On this episode of the SoulScape podcast, host Paul D. Lowe - International Celebrant – talks to Peter Shankman about how to use the opposite of being still, creating a space and quietening the mind, to build better businesses. KEY TAKEAWAYS I think there’s a place for zen and tranquillity but, for many people, that’s not the first place they would choose to go. I’m at my calmest when I’m at my most productive. The concept of how my brain works is the premise of “deep work”. When I’m put into a situation that allows me to focus on one specific thing, and only that one thing, I’m at my best by a factor of 100. I was diagnosed with ADHD in my late-30s, growing up in public schools in New York, I’d be told to sit down because I was disrupting the class. There was no diagnosis at that point, I’d always be told by my parents to stop procrastinating and leaving everything until the last minute. What I realise know is that leaving everything until the last minute gives me the dopamine hit that I need to get it done. The problem with labels is that they tend to mis-label, they box people into one category, and people rarely fit into one category. Simply saying you’ve been “diagnosed” – people get diagnosed with cancer. Having a neurodiverse brain means you’re faster, you can do things that other people can’t, as long as you know how to use your brain. I don’t consider that a diagnosis – you’re not diagnosed with winning the lottery! Everything I’ve done, whether it’s been a success or a failure, has been a way to learn from it. I want to work with people who learn and understand that it’s perfectly OK to screw up – it’s supposed to happen. The only downside is not learning from your screw ups, as long as you’re learning you’re fine. BEST MOMENTS ‘Studies say that when you’re interrupted, it takes upwards of 22 minutes to get back onto that flow state of work. So, if you get interrupted once an hour, you’re only productive for 20 minutes out of the hour'. ‘Some people who procrastinate do it because it benefits them; it makes their work stronger and more productive'. ‘I’m focused on helping kids understand that just because they have a different brain doesn’t mean they’re broken, it means they’re gifted. If they understand that at an early age it’ll save them a lot of trouble'. ‘You have to learn how to stop giving a fuck about what other people say'. On this episode of the SoulScape podcast, host Paul D. Lowe - International Celebrant – talks to Aimee Mosco about the conflicting feelings that arise when thinking about people celebrating themselves. KEY TAKEAWAYS My inner child in me shrinks when I hear the words “celebrating who I am”. Why? From a personal perspective I think of birthday parties or anniversaries, the socially acceptable celebration of oneself. I never liked my birthday when I was a kid and I think it’s because my mother almost died when I was born. There’s an opportunity to retrain these thoughts when you become aware of them so I’m seizing that today. A celebration is one thing, but who I am really sends me on a journey. I’ve noticed that when people are resistant to celebrating or talking about who they are, or looking deeply at what a label means, there’s a little piece that attached to self-worth (for good or bad) depending upon your experiences in life. Sometimes, when we say “this is who I am”, it’s sometimes contingent to the labels we put upon ourselves: I’m a man/woman/author/therapist. When we say “who am I” we really have to ask what that means: What makes me a man/woman/author/therapist? It’s a different perspective that invites you to look deeper and maybe shift the labels you use when you say “this is who I am.” There’s a place of vulnerability as we pass through on the road to “I am”, you have to look in the mirror and see every story that you’ve told yourself or has been told to you before you can reach a place of oneness with everything, everyone and the beyond BEST MOMENTS ‘It’s important to pay attention when you hear words like “a celebration of who I am”, it’s important to explore them and what it means to be a man/woman and what are the preconceived notions we have when we hear those words, and why'. ‘If we elevate beyond the ego every one of us is the same, we’re a divine being of light, there are no more questions to ask at that point, it’s a statement of fact'. ‘The goal is to learn when it’s most appropriate to be and when it’s most appropriate to do'. ‘Rather than celebrate the fact that you got a promotion/wrote another book, celebrate the fact you’re a divine being of light. That’s a training tool to bring you into a space of not being ruled by fear'. ABOUT THE GUEST Aimee Mosco is an author, intuitive channel and co-founder of Intentional Healing Systems, LLC. Over the course of 10 years, she developed a healing system called SACRED after mapping the components of the human energy field, based on channelled communications. Aimee is a co-host of the global community group ‘Evolve Through Love’, and she works as an intuitive who specialises in facilitating healing of the body, heart, mind, and spirit. On this episode of the SoulScape Celebrations podcast, host Paul D. Lowe - International Celebrant - talks to Rabbi Daniel Cohen about his books, specifically ‘What Will They Say About You When You’re Gone: Creatinve a Life of Legacy’ as well as his career as a Rabbi. KEY TAKEAWAYS As you walk out of a funeral you have a moment where you say to yourself “I hope they speak about me the same way they spoke about that individual.” You leave thinking about doing what’s more important in life and how you want to be remembered. Generally, you’re motivated for about 15 minutes until you go back to life as usual. Life isn’t meant to be a highlight film. Every day god puts us on the Earth we have something unique to accomplish. It really hit home for me on a personal level when my mother passed away sudden from a brain aneurism when she was 44. I learned that life can change in an instant. When I got to 44 I began to think a lot more deeply about if I was doing the most that I can with the life that god has given me to try to make a difference in the world around me. You don’t have to believe in god, but I believe there’s something inside all of us, whether it’s a soul or some yearning to know that we matter, we not just here to eat, drink, be merry and die, that I need to love, be loved, be kind, unlock some beauty and sanctity in the world around me. All to often I think we fill our souls with junk food (social media, counterfeit pleasures) accomplishing a lot but not doing much. These things are still important, but what can you do today that’s worthy of future memory? It’s important to know the distinction between exiting vs living. When somebody says: “What’s my goal in life?” That goal shouldn’t be being healthy, that’s a means to accomplishing something, but to be healthy without using the gift of health is missing a unique opportunity. BEST MOMENTS ‘I’ve always lived with a sense that life matters, to be grateful for every day, not to wait for a crisis: There’s no atheists in a fox hole.’‘Life isn’t made up of days, it’s made up of moments'. ‘Anybody who enters my orbit should end up feeling better about themselves than when they entered that orbit'. ‘One of the most important things to be able to do in life is to make distinctions. To live a life of legacy means to be able to distinguish between really happiness vs pleasure'. ABOUT THE GUEST In a world in flux, Rabbi Cohen’s engaging and captivating style draws on timeless stories and strategies enabling you to maximize every moment while leading a life of impact and legacy. His personal experience as a Rabbi, sharing hundreds of life-affirming moments from birth to death, combined with his humor and humanity, provide him with a compelling narrative and navigational guide for your life. https://www.rabbidanielcohen.com ABOUT THE HOST Despite a painful, traumatic childhood, Paul D. On this episode of the SoulScape podcast, our host - Paul D. Lowe, International Celebrant – talks again to Jose Berlanga about how he manages companies, and entrepreneurs that are struggling. KEY TAKEAWAYS For the majority of my career I’ve been working with small companies and startups, and I pride myself in being able to manage them without any resources, by being creative and more aware that the spending of every cent needs to be well planned. I had the blessing of having parent who were very responsible, they grew up in a different era with very difficult circumstances, where things needed to be respected at a high level. Having things was an honour and a privilege, not a right. That’s part of the mentality of being a business owner. When we start making a little bit of money, one of the mistakes we make is that we start