The guys start the morning off asking "What day is your least favorite day of the week?" It's a Maino & The Mayor Quik Poll. Then the guys start talking about glove box air compressors and jumper cables. And then the "music of sports" comes up and Todd finds the Monday Night Football theme, and the CBS NFL theme from the 60s. Great stuff. Then, we're not saying Nick Slupski is our FAVORITE guest, but he is our favorite guest who always brings in some food! Today's is Beer and Cheese Brats. While he's known for his cheese curds at the farmers market, he's all over the place with great food. Check out The Dog House on Facebook. We wrap the hour with Maino's Morning Birthday Song for Rita in Ripon. The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - got together to talk about an eventful Day 8 of UW spring ball even though the team wasn't in full pads on Thursday. Does that likely mean full pads Saturday starting at 11 am? You would think so, but there's only one way to find that out. The talk started with the weather of the day - beautiful but blustery on the east field sandwiched between Husky Stadium and Lake Washington. As such, it was hard for the quarterbacks to develop much rhythm and timing, but that improved a lot as the day went on. Jeremiah Hunter had a very strong practice on offense, and Elijah Jackson - though wearing yellow on the day to typically signify no contact - had a strong day on defense with a couple of interceptions. And true freshman quarterback Demond Williams continued to show why fans should be excited for this fall - and there were a handful of others the guys mentioned as having stood out during the 150-minute workout. After talk on practice, the chat turned to the transfer portal after a quick break (news of D'Angalo Titialii's commit took place after we recorded this podcast). More players entered the portal Thursday and that trend will continue through April 30. And then that's roughly the same time Washington will look to fill open roster spots, especially along the offensive line. Scott and Chris talked about that process, as well as why things aren't happening as quickly as maybe they were laid out a week ago. There should definitely be more visitors coming for Saturday's practice and Scott will hopefully have a list of who we believe is expected on Montlake this weekend. But as always in the transfer portal era, news chances fast, even by the hour - so be patient! This was recorded on a cold and windy late autumn day at the edge of Medicine Lake in Modoc National Forest, Siskiyou County, California. At the location beside the lake where this was recorded, shards of ice that looked like broken plate glass were piled up along the shore. This occurred sometime in the days prior, when the lake had frozen over and the thin ice was broken up by wind and blown across the surface of the lake to its edge, where it accumulated into a long pile which stretched for several hundred feet along the shoreline. As the biting wind blew unobstructed across the frozen lake, it caused the icy surface to flex and move, making an abundance of cracking, crunching, creaking, crackling, snapping, and popping sounds in the piled ice shards at the lakes edge, as well as the sound of water moving and gurgling just beneath the ice. I made this recording using the wind protection I recently made for my Wildtronics SAAM microphone. The mic was directly in the path of the strong and gusty wind, and without the wind protection the recording would have been ruined by wind noise overwhelming the mic. The materials I used to make the wind protection were paid for in part with contributions from listeners, to whom I am extremely grateful. Thank you! The cold winter snap has many of us staying inside trying to stay warm. Join Julie Potiker as she leads you in this guided meditation to help get you through these blustery days.White-Eyes by Mary OliverIn winter all the singing is in the tops of the trees where the wind-bird with its white eyes shoves and pushes among the branches. Like any of us he wants to go to sleep, but he's restless— he has an idea, and slowly it unfolds from under his beating wings as long as he stays awake. But his big, round music, after all, is too breathy to last. So, it's over. In the pine-crown he makes his nest, he's done all he can. I don't know the name of this bird, I only imagine his glittering beak tucked in a white wing while the clouds— which he has summoned from the north— which he has taught to be mild, and silent— thicken, and begin to fall into the world below like stars, or the feathers of some unimaginable bird that loves us, that is asleep now, and silent— that has turned itself into snow.White-Eyes, by Mary OliverFind out more about using mindfulness in everyday life through Julie's books, "SNAP: From Calm to Chaos", and "Life Falls Apart, But You Don't have To: Mindful Methods for Staying Calm in the Midst of Chaos". Blustery late winter nights are perfect for retelling old stories. Tonight we listen again with new ears to the ancient story told in the 'hymn of the pearl' and explore how old myths and folktales can weave such powerful tales if we just allow them tell their own stories. Journal entry:15th February, Wednesday“An old moon leans back against the dawn. Gulls scythe and cry Between street lamps and traffic noise.Chaos above and chaos below. But between the concrete There is green.”Episode Information:In this episode I retell the story of the quest for the pearl which is based on the ancient Syrian (possibly Indian) song, ‘The Hymn of the Pearl'.You can find the text in English here: The Hymn of the Pearl. The song is part of a much longer late second/early third century gnostic text, the ‘Acts of Thomas'. You can read the full text here translated into English from the Syriac: The Acts of Thomas. Your kindness means the world to me and I hope you might feel inspired to explore the natural areas where you live.Summary:Welcome to episode 27 of the Nature is my Jam podcast. Winter in Michigan presents a unique set of challenges with field recording. My new mantra is, “If it's blowing wind, then it must be .” This week was no exception and we, once again, brave the elements in pursuit of those sweet, sweet sounds of nature. I have wanted to hike the Empire Bluff Trail at the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore all year and with 2023 quickly approaching, I knew I had to get my butt in gear. The Empire Bluff trail isn't terribly long, but presents some of the most iconic and scenic views at Sleeping Bear Dunes. Overlooking Lake Michigan, the trail offers sweeping views of South Manitou Island, massive sand dunes and the stunning South Bar Lake with its narrow spit of land separating it from Lake Michigan. On the day of this recording, I had the entire trail almost to myself, sharing it was a pair of hikers and two Bald Eagles. This recording features massive wind (welcome to Winter in northern Michigan) blowing through the woods and down the bluff to where I was standing. The wind goes from a whisper to a howl to a roar in several minutes. Creaking trees, airborne ferns and sand pebbles shimmer across the soundscape as the wind shifts direction. It is a stunning show of force that, once again, reminds us of the power of nature. This was recorded on a cold and blustery autumn day at the foot of Mount Shasta in Shasta-Trinity National Forest, Siskiyou County, California. The wind blows steadily through the tops of the tall Ponderosa Pine, Douglas Fir, and White Fir trees in the surrounding forest, with gusts swirling down now and then to rustle the dry leaves of the California Black Oak trees under which I set up the microphone. Oak leaves can be heard falling to the forest floor after they've been freed from their twigs by the wind. This location is a little over two miles outside of the small town of McCloud, in which I live. I am fortunate to live in a place where I can be immersed in nature after only a short walk out my back door. This was my fourth try at getting a long recording that didn't contain frequent air traffic. My previous attempts have had commercial jets and small planes passing loudly overhead every five or ten minutes. And though there is a little air traffic on this recording, it isn't nearly as loud or frequent as the previous attempts. I hope you don't mind it too much. A lot of time, effort, and work goes into gathering these recordings for you, and I can really use your help. I am committed to keeping this podcast free to hear, and free from advertising, so the only help I get in making this is due to the kindness and generosity of you, the listener. Blustery conditions are being seen across the state as officials warn that low humidity and a long dry spell could allow brush fires to quickly get out of control. The death toll from a 5.6 magnitude earthquake in Indonesia is now at 162 and authorities fear it will climb as crews continues to search through the rubble. At least five people are dead and 25 more injured after a shooting erupted inside a Colorado gay club just before midnight Saturday. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

‘Living with Ovarian Cancer Podcast' is full of inspiring stories told by people who are living with or have a connection with Ovarian Cancer. Each person's story is a gift; unique and is told from the heart in their own words. I am your host, Diane Evans-Wood. Please subscribe to the Podcast and leave a 5* review so that the show becomes much more visible to listeners. In this episode I talk to Jane Waygood who lives up in beautiful Scotland. She shares her story with Ovarian Cancer and the struggle to get a definitive diagnosis. Jane is a very proactive lady who used the internet in a positive way to learn more about her disease and what was available to help her. Jane underwent surgery followed by conventional treatment with chemotherapy and she shared a funny story about her wig on Mother's Day! We spoke about how Jane coped with the diagnosis of Ovarian Cancer and how her can-do attitude to life helped her through. She prefers to know the truth of what is happening as that helps her to understand and cope with what she is facing. Further on in her disease Jane sought less conventional treatment when she started to follow Jane McLellands regime. Then more recently, Jane developed Cancer on her Lip and underwent significant treatment which she also tells me about. Jane is such an open and honest lady, sharing very difficult moments and how she coped. She really is such an inspirational lady. Jane spoke about Integrative Medicine which you can find out more about via this link: https://yestolife.org.uk We spoke about the use of repurposed drugs and Care Oncology Clinic which is available worldwide: https://careoncologyclinic.com For more information regarding Jane McLelland who we spoke about, please follow this link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/off.label.drugsforcancer/ Thank you so much for listening to ‘Living with Ovarian Cancer'.
