This episode covers the role of US and Chinese domestic politics in the US-China relationship. There are many drivers of US-China strategic competition, and domestic politics is among them, and has become increasingly important, though it has not been well researched and analyzed in recent years. One reason for the lack of analysis on Chinese politics is that since Xi Jinping became China's top leader in 2012, domestic politics in China has become even more of black box than previously. Bonnie is joined by Dr. Evan Medeiros, who has recently published a pathbreaking study that seeks to update the understanding of political forces in China and the United States that are influencing the bilateral relationship. Medeiros is one of the world's leading experts on Chinese foreign policy. He is the Penner Family Chair in Asia studies and the Cling Family Distinguished Fellow in US-China Studies in the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. The report we will discuss today is titled: "The New Domestic Politics of US-China Relations" and was published by the Asia Society Policy Institute's Center for China Analysis where Evan is a senior fellow for foreign policy. During the Obama administration, Evan was on the NSC staff, first as director for China, Taiwan and Mongolia, and then as special assistant to the president and Senior Director for Asia. In some ways, our sudden foray into remote instruction has forced us to re-examine the ways in which things have always been done in education, allowing motivated teachers the space to reinvent practices that had become standard but that could be improved with the technology now at our disposal. Perhaps more than any other single aspect of education, virtual learning necessitates a close connection with parents who are instrumental in the educational process but who can be difficult to cultivate relationships with when we don't see them in the course of everyday interactions or due to a pandemic and social distancing, we may never actually meet them in person. Back To School Night provides teachers with the opportunity to meet the parents and guardians and begin to develop that rapport, but when the school building may not be open or may not be for visitors, how can we communicate the right tone and information and lay the groundwork for that great communication. We first discussed Back To School night way back in our second ever episode of the EDverything Podcast, but 2020 has us revisiting this topic—and the spin we are putting on back to school night has us excited to implement these tactics, even after the new normal is long behind us. In this episode, you'll hear why recording a video intro as using a tool like Loom is something that will be making Back To School Night a better experience for everyone involved—and what to feature if you are eager to do the same! In this episode, you'll hear: -How recording a video can save you from some of the most common Back To School Night interruptions -Why it will save you time (and be far more environmentally-friendly than your typical Back To School Night) -How it signals your understanding of parents needs and schedules -Why it can be great for making sure that the supplies you need are the ones that actually get purchased -Gives parents a better idea of what your actual (sometimes virtual or flipped) classroom might look like -Why this can help you stand out while simultaneously taking away some of the nerves and stress typically associated with BTSN -What to cover in a virtual BTSN intro video, from the traditional topics to those that make a great addition for people who can't come to your classroom in person

In this week's episode of You Are Infinitely Loved, we're talking about the ins and outs of friendship. How to create new friends as an adult, what to do when you realize certain friendships are no longer serving you, how to set boundaries with your friends and getting to know your own friendship needs and expectations. We discuss the different tiers of friendship, and how to prioritize the friends in your closest tier - the ones that you feel deeply connected to, that bring you joy and that reflect back to you the person you want to be in the world. We also talk about navigating difficult conversations with friends when you realize the friendship no longer serves you or that you want to spend less time with this person. Sometimes friendships are for a season in our lives, so what do you do when that season is over? One of the most powerful acts of self-love is choosing to surround yourself with people that love you, uplift you, bring you joy, support you, listen to you and show up for you - so who are those people for you? If you really loved yourself, who would you spend your free time with? --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/you-are-infinitely-loved/message

She had her life on the road as an endurance runner, with a group of peers and friends she could share all the aches, pains, and achievements of that sport. And she had her life as a writer, with other writers and friends she could share the disappointments, obstacles, and accomplishments in her work. It seemed to her the two pieces of her life were always in conflict; few athletes she knew were professional writers, and few professional writers she knew were athletes. But as she worked through her own brand theories and intentions, she realized those two parts were not in conflict, they ran in parallels. Caroline is a writer of bios for professionals, but that doesn't even come close to describing what she does. That would be like saying Meryl Streep is an actress. There is so much more to the art and style Caroline employs to create a unique and compelling bio, in writing and via video storytelling. Here's her's, as an example: Our conversation was broad and deep, and we spoke about everything from her endurance running to the why behind what we do with storytelling for our clients. One thing we agreed strongly about was that people often misunderstand their own stories, sharing them as if they were a linear experience, one thing happens, and then the next, without any context for what we learn and how we grow in between. To really stand out, we have to know how to share those unique parts of us, the parts that might at first look conflicting or mismatched. The best way to do that is to tell a story that connects us not only within our own lives, but to connect us with others. Our conversation was broad and deep, and we spoke about everything from her endurance running to the why behind what we do with storytelling for our clients. Why is it so hard to end an affair? Once a hurt spouse discovers their spouse is having an affair often and for good reason the hurt spouse demands that the affair be ended immediately. This is not an unreasonable expectation but it is one that may take some time. In this podcast we discuss some of the reasons why ending the affair may take some time and what the hurt partner can do in the meantime. The solution is not always to end the marriage or committed relationship. David’s Terminology and Definitions: Hurt Partner – The partner in the relationship who has been “cheated” on Participating Partner – The partner that having the affair Affair Partner – The partner outside the relationship in the affair with the Participating Partner For more on David Feder visit his website, Close Connections at: www.MyLifeAfterAnAffair.com. What is the relationship between attachment and the virtues and vices of character? What are the implications of the answer for characterfocused public policy? Since Aristotle said that "to experience [an emotion] at the right time, toward the right objects, toward the right people, for the right reason, and in the right manner: that is … a mark of virtue", and the capacity successfully to regulate emotion is also associated with security of attachment, the regulation of emotion is a natural point at which to initiate the wider investigation. | Center for Advanced Studies LMU: International Conference "Attachment, Virtue and the Regulation of Emotion" | 25.-26.02.2016