spending it to show the people around us how well we’re doing on unnecessary expenditure, luxuries. You should delay these until you have enough wealth, it’s fundamentally important to the health of your business, but it’s very difficult for people to do. Although I have many weaknesses in the business world, thank god, ego has not been one of them. I have never done anything for what people might think about me or how I do things. Some people utilize that to build upon, leaders need that recognition as successful, I don’t, I feed more on the creative aspects of being successful. When you’re starting a family/business/career, you learn more from obstacles and from the lack of things because you figure out a way around it. When you have abundance it’s easier to make things happen so you don’t develop your brain and creativity. BEST MOMENTS ‘Frugality and taking care of whatever resources you have is crucial in the process of building a company'. ‘Some people start making money when they no longer care that much about it Business and success in life is not just about money, life is more than that'. ‘The personality of abundance comes in handy when you’re trying to build something big, you have to have that clarity and ability to see beyond what’s right in front of you'. ‘There’s no manual or specific formula for someone to achieve their goals'. ABOUT THE GUEST Jose Berlanga has been the founder and co-founder of numerous successful companies in various fields such as the oil and gas, import/export, service and restaurant businesses, manufacturing, distribution and most known for his involvement in the real estate and residential construction industry. https://joseberlanga.com ABOUT THE HOST Despite a painful, traumatic childhood, Paul D. On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast Paul talks to Sharon Griffiths about the things she didn't know that he now knows and thinks the world should know. KEY TAKEAWAYS I didn't know how many people would still be with me or would have left me in this world, and I didn't know how I'd feel about each one. I also didn't know what I'd be doing now, or that my husband would say this on a regular basis: You've got an amazing talent, Sharon – pointing out the obvious! The mind is full of stuff we don't know about, and suddenly up pops a thought. As a child, I rarely found adults to answer my questions, so I became very curious, and I'd have discussions with myself to get clarity on what I wanted to do and achieve. I didn't know that was normal and that other people did it. If you have a challenge, it's obvious that by stepping into that challenge/problem/issue, that's where the solution is. You cannot think yourself out of where you've acted yourself into. By stepping into the challenge, you've acted yourself there. The only way to get out of it is not the way that took you there, it's a different way of thinking. BEST MOMENTS ‘What may appear chaotic, confusing or something I may not know about, I either point out the obvious to myself or I ignore it because it's not relevant to me.' ‘If people talk to me about their problems, I used to get myself in trouble because I'd point out the obvious, and I learned to keep quiet because it wasn't for me to do that to people..' ‘I would often self-sabotage, I wasn't aware that I was doing it but it was obvious from the outside and I was often told I was my own worst enemy.' Lyn appears on the world-renowned World Game Changers podcast alongside Paul Lowe, to discuss the theme "Things I Didn't Know." Lyn shares her wisdom and insights on personal development, emphasising the importance of shifting from a mindset of fear, lack, worry and doubt to one of love, abundance, faith and trust, so you can consistantly attract a happy peaceful life. KEY TAKEAWAYS Our thoughts and focus shape our experiences. Where focus goes energy flows. By concentrating on positive aspects and viewing situations through a lens of love, abundance, faith and trust, we can create a happier more fulfilling reality. Many individuals are unaware of how societal conditioning influences their mindset, often leading to us living in a default state of fear, lack, worry and doubt. Recognising this conditioning is the first step toward self-empowerment and change. Developing self-love can be challenging due to past conditioning and external influences. A helpful exercise is to look in a mirror and visualise oneself as a child, which can make it easier to express & extend compassion to that child and then subsequently progress to love one's current self. Humour plays a significant role in the healing process. It can provide relief and perspective during difficult times, making it easier to help individuals cope with loss and adversity. BEST MOMENTS "I didn't know until I'd done a lot of work on myself that things happen 'for you' and not 'to you', and that you have the power to be in control of the things that you create/ receive in your life." "Everything is a self-fulfilling prophecy, whether that's negative or positive. We attract what we focus on." "The easiest way to start the process of self-love is to think of yourself as a little boy or little girl." "Just having this support, guidance, mentorship... just somebody to give us that little bit of belief in ourselves." On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast Paul talks to Richard Gerver about the things he didn't know that he now knows and thinks the world should know. KEY TAKEAWAYS We spend so much of our lives thinking that if we don't know something it's a weakness or a failure. I'd turn the entire thing around as a response and say: Things I didn't know were that the things that I didn't know, and I was confident about not knowing them, were my strength and my superpower. You learn nothing new by getting something right. You only ever learn something new from the point of a mistake or the realisation you don't know something or can't do something. That is the moment in your life where the magic happens and you're going to evolve, develop and become something better than you were before you encountered that moment of ignorance. I used to take criticism of my writings or talks personally. But a wise person said to me: “Those are the people you're impacting the most because you're pushing them outside of their comfort zone, so don't take offense by the people that respond badly, realise that you've started to catalyse change and development within them.” That was incredibly powerful, potent and important to me. In a time that's becoming increasingly polarised and a world in which we see our differences as chasms between us, if only we could come together and realise and respect those differences and find out how we could harness those differences to make something magical, the world would be a lot better place. BEST MOMENTS ‘It's being open to realising that you don't know something or can't do something and then having the confidence to step through the pathway of that ignorance.' ‘I grew up too often believing that if I didn't know something it was a sign of weakness rather than a moment of accelerated growth.' ‘Every single human being is exceptional no matter their personal traits, academic level, how they view the world or life.' ‘Real, deep collaboration can't come from a gathering of like-minded people in an echo chamber, it can only come when you have a group of people that view the world differently and try to find a way to converge on a commonality of understanding.' On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast Paul talks to Paul (PK) Kelly about the things he didn't know that he now knows and thinks the world should know. KEY TAKEAWAYS Perception is a brilliant word: You might thing you're doing a brilliant job, but someone might say you're doing it all wrong. One of you might be right, one of you might be wrong, but it's all about what people think. Our thoughts can be very powerful, and they can cause us to overthink and that's when people can become stressed. It's very difficult at times to park our thoughts and say: “Is that thought valid?” Being able to validate your thoughts is what it's all about and discount the thoughts that don't serve us. The power of detaching your emotions from a situation, good or bad, is a very difficult power to learn. But, if you can, you can see the positives in negatives or you don't get too carried away with the positive. The ability to remain neutral is a fantastic thing. You need to let go. If someone's done you wrong and you're carrying around that black cloud above your head and thinking negative things about them, you should actually just go about your own business. Forget that bad experience, just let it go. It doesn't serve you, it's like carrying poison around with you and sipping it every day, it's making