As mentioned, bra and underwear Thingies incoming! Chantal absolutely swears by the Tom Bra from the brand Mary Jo, and Lauren likes bras from Only Hearts, Notori Bliss underwear, and Bombas UItra Stretch Calf Socks. Also, shoutout to Le Bon Shoppe's Her Socks. Misc. Thingies include Chantal's go-to assassin's pasta and Lauren's rejection of (most) kids' music. Want more of Lauren and Chantal? Lauren writes Puck's Line Sheet newsletter and hosts the companion podcast Fashion People, and you can find Chantal's writing in The Cut (see: “The Unbranding of Abercrombie”), for starters. Friends, you gotta read Selling Sexy: Victoria's Secret and the Unraveling of an American Icon. We are thinking and talking about it a lot, a lot. Ella Risbridger of You Get In Love And Then is also testing crowdsourced soups, and Becca Freeman shared her favorites too. A few of our own favorites: Ottolenghi's curried lentil, tomato, and coconut, 101 Cookbook's red lentil with lemon, Smitten Kitchen's carrot with miso and sesame, Thomas Keller's butternut squash. Week 3 of New Reads November takes a very close, very fun look at Maurene Goo's Throwback. The book inspires conversations about everything from the complicated nature of mother/daughter relationships and empathy between generations to high school homecoming experiences and the tension between conformity and standing out. Alli and her guest also consider who Throwback is meant for and discuss the book's origin story.Becca Freeman is the author of The Christmas Orphans Club and co-host of the Bad on Paper podcast. On a Happy Note For Halloween, Mom & I reprised our Sanderson sister roles. I trick or treated with Hattie for a little while then hung out by the fire with family and friends. Megg & I bought a 5 pack of tickets for shows at the Boston Opera House this season. Our first show was November 1st, Frozen. We were able to add on two tickets and bring Millie and Hattie with us. We had an absolutely magical night! On the Saturday while Mom & I were at New England Fiber Festival, Riley was texting me. She did her first hexi all on her own! Then a couple more! When she ran out of minis, she moved onto her Riley Rose Cowl and sent a photo of her knitting and watching Gilmore Girls. Be still my heart! Watching Gabriella & Zachary for the afternoon. Finally making a dent in my Christmas shopping. My goal the last couple years has been to be completely finished before December 1 so I can really enjoy December. Sometimes I'm better at that than other years, but I'm going to really try hard to get that done by my deadline this year. One of my cousin Lauren's friends from Amsterdam gifted me a pack of Stroopwafels which I enjoyed with coffee in my new chicken mug from NE Fiber Fest! We went to Flight Club in Seaport District of Boston for Conor's 35th Birthday- just after I found out he and Carly are expecting their first baby in June (right around my. birthday)! Ahh, low-rise jeans, frizzy blowouts, and women's magazines making tons of advertising cash instead of slowly sinking into the sea… we love to see it. It's the final week of our Summer Lovin' series, and while we're sad that it's coming to a close, we're overjoyed to have our final summer fling be with a truly iconic early ‘00s romcom: ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.' Joining us to recap this Kate Hudson / Matthew McConaughey romance is Becca Freeman, co-host of the Bad on Paper podcast and the co-creator of the RomCom Pods podcast. We're doing a live online show with Moment House on Sunday, July 10! Tickets are on sale now at momenthouse.com/lovetoseeit.
I am such a fan of RomCom Pods that I'm thrilled to chat with the creators, Becca Freeman and Rachael King. We chat about how they got started, feelings of imposter syndrome, their female partnership and of course, all things rom-coms. Plus, as longtime professional podcasters, they give some advice on how to start a successful podcast. Leave this conversation feeling brave, feeling creative and feeling inspired to make courageous choices. .....#feelthegoodpodcastFollow Shawl on Instagram/Twitter: @shawlinivmhWebsite: https://www.shawlinivmh.com/Transcripts Available: https://www.shawlinivmh.com/ftg-transcriptsFollow RomCom Pods Instagram/Twitter: @romcompods https://www.facebook.com/groups/romcompods/Follow Becca Freeman: Instagram/Twitter: @beccamfreemanFollow Rachael King: Instagram/Twitter: @rachaelgkingFollow Pod People Instagram/Twitter: @podppl, @pod_ppl *Spread the Good to your local animal shelter and support teacher wishlists.

SSR is back for year TWO, and we're kicking things off with a conversation about the first book in Francine Pascal's beloved Sweet Valley High series, Double Love. In this episode, we (sadly) reveal a lot of problematic messages in the book about sexuality, class, privilege, and relationships. We also dive into the emphasis that these characters place on physical appearances and on the lack of female empowerment we see in Sweet Valley. There's a hilarious game of FMK, a little Jessica vs. Elizabeth debating, and reflections on our own awkward teen years and misguided fashion choices. Thanks so much to Grace Atwood and Becca Freeman, hosts of the Bad on Paper podcast, for joining Alli for Episode 54! Follow Bad on Paper (@badonpaperpodcast), Grace (@graceatwood), and Becca (@beccamfreeman) on Instagram, and be sure to check out more content from Grace on The Stripe.
In today's Books with Hooks, Carly and CeCe are joined by listener, Jessica, while they critique and discuss her query letter and pages. They discuss the need for the level of external plot to match the level of interiority; specificity to create an 'atmosphere' around your novel; how women's fiction readers feel about swearing in a novel; and creating a sense of believability and plausibility in your work. After which, Carly interviews Becca Freeman, author of The Christmas Orphans Club. During the segment, the two discuss the origins of Becca's prologue and her reasoning behind having one; she discusses her use of contextual cues in writing a historical setting and explains her choice of an 'A' plot; fitting friendship stories into commercial fiction genres; the integration of cellphones and the internet into a novel; and Becca's own experience podcasting.Find us on our socials:Twitter: @TSNOTYAW @BiancaM_author @carlywatters @ceciliaclyra Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the_shit_about_writing/ https://www.instagram.com/biancamarais_author/https://www.instagram.com/carlywatters/ https://www.instagram.com/cece_lyra_agent/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TSNOTYAWWebsites: www.theshitaboutwriting.com, www.biancamarais.com, www.carlywatters.com and www.cecilialyra.comBookshop.org affiliate page: https://bookshop.org/shop/theshitnoonetellsyouaboutwritingBecca can be found on Instagram at: https://www.instagram.com/beccamfreeman/ and athttps://badonpaperpodcast.com/aboutOur Sponsors:* Check out Factor 75 and use my code tsnotyaw50 for a great deal: https://www.factor75.com/* Check out Rosetta Stone and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.rosettastone.com/Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands
