Columbia-based Shelter Insurance is the seventh-largest employer in Columbia/Boone County, according to 2024 statistics from Columbia Regional Economic Development Incorporated (REDI). REDI says Shelter has 1,382 employees here. Shelter's new president is a familiar name in mid-Missouri: Rockne Corbin. Mr. Corbin joined host Fred Parry in-studio for the hour Saturday morning on 939 the Eagle's "CEO Roundtable" program. Mr. Corbin grew up in Jefferson City and earned a degree in business from Central Missouri State in Warrensburg. Mr. Corbin considered being a helicopter pilot while growing up, and served in the U-S Army Airborne at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. His parents taught him the importance of serving others: his mother is longtime former Boone County collector Pat Lensmeyer. Mr. Corbin describes his mother as a true public servant. Shelter operates in 21 states under three brands and in more than 60 nations with what is called reinsurance. Mr. Corbin tells listeners that Shelter currently has about three-million policies with about 800,000 families in their operating territories. He expects Shelter to surpass $3-billion in group business in 2025, with a policyholder surplus of $2.2 billion. Mr. Parry and President Corbin also discussed the impact of Hurricanes Helene and Milton on Shelter, and the importance of being a good corporate citizen. They discussed Shelter's famous gardens and fountains at their massive headquarters on Columbia's West Broadway:

When K-State looking for a new basketball coach after firing Tom Asbury, Wooly was serving as an assistant for the Chicago Bulls under good friend Tim Floyd. Wooly's program went 83-90 in his six seasons, and his final roster was the foundation for Bob Huggins' one season in Manhattan. After leaving K-State, Coach Wooldridge went on to coach at Cal-Riverside, then became the school's athletic director and then he completed his career during a fulfilling five-year run as the AD at Riverside City College. He retired from athletics two years ago and is now 66 years old. *** Tim Fitzgerald is a sports journalist who writes, does TV, radio and is a long-time podcaster. Speaking From Our Hearts
What On Earth Has Love Got To Do With It? – Paul D. Lowe & Mary Pagano

On this episode, Paul in joined by Mary Pagano. They start off with no plan of what they were going to talk about but eventually cover topics including prioritising play in life, relationship goals, how close we all are and should be, the power of the mind and much more. KEY TAKEAWAYS When I was a child all I could think about was hurry up with dinner because I wanted to play. I've been put on this planet to play and I get side-tracked with work and things that really aren't that important, but play and having fun is all we really want to do. Don't get so wrapped up with the other stuff, just do the minimum so you can pay your bills and put food on the table, we came down here to have a good time with our siblings of humanity. I didn't really enjoy being married. He wasn't evil, but there was no respect. I really enjoy my freedom now, when I talk about my wish list, things I want to do or that are important to me, a relationship never comes up. I sacrificed so much of who I was, I was basically as asset to the relationship. I didn't have any dreams I just sustained. I now get to meet so many people and travel all over the world having impact on women's and children's lives, which was a goal I set in 2000 after my divorce. Love transcends everything, just smiling at a stranger can make their day because it's a loving gesture. We can sometimes find out the we're connected to a total stranger too, it's mindboggling sometimes. We're all related. But we're our own worst enemy, we don't manage our mind very well, we say bad stuff about ourselves and other people that creates hate, anger and hostility. If we started to treat ourselves with respect and we had positive thoughts about things we wanted to do and people we wanted to be with then you rewire your brain to think more positively. It still blows my mind that we have race issues. It's so stupid on so many levels. The two words I hate the most is ‘minority' and ‘refugee', so I came up with a grand plan: Get every religion, nationality, gender, race bring them all together and build homes for all the refugees. The refugees would be refugees anymore because they have a home and there wouldn't be any minorities because everybody worked together. BEST MOMENTS ‘We are so programmed to be productive, but there's real power and joy in the power of now.' ‘You can't make a relationship into something it's not, that won't work out for either party Being good friends is most important and then see where that takes you.' ‘The time is now, the world has to change and education is a huge piece of it and I'm going to do whatever I can to make a dent before I slide into home plate.' ‘Self-love is the biggest, most unconditional love you can have in the world. I also think you can get a lot of unconditional love from pets, but it's really hard to get it from another human being.'