you worse not better. BEST MOMENTS ‘There's so many little things that you don't really know, as you grow older you realise how little you do actually know.' ‘Being able to let go of those negative thoughts and move on to the next positive one is mastering the game of life.' ‘You've got to be able to forgive, not forget, but you have to be able to let go of that negative thought because it doesn't serve us.' ‘With age comes experience of good and bad and how you can deal with things better.' On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast, Paul begins a new, longer series talking to John Chappelear - a first time guest - about the things he didn't know, that he now knows and thinks the world should know. KEY TAKEAWAYS I didn't realise that an emotional connection was key to leadership, personal relationships, I kept everything on an intellectual level. There's a value to including emotion in everyday life, conversation and every single situation that you encounter. So many business owners tell me they need their people to be more engaged. What's the difference between a couple and a couple that's engaged? Emotion. The couple that's engaged has a tremendous amount of emotional connection between the two of them and you don't have to talk them into doing anything. If you can create that kind of engagement between yourself and your employees/staff/family, the connection will be so much deeper. I didn't realise or know the importance of practice to permanence, I thought I was already born to this ‘smarter, quicker, better than' mindset because everything came easy. I assumed I was really smart so people would want to care about me. No, they didn't! It was only when I started to care about them that they started caring about me. Acceptance helps defuse so many situations. I didn't say “I agree with you”, I said “I accept your position”. It's about the willingness to be empathetic rather than taking your anger and resentment from work and dump it on your family and vice versa. That all dissipates when you are willing to be interested in what's going on in other people's lives/heads/hearts. BEST MOMENTS ‘People want to go where they feel appreciated and cared about. It really is that frighteningly simple'. ‘Be willing to try something that you're uncomfortable with'. ‘Set an intention to be more engaged with the people around you'. ‘Get your path and then follow it'. On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast Paul continues his conversation with Paul Kelly (PK), about how to use his experience and inspirational energy to inspire young people, this time focusing on the paradox of needing to focus on yourself in order to be party of a greater unified whole. KEY TAKEAWAYS I always strive to do something better each day than I did the previous day, whether that's helping self or somebody else. But, we always have to look internally before we can form partnerships with other people. Are we ready to for partnerships or relationships with other people? Have we got our own house in order? If you've got inner peace, it doesn't matter if you're having a good or bad day, the constant is that internally you're happy. That's what people really need more than the external things, but I don't think people realise it, people get caught up with having the fancy car, the big house, the swimming pool, the holidays, they think that's the most important thing but inner peace is what they're looking for, the rest is stuff that makes people feel better. Having a raison d'etre – a reason for being – is what drives people. When people are struggling they don't feel like they have a purpose. If I'm struggling I try to do something that I know is going to be beneficial, like eating better, getting more sleep, doing more exercise, the simple things. If we revert back to when we were happiest when we're struggling and think about what we were doing, we can see what serves us. Have you got a roof over your head? If you have, you're doing great. Does it matter how much you've got in the bank? Not really, as long as you're living within your means. Does it matter whether you've got a 24 plate car or an 06 plate car? A car is just something that gets you from A to B, it doesn't matter how much it costs, that's just status, whether it's a Bentley or a Mini it's still a car. BEST MOMENTS ‘In order to be part of something greater you need to concentrate on self first'. ‘Happiness is a choice, every day when we wake up most of us have a choice about what they do in the 24 hours of their day'. ‘You may not be able to afford the swanky gym that your friends go to, but you can walk round the local park, some of which have exercise equipment in them that are free. Adapt and form your own gym'. ‘Lots of people have great externals, but internally they're so unhappy because they're living above their means and paying things off which is causing them more stress'. On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast, Paul talks to Paul (PK) Kelly in the first episode in a mini-series about how to use his experience and inspirational energy to inspire young people. KEY TAKEAWAYS Lots of the things that young people encounter are the same. Part of the issue is there's a lot of disconnect, lots of young people are involved heavily in social media which isn't all bad, but it's also not great for everybody. I don't see myself as just a Maths teacher, I see myself as someone who can show people opportunities and talk about my own experiences of life and hopefully offer sound advice that can enable people to explore different opportunities. Since Covid I've encountered more students whose emotional development has been hampered by the emotional disconnect f not being able to see friends. Talking to someone online is not the same as talking to someone face-to-face. People struggled with Covid and children struggled more than we could ever imagine and the aftermath is devastating. It's like a transition from fear to love: People are scared of the unknown, and once they realise there can be a better life they're almost scared to go there. You can, you just need someone there to help you through all the steps. BEST MOMENTS ‘Young people need a voice and to be listened to, but sometimes then need advice and someone to turn to'. ‘Covid caused a lot of damage and there's a lot that needs to be resolved still for our young people, and the only way we can do that is by listening to them, talking to them, and saying things will get better'. ‘It's really important to have someone you can call up and say I'm not feeling great a run problem by them'. ‘I know when I've got inner peace because I flourish, it's like walking through a forest and all the flowers start to grow around me'. On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast Paul continues his conversation with Nelson Perez, this time focussing on the books he's written and why he wrote them. KEY TAKEAWAYS I had a couple of purposes as to why I wrote my first book, ‘Heart of a Cuban' which I wrote under my initials so my family back home in Cuba weren't persecuted. The first was that I wrote it for my grandkids so that they know who they are and where they come from. I also wrote it for someone only knows rum, salsa dancing, antique cars and beautiful women come from Cuba. Cuba is much more than that and it's important to know how we got here. I still have nightmares about witnessing my grandfather get executed in front of me when I was a child. Putting my story out there takes it from the back of your mind, puts it up front and you get to release a lot of that anger and hostility that you've held inside. I was ghost writing a story for a fellow once and was corroborating his story with historical facts by talking to several people including his mum. His mum gave me a 180-degree different story from one he had told me. It's amazing how two people can see one incident totally differently, no doubt what they both told me was correct in their minds, in the end I think they were both wrong! You always have to have music and flowers in the house every day, otherwise it's not a home. Every morning I try to sit and drink coffee and listen to Cuban jazz, it sets you on the right tone for the day. BEST MOMENTS ‘A lot of people think you become a millionaire by writing a book: No is the simple answer. You'll become a millionaire from the satisfaction you get from writing it'. ‘Generally speaking, a self-published writer who's written their first book will sell on average about 50 books'. ‘All the proceeds of my book go back to renovate my church back home in Cuba which is run by a friend of mine. It was never a money thing for me'. ‘Writing is a mechanism that's the best way of getting things out, whether you're writing a book or a letter to your