Are SUVs like the 2025 Hyundai Tucson XRT and Acura RDX really meant to go off road? That's a question we will answer this week as we discuss both vehicles after thoroughly road testing them. Cohost Chris Teague test-drove the refreshed 2025 Acura RDX, a compact luxury SUV with updated styling, a sharper grille, a more functional cabin, and upgraded tech, including a wide-screen 10.2-inch display. The RDX is powered by a 272-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Available Super Handling All-Wheel Drive and a suite of standard safety features complete the package. The specs are impressive, but does the RDX also have a “feature” that might turn you off? While Chris was at the wheel of the Acura, Host Jack Nerad put the (semi-)rugged 2025 Hyundai Tucson XRT AWD to the test. This new variant adds off-road-inspired styling, 19-inch black alloy wheels, and 8.3 inches of ground clearance. Under the hood, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine is paired with Hyundai's HTRAC all-wheel-drive system. Inside, the Tucson XRT features a comfortable, tech-forward cabin with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The question is off-roader or soft-roader? In this week's news segment, we cover the debut of the 2026 Toyota RAV4, redesigned for its sixth generation with hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains only. New trims include the sporty GR SPORT and off-road-ready Woodland edition. We also examine Congress's recent vote to block California's plan to phase out gas-only car sales by 2035, breaking down what this means for national emissions policy and the EV market. The industry hails the change, but some environments cry foul. In other news, Tesla's sales in Europe have fallen nearly 50% in April, despite overall EV market growth. Based on that, we explore possible causes, including public perceptions of CEO Elon Musk and the realities of the European auto market, which has welcomed (kinda) the Chinese. Finally, Volvo's announcement of 3,000 job cuts signals broader challenges amid a slowing EV market and global trade uncertainties. Our special guest this week is Anthony Watkins, Toyota product expert, who joins us to discuss the 2026 Toyota BZ, the brand's heavily revised electric crossover. Jack Nerad drove the new version, and we'll have a special report. We'll also answer our listener question of the week: Connor from Davenport, Iowa, asks, “Should I buy or lease my next car? I drive about 8 to 9,000 miles a year — would a lease make sense?” We offer our take. Have a question for the show? Email us anytime at editor@drivingtoday.com. The Unnamed Automotive Podcast breaks into the big 4-0-0, but this week's episode lacks much fanfare or frills. After a brief discussion about the 399+ episodes that came before today, the guys dive right into talking about the new cars they've been testing. Sami delivers his verdict of the 2025 Acura RDX, a luxury SUV that goes against some very impressive rivals and has a few things to rave about, but a few more things that question the brand's commitment to the segment. Then Benjamin talks about a new powertrain option found in the Ford Ranger, one that may be faster than other, more performance oriented trucks. While the Ranger is smaller than an F-Series, it has a few important benefits, and Benjamin runs you through them all. Thanks everyone for listening to 400 (and more) episodes. We can't wait to deliver even more in the coming months and years!

Ep230 It seems the internet remains undefeated as the less known Tippah County Tribune published an article stating that the Hawk Tuah girl, Hailey Wellington has been fired from her job as a pre-school teacher. This satirical article set the world on fire faster than Amazon Prime's Fallout TV series. Whether Hailey is even really a pre-school teacher or not, the question is still, Can people still be fired from things on social media? I guess it depends on what those things are. Buying a vehicle made in the United States is essential to many consumers. According to Cars.com, about half of the car buyers in the United States say they will pay more for a vehicle that creates U.S. jobs. Additionally, 24 percent of Americans believe a manufacturer has to be headquartered in the U.S. to qualify as "substantially contributing to the U.S. economy." Tesla holds the top four places in the 18th annual American-Made Index announced by Cars.com. Jenni Newman, the editor-in-chief of cars.com, is our guest this week on The Weekly Driver Podcast. We discuss consumers' preferences for cars made in the United States. Co-host Bruce Aldrich is away this week, so I interview Newman, a repeat guest, about the online publication's 18th annual American-Made Index (AMI). The index independently evaluates and ranks the highest-contributing vehicles to the U.S. economy for manufacturing, parts sourcing and employment. The Honda Odyssey is a mainstay on the American-Made Index announced recently by Cars.com. Image © James Raia/2016. Newman speaks to the methodology behind the compilation of the list, the disconnect between consumer understanding and the American-made automotive market. This year, the AMI consideration set comprises 388 vehicles. Only 100 made the cut with Tesla sweeping the first four spots, joined at the top by mainstay Honda and returning Acura. Volkswagen is debuting in the Index's top 10. Here's the list, Nos. 1-10 on this year's AMI list: Tesla Model Y, Tesla Model 3, Tesla Model X, Tesla Model S, Honda Passport, Volkswagen ID.4, Honda Odyssey, Acura MDX, Honda Ridgeline, Acura RDX. Please join me as Newman and I examine the AMI list and further discuss its relevance in today's automotive marketplace. Ford has just introduced an ultra-high-performance version of its Bronco off-roader called the Bronco Raptor. And we'll have all the details in this episode. The 2022 Ford Bronco brings a 400-horsepower turbocharged V-6 engine and a heavily altered, fully-boxed frame to the task of desert running. With a significantly wider track and added ground clearance, the Bronco Raptor seems ready to do battle with the Ram 1500 TRX. But does it have the horsepower to catch