Locked On Giants – Daily Podcast On The San Francisco Giants
On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick joins Locked On Diamondbacks host Millard Thomas to discuss all things San Francisco Giants Hall of Fame. With Barry Bonds falling off the ballot recently, Ben and Millard discuss the writers keeping him out of Cooperstown, and if it makes sense. They talk about David Ortiz getting in on the first ballot despite him reportedly testing positive for a PED in 2003. The process doesn't appear to be fair at all, and Ben's opinion is that we don't know who was using and who wasn't, so the writers really shouldn't pick and choose based on suspected PED use.Ben and Millard also talk about the careers of Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain. Lincecum, of course, burst onto the scene in the late 2000s and quickly became the best pitcher in the game. He won back-to-back Cy Young Awards in 2008 and 2009, and he looked to be on a Hall of Fame trajectory. But then his career went sideways in a hurry. Ben explains to Millard that Lincecum quickly and consistently lost velocity on his fastball due to hip issues, and once the velocity was diminished everything fell apart.Similarly, Matt Cain was a solidly above-average pitcher for many years for the Giants, yet he abruptly fell off a cliff around the same time as Lincecum. Ben adds that Cain also dealt with numerous injuries and diminished velocity during his decline. Finally, the two talk about the Hall of Fame candidacies of Madison Bumgarner and Buster Posey, both of whom probably have a better shot than Lincecum or Cain. Ben believes Bumgarner is probably not a Hall of Famer, but that Posey will be the one player to get in for the Giants this century, despite having so much individual and team success since 2000.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Locked On Giants – Daily Podcast On The San Francisco Giants
On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick details the latest from around Major League Baseball. The MLB Players Association and MLB met in person in Manhattan on Monday and Tuesday, marking significant progress from the weeks of no substantive meetings between the two sides since the lockout began on Dec. 2. In its counterproposal to the league, the MLBPA held firm on its push for two-year arbitration eligibility, a substantially increased Competitive Balance Tax threshold, and cuts to revenue sharing. Notably, the league lowered its proposed cut from $100 million to $30 million in its latest offer. The players' side also proposed a substantial increase to the league minimum salary, to $775,000.Ben also discusses Kevin Gausman's tweet over the weekend, in which he declared that the San Francisco Giants never made him a contract offer this offseason. Gausman ultimately signed a five-year, $110 million contract with the Toronto Blue Jays. Ben dives into why the Giants may not have made him an offer. It's plausible that Gausman's representation made it clear that their client was seeking to maximize total dollars, and that the Giants were more interested in a shorter-term deal with a higher average annual value. Finally, Ben discusses the Hall of Fame vote, which is set to be announced today. Barry Bonds, Jeff Kent, and Tim Lincecum are the names to watch for Giants fans. The threshold to get in is 75% of the vote; last year, Bonds received 61.8%. This is Bonds' final year of eligibility. Kent has two more years counting this one, and his highest total was in the low-30s. This is Lincecum's first year on the ballot, and he is very unlikely to ever get in. But the number to watch is 5%: that's what Lincecum needs today in order to remain on the ballot next year.Follow & Subscribe to the Locked On Giants Podcast on these platforms

Tim Lincecum was one of the first homegrown Giants stars that ushered in their dominance early last decade. He burst onto the scene by winning back-to-back Cy Young awards in 2008 and 2009. Lincecum's peak was short but he was easily the best pitcher in baseball and managed to rack up some serious hardware. We take a look back at Lincecum's impact. All this (and more) on today's episode.

Imagining an alternate reality in which the Giants didn't select Tim Lincecum, Madison Bumgarner, and Buster Posey with their first-round picks in the 2006-08 MLB draft. It's a scary alternate universe, but it's not that hard to imagine. Mock drafts had the Giants selecting Daniel Bard in '06, Casey Weathers in '07, and Justin Smoak in '08. It's clear that without any of Lincecum, Bumgarner, and Posey, the Giants don't win one championship, let alone three. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Episode 12: Puig, Lincecum, Bands, Bonds, Cleveland by Los Angeles Times
Välkomna in i vår - ibland skruvade - värld.
Former Giants star Tim Lincecum joins the podcast to discuss his return to the big leagues, his desire to remain a starter, his lasting connection to San Francisco and more. Plus, MLB.com Giants beat writer Chris Haft shares his thoughts on Lincecum’s Angels debut and some moments that stand out from his time covering Lincecum.
Fredi Gonzalez got fired even though nobody thought he was going to win. Meanwhile Tim Lincecum got a job because the Angels owner thinks it is 2011.
Jayson Stark, of ESPN, joined the Program to talk about the Bautista/Odor brawl, Lincecum and the Royals.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Ben and Adam analyze the Giants’ winning streak and much more. Bochy pulls Casilla in the ninth; a shaky bullpen; a clutch moment for Posey; an epic replay fail/win; Lincecum to the Angels; Odor blasts Bautista in the chin.
The Warriors are winning without Stephen Curry in the playoffs but that's not the only big thing going on in the Bay Area these days. How about this: The Sal and Steiny Podcast has a sponsor! And get this: The sponsor is the Pacific Coast Brewing Company in Oakland CA. Sal and Steiny are pumped to be a part of this great place -- terrific food and drink, dynamite atmosphere and attentive staff. We couldn't be more excited and we'll be hosting some future podcasts there. On this show, we talk about how the Warriors continue to roll, even without Stephen Curry. The Warriors lead the Blazers 2-0, with Game 3 set for Saturday May 7. There are rumors Curry could return from his knee injury for that game. Speaking of returning, the Giants are said to be interested in signing Tim Lincecum, one of the biggest fan favorites in Bay Area history. Sal tell you the secret behind Lincecum's popularity. Oh, and lastly, if you think Bay Area traffic is getting worse, you're right -- and in a big way. Castaneda teases his traffic feature on KTVU, which has some remarkable facts about what's going on with Bay Area transportation.

