“Send Coach John a message”It's always awesome finding so many things that speak directly to my heart. It's like Clint Hurdle (@ClintHurdle13) knew this advice he was sharing, was something that I needed to connect with.  He shares this thought from his book:  “Hurdle-isms for having a high standard.  #17) “Lower the bar and you lose the winners; raise the bar and you lose the losers.”  Now I know I need to raise the bar simply to tell (and show) myself that I can (and need to) get rid of the “loser” versions of my previous selves along with their excuses, habits, self-talk, etc.  The other one was #18) “We don't have time to have “just another day.”  I am seeing this more and more as I get older. I knew about this truth when I was younger, but I for sure didn't think about it too often and it did not really add any reasons for me to do things that I knew I needed to do. I need to do things. Now! How about you?  Any thoughts for the person staring back at you in the mirror about these two “hurdle-sims”?  Thanks for listening.  Please take a few moments to subscribe & share this with someone, also leave a 5 Star rating on Apple Podcasts and ITunes or other services where you find this show.  Find me on Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/coachtoexpectsuccess/   on Twitter / “X”:  @coachtosuccess   and on Instagram at:  @coachjohndaly  - My YouTube Channel is at: Coach John Daly.   Email me at: CoachJohnDalyPodcast@gmail.com     You can also head on over to https://www.coachtoexpectsuccess.com/ and get in touch with me there on my homepage along with checking out my Top Book list too.  Other things there on my site are being worked on too.  Please let me know that you are reaching out to me from my podcast.  ** I would appreciate anyone to try clicking on the top of the show notes where it says "Send us a text" to leave a few thoughts / comments / questions.  It's a new feature that I'd like to see how it works. **