up? Electric vehicles continue to grab attention, and we have the inside line on one of the most exciting new EVs, the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Our special guest is Ryan Miller, manager of electrified powertrain development at Hyundai Kia America Technical Center. Host Jack Nerad had a chance to sit down with him recently on the initial Ioniq 5 press drive event, and he and Miller had an in-depth discussion about the fascinating vehicle. Miller says that it represents a new start for Hyundai in its transition from a maker of cars to a provider of sustainable transportation. In the road test segment, Co-host Chris Teague got behind the wheel of the new 2022 Acura RDX. One of the first crossover utilities to put an emphasis on performance, the Acura RDX has seen its position threatened by other imports recently. Teague will tell us how the new 2002 version matches up versus the competition. Also in the road test segment Jack Nerad evaluated the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe XRT, the newest version of the brand's midsize five-passenger crossover. The XRT has off-road-oriented looks but can it act the part? Nerad and Teague will discuss that in this episode. Finally, in the news, a very familiar name in consumer electronics -- Sony -- is taking steps to enter the electric vehicle market on a worldwide basis. Do they have a chance to succeed? Or is the attempt doomed from the start? We'll give our opinions.

WOW! Joe Biden really did say that if Americans think they have any “right” to own weapons under the Second Amendment for the purpose of “controlling the Federal Government”, then We The People are wrong. He said we will need F-15s and nuclear weapons! Louis Avallone and Stephen Parr compare this declaration by Joe Biden (and the Biden Administration) to the Chinese Tiananmen Square Massacre in June, 1989, where thousands of peaceful demonstrators were brutally killed. Now you understand what the Socialist-Marxist Democrats really intend to do and why they are determined to confiscate all our personally owned weapons…..to leave us as defenseless as those Chinese. And knowing the top leaders of the American military are so deep into the Democrat “wokeness” today is also a concern. Biden definitely was threatening use of the military against the American people, even though the American military is never supposed to be used against us.The State of Mississippi has just been sued by he Mississippi Humanist Association and American Atheists Inc. because their State license plate has “In God We Trust”. They claim it forces them display a religious message on their vehicles, as well as cleaning it violates their Freedom of Speech. Since it is the motto of the United States and has it printed on our money since 1864, this is going to be an interesting case to follow.Winning at anything should not be so important that it justifies cheating, especially not when it involves kids' sports and the adults are the ones doing it. Too much of our culture today had devolved into those depths, however. Rather than saying “everyone is doing it”, good Americans need to start investigating it and working to make it public. (If you know of a cheating story, contact us at American Ground Radio.)Having said that, this segment of @American Mamas is very personal to Teri Netterville and Denise Arthur. Catholic High School in Baton Rouge has just been sanctioned by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) for recruiting violations, and Championship titles have been stripped for its various State Titles between 2017 through 2020. Apparently, there was some major recruiting of athletes, following scouting of middle schools, which is not permitted. Even though Catholic High School was fined and the titles stripped, the recruited players were not ordered back to their “zoned school of attendance,” and will be allowed to continue being students at Catholic High School. These students were not the ones doing the cheating. It was adults. The Democrats are much more interested in enabling illegals to become voting Democrats than they are about protecting the American citizens. As a result, it seems to have taken the fear of Donald Trump getting to the Texas-Mexico border before Kamala Harris got her “photo opportunity” to finally get her to make the trip. However, if she really wanted to learn about the border problems, she would be going to Del Rio with Rep. Henry Cuellar (D) instead of to El Paso (home of Beto). The problem of a continual decline in the birthrate there start to be a decline in eligible people to replace people leaving the work force because of age, retirement, or death. Germany, Bosnia, Italy, France, Belgium, Japan, South Korea, and the United States are among a number of Nations experiencing a definite decline in the number of live births in recent years. In the US, this trend started about 2007, as the economy dropped, and it really has not recovered. There are several reasons for a declining birthrate, including the cost of raising a child today, and a sense of political instability. The states hardest hit in the last part of 2020 are New Mexico, New York, California, Hawaii, and West Virginia. Except for West Virginia, the other states had the strictest COVID lockdowns. Cars.com tracks several factors to determine how much of each automobile is really a “Made in America” vehicle — meaning where it was assembly, the percentage of its parts are American manufactured, where the engines and transmissions were manufactured, and how much of the labor to make it is actually American. The results can be surprising, and you cannot go by the brand name any more. 1.) Tesla Model 3, 2.) Ford Mustang, 3.) Tesla Model Y, 4.) Jeep Cherokee, 5.) Chevrolet Corvette, 6.) Crossovers have become all things to all buyers. Looking for something on the sporty side? The RDX is up to the task. Equipped with active torque vectoring Super Handling All-Wheel Drive, it puts the “sport” in Sport Utility Vehicle. It’s also priced right. Tom Voelk checks out the A-Spec performance trim version and takes a close look at the True Touchpad interface that can be a deal maker, or breaker.
