Research has found that there is credibility to the term mind-body connection. There is a clear link between our thoughts, feelings, emotions and our physical body. At this point, should we, as a society, stop separating mental health and physical health? Are they not one in the same? Please join us this week as our guest, PACEs Connection's very own Dr. Donielle Prince, discusses the mind-body connection with our host Ingrid Cockhren. Through contributing to and coordinating the PACEs Connection Creating Resilient Communities Accelerator, Donielle will continue PACEs Connection's mission to support the growth of both statewide and local community resilience initiatives. Donielle brings to this work over 20 years' experience as a program evaluator, focused on education, community based youth programming, mental health, and its intersections. Donielle's core expertise is in understanding those elements of programming and initiatives that present challenges, as well as those that yield the potential for change. Donielle's signature evaluation projects included youth development studies, trauma informed training evaluations, and educational equity focused program and curriculum evaluations. Donielle's experience has taught her that evaluation research is above all a communication tool- the ability to examine a program and then organize those findings, a process which helps to bring clarity to a program mission. A well crafted mission then becomes a platform from which to create and sustain tangible change. In the community, Donielle's experience with research, policy and reform is reflected in her deep commitment to advocating for social justice. This work has included youth mentoring, including first-time offending juveniles and foster youth; as well as community based organizing against state violence, educational inequity, and lack of access to mental health supports, particularly for members of marginalized communities- similar to the community where she was raised, in East Palo Alto, CA, located in the “Silicon Valley”. This live, two-hour, in-ring show will air every Saturday night from 8-10 p.m. ET and feature more wrestlers, more stories and more action to super-serve fans. “AEW: Collision” will feature headliners including CM Punk, Thunder Rosa, Powerhouse Hobbs, Samoa Joe, and Andrade El Idolo. In only four years following the launch of “AEW: Dynamite,” AEW's footprint has more than doubled across TNT and TBS. Along with “AEW: Dynamite,” Friday night's “AEW: Rampage,” the recent follow-doc “AEW: All Access,” and now “AEW: Collision,” TNT and TBS deliver the best matches and most entertaining moments in professional wrestling today. AEW has reached 23M total viewers so far this year across all of its shows on TBS and TNT.Thunder Rosa, whose real name Melissa Cervantes, is a Mexican professional wrestler and mixed martial artist. She is known for her high-stakes and hard wrestling style (a mix of American style, Japanese strong style, and Mexican wrestling). She has won several championships, including the AEW Women's World Championship, the NWA Women's World Championship, and the Shine Tag Team Championship. Rosa also owns the Mission Pro Wrestling promotion and has been a strong supporter of women's wrestling. She is the first AEW and NWA world champion born in Mexico, making her the first Mexican world champion in U.S. wrestling. Thunder Rosa has received major accolades, such as Pro Wrestling Illustrated's "Fight of the Year 2021" and is currently ranked #3 on the list of best female wrestlers in the world in Pro Wrestling Illustrated Women's 150.Coming from a rough upbringing, Will Hobbs found his passion for wrestling nurtured when he moved in with his grandparents, who were avid fans. Regaled with tales of the legendary Cow Palace, a venue Hobbs himself would later attend, Hobbs' journey as a young aspiring pro wrestler blossomed. After attending the WCW Superbrawl VIII in 1998, where he had a memorable encounter with Booker T, Hobbs knew his destiny. This led him to the All Pro Wrestling Boot Camp in 2009, where he officially began training for his career.Giving credit to his strong work ethic, determination and perseverance, Hobbs took full advantage of an opportunity borne out of the rarest of circumstances. He made his AEW DARK debut on July 7th. Hobbs returned a week later, receiving more of a showcase in six-man tag action. After appearing on six of the first seven possible DARK cards since his debut, Will Hobbs went on to make his AEW Dynamite debut in mid-August against Darby Allin. This just continued his rapid rise from unknown to AEW prospect. After a few months, Hobbs turned heel and joined Team Taz. Later, they renamed him Powerhouse Hobbs. His 2023 record is 17-4 as he looks to headline TNT's newest night of wrestling. East Palo Alto recently names March 24 at Powerhouse Hobbs Day!