Willie and I were joined by the wonderfully talented internet entrepreneur and Giants fan, Veronica Belmont in the press box for Game 2 against the Dodgers on 7/26/14. Unfortunately for her, she agreed ahead of time to be a guest on our traditional "bonusode" at Zeke's after the game. Our regular favorite, Jen Cosgriff from Bay Sports Net joined us later in the episode as well. We talk about the game, where the Giants are, our Hearthstone conversation with Hunter Pence during BP, the back-up, back-up, back-up, back-up, back-up second baseman. Come travel down the path of despair, elation, drink orders, and "FU*& ITs!" Chad
Tim Lincecum loves facing the Padres, but then again what pitcher doesn't love facing the Padres this year. Lincecum tossed his second no-hitter against San Diego in less than a year! The U.S. meets Germany in World Cup action and Luis Suarez made headlines for all the wrong reasons. Plus, a preview of the NBA draft and thoughts on where LeBron and Carmelo may end up.
Wille, Ben and Chad record the first 2014 regular season episode of TortureCast, reviewing the Giants' fantastic 5-2 start, Belt's 4 HRs, the Giants lead MLB in HR, taking 2 of 3 from the Dodgers, MadBum, Cain, Hudson's first start, and who we hate this week (insert Puig).
The boys are back in Episode #56 to talk about Ben and Chad's experience interviewing players at Media Day, how Chad gave a 3 hour behind-the-scenes tour of the Monterey Bay Aquarium to Matt Cain and his family, early domination by the starters in Spring Training, our favorite tweets, and the first "Why'll we'll win it all" of 2014. Come join our Michael Morse swooncast!
Inside this edition of 201CWithout a Curse,201D Alex breaks down Game 1 of the World Series and looks ahead to the rest of the series. Jon Lester was dominant, as he tossed seven and two-third shutout innings on Wednesday night. He became only the third pitcher in Major League Baseball history to throw shutouts in his first two career World Series starts. Lester established the inside part of the plate with his four-seam fastball, which allowed him to paint the outside corner with his cutter against right-handed batters. David Ross called a terrific game behind the plate, as Lester put forth a gem. The Cardinals plethora of defensive miscues early on aided the Red Sox, as they didn2019t appear to be ready for the moment. It2019s inconceivable that a team like the Cardinals go make three defensive mistakes in the first two innings of a World Series game, all of which led to runs. Adam Wainwright threw 60 pitches in his first two innings, and exited after five frames. Though Wainwright and Michael Wacha have been dominant this postseason, facing this relentless Red Sox lineup is a different animal. John Lackey is slated to start in Game 2, as he will take the mound for the first time after outdueling Justin Verlander in Game 3 of the ALCS. It is believed that Jake Peavy will start Game 3, as Ken Rosenthal reported last night that Clay Buchholz will be pushed back to Game 4. Buchholz2019s shoulder obviously still isn2019t right, as he2019s allowed 10 runs in 16 and two-third innings in the playoffs. The frustration many fans have with Buchholz is understandable, as he hasn2019t proven himself to be durable. But few pitchers are. If Buchholz was healthy, he wouldn2019t have missed three months of the season. Contrary to what some may think, players don2019t just miss time for the fun of it. In the 201CAround the League201D segment, Alex talks about how Jim Leyland walked away from the dugout in the classiest way possible, and gives a brief retrospective on his career. There is more to Leyland than meets the ear, and certainly more than cigarettes. Don Mattingly gave arguably the most awkward press conference ever, when he openly chastised Dodgers management for making him work the past season on a one-year contract earlier this week. The Dodgers appear to still have questions about Mattingly2019s managerial ability, which is understandable. Outside of a three- month stretch of excellence this season, his teams have gone 218-217. What was even more bizarre than Mattingly2019s behavior at his press conference this week, though, was the Giants decision to resign Tim Lincecum for two years and $35 million. It2019s too much of a commitment to give to Lincecum, even if his peripheral statistics indicate he2019s not as bad as his rising ERA would indicate. Email Alex at areimer@bu.edu, and follow him on Twitter @AlexReimer1. He will be back on Monday to break down Games 2, 3 and 4 of the World Series. Three wins to go!