Professional road cyclists were once self-sustaining athletes. Vehicle support wasn't allowed in races like the Tour de France unless via unscrupulous means. Catching a rider getting assistance from a car meant disqualification. Much has changed. With various other company relationships for bicycles, helmets, sunglasses and energy food, vehicle sponsorship is as much part of a team as its riders. The Rally Cycling Team supports its men's and women's team with 2019 Acura RDX sport utility vehicles. Images courtesy of Sam Wiebe/Rally Cycling Team. Race organizers rely on manufacturer vehicles to keep the race intact and safe as it progresses along country roads and into mountain ranges. Andrew Bajadali, a former pro cycling and director with the Rally Cycling Team, is our guest this week on Episode #119 of The Weekly Driver Podcast. We discuss how pro cycling teams rely on team vehicles to assist their riders. Co-host James Raia talks with Bajadali from the passenger seat of a 2019 Acura RDX during the opening day of the team's training camp in Oxnard, California. Bruce Aldrich, the broadcast's other co-host, produced the episode from Sacramento. During more than a four-hour team ride along the Pacific Coast Highways and into the surrounding foothills, Bajadali and I discuss the learning curve of the transition of a pro career into a director's role. It includes learning from other directors the ins-and-outs driving during races that may 150 cyclists and several-dozen team cars “A team car is really there to support in all ways,” said Bajadali. “I don't know if people who don't know the ins-and-outs of the sport know how important it is to have a car there. It's a major luxury.” Unlike cycling teams of yesteryear that relied on panel vans or mini cars with questionable reliability, most current teams opt for all-wheel drive wagons or SUVs. One now-defunct team in recent years had two Porsche Panamera sports cars as support vehicles. It didn't go well. During training and races, team vehicles transport extra bikes, wheels, various equipment, food, water and medical equipment. If a race includes 20 teams, 40 team vehicles, plus official race vehicles, all advance along the route in an ever-changing processional that also may include 150 riders. Every team's vehicles are detailed in team colors and have signage for its sponsors. A road race may advance smoothly for hours on a long, open road. But chaos can occur in an instant after a crash. Team cars require skilled drivers, usually former pro cyclists, who negotiate winding roads often at high speeds to assist riders. “Basically, you're just always learning,” said Bajadali who first drove a team car in the early season Dubai Tour. “It was amazing just to see a race on that level. You learn a lot. It was my first day driving solo. You're just working your way up in understanding. A few years into it, you find your groove and your way of doing things. You just have to get in there and get your hands dirty.” If a cyclist needs a new bike or medical assistance, the exchange between the team car and rider is similar to a pitstop in auto racing. It's not uncommon for riders to take advantage of a team car's speed and hang on too long for a rest. But race officials are watchful for infractions. “Team cars in road cycling is just part of the game,” said Bajadali, who rode as a passenger in team cars before assuming driving responsibilities. “It kind of equalizes the race where everyone has that kind of support and you can get down to business and do tactics and fast racing.” The Weekly Driver Podcast encourages and appreciates feedback from our listeners. Too many people are trying to steal your data, whether it's on your computer or stored on-line. We all have a duty to be cautious, so let's consider how. In Short Circuits: If you have an old computer or other electronic device that still works, you can sell it. But what if it's broken? You may still be able to sell it and keep it out of a landfill. Some electric utilities make it possible to keep an eye on real-time usage. An update to Adobe Audition has added several new features. One of them is small but uncommonly useful. In Spare Parts (only on the website): LampLess projectors still have light sources, so are they really "lampless"? Maybe it depends on your definition. • Amazon can now deliver packages to your car if you live in one of 50 specific cities, have a current Acura RDX, and park it in the right place.

Which was worse: being sideways all day or getting used to the RDX's infotainment system?

Once we're past that useless banter, we discuss important matters such as the Genesis G70 (with a manual!) parked outside the studio, Louis' trip to Vancouver with a Mazda3, and Adi's trip to B.C. to drive the 2019 Acura RDX. Diving into our own old cars, we talk about Jerry's ongoing Toyota Celica Supra project, and Adi's always-broken-but-beautiful Mercedes 560 SEL.
