenience features, the Sienna proved to be an excellent tool for the job. We'll tell you more in this episode. In the news this week, there is trouble in the self-driving car world as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is looking into problems with Waymo's robotaxis and their autonomous driving technology. With several collisions to their credit, maybe the Waymo cabs need a re-think. The news for the electric vehicle segment isn't much better. Stellantis has just announced that it is switching production of its battery-electric Fiat 500e to a hybrid version of the car. In fact, as bad as the news is for EVs, it is that much better for hybrids, something. we precited years ago. Vehicle introductions making news this week come from Kia — the global unveiling of the Kia EV3 small crossover utility — and Acura — the unmasking of the 2025 Acura MDX three-row luxury SUV. We'll tell you about both in this episode. America on the Road is brought to you by Driving Today.com, Mercury Insurance, and EMLandsea.com , the publisher of Nerad's latest book, Dance in the Dark, which is available HERE on Amazon.com

The 2024 Lexus TX three-row crossover might prompt some luxury SUV buyers to wonder why Lexus hasn't had a vehicle like it before. The good news is Lexus has it now, and it promises to be a strong competitor to other three-row luxury crossovers like the Acura MDX. Host Jack Nerad had the opportunity to test the vehicle at its American launch outside Austin, Texas, and he came away impressed. Its spacious interior, up-to-the-minute technology tech, and multiple powertrains give the TX all it needs to compete in its very competitive segment. The Audi Q7, Volvo XC90, and Infiniti QX60 each have their strong points, but the Lexus TX seems to have encapsulated the factors that luxury crossover buyers want most. Smooth-riding and extremely quiet, the 2024 TX might not outrun some of its rivals on the racetrack, but it does deliver the space and comfort buyers demand. The TX also offers a fascinating selection of powertrains — a turbocharged four-cylinder, a hybrid that combines a turbocharged four-cylinder with electric motors, and a plug-in hybrid that teams a V6 with electric motors. Add four-wheel-steer in some trims, and you have a technological tour de force. In our other road test, Co-Host Chris Teague took the wheel of the scintillating BMW M2. Small, agile, and supremely powerful, the M2 proved to be a more than willing partner as Teague tore his way across southern Maine. In this episode, he'll have a full report. In the news this week, Honda is bringing back the popular Civic Hybrid compact sedan, and it promises to be better than ever. Honda was long a hybrid skeptic, but in the past couple of years, it has changed its tune and now embraces hybrid technology. Its Accord and CR-V hybrid models are bestsellers in the brand, so you can see why Honda execs are bullish on the Civic Hybrid. Some major carmakers are far less bullish about the prospects for battery-electric vehicles. Spurred by federal, state, and local regulations, most automakers have invested billions in electric vehicle tech. Not only have they introduced scores of new EVs, but they have even more waiting in the wings. Now, though, they are facing the reality of the market, and the prospects are less than encouraging. We'll give you our take on this conundrum in this episode. Kia is an example of a carmaker that has swallowed the EV Kool-Aid. The Korean brand has just introduced a trio of lower-cost electric vehicles in Asia as it tries to reach its goal of selling one million EVs by 2026. We'll tell you if we can expect to see any of them in the U.S. soon. Our special guests this week have a fascinating new concept that can provide peace of mind to the millions of Americans who buy vehicles from private parties each year. Ed Brojerdi and Craig Nehamen are co-founders and co-CEOs of Caramel, a company they designed to relieve the many pain points of buying a car from an individual. From dealing with the Department of Motor Vehicles to offering service contracts, Caramel can help private buyers and sellers make beautiful music together … or at the very least, complete car transactions hassle-free. Please tune in for their conversation with host Jack Nerad. Virginia State Police are now investigating a three vehicle crash that killed one person. Officials say at around 10:50 p.m. on Tuesday night State Police responded to Interstate 64 near Mechanicsville Turnpike in Henrico County for the crash. According to Virginia State Police a 2011 Toyota Avalon was traveling westbound when it rear-ended a 2000 Honda CRV. The Avalon continued, lost control, and went into the center median before striking the guardrail and overturning into the eastbound lanes of I-64. As it was coming to a rest on the eastbound side, the Toyota also struck a 2017 Acura MDX head-on....Article LinkSupport the show
Buying a vehicle made in the United States is essential to many consumers. According to Cars.com, about half of the car buyers in the United States say they will pay more for a vehicle that creates U.S. jobs. Additionally, 24 percent of Americans believe a manufacturer has to be headquartered in the U.S. to qualify as "substantially contributing to the U.S. economy." Tesla holds the top four places in the 18th annual American-Made Index announced by Cars.com. Jenni Newman, the editor-in-chief of cars.com, is our guest this week on The Weekly Driver Podcast. We discuss consumers' preferences for cars made in the United States. Co-host Bruce Aldrich is away this week, so I interview Newman, a repeat guest, about the online publication's 18th annual American-Made Index (AMI). The index independently evaluates and ranks the highest-contributing vehicles to the U.S. economy for manufacturing, parts sourcing and employment. The Honda Odyssey is a mainstay on the American-Made Index announced recently by Cars.com. Image © James Raia/2016. Newman speaks to the methodology behind the compilation of the list, the disconnect between consumer understanding and the American-made automotive market. This year, the AMI consideration set comprises 388 vehicles. Only 100 made the cut with Tesla sweeping the first four spots, joined at the top by mainstay Honda and returning Acura. Volkswagen is debuting in the Index's top 10. Here's the list, Nos. 1-10 on this year's AMI list: Tesla Model Y, Tesla Model 3, Tesla Model X, Tesla Model S, Honda Passport, Volkswagen ID.4, Honda Odyssey, Acura MDX, Honda Ridgeline, Acura RDX. Ken reviews the impressive Acura MDX Type-S luxury crossover SUV; How one fresh food marketplace in India turns rotten produce into electricity; and how solar power saved the day for many during Hurricane Ian in Florida.
Performance, Luxury, SUV. It seems that now more than ever, the lines between those three attributes are blurry at best. Ever since the introduction of the first ever Porsche Cayenne, the automaker's first SUV, and especially after the introduction of its performance variants, more and more automakers are using that recipe to seduce consumers to park one in their driveway. The Acura MDX Type-S is the latest to make a solid case for ownership.
Jonny Lieberman (MotorTrend) tells us about his drives in the new Audi RS4/RS5 Competition; his trip to Goodwood Revival; why the new Range Rover Sport is better than its predecessors (and the regular RR); buying the Rivian instead of the Cybertruck; what's wrong with Acura; oligarchs; the new Guntherwerks Tornado; learning to write again; and a whole lot more. Acura's MDX might not be the most exciting crossover. Even its more stylish RDX stablemate jumps off the page more than the three-row MDX. Though, the addition of the Type S package and its turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 turns this people mover into a more interesting machine. This engine replaces the standard, naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 and makes 355 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. That's a 65 hp and an 87 lb-ft bump over the standard MDX. Acura also makes the Type S available with the legendary SH-AWD system that takes advantage of all of that extra power. Of course, Acura also expands the luxury appointments for the MDX Type S, which includes premium leather materials and massaging seats. On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren hops behind the wheel of the 2022 Acura MDX Type S and puts it through its paces. Wren takes you on a guided walk around that highlights the MDX Type S's features before taking you along on a live-recorded drive review. Adding to the show, Patrick Carone hops into the discussion about the MDX and the pair talk about its price, competition and market position. Closing the show, the two break down what makes this Acura special.