pastor'. On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast Paul talks to first time guest, Nelson Perez, about his extraordinary life from fleeing Fidel Castro's Cuba, fighting for the US in Vietnam, building schools and how he got to the place he's in now as a ‘retiree' in Costa Rica. KEY TAKEAWAYS I grew up in Cuba on a 1600 acre sugar cane plantation which had been in our family around 300 years. Part of the product would go to Hershey and the other part would go to American Sugar for coffee and confectionary, etc. When Castro cam in 1959 he began nationalising the country including all farms. When they confiscated our farm my grandfather was very upset, in 1962 he went to the centre of the closest town and gave an anti-Castro speech. State security took him, put him through a 5 minute trial, and the next day he was executed at the town elementary school where I went to school. The same day my dad was also arrested and when through the same process, but the night before his execution he managed to escape. We met up with him in the middle of the night on a mountain, travelled to the coast and mum, dan and myself got on a 16 foot boat and set out for the US. It took us 4 nights to cross the ocean and 300 yards from shore the engine conked out and the boat started taking on water, so we had to swim to shore. My family became immigrants in Miami where people didn't want immigrants, but I got through high school, joined the Marine Corps and served 2 tours of Vietnam. After this I went back to school and got a job in education and went on to work for the State Department building schools for workforce development overseas. I've since ‘retired' to Costa Rica where my wife and I do things to benefit not only our family but the country with our real estate company and a new venture with wholesale and retail coconuts. Over a 10-year period worldwide coconut production increased by 16%, but demand increased by 600%. By 2028 the demand for coconut water will increase by $6billion. Those two facts together made me realise we needed to be in the coconut business. We started off small, 20 acres, but we wanted to be the biggest in Costa Rica, right now we're at 452 acres and we'll be adding another 300-400 acres by the end of this year. In three years, we'll produce 18 million coconuts. BEST MOMENTS ‘I witnessed my grandfather's execution by government forces at 10 years old. It was a traumatic experience, but it was also a learning experience as everything in life is. I learned what courage and conviction was and how to be a man.' ‘The sense of loyalty my grandfather gave to his sugar cane employees is something that we automatically do today in Costa Rica.' ‘Something I learned from combat training is how to control fear. You can be afraid but you don't have to demonstrate or show it.' ‘Keep plugging forward, keep your values and don't try to impose them or expect them from somebody else, something will always work out.' On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast Paul continues his chat with Jack Perry about how to leave a legacy in more detail after their opening thoughts on the last episode. KEY TAKEAWAYS The first key element to how you create a legacy begins with aligning one's inner self with their external behaviour. From there it becomes an inherently external thing, whether that be getting boots on the ground doing the groundwork necessary to create a legacy through an initiative or in a community. To create the positive legacy that most of us desire in our lives you must make your words align with your actions. If that isn't happening within you & you aren't walking the walk of what your profess, it opens the door to creating a negative legacy. It's easier to create a negative legacy than a positive one because positive legacy entails going out and putting into practice what they're talking about, what they profess, what they claim to be their values, attitudes & beliefs. The best form of action one can take to create the legacy they want is by not necessarily doing anything actionable at all. Listening is a passive activity, but it's incredibly important for anyone to be heard & listened to. Some of the most powerful or influential people in society are known as great listeners, they have an ability to tap into a state of being in an intentional way that acknowledges & validates the feelings & emotions of the person they're listening to. Be present wherever you are. The global scope that World Game-Changers works on to achieve its goals is what differentiates ourselves from other types of initiatives. We're looking at root issues across all societies & cultures, particularly regions of the world that are inhibiting this kind of global infusion. BEST MOMENTS ‘It all centres around one being able to translate their values, beliefs & attitudes into tangible & actionable behaviour that others can observe'. ‘The legacy that we hope to leave is in part shaped by us, but it's also very much shaped by others' perceptions of us'. ‘Being present has allowed by to become comfortable & familiar with World Game-Changers. Ultimately, you have to dive in, there's never going to be the ‘right' or ‘perfect' time, jump in head first & see where the ride takes you'. ‘We connect ourselves to people who share the same energy or core values that we have, that connection is critical to us cultivating & leaving the type of legacy that we want to leave'. On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast, Paul talks to a first-time guest, Jack Perry; discussing how to leave a legacy – such a simple word, with such a profound impact. KEY TAKEAWAYS When I think about legacy I think about a particular question: Who do you want to be remembered as after you're no longer here on Earth? What would you want people to say about you in your obituary or at your funeral service? Other people's perceptions, especially in critical moments really encapsulate what ‘legacy' is all about. Legacy can be enjoyed during our time on Earth, it's not necessarily something that manifests entirely after one's passing. It's something that can be cultivated and created on a local, community scale or nationally and globally. Long-term, big picture thinking is important, but for any sort of initiative to have success and a legacy to be cultivated, whether that's for a person or a corporation – there has to be a balance between that big picture vision and granular focus and attention to detail. That's where the groundwork is done. World Game-Changers is a little daunting coming into it and seeing how much ground there is to cover, but something that's cemented my passion for the initiative is the opportunity to cover so much ground and to have a role in affecting good in the world and making sure it aligns with WGC's mission statement: Together as one, and the five values. BEST MOMENTS ‘Legacy provides a fundamental alignment between one's inner self and the person that they exhibit themselves as externally through their actions and behaviours which is crucial to leading the life you want to live'. ‘I'd prefer to have a quiet legacy; someone who cares about others and furthered the good in the world wherever possible'. ‘Timing is never going to be perfect, it's what you make of the timing'. On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast Paul talks to returning guest Daniel Gasser about letting go and how it has led him on a path to freedom. KEY TAKEAWAYS If you zoom out of the day-to-day stuff, we all have a purpose in life and that's been defined by our higher consciousness before coming here as a human being. That purpose is prevented by our ego, and the reason we're here is to make this journey, to experience things, to get to a point where we realise that if you can just let go of things then the things that are meant for me can come to me. This is very difficult for men like I used to be with a huge ego who needed to have control. Letting go of control takes something from a man. He must first of all become humble, and then see that there are greater things out there than himself. The cool thing is that when we manage to let go, we very quickly experience that good things are coming, the good things we were struggling and fighting for we invisibly and unconsciously pushed away by doing so, they can now come to us as well as many other beautiful things. The higher consciousness is our natural. Normal way of being, it's spirit. This body, mind, brain, heart, emotions are a journey we're making, a dream we're dreaming. The higher state of consciousness has control because it has decided to come here as a human being for whatever reason. The problem comes when you let the ego take control. There's a reason I am here, even if I don't get it. It doesn't matter if I get it or not, in fact it's probably better if I don't. Start