Today on The Neil Haley Show, Neil Haley interviews Micah Brown. Hard work has never been a stranger to Micah Brown, a former two-sport athlete in both football and track at the University of Kansas. After dropping a track scholarship to walk on for football, he became the hero of the 2008 Orange Bowl team by catching a game-saving first down off a fake punt. The catch earned Micah a scholarship, and helped secure KU their first BCS Championship. After graduating with a degree in filmmaking, Micah landed a job editing movie trailers at The Refinery AV in Burbank, California. During that time, he collaborated with some of the top creative minds in the industry on movie campaigns such as Date Night, Knight and Day, and the A-Team. Micah's love for sports called him back to Lawrence as he returned to his Alma mater to produce an all-access web series for Kansas Football called The Gridiron. The series quickly became a fan favorite amongst Jayhawk Nation and was recognized on a larger stage by winning back-to-back regional Emmy's for Best Regularly Scheduled Sports Program.

He was always the best. Until Josh McDaniels told him he wasn't. At the age of 9, Jarvis Moss set his sights on playing in the NFL. He achieved that goal as the Denver Broncos first round draft pick in 2007. Mike Shanahan even moved up to get the defensive end coming off a BCS Championship with Florida under Urban Meyer. Everyone had high expectations for Jarvis, including himself. Afterall, he'd made it through so much get to the NFL. For instance, when he was being recruited in high school, Jarvis stepped onto a plane for the first time and went by himself for his college visits. Not because his parents didn't support him, but because they were both incarcerated. The NFL was tough. His rookie season, Jarvis broke his shin, went on injured reserve and to top off the pressure meter, became a dad. In November of 2010, he was cut and when he was done with football a year later, he was disgruntled with the game and wanted nothing to do with it. Until his son started playing. Today, Jarvis is an assistant coach at Cherry Creek High School where Noah is a freshman. He also helps coach with Phenom Academy a sports academy within the Phenom Phoundation, a non-profit organization.

Tony Barnhart takes us on a trip through some of his favorite memories covering college football for more than four decades. Mr. College Football tells us about Herschel Walker, Bo Jackson, Tim Tebow, and other legendary players. He shares insight about coaches Steve Spurrier and Vince Dooley. Tony examines how SEC expansion in the early 1990s led to today's conference realignment. He recalls the greatest game he ever covered: Texas over USC for the BCS Championship in the Rose Bowl. Hear some college hoops history, too, as Tony recounts North Carolina State's upset of Phi Slama Jama. Barnhart will be covering his 46th season of college football in 2022 for newspapers, TV, radio and the internet. He has been with the SEC Network since its launch in 2014, writing columns for SECSports.com and contributing to the network's studio programming. Tony became known as Mr. College Football during his 25-year tenure at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution from 1984 to 2008. He was the Georgia beat reporter for two years before becoming the paper's college sports editor in July '87. Twice a week, he hosted a TV show “Talking Football” from Atlanta on the regional cable network Comcast Sports Southeast. While serving as the Journal-Constitution's national college football writer, Tony began contributing to ESPN's coverage of the sport beginning in 1993. He started appearing as a regional beat reporter for that network's “Halftime Blitz,” and began appearing on “College GameDay” in the '97 season. Tony joined the CBS Sports' “College Football Today” in 2004 and regularly contributed to that show until 2013. His career began when he took as job as sports editor at The Union Daily Times in South Carolina days after graduating with a degree in journalism from the University of Georgia in 1976. He then covered ACC football and basketball for eight years at the Greensboro News & Record before moving to Atlanta. He has covered 33 national football championships and 23 Final Fours. The Bulldogs are coached by Kirby Smart, who was an assistant to Saban at Alabama before moving to Athens, Georgia.Alabama and Georgia met in a BCS Championship game years back and it is best remembered for Saban switching from Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa and the Tide wound up downing the Dawgs on a TD pass in overtime. In a Locker Room Talk that pokes fun at the double-talk of the CFP Committee. Joe & I look at CFP Chairman Barta's words of "forget what you saw on the field" when justifying ranking Michigan over Michigan State when Michigan State beat Michigan and give retroactive championships to teams in various sports that were "a better team" than the team that beat them i.e. The U is the winner of the 2001 BCS Championship because they were much "better" than Ohio St., just forget that you saw on the field. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dan-n-joesportsshow/support

Week 17 NFL, and OSU vs Clemson plus the BCS Championship.
The "Deep South's Oldest Rivalry' will be renewed once again this week so we thought it would be a perfect time to go back seven years to one of the most unlikely Hail Mary plays we've ever witnessed in college football. The setting was Jordan-Hare Stadium on the campus of Auburn University during the 2013 college football season. The Georgia Bulldogs traveled to the plains featuring the dynamic backfield of Aaron Murray and Todd Gurley while the Auburn Tigers were making magic in year one under Gus Malzahn. With SEC Championship and BCS Championship implications on the line, all eyes were watching this CBS afternoon broadcast expecting a slugfest. What we got was much more. This could be one of the great SEC games of all-time with everything that happened over the course of 60 minutes. But it will all be remembered by a Nick Marshall pass to Ricardo Louis that got deflected and fell right into his hands for a 73-yard game-winning touchdown. Join us as we go through this game again and talk about everything that happened in this 2013 classic, including: Malzahn's first season bringing Auburn back from disaster Nick Marshall's path to get to Auburn SEC standings heading into this week Just how good was Aaron Murray? The Tigers perfect start to the game Mark Richt personal foul penalty Georgia with a comeback for the ages The stupidest play in college football How this game impacted the rest of the season Is Gus Malzahn still at Auburn without this win? Does Alabama three-peat if the Tigers lose to Georgia? There's so much to talk about and so much we forgot about with this rivalry game. You can watch the full game and read more on our website here: https://distantreplaypodcast.com/ep-45-2013-cfb-25-georgia-7-auburn/ Until next week, check us out on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.

We continue our review of historical blood weeks with a trip to Thanksgiving Week, 2010. Ralph Friedgen was still at Maryland. Mike Stoops was still at Arizona. Dabo and Clemson went 6-7! These were different times, but that does not mean there was an absence of ranking upheaval, even if it cost us one of our best shots at a non-power making the BCS Championship.
I played in the Orange Bowl, the BCS Championship game at the time, on Jan 3, 2001. After the game about 2AM I went to Denny's at 2AM to eat with my best friend and my brother in law. We had won the game and I was a team captain. No one really seemed to care , I was just another customer. In that moment I learned a valuable lesson, a leader shouldn't make a big deal about himself.A great leader gives praise to those he leaders and absorbs all criticism for failures. Don't let winning and losing define you as a leader/coach. Who you are is so much more than a score on the scoreboard. As a leader/coach you are the lead servant. Serving those you lead, doing whatever it takes to help the team succeed.