Every Coffee Fest we sit down with presenters and speakers to talk about their field of expertise and learn from their experience in coffee. This last NYC Coffee Fest we were privileged to get to chat with four dynamic professionals and discuss everything from barista education and community, social media strategy, and how to run a world class bakery and coffee bar. We start with Ivana Chan and Rachel Apple of Raise the Bar! Ivana Chan is a marketing and e-commerce consultant who has spent the last seven years helping specialty coffee brands grow by bringing their hospitality online through thoughtful digital strategy. She is also the co-founder of Raise the Bar Coffee, a nonprofit focused on accessible coffee education, mentorship, and community-building, best known for organizing Level Up, an event where baristas connect, learn, and build sustainable careers in coffee Rachel Apple is an esteemed figure in the specialty coffee industry, with over 19 years of comprehensive experience.  Her extensive resume includes pivotal roles as Quality Control for George Howell Coffee, Coffee Buyer & Global Supply Chain Manager, Roaster, Educator, & Barista in addition to being a Legacy Q Grader. She is also the only woman, globally, who is a Cup of Excellence Head Judge & SET Course Instructor. Rachel also serves as a US Barista Championship Head Judge, Sensory Lead, and Committee Member, investing years in volunteer work and leadership in the specialty coffee community – which has recently manifested in co-founding an education focused 501(c)(3) nonprofit Raise the Bar.  Links: https://www.instagram.com/raisethebar_coffee/   Next we get to learn about winning social media strategy from Birch Coffee's Jeremy Lyman!  Jeremy Lyman is the co-founder of Birch Coffee, a New York City-based coffee company. Since its first store opened in 2009, the company has grown to become one of New York City's premiere and most loved independent coffee shop chains. With more than a dozen locations throughout the city, the focus of Birch is on customer service. Service is something Jeremy believed was lacking in the Specialty Coffee industry and being that both he and his partner Paul are consumers first and worked in bars and restaurants for years before, they realized that this was what was necessary to stand out in the industry. In order to grow the company, Jeremy has overseen the development of not only a high level of service, but methods in which to hone and develop those skills amongst his teams. Jeremy, Paul, and their team have also figured out creative ways to stand out. From eliminating wifi and introducing conversation starters to designing extraordinarily unique napkins, they have caught the eye of the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and Forbes who have paid specific attention to these differentiators. Links: https://www.instagram.com/coffeedogguy/ www.birchcoffee.com https://www.instagram.com/birchcoffee/ Finally we discuss baking, pastry, and coffee excellence with Lauren Tran! Lauren Tran is the chef-owner of Bánh by Lauren in Chinatown, New York City. She blends her Seattle upbringing and love for coffee culture with a deep-rooted passion for Vietnamese flavors and desserts. After working at fine-dining icons Canlis, Momofuku Ko, and Gramercy Tavern, Lauren started selling pastries out of her apartment during the pandemic. Bánh by Lauren was hosted for pop-ups for four years before opening a brick and mortar bakery cafe in NYC's Manhattan Chinatown in June 2024. The New York Times ranked her shop among the top 22 bakeries in the U.S., T Magazine named her bánh bò nướng as one of the 25 essential pastries to eat in NYC, and Bánh by Lauren is a 2026 James Beard Award semifinalist for Outstanding Bakery. APR. 22, 2026Raise the bar."Jonathan..David's brother, killed him."2Sa 21:21 NIVAfter David killed Goliath, four other men, including his nephew Jonathan, killed giants that rose up against the Israelites. "In still another battle, which took place at Gath, there was a huge man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot— twenty-four in all. He was also descended from Rapha. When he taunted Israel, Jonathan son of Shimeah, David's brother, killed him" (2Sa 21:20-21 NIV). David had raised the bar. Witnessing the defeat of what others had previously deemed impossible gave them the strength to overcome their own giants. Until 1954, no one had ever run a mile in under four minutes, and most people assumed it was virtually impossible. But on May 6, 1954, at an Oxford University track meet, Roger Bannister completed the distance in 3 minutes and 59.4 seconds. He had slain the giant. Two months later, Australian John Landy broke Bannister's record, proving that the four-minute mile was as much a psychological as a physical barrier. In the first half of the twentieth century, many people attempted to climb Mount Everest and failed. It was the unconquerable giant in the world of mountain climbers. On May 29, 1953, Edmund Hillary and his Sherpa guide, Tenzing Norgay, were the first humans to reach the summit. Since then, over seven thousand climbers, ranging from age thirteen to eighty, have completed the expedition. David, Bannister, and Hillary all conquered giants of their day and inspired others to match and excel in their feats. You do yourself and others a disservice when you run from your giant. You need to stop being afraid to tackle hard tasks and remind yourself, "If God did it before, He can do it again, and if He did it for others, He can do it for me."Raise the bar Stop being afraid.Share This DevotionalSend us Fan MailSupport the showChanging Lives | Building Strong Family | Impacting Our Community For Jesus Christ!

This is an Engage Alert with a critical update regarding contract negotiations and an important strategic development. Next week, opening proposals are to be exchanged, marking a major milestone in the Section 6 process and the beginning of the next phase for Delta pilots. In this episode, MEC Chairman Captain Eric Criswell and Negotiating Committee Chairman Captain Bill Finlay join us to outline the strategy, priorities, and expectations moving forward - including the announcement of a more accelerated and focused negotiation path. The union is pursuing an approach centered on a concise set of high-value priorities targeting pay, retirement, and quality of life, with the goal of delivering significant and meaningful gains on a shorter timeline. But one message is clear: Early does not mean discounted. Any agreement must meet pilot expectations and stand on its own value, regardless of timing. If that standard is not met, the MEC is fully prepared to pivot to a more traditional, comprehensive approach. This conversation also addresses: Why this strategy is being pursued now How pilot feedback is directly shaping priorities What happens if the Company doesn't engage Lessons learned from past negotiations What pilots should expect in the months ahead Both Captain Criswell and Captain Finlay make this clear: Delta pilots are firmly in the driver's seat. This is a deliberate strategy designed to capture value sooner without sacrificing leverage or outcomes. Stay informed. Stay engaged.

Raise the Bar Without Losing the Room: How Leaders Increase Standards the Right Way

Recruiting Conversations

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 17, 2026 6:22

Every growing leader eventually faces this tension. You know the standard needs to rise. You see the gaps in accountability. You know the team is capable of more. But the moment you think about tightening expectations, a fear creeps in. Will people think I've changed? Will morale drop? Will they stop liking me? In this episode of Recruiting Conversations, we tackle one of the most common leadership fears: how to raise standards without becoming the bad guy. Because the truth is simple. Raising standards doesn't damage culture. Avoiding them eventually does. Episode Breakdown [00:00] The Leadership Tension As teams grow, expectations must grow with them. The challenge is doing it in a way that protects trust while elevating performance. [01:00] The Real Risk Leaders Miss Low or drifting standards slowly erode culture. High performers feel it first. They start asking themselves: Why am I pushing so hard if others are coasting? Over time, resentment builds and excellence becomes optional. The problem isn't raising the bar. The problem is letting it drift. [01:50] Five Ways to Raise Standards Without Becoming the Bad Guy 1. Anchor Standards to Vision If higher expectations feel personal, people will take them personally. But when standards are clearly tied to the vision you've cast, they become purpose-driven. You are not raising the bar because you are frustrated. You are raising it because of what you are building. 2. Apply Standards Universally Nothing destroys morale faster than inconsistent enforcement. If some people get a pass because they are senior, likable, or high producing while others are held accountable, resentment builds quickly. Transparency protects you here. Clear expectations. Clear metrics. Clear behaviors. 3. Communicate Before You Enforce One of the biggest mistakes leaders make is waiting until frustration forces the conversation. Instead, communicate changes proactively. Explain what is changing and why. Give the team a runway to adjust. When people understand what is coming, they are far more likely to embrace it. 4. Pair Higher Standards With Higher Support If expectations rise but support stays the same, it feels like pressure. But when expectations rise alongside coaching, systems, and clarity, it feels like leadership. Support might include: More structured coaching Better playbooks Stronger onboarding Clearer systems The message becomes: I am not just asking more of you. I am equipping you to succeed. 5. Check Your Leadership Identity If your identity is built around being liked, raising standards will always feel uncomfortable. But if your identity is built around helping people grow and protecting the vision, standards become an act of care. Discipline and clarity are not the opposite of kindness. They are expressions of it. Key Takeaways Drifting Standards Slowly Kill Culture – High performers notice it first Vision Justifies Accountability – Standards make sense when tied to purpose Consistency Protects Trust – Uneven enforcement creates resentment Support Must Rise With Expectations – Leadership equips people to succeed Growth Requires Courage – Leadership is not about comfort, it is about progress Here is the reality most leaders eventually discover. When you raise standards, some people will resist. That does not mean you are the bad guy. It means you are revealing alignment. And the people who truly care about excellence, growth, and building something meaningful will respect you for it. Need Help Resetting Standards on Your Team? If you are in a season where you need to raise expectations, realign performance, or reset culture, it can be helpful to talk it through with someone who has helped leaders navigate it before. You can book time directly on Richard's calendar to discuss: How to raise accountability without damaging trust How to communicate new standards clearly How to protect morale while protecting culture How to recruit and retain people who thrive under higher expectations Visit bookrichardnow.com and schedule a time that works for you. Leadership is not about making everyone comfortable. It is about building something meaningful. And sometimes that starts by raising the bar.