In Episode 102 of the Charity Charge Show, Stephen talks to Lisa Van Dusen, Executive Director of Palo Alto Community Fund, whose mission is to focus on the unique needs of our community and channel charitable giving of local donors to effective organizations that improve the quality of life for everyone in Palo Alto, East Palo Alto and Menlo Park. Stephen and Lisa Van Dusen talk about innovating quickly during the COVID-19 pandemic and trust based philanthropy. Van Dusen has dedicated her career to helping build thriving communities through philanthropy, advocacy, entrepreneurship and media, bringing more than 30 years of cross sector experience to the Palo Alto Community Fund. Previous to joining the Palo Alto Community Fund, Van Dusen was Chief Relationship Officer at Silicon Valley Social Venture Fund (SV2) where she led innovation and learning initiatives that deepened awareness, engagement and giving to address social and environmental challenges in Silicon Valley and globally. Her accomplishments include expanding and diversifying SV2's donor community, introducing field-leading impact investing and spearheading advocacy program offerings. Van Dusen, who has lived in Palo Alto for 35 years, has held a variety of professional and civic leadership positions, including launching two groundbreaking local media ventures—Cable Communications Cooperative of Palo Alto (Cable Co-op) and Palo Alto Online. She revived and co-led Leadership Palo Alto and created and hosted First Person, a video interview series featuring Silicon Valley trailblazers. In addition to her experience as a social entrepreneur, Van Dusen brings expertise in sales, marketing and communications with the Palo Alto Weekly and other organizations. She has served on a variety of nonprofit boards including, Palo Alto Art Center, Planned Parenthood (Golden Gate), WINGS Guatemala and in numerous civic leadership roles. She has been recognized extensively, including as a Silicon Valley Women of Influence, TEDx speaker, Leadership Midpeninsula Senior Fellow and California College of the Arts Leading by Design Fellow. Lisa Van Dusen on trust based philanthropy: In June 2019, our board signed off on a strategic plan that was committing to trust based philanthropy meaning that instead of the dollars that were raised each year going into our endowment that the default would be for the funds to go out the door and pass through grants to nonprofit organizations in our community. Our donors could still specify if they wanted their contribution to go to our endowment but the default would be to get the money out to the organizations making a difference in our community. We believe this would lead to a deeper connection and knowledge exchange with our community, organizations, and other leaders, to connect us with what is going on. I also see it as investing in ourselves as an organization, which I think is really significant. We had great support for this initiative and met our three year plan goal in the first year. Trust base philanthropy is at it's core saying, "here is money, we trust you as an organization to know how to deploy it best." If that is to pay your staff, then that is what you should do, or it's to keep your lights on, use the money for whatever you need. With our strategic plan we are fundamentally choosing, who we who we are betting on as an organization, and trusting them to do what they need.

Along the way, Ad faced many challenges such as having his first performance at a middle school talent show get shot up, and Totally Insane's early financier Mike D getting killed. But Ad kept pushing, working with other stand-out artists like Cougnut and IMP, RBL Posse, and Dre Dog. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/historyofthebay/support

What is it like to be a dad and your first-born son goes off to college? That just happened for Adolfo Guzman-Lopez. He's covered higher education for years at KPCC in Los Angeles, but when his own son moved into his freshman dorm this month, Adolfo was not prepared for the reaction he'd have. And we meet a mom from East Palo Alto who's spent years trying to help her kids cope with anxiety and trauma. They're among a rising number of children across California struggling with their emotional and mental health. KQED's Blanca Torres found that just as before the pandemic, most kids who need help don't get it. But she also discovered what happens when families like Jasmine's can access care. And we end with writer Caroline Hatano's ode to the Japanese American community that once farmed all over Southern California. Her grandfather farmed flowers on the Palos Verdes peninsula for 70 years. This summer, the city of Palos Verdes terminated the lease, closing the last Japanese American farm in the area. Her story comes to us as part of a collaboration with Civil Eats, a daily news source for critical thought about the American food system.
