How did an international trade and finance student from Mexico come to head up Red Bank New Jersey's Navesink Country Club's Racquet Program? It's a long and winding road, but one that is full of insights into the private members club industry. Victor Vidal knew he was not suited to work behind a desk. As Navesink's Director of Racquets, Vidal runs a year-round program boasting tennis, platform tennis and pickleball. With a team of 5 certified professionals and four collegiate players along with a retail manager, Victor is on the courts, but as his staff grows, his time behind that desk grows also. Victor started his career at the famed Belle Haven Yacht Club in Greenwich, CT. Belle Haven has one of the most active tennis programs in the country. Born in Mexico, he soon realized that yacht clubs can be a misnomer with racquets, rather than sailing, the main source of revenue after food and beverage. Racquets usually provides one of the biggest revenue streams at a yacht club – not always so at a country club, where racquets tends to be an add on, or an amenity, says Vidal. Family Time Imposing Itself On Summer Activities Either way, whether its golf, sailing or racquets, family time is shortening the activity or experience at private members clubs. “One o'clock is pushing it…” says Vidal when holding a tournament. “Folks like to start at 8.30am and be done by 1pm and move on to family activities.” The era of weekend-long tournaments on the tennis courts at least, might be over. Programming follows the same suit. Live Ball has become Victor's most popular clinic program. It's an hour and a half, non-stop tennis, which gets the member to hit “a ton of balls” in a short amount of time, fitting into their weekend schedule. And “105” will be the new focal point for the upcoming summer. With lights on the court, Victor has more social-focused clinic programming in the evenings with adult beverages to follow. Although he doesn't always enjoy his time behind the desk, Victor is limiting his hours on the court. He still relishes his time on the court. He enjoys mentoring his staff when he is off the court. He tends to look for those who want to stay in the industry as possible candidates. “I want them to move up and spread their wings,” says Victor. That's how we make our industry better.
On the night before Halloween in 1975, Martha Moxley, a vibrant 15-year-old, set out to spend the evening with friends and neighbors in the upscale community of Belle Haven, Greenwich, Connecticut. By the following morning, the quiet neighborhood would be forever scarred. Martha's lifeless body was found in her backyard, brutally murdered with a golf club—a crime so shocking it reverberated across the nation. In the days following her death, investigators were faced with a tangled web of leads. What began as a local tragedy quickly unraveled into a case that highlighted the sharp divide between privilege and justice. The focus soon turned to the Skakel family, neighbors of the Moxleys and relatives of the Kennedy clan. Reports indicated Martha had spent her final evening with the Skakel brothers, Michael and Thomas, both of whom became central figures in the investigation. As the case developed, whispers of influence and power began to overshadow the pursuit of justice. Despite mounting suspicion and evidence, including accounts of inconsistent alibis and troubling behavior from members of the Skakel family, the investigation stalled. For years, the case remained cold, leaving Martha's family and the community in anguish, haunted by the lack of accountability. Over the decades, the case would resurface, each time with renewed attention and controversy. In 2000, Michael Skakel, the nephew of Ethel Kennedy, was arrested and charged with Martha's murder. His trial captivated the public as prosecutors laid out a timeline implicating Michael, citing his alleged confession to a classmate years earlier. Convicted in 2002, he was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison. However, this was far from the resolution many had hoped for. In the years following his conviction, Michael Skakel's legal team challenged the verdict, citing insufficient representation and procedural flaws. In 2013, his conviction was overturned, and he was released on bail. The case remains a contentious topic, with ongoing debates about guilt, privilege, and the elusiveness of justice. Originally recorded and release as EP 52 and EP 53 in January 2023. On October 31, 1975, around 12:15 in the afternoon, Sheila McGuire, a teenager living in the exclusive Belle Haven community in Greenwich, Connecticut, was walking from her house to