You never know when your moment will come.Discipline comes from knowing your why - Connect deeply to the reason behind your goals. When you know why, the how becomes easier.Emotional self-care is the missing piece - You can have clean eating and exercise down, but without emotional self-care tools, sustainable transformation remains elusive.Do it in community, not isolation - The magic happens in sisterhood. Accountability partners and shared vulnerability create breakthroughs that solo efforts can't.Ask yourself daily: "Who am I being?" - This simple filter can shift your attitude and actions in real-time, helping you align with the person you want to become.Memorable Quotes"I could see this me that was zinging with purpose and passion. I wanted to be her, and I could see her and I believed in her and she was calling me. So, I had no choice. I went." "Success is when preparedness meets opportunity. We have to do that even when you don't have evidence of success yet. We just have to believe it's there because we're all just one decision away." "When women come to me and say, I want to lose weight, they're not saying that they think that's the problem, but weight is a symptom and typically it's a symptom of a deeper unaddressed trauma." You might have to have a huge cross-functional meeting, you might have to present to the board … [but] the most important thing is your team and your ability as a leader to remove barriers and let them go and be creative and inspired.” That philosophy guides Regan as the SVP of Commercial Marketing for Moët Hennessy USA, where her portfolio includes Dom Perignon, Hennessy, Veuve Clicquot, and other iconic brands. In an industry where luxury is defined by small acts of service and hospitality, Regan's team works to ensure every consumer interaction creates a memory. Today on Building Better CMOs, Regan and MMA Global CEO Greg Stuart discuss the complexity of bringing brand strategy to life at the point of purchase, the importance of leading with emotional intelligence, and how relentless focus and team consistency helped build the Aperol Spritz into a global phenomenon. They also explore the balance between data-driven insights and cultural intuition, why storytelling matters as much as the product itself, and how historic brands evolve while honoring their heritage. This isn't just inefficient—it's eroding trust in our profession. In a marketplace where clients are more informed, competition is tighter, and expectations are higher than ever, the role of the real estate agent has never been under more scrutiny.     The days of coasting on a license, a business card, and a few listings are long gone. Today's buyers and sellers demand expertise, innovation, and true value—and the agents who don't rise to the occasion risk being left behind. Scaling UP! H2O