to trust in spirit. That something above me – not god or creation – my spirit has decided to live this story here, so it's going to be good and magic things will happen. If we think good things will happen to us, they will and we'll see that this works. BEST MOMENTS ‘I was a man with a huge ego, and a man with a huge ego can't easily let go of things, he has to have control and be in charge and that prevents a lot of things.' ‘It's fear based; if we let go we no longer have control. We don't have control; we just think we do.' ‘Life is not meant to be a struggle or difficult, life is meant to be beautiful.' ‘Emotions are not going to kill us. Why are we so afraid of them?' On this episode very special 600th episode of the World Game-Changers podcast, Paul concludes the mini-series based around the second greatest story ever told. This time he talks to many guests, including some familiar voices from across the series & around the world, to close out the topic. KEY TAKEAWAYS Paul Kelly: My take on the topic comes from the time I met Brian Clough. I thanked him for all the things he'd done for Nottingham Forest FC and the people of Nottingham, and he said: “You're a very nice young man, you'll go a long way.” In those few words my life changed, they elevated my thought process about myself, where I was at and what I could do. His words gave my life new meaning. Nicole Bellisle: I think it's the one our ancestors told about a time in human history when we forgot that we are nature & how to connect to one another, what our human potential is capable of, and how powerful & empowered we can be in community. We're living that moment of prophesy where we get to remember again and heal the cultural patterns that have caused us to forget out connectivity and to be separate. We do this through loving ourselves and our neighbour, and remembering what matters most, and makes us most human. Megan Gardiner: For me it's about our ancient origins and how we're connected to civilisations that don't necessarily come from our planet but come from other planets, in other galaxies, in other star systems. The thread that moves through all that information is that we are one. The big thing that comes through is kindness, both to each other and our environment, that will pull us through. Kiran Addala: My take regards volunteering. I started volunteering when I moved to the UK in 2002 at Age Concern. It was fascinating and there were lots of stories I took from their life experiences & advice; I've been volunteering for the last 20 years now. Chantal Francisco: Being in a position of second place provides great leverage in making the world a better place. When we take a subservient or supportive role, or being a volunteer, it creates a better world by providing more people with the same mindset empowering other people. It multiplies and creates a better place for everybody. Kristin Johnson: For me it's remembering being read to by my mother, and being read Greek mythology by my grandfather; listening to all of his nature lore and understanding that we too have a rich history and connection to nature, this planet & our ancestors. We should realise that stories are all around us, not just ours or those of great and powerful people, but those of everyday people and unsung heroes. Paul Lowe was 93, but the husband and grandfather was still living independently and making plans for the future. He often left notes for his wife to read around the house.“One of the last notes I have [from him] is, ‘Putting this in writing, ‘Do not buy more ice cream,' said Betty Lowe. “Because he knew, if I brought it home, he would eat it.”Paul Lowe died in May at Piedmont Eastside Medical Center in Snellville, Georgia, while being treated for pneumonia. When he passed away, his family said the hospital initially told them he died from natural causes. But a lawsuit filed in Cobb County on Monday claims the hospital fatally overdosed him with morphine, and then failed to save him, despite knowing about the mistake for hours.Read the full story here: https://www.atlantanewsfirst.com/2024/03/26/family-claims-georgia-hospital-euthanized-father-through-overdose/

We're back with this mini series of Talent Showcase episodes focused on people in marketing, communications, PR, and allied fields who're looking for their next opportunity. You'll hear their stories, successes, and how they can help their next employer or client. Today, I'm joined by Paula Lowe (https://www.linkedin.com/in/paulajlowe/). Paula is the founder and principal of The PR Table, a marketing communications consulting firm, where all of marketing has a seat at the table. Although Paula's expertise is in media relations and communication strategy, her experience encompasses all aspects of marketing communications, from email marketing, content development, and social media to website creation and maintenance. Paula has more than 15 years experience, having worked with large multinational corporate entities and small startup ventures within a wide range of industries, including technology, Financial Services, Health Care and Medical, Health IT, Supply Chain, Non profits, and Supply Chain and Logistics. Transcript Mark Reed-Edwards: Paula, it's good to have you on the show. Welcome. Paula Lowe: It's great to be here, Mark. Thank you. Mark Reed-Edwards: So, I just told your life story, but can you tell me more about yourself beyond what I just shared, your background and career path? Paula Lowe: Sure. It's always fun to sort of remember the story. I actually went to school in Boston and graduated with an associate degree in hospitality management. I quickly got a job at the Ritz Carlton in a supervisory role, but realized that it was not going to afford me the opportunity to complete my degree, which was very important back then. So I transferred and got a job as an admin assistant at an environmental engineering firm. And about a year in, I transferred from the facilities department to the corporate communications department. And that was it. I fell in love with corpcomm. I began to realize that my natural storytelling and relatability with people was something I could leverage in a career that I would find satisfying and challenging. So I got in touch then with our PR consultant that was brought in. My boss said, "I'm going to have you work with our PR consultant, help tell some stories. I think you'd be good at it." I said, "Great." And that was it. From there, I left the environmental engineering firm and I joined Lois Paul Partners back up in Lexington. I've had my career in public relations ever since. Mark Reed-Edwards: So what is one of your most important career accomplishments, do you think? Paula Lowe: I have to say, working for Hebrew Senior Life in Boston, which is a non profit. They have a hospital license for Hebrew Rehab Center. And they have eight or nine senior housing locations throughout Greater Boston. And I was there at the onset and throughout COVID. And that was a very, very challenging, stressful, difficult time. But it was also a really great learning opportunity because HSL is a leader in senior care. And the then- CEO, he's since retired, but he was a real inspiration to see how he handled things and we were able to bring them through that crisis really successfully. Mark Reed-Edwards: So what do you think you can offer your next employer or client? Paula Lowe: I think that the years of experience I have have led me to be, although I am a PR specialist, if you will, my forte is media relations and analyst relations, securing those relationships, but you know, there's a breadth of services and strategy that I can bring to my clients, so relationship building, persistence. One of the things I found as a PR person is that we have to be persistent. And if a client or I want a relationship with a particular member of the media, I will make it happen. It just might take some time and some creativity. I really find a lot of inspiration in trying to find different ways to do things. I'm not a believer in "this is the way we've always done it so this is the way we should continue to do it." So if my clients are open to new ways of looking at things. I bring a lot of creativity and ideas that we can implement. And of course, strategy. I've done that for most of my career. Nothing is done in a bubble. There's always a strategic reason and business objective we're trying to achieve. Mark Reed-Edwards: I've never really done PR. I've been in areas around PR and talked to the press on occasion. But persistence is a quality for most of the people I know in PR who are great at their jobs. Because they build relationships over years. And you have to be persistent to do that. Paula Lowe: Absolutely. And it's a fine line. Some of the relationships I built early on in my