her friend Martha Moxley's to invite her to go downtown that day. To get to her friend's house, she cut through a wooded section of their backyard. She spotted underneath the low-hanging branches of a pine tree what looked like a sleeping bag lying on top of a foam mattress. As she continued to walk closer, she was able to see that it was the partially clothed body of her friend, Martha Moxley. Martha Moxley was a 15-year-old high school sophomore who was murdered on October 30, 1975 in Greenwich, Connecticut. Moxley was last seen alive at the home of the Skakel family, across the street from her home in Belle Haven. The case drew international attention because two of the suspects were relatives of Ethel Skakel Kennedy, Robert Kennedy's widow. Retired FBI agent Jodi Weber joins me to discuss the case. As we move into 2023, the global economy remains in flux. Despite some signs of recovery, uncertainty continues to dominate the financial markets, and investors are increasingly looking for a safe haven to protect their money. What are some of the investment strategies that can help investors manage risk and maximize returns? In this episode, Rusty and Robyn talk with Stanley Sattler, Director of Investment Solutions at Belle Haven Investments. In his role, Stanley is responsible for operating as a liaison between the investment team and Belle Haven's strategic partners. His primary duties are business development through supporting advisors and consultants across the country. Stanley is motivated by learning about clients' needs and wants to help ensure that their investments receive the attention they deserve. It was Halloween morning, October 31st 1975, when the bludgeoned body of 15 year old Martha Moxley was found in the back of her wealthy family's estate in Belle Haven, Connecticut. Her 15 year old neighbor Michael Skakel, a relative of the Kennedy dynasty, was a prime suspect but would go uncharged for more than 25 years until 2002 when he was convicted for the murder. He went to prison after a sentencing of 20 years to life, but now he's out and exonerated. What happened!? Who is the killer? It's a mesmerizing case of wealth, privilege and ultimately getting away with murder. ★Enjoy!★★PLEASE SHARE Homicide Inc. with your friends! Like True Crime? The world lost a mighty voice on Friday, September 18th. On this episode we celebrate the life and legacy of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg. Though she seemed quiet and shy, Ruth was brilliant with a quick mind and a big heart. When Ruth learned about lawyers who worked to ensure people were treated fairly, she dreamed of becoming one. She was determined to make the world a more equal place for women, men, immigrants, and people of color. And she did just that, first as a lawyer, and then as a judge. Ruth made history as a voice for oppressed people in America and as “The Great Dissenter” on the U.S. Supreme Court. This is a discussion about the murder of Martha Moxley. Martha Moxley was murdered on October 30 1976, in Belle Haven, a small gated community in Greenwich Connecticut. This Summer we're reuniting with the stories of some of our favorite Rebel Girls. This week, Ruth Bader Ginsburg.Once upon a time, there was a girl with a mighty voice. Her name was Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Supreme Court.About the Narrator:Priscilla Chan is co-founder of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. It's always a pleasure whenever a Grammy Award Winning artist joins us on the podcast but none have been as fun and energetic as Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale who is this week's special guest co-host and she is ready to chat all things Vicious, the band's fourth studio album which saw the Nashville natives recruiting heavy music (and Halestorm) fan Nick Raskulinecz who was more than willing to whip the awesome foursome into shape, whilst also being a bit self-indulgent in helping them make the album he (as a fan) wanted to hear. Lzzy also reveals some of the major struggles she has faced being the frontwoman for a rock band including (jokingly) finding a clean bathroom when you're surrounded by male only bandmates and crew and on a more serious side how industry people didn't accept or take her seriously until she made it, something she didn't buy into too much, but would always be in the back of her mind. There's also a shit-tonne of New Music on the playlist including Thrice, Atticus Chimps and mother-fuckin Beartooth who officially announced their new Disease this week, as well as the new Australian supergroup Wither featuring members of Belle Haven, Dream On, Dreamer and Pridelands. On a spectacularly spooky and seasonal Halloween edition of After Hours AM/The Criminal Code — True Crime with hosts Joel Sturgis, Eric Olsen, and secret weapon, forensic psychologist Dr. Clarissa Cole — we examine four sensational crimes committed on Halloween as profiled and analyzed by Dr. Cole. In the show’s first hour we review recent Halloweentime crimes in the headlines. Be sure to stop by Dr. Cole’s site The Criminal Code for more fabulous writing about heinous deeds. Timothy O’Bryan If you grew up during the 70’s and 80’s, it may be easy for you to remember the panic about adults giving children candy that was somehow sabotaged (razor blades, etc). In fact, it got to the point where many kids only went to more highly controlled Halloween gatherings at churches and between friends/relatives because paranoia had reached such a fever pitch. But was all the fear and suspicion warranted, or was it more urban myth than reality? Unfortunately, on the Halloween of 1974, the unthinkable truly did happen when 8-year-old Timothy O’Bryan died after ingesting poisoned Pixy Stix. Worst of all, it occurred in the small town of Deer Park, Texas, not some large metropolis where crime is somewhat expected. It turned out that the fruity sugar filled Pixys were somehow laced with cyanide. Additionally, when authorities collected the candy from the other O’Bryan children, it was discovered that all of their Pixy Stix had been poisoned as well – they just hadn’t consumed them yet! When the police examined the remaining straws, they discovered that the tops had been carefully opened and some of the candy contents poured out. Then, the top two inches were refilled with potassium cyanide powder. Who committed this heinous act? Martha MoxleyMartha Moxley Martha Moxley, a beautiful blonde teenager from Belle Haven, Connecticut, was last seen on All Hallowed Saints’ Eve at a ne

5 Most Horrifying & True Halloween Stories Halloween is a chance for everyone to dress up, go to parties and get spooked for fun. But every once and awhile, this ominous holiday can bring out the worst in people. While you enjoy playing pretend, for those involved in this list Halloween will never be fun again. Here are 5 of the most horrifying and true Halloween stories. 5. Ronald Clark O' Bryan Nicknamed as the "Candyman," Ronald Clark might have been forgotten by history but his crime has shaped how we celebrate Halloween today. It was Halloween night 1974, the O'Bryan family; Ronald, Timothy, Elizabeth and Ronald's wife went to dinner at Jim Bates house, a family friend. Afterwards, the two O'Bryan and Bates children, accompanied by their dads, went trick or treating. Jim would sit on the sidewalk while the kids and Ronald would approach the door for treats. 4. Eric Copple - Nappa Killings It was early morning of November 1, right after Halloween. Adriane Insogna, an athletic civil engineer, along with her roommate, Leanne Mazzara, a former beauty queen, were brutally stabbed inside their home. In the weeks after the incident, the police were stumped. They found DNA evidence on the scene after one of the victims managed to wound the assailant. 3. Aaron Thomas - The East Coast Rapist Trick or treating is a fun tradition for many Halloween lovers. Kids and even teens participate in the tradition – going door to door in their neighborhood for candy and sweets. However, true to lore, Halloween night can also turn scary. Such was the case for three teenage girls from Prince William County. 2. Martha Moxley It was October 30, 1975, inside the affluent community of Belle Haven in Greenwich, CT, Martha Moxley and her friends were preparing for a night of pranks. It was Halloween, after all. But, the night won't end well for Moxley. After the hijinks in town, Martha and her friends went to the Skakel house. It was only 150 yards from where she lived. The Skakels were an affluent family who was tied to the Kennedy's. Around the neighborhood, the Skakel brothers were famous for being unruly boys. 1. Peter Fabiano Halloween night in 1957, it was a little over 11:00 PM when salon owner, Peter Fabiano's doorbell rang. He thought it was just an errant trick-or-treater, saying as he opened the door, "It's a little late for this, isn't it?" The voice replied "no" and lifted the brown paper bag with both hands then shot Fabiano in the chest. Peter's wife, Betty, found him dying and he was rushed to the hospital but he died on the way. All of these cases have one thing in common – they've made Halloween night memorable and even scarier for all of us. What about you? Are you ready to celebrate Halloween fright night this year?