Scaling UP! H2O

What if preventing Legionella outbreaks wasn't about adding more chemicals, but removing what the bacteria needs to survive? In this episode of Scaling UP! H2O, host Trace Blackmore talks with Dr. David Krause, Certified Industrial Hygienist, toxicologist, and founder of HC3, about his groundbreaking approach — LIDO (Legionella Inhibition by Deoxygenation). Legionella on the Rise  Dr. Krause has investigated high-profile Legionella outbreaks and seen firsthand how current prevention strategies often fall short. Despite ASHRAE 188 standards, CMS requirements, and increasing water management plan adoption, Legionella cases continue to climb — often due to infrastructure issues, insufficient monitoring, and a lack of evidence-based guidance.  Inside an Outbreak Investigation  From the first call at 4:30 on a Friday to the coordination between local health departments, state agencies, and the CDC, Krause explains the rigorous (and sometimes chaotic) process of pinpointing outbreak sources. He also reveals why public communication can make or break an outbreak response.  Introducing LIDO Technology  Rather than relying solely on chemical disinfection, LIDO uses gas transfer membrane contactors to remove dissolved oxygen from hot water systems. Legionella can't thrive below 0.3 ppm DO — meaning systems treated with LIDO create an inhospitable environment for growth. Krause shares lab results, pilot project findings, and how this approach could extend system life while reducing corrosion and byproducts. The Bigger Picture  This episode goes beyond technology — it's about rethinking water management, building better outbreak communication, and challenging industry norms. (00:05.196) Welcome to the brand new Raise The Bar podcast with yours truly Seth Bradley. This is the show for real estate investors, capital raisers, and entrepreneurs who are ready to take their game to the highest level. If you've been following me for a while, you know this isn't my first rodeo, but we're making a big shift. And today I'm going to break it all down for you. So first, why the rebrand? Why now?   and most importantly, what's in it for you. So let's dive in. So why the rebrand? If you've been rocking with me since the Passive Income Attorney Podcast, first off, cheers to you. Thank you so much. Really appreciate it. It's changed my life for the better, and I hope it's changed for yours too. Our show is all about helping high income professionals escape the golden handcuffs, start building wealth through passive investing, and it was a killer show. Tons of incredible conversations. But over time,   I realized something. I wasn't just helping attorneys and I wasn't just talking about passive income. I was teaching people how to build a business, how to raise capital, how to structure deals, and how to build legacy wealth. So I had to ask myself, is my brand serving the people I want to serve? And the answer was clear. It was actually yes, but I needed to go bigger, bolder, more direct, and that's how Raise the Bar was born. This show is all about raising standards, raising capital,   and raising the bar on how you build your wealth in your business. I still love and believe in passive investing, but now we're also getting tactical and strategic, providing you with ways to explore active capital raising and entrepreneurship. So you can stop playing small and you can start operating like a real pro. So who am I and why should you listen? I'm Seth Bradley. I'm a securities attorney and a real estate entrepreneur.   who has closed billions of dollars in real estate transactions over the past decade plus. I'm a former big law attorney turned boutique securities law firm founder of RaiseLaw, and additionally, I'm the chief legal officer of TribeBest. I'm the co-founder of Klaviss and StackRack Battery Systems, and also the managing partner of Law Capital Partners. I've closed every kind of real estate transaction you can imagine, from house hacking into a duplex, to closing hundreds of syndications and funds. I've built businesses, I've raised millions,   Seth Bradley, Esq. (02:29.92) and worked with some of biggest names in the game. But here's the thing. I didn't start off in this world. I grew up deep in the mountains of West Virginia. No silver spoon, no family connections in real estate or finance, just grit, hustle, and the willingness to learn. And the willingness to take risks that most people were too scared to take. I walked away from the traditional path. I gave up the cushy, multiple six-figure, big law firm job. I broke free from the golden handcuffs and went   all in on building wealth through alternative investments, capital raising, and entrepreneurship. And now, I help entrepreneurs just like you do the exact same thing. Who is this podcast for? If you're a real estate investor, a capital raiser, or an entrepreneur, or interested in any of those things, if you're interested in raising capital, structuring deals, building a real business, and raise the bar in your life, you're in the right place. If you're ready to ditch the limiting beliefs,   to raise more capital and start thinking like the top 1 % that you are, you belong right here. Let me tell you a quick story. So I was flying high in a big law firm, prestigious law firm, big paycheck, fancy title, all that kind of stuff. But behind the scenes, I was absolutely miserable. I had no control over my time, my future, my life. Then one day I was involuntarily shown the exit. I was fired, just like that. Gut punch.   Looking back, it was the best thing that ever happened to me. Because that was the moment I realized, if you're not all in, whether that's a big law firm job, your W-2, whatever it might be, you're going nowhere. That experience forced me to commit 100 % to my own entrepreneurial path. No more safety nets, that was gone. No more playing it safe. So I went all in on real estate, capital raising, entrepreneurship, buying businesses, and I never looked back.   And that's what this show is all about. It's about going all in, raising your standards, raising your game, raising the bar. Not just for yourself, but for everybody around you. And if you're ready to level up, stick around because we're about to take things to another level. Raise the bar structure to give you a mix of high impact content, balancing deep dives, expert insights, short tactical takeaways. And here's the quick breakdown. Million Dollar Mondays, Quick Hit Insights.   Seth Bradley, Esq. (04:56.288) how top entrepreneurs, investors, capital raisers make and keep and scale millions. RTB Live, Q &A Tuesdays, guest appearances, top podcast interviews on When I'm on Other People's Shows, webinars, live speaking events, direct audience Q &As, send me your questions. And of course, the main episode will air on Wednesdays. Deep dive solo episodes for high impact guest interviews, breaking down success, capital raising, entrepreneurship.   On Fridays, we're going to do the 1 % closer, close out your week, fast-paced, short, taxable episodes, focus on closing deals, raising capital, leveling up to get you to be the top 1 % that you are. As we grow, we'll refine and evolve, of course, but right now, that's the game plan to help you level up fast. If you're ready to stop playing small, start raising the bar on your business and your life, hit that subscribe button, and make sure you don't miss that one show, that one single show,   It's going to make a massive impact on your life.