career, I'm still friends with those reporters and editors. And I think one of the things that sets me apart, and maybe even it's a generational thing at this point too, but I never went to a reporter or editor with a pitch that I had to read off a sheet. I made sure I understood it. I made sure I understood the business value of what we were offering, and if they didn't accept it, I always asked why. I said I know that time is tight, but what am I missing here? Because I am trying to be a good resource. I do my research. If I'm missing, I need to know what I'm missing and why. And sometimes they would tell me, sometimes they wouldn't, but often they'd say, "You know, that's a great question. Nobody asks that. It's not totally off the mark. It's the timing or it's this." And that's valuable information to take back to a client as well. Why the pitches aren't working or why the client thinks it's a great story, but maybe the media doesn't. And then we find a different way to go back to that person with what they can use. Mark Reed-Edwards: Yeah, and finding out their editorial calendar and just partnering up with them over the course of months or even years so that you can align with what the reporter's needs are and those reporters are stretched thinner than ever now. Paula Lowe: Oh, gosh, for sure. The landscape has changed significantly and it's very challenging. But you can still do it. I'm doing it right now for a client. I'm having a lot of fun. It's a really unique auto industry training software company that I'm working with and it's a lot of fun and I'm making those relationships on their behalf and it's just been great because you can still do that. It just takes a little longer. Mark Reed-Edwards: Yeah. And how do you---I'll ask one last question. How do you work with your client to set their expectations that they're not going to be in the Wall Street Journal or the New York Times next week. Paula Lowe: Isn't that the age old question? Mark Reed-Edwards: Yeah. B You know, it's just a matter of being very honest and direct and saying, " When you have that story I'm happy to tell it, but you're not there right now, or you know, it's gonna take some time to secure those relationships and make those connections." One of the challenges, too, is the way people move around. Many of the people I worked with just a few short years ago are now in different roles. Still within the media landscape, but different roles. It might mean that I need to get reconnected or connected with someone new. And those things do take time. So I just sort of set the expectation up front and let them know that there are certain criteria that you have to meet to get into a big publication like that, or even Forbes, Fortune, those kinds of publications, and those take time. They're not an overnight thing. Mark Reed-Edwards: Well, Paula, you've got a great story to tell for yourself, and thanks for joining me. I hope this podcast helps you find your next great gig. Paula Lowe: Thank you, Mark. I appreciate being here. Mark Reed-Edwards: Well, that's it for this mini series. Together, we've met some extraordinary people. Ben Bradshaw, Jason Rasmussen, Gem Passant, Chuck Tanowitz, Kelley Lynn Kassa, and today's guest, Paula Lowe. I hope we helped tell their stories and that they have nothing but good fortune to come. As for what's coming next for this podcast, stay tuned. We have one of the world's leading Amazon experts and the guest for the most popular episode of Confessions of a Marketer while we were away. That's Robin Johnson. She'll be with us next time, and we'll see you then.

Importance of Intimacy: The conversation highlights the significance of intimacy in relationships, emphasising the sacred nature of sharing intimate moments and the impact it has on emotional connections. BEST MOMENTS "I think there's so much pressure around being pure about our word and, you know, you shouldn't say that and you shouldn't say that and you should say this and did it and all this kind of stuff." "Sharing a sex act, for me, is the ultimate act of intimacy with somebody, and connection." "But when you're sharing it all around, surely you're diluting that, you know, and bringing it back to the SEMP model to have a really deep spiritual conversation." "My love, my other love, my big love was Nottingham Forest Football Club. Now, Lynn was not prepared to share, which was a bit of a problem." In this Multiply Podcast episode, James Rankine and Paul Lowe discuss the topic of generational leadership; unpacking how people in each generation lead differently and what this means for those considering church planting and multiplication today.
Lyn has a unique and different conversation with her ex-partner, Paul Lowe. They discuss the concept of 'consciously' uncoupling and how they have managed to remain close friends after their separation. They emphasise the importance of communication, finding middle ground, and injecting humour into difficult situations. They also introduce the idea of a "love box" where both parties give unconditionally without any expectations. KEY TAKEAWAYS Communication is key in any relationship, especially during the process of being more conscious when uncoupling. Finding a middle ground or a shared entity can help maintain a positive connection after separation. Humour can be a powerful tool to diffuse tension and navigate difficult conversations. The concept of a "love box" suggests giving unconditionally without expecting anything in return. Adopting pets can provide companionship and love during lonely or challenging times. BEST MOMENTS "We're separating, we're parting, we've come to the end of the road. We're conscious of that." "The relationship that we've got from my heart now is extremely sacred." "Consciously uncoupling is separating those emotions out. It's one thing splitting assets, but to split out your emotions, that's a different kettle of fish." "My love for you has actually increased because there's no expectation that we'll be sharing a bed or doing this together as a couple."ABOUT THE GUEST - Paul Lowe - Founder & President of World Game-Changers Paul has made a remarkable transformation from existing for many years in dark, desperate despair; to now living a really healthy, happy and fulfilling life. On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast, Paul is joined by Klementina Karol to talk about something that's very close to their hearts: How love changes everything. KEY TAKEAWAYS I was working to create my dream job and I realised that something was missing. I connected the dots between the unsustainability that we're currently seeing around the planet and traumas, fears, and beliefs and how we're still very much influenced by our collective heritage from the past – we're still in survival mode even though our technology has advanced. Each of us is a node in this collective symphony that we're creating and each of us has a frequency that has thoughts, a vibration, actions we're taking that influences everything. Each of us is so important. Imagine the vibration of love and how beautiful that feels. Love is one of the highest vibrations we can tap into, and when we're in that vibration everyone around us can feel it and can also be intoxicated by it. What I love about love is that we can still be loved and wonder if we feel it at a deeper essence, that this person's soul gets it. Often times they actually do. But I've definitely tried to steer away from trying to explain myself and my journey too much to people who don't really understand it. BEST MOMENTS ‘How can we transform the inner dimension so we can create a more beautiful life on the outside and really influence the collective'. ‘If there's trust we can more easily open up to the flow and open up our hearts and continue creating.'