If you want to be the coolest parent at this Fall's first soccer game arrive in the new 2022 Acura MDX Type S. Yes, it is a three-row SUV, but its performance helps you forget that when you're behind the wheel. The hottest variant of Acura's flagship MDX, the Type S is the most powerful, best-handling, and most lavishly equipped Acura SUV built since the planet was formed. In this episode of “America on the Road,” extremely rigid Co-Host Chris Teague tests the extremely rigid, fourth-generation MDX platform in Type S trim. It helps the SUV reach an elevated level of performance aided by its new 355-horsepower Type S Turbo V6. The model also features torque-vectoring Super Handling All-Wheel Drive, Brembo front brakes, and a 10-speed automatic transmission reengineered to handle the engine's stout torque production. Also in the road test segment, Host Jack Nerad puts the fun-to-drive Mazda CX-30 through its paces. The vehicle can prompt debate on whether or not it's an SUV, but there is no debate about its engaging driving performance. In standard trim, it offers 186 horsepower, but our testers were drawn to the 250 horsepower turbocharged version. Go figure. Do want to know what the highest quality vehicles are for 2022? Probably, and lucky for you, we have J.D. Power's 2022 Initial Quality Study results. Many of the top models aren't what you'd guess, and we'll have the details plus our incredulous reactions. Also in the news, Volkswagen has just pulled the wraps off an all-new battery-electric sedan concept called the ID.Aero. With smooth styling and a lot of range on a charge, it could give Tesla a run for its money when it arrives on our shores in a year or two. If you are thinking about buying a car, you'll be interested to hear what our special guest has to say about that. Jason Barrie is the chief operating officer of Digital Airstrike and an expert in auto retailing. Interviewed by Host Jack Nerad, he will bring his insight on today's bizarre and challenging car market. And that insight could help save you some money. And heartache. All that and more are coming up on “America on the Road,” brought to you by Mercury Insurance and Driving Today.com.
This week on the Unnamed Automotive Podcast, the duo jump into action to discuss the 2023 BMW iX M60, a combination of BMW's M, i and X brands that looks... frumpy. Besides the exterior design, the M60 sports a ton of power and performance, especially in a straight line. But everyone knows that a BMW M product has to sound cool too, so be sure to hear Sami explain how the iX M60 achieves its signature soundtrack. Then Benjamin dives in to talk about the 2022 Acura MDX Type S, which leverages Acura's once sexy sport trim for a new (nefarious?) purpose. With a turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine, is the MDX Type S hot enough to be worthy of that name? Where else does its performance shine? Will Benjamin end up begging listeners to help him understand where Acura is going with this Type S branding? Finally, Benjamin shares an update on his Datsun woes, and how he hopes to resolve his issues to get back on the track again. Thanks for listening! Be sure to subscribe and review!
Hard working parents deserve a little fun. The 2022 Acura MDX Type S delivers driving excellence plus a lot of people and cargo too. Seating up to seven, the Type S improves on the already impressive MDX with true torque vectoring SH-AWD. There's more power from a new turbocharged V6, air suspension (an Acura first) and adaptive dampers (an MDX first). For audiophiles, the new ELS Studio 3D Signature sound system could be the best audio in any vehicle. Tom Voelk checks out a MDX Type S Advance model on the twisty roads of the Napa Valley.

On this episode we share our first impressions of the 2022 Acura MDX, and how this long standing name plate competes with other three-row SUVs in its segment. Consumer Reports, in collaboration with IIHS, recently released a list of safe and reliable new and used cars for teen drivers, and we discuss the criteria to make the list, as well as share our personal picks for which vehicles we would recommend. Other topics include: Electric vehicles for post-covid commuting; why the auto industry lacks standardization for manual modes on shifters; why some car manufacturers are more proactive in implementing new technology and making updates to their vehicles than others; and how to safely transport a pet in a vehicle. ----------------------------------- Have a question for our experts?