‘There's so much power in silence, I love silence so much which I discovered when I lived in Bali'. ‘One of my biggest fears in the past was that I'll never get to experience real love. I didn't know how it felt until a few years ago, my heart wasn't open'. On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast, Paul is joined by first-time guest Kiran K. Addala to talk about creating lasting legacies, their four stages, and what legacy means to him. KEY TAKEAWAYS Legacy is about the visionary geniuses of the world who are able to think futuristically, have a positive impact on their community or society, and leave strong impressions in our memories. I was amazed when reading in school to hear people talking really highly about certain people, like Mahatma Ghandi or Winston Churchill, about what they had done and the impact they'd had. Parenting gives you great purpose in your life, you're doing something for somebody, making a difference. You face a lot of challenges and you need to commit a lot of time to it, but it's invaluable. Legacy doesn't have to be a very long commitment, it could be as simple as doing something in the street to inspire a group of people who may go and imitate it somewhere else. BEST MOMENTS‘Even the most massive legacy started with one step by one person trying to solve one particular issue'. ‘As an individual, it's very important to continue as a learner. One life is not good enough to become an expert, there's no ending to learning any topic in this world'. ‘The biggest motivation for any individual or corporate is what you're working towards, how you get satisfaction for it, how many people can you influence, what kid of problems can you solve'. ‘You create legacy by shaping people under you who will be able to take up your role and responsibility at some point because they are inspired by you and what you do'. After last week's ugly, team-record 63-21 drubbing by the Las Vegas Raiders, and the subsequent dismissal of its head coach and general manager - it's been a (yet another) rough season for the NFL's Los Angeles Chargers. While family owner/scion Dean Spanos tries (again) to plot a plan forward, we look nostalgically back to the franchise's early years in San Diego as one of the charter entries in the iconoclastic American Football League - an era that produced the club's (still) one-and-only championship in 1963. AFL history chronicler Dave Steidel ("The Uncrowned Champs: How the 1963 San Diego Chargers Would Have Won the Super Bowl") helps us zero in on the story behind that AFL title-winning season - with an in-depth revisit of iconic coach Sid Gilman's blockbuster squad, featuring revered Charger greats like Tobin Rote, John Hadl, Paul Lowe, Keith Lincoln, Chuck Allen, and future Pro Football Hall of Famers Lance Allworth and Ron Mix. Plus: we debate whether the '63 Chargers could have truly beaten the NFL champion Chicago Bears that season for a definitive (albeit mythical) pre-merger American pro football title. + + + SPONSOR THANKS: 417 Helmets (promo code: GOODSEATS): https://417helmets.com/?wpam_id=3 BUY/READ EARLY & OFTEN: "The Uncrowned Champs: How the 1963 San Diego Chargers Would Have Won the Super Bowl" (2015) "Remember the AFL: The Ultimate Fan's Guide to the American Football League" (2008) "AFL Trivia and Tales: The Ultimate American Football League Trivia Book" (2023) FIND & FOLLOW: Website: https://goodseatsstillavailable.com/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/GoodSeatsStill Instagram (+ Threads): https://www.instagram.com/goodseatsstillavailable/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GoodSeatsStillAvailable/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@goodseatsstillavailable
On this episode, Paul is joined by Andrii Svyrydov to talk about technology as it escalates exponentially with the birth of AI, and how it can help humanity. KEY TAKEAWAYS AI will help us to work less than we're working right now, they will be able to spend more time working on their health, families, etc. It's not bad, it's good and things will be even better than now. I believe that work will be changed. It's a good idea to start educating yourself to become an engineer or in IT and other niches. In the next 5 years AI will become a game-changing technology. BEST MOMENTS‘Technology has really helped humanity by helping older people to stay at home rather than in hospitals'. ‘In my industry, around 40% or people will be replaced by AI'. ‘Once we can connect between continents using the internet and technology in milliseconds, the world will become global and we will remove a lot of boundaries between different countries. We could then think about how to achieve getting to Mars and other planets!' On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast, Paul (as the founder of World Game-Changers) asks the question: What Does It take To Become A World Game-Changer? KEY TAKEAWAYS A world game-changer devotes themselves to a higher purpose, to impact the world and the lives of other for the better. They come from ever walk or life, every nation, ever life circumstance representing diverse experiences with love being the common factor. A world game-changer develops their talents and skills and pursues opportunities to increase their own influence for the greater good. Vulnerability is massive in our world as humans and individuals. I'm not so sure that collectively we give it the respect that it deserves in terms of the part that it plays in our lives with regard to progress. Being prepared to be vulnerable and putting it out there first and taking control of the situation takes the power away from people who would want to exploit your vulnerability against you. BEST MOMENTS‘World Game-Changers intentionally work to improve their end circumstances and the people with who they are associated.' ‘In a world without love what have we got? Simply, an existence. A world without love is, for me, not really a world at all.'‘We prefer to wear a mask of control and self-protection because we don't want people to get close to us and judge us. Be prepared to look at yourself in the mirror.' “God is not looking for ability, he's looking for availability and obedience. He's looking for five loaves and two fish, people of faith who are willing to follow his voice regardless of whether it works out, hearts that are hungry for heaven.” At The Cause to Live For 2023, Paul Lowe urged us to live a life worthy of our calling, to realise that we carry the power and authority of God and what we see as barriers God sees as opportunities for the miraculous. His Kingdom comes when we take risks, step into the unknown and willingly say yes to Jesus.
On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast, Paul is joined by returning guest Raksha Daryanani to continue their conversation about how storytelling can help us overcome fear. KEY TAKEAWAYS I grew up being told I was an extrovert but, as I grew older, I realized that's not true because when I'm around a lot of people all the time I get exhausted. I like spending time with people but not for extended periods, I need time for decompressing and time alone. Introverts and extroverts can both be great public speakers, it all comes down to what energizes you and how much time you need to decompress. We don't decompress, rest, take time for ourselves enough, and that's becoming increasingly important in the digital age that we live in because more of us are working from home and you can go straight from work to going on social media on the same computer/device, or you can watch TV for hours. The brain is not getting rest. Some communities are more open, engaging, supportive when you are your true self, but others shy away from that and are more closed or reserved and expressions of vulnerability or opening up is frowned upon or met with very little reciprocation. It's something I've noticed moving around in my life. It's good to assess what a culture is like and whether you can fit in and be yourself, if not are you OK with that? It can be quite hard to mask who you are every day. The onus is on both the speaker and the listener to connect to the message. The speaker shouldn't communicate in a way that can be misinterpreted. And, preconceived notions of the listener can block us and create judgement, bias, and an unwelcoming atmosphere for someone trying to convey a message. BEST MOMENTS‘I would like to inject more fun, I often thing I'm a bit serious in my writing, I think starting off on a lighten note engages the reader in your story. It's a real art to make someone laugh with your writing'. ‘If we someone else opening up we soften. These moments where we are our true, whole selves and not putting up any façade are precious and relatable'. ‘There's no way you can guarantee that a person wrote something in a certain tone if you're just reading written text'. ‘When you hear someone tell you something remember there's another side to it if there's someone else involved. Don't make up your mind too fast'. On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast, Paul is joined by returning guest Keith Amoss to talk about mentally turning the clock back, and finding childlike curiosity, energy and everything that comes with being a young person; whilst amalgamating it with the wisdom of a senior. KEY TAKEAWAYS Old tyres with no tread left get mashed up and turned into material for children's playparks. This is a fabulous concept; taking something that's good and bad (like our childhood experiences), taking the good bits and see how you can use them now as an adult, what have you learned? A while back I met some old school friends after many years, sharing jokes and stories on Facebook. We decided to meet up in Canada. One guy used to be the cool guy who everyone looked up to and idolised, another was into motorcycling and was a bit of greaser, and I was a bit middle-of-the-road listening to David Bowie and being abstract. When we got together we didn't stop talking and were at ease in each other's company and we managed to think of a few incidences from our school days and our perspectives were different, especially about each other. Perhaps we should ask people we've known over the years “what did you think/make of me?”, but that's a very difficult question to ask people. Relatively speaking, the type of person that you were as a younger person/teenager, whether that's generous, kind, giving, supportive, friendly, it's still there throughout your life. Where you see examples of that is when you see people with genuinely childlike qualities in the way they act as an adult. Humour is classic case. You can recycle yourself, but you need to know that things that you need to drop from your teenage years, the things that cause you pain, the things that you need to overcome, the self-work you need to do, and take the good bits. How do we prevent ourselves from wallowing in the past? There is a risk that you look back and see them as the good old days when you were confident and you had everything going for you, you were happy and had so much to offer. It's both quite complicated but also extremely simple to live in the moment. You also need to be spending about 20% of your time living in the future though, because you need to pay the bills, plan and book trips, etc. However, you're doing all that stuff today. BEST MOMENTS‘We're all tarins going through other peoples' stations; we go through, we stop for a while, they see a little bit of us, and then we move on'. ‘It's not what you say, it's what you make someone feel that counts'. ‘The concept of the recycled teenager in essence is about recalling the past and having the memory, but without having particularly the negative emotion that was associated with things that went on'. ‘We make assumptions that people, when they're older, have got it, they understand it, they know what's going on, they don't get nervous, they've got their act together. Talking to my father who's in his 80s you realise that even though you've been through a lot of life you still don't understand how things work, you're still uncertain, you can still have all those emotions of nervousness, uncertainty and fear'. On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast, Paul is joined by Richard Gerver to talk about their relationships with school & education, and how that's changed over the years. KEY TAKEAWAYS When I look back to my education, and when people remind me of my first career as a teacher and headteacher, when I left school at 18 I never wanted to go back into school ever again in my entire life, ever. I felt like a misfit. Arguably I was very privileged, my parents and my grandparents sold their homes and sacrificed everything to send me to a private school because it was their dream to provide me with the very best education they could. This added a considerable amount of pressure on me, especially as an older teenager, because I knew what they'd sacrificed, so how could I tell them that I hated it? When I chose to become a teacher later – for the love of a young woman – in my very early 20s, that was when I first began to process my own experience more objectively. Rather than taking my reflex judgement of hating it in the moment and it made me a worse person for whatever reason, I was able to start to understand and unpick the learning I'd taken from that experience without even knowing it and reflected on, despite everything I felt at the time, how lucky I was to have been in that environment. One of the things that we should become more and more aware of as we go through life, which I think is really pertinent in the divided and angry world we live in right now where people's beliefs are shaped by their own lived experience and context, the wiser among us realize that actually to grow, evolve, learn, develop, find peace with the world, your world and the world around you, you have to be open minded enough to realize and respect that you need to be active in shaping, challenging and developing your beliefs. It's only by broadening your own horizons, contexts and experiences that your beliefs become increasingly rounded. So many conflicts, from the smallest to the most horrific, people become increasingly deaf to other opinions, values, other people's experiences and almost do so just to protect their own viewpoint. Partly that's been amplified by the fact we're now living in a digital world where social media through algorithm and the way we build walls around our own content means that we tend to live in increasingly siloed environments. We're living in a world of what I call curated ignorance and I think it creates a dangerous environment, especially for our younger folk, where they can't see why they would ever look outside of their own belief system because of the confirmation biases that are constantly circulating and fired at them. Then what happens is when they have a like-minded cabal around them, it's very easy for sophisticated manipulators in that cabal to say: “Anybody who disagrees with you is bad, evil, has your worst interests at heart. I think that's happened throughout history, but it's more pronounced and more dangerous now because of the digital space which preoccupies so much of our lives. BEST MOMENTS‘As a child, I was immensely creative. I was a writer, an actor, and artist; I went to an all-boys school that was highly academic, highly sports focused – particularly rugby'. ‘There's no such thing as a bad experience if you process it in the right way, and learn from it'. ‘Beliefs can only ever be shaped by your lived experience'. ‘We talk a lot about the wisdom of elders; every time an old person dies a library burns down'. Could you imagine a condition that affects virtually every organ, eludes the standard diagnostic criteria, and causes multi-system inflammation? Meet the perplexing world of mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS). MCAS is an elusive condition that affects many, yet remains largely misunderstood. MCAS is a syndrome that triggers multi-system inflammation, and due to its diverse range of symptoms, it often eludes typical diagnostic processes. It has a profound impact on both the body and mind. Mast cells are integral to our innate immune system, playing a crucial role in safeguarding us against foreign invaders, allergens, and environmental toxins. However, potential triggers of mast cell hyperactivity can range from environmental toxins to mold. Today I'm with Dr. Bruce Hoffman and we dissect this complex condition and delve into the critical role of mast cells in our immune system. Learn how mast cells, our body's fierce protectors against toxins, might turn hyperactive due to triggers like environmental toxins, heavy metals, or mold, launching a cell danger response that could send your body into a protective shutdown. The conversation takes a deeper turn as we explore the intersection of physical and mental health. Focusing on those battling MCAS and early developmental trauma, Dr. Hoffman shares invaluable self-regulation strategies and lends insight into the significance of neurofeedback and building a window of tolerance. Dr. Hoffman is board-certified and has a fellowship in anti-aging medicine as well as a Master's degree in clinical nutrition. He is also a certified functional medicine practitioner. In addition to his clinical training, Dr. Hoffman has studied with many of the leading mind-body and spiritual healers of our times, including Deepak Chopra, Paul Lowe, Osho, Ramesh Balsekar, and Jon Kabat-Zinn. He has shared the stage with Dr. Deepak Chopra, Dr. John F. Demartini, and he continues to spread his inspiring vision of healing and wellness with audiences and patients around the world. This can result in a wide range of symptoms and can be difficult to diagnose. Potential triggers of this hyperactivity can include environmental toxins, mold, and certain foods. Physical and mental health are interconnected when it comes to MCAS. Individuals with this syndrome may have early developmental trauma which can exacerbate symptoms. Learning self-regulation techniques, such as neurofeedback, can be beneficial for managing stress and promoting balance in the body and mind. The treatment and management of MCAS is complex and often involves a combination of nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals, dietary adjustments, and the creation of a neutral environment. Continuous vigilance is necessary to avoid triggers and manage the condition effectively. It is crucial to build resilience against environmental toxins and to focus on overall well-being.
