Pancreatitis is a serious condition that requires immediate attention from your vet, but there are some things that you can do to help prevent and manage it with the appropriate diet! Cat and I cover: * What the pancreas is, and what is happening when pancreatitis hits * Common symptoms of pancreatitis to keep an eye out for * Potential causes of pancreatitis, whether you are feeding kibble or fresh food * How to think about Essential Fatty Acids for a dog with pancreatitis * And why a DIY approach to your dog's diet may be the most helpful approach to manage a pancreatitis flare-up, and to prevent it To connect with Cat about her courses and all of her other offerings, please visit her Instagram https://instagram.com/bemoredog.nutrition Cat also has her own podcast, My Dog Made Me Do It…Naturally! In this episode, I talk with Dr. Conor Brady, an animal nutritionist and the founder of Dogs First Ireland. I have been following Conor for the last few years after watching a presentation he gave on the role of nutrition in behavior. During the presentation, he confirmed what I had already researched and my suspicions about the relation of diet to behavior - so, of course, I wanted to know more! Conor's commitment (and no-nonsense approach) to busting myths about dog nutrition makes the topic far more digestible (pun intended)! Conor is someone that I trust not only to guide my clients through their own diet issues but also the person I trust with my own dog's health. I hope this episode brings more clarity to your search in diet options for your dog. NOTE: No one should feel shame about what they feed their dog. This episode's advice does not replace speaking to a nutritionist directly about your dog's diet. If you would like to consult Conor, he supplies free resources and very reasonably priced webinars and consultations on his website: https://dogsfirst.ie/ He also has published a book called Feeding Dogs that you can purchase HERE For more information about R+Guardians, visit www.rplusdogs.com FOLLOW me on Instagram
Today I am sharing the first quarter of my most recent webinar based around the hidden truths about highly processed, rendered kibble pet foods. Cogs Toys and Games, Ireland's top independent toy retailer, is today urging parents to ignite their children's passion for science and engineering this Christmas following the opening of its new pop-up shop on Dublin's Grafton Street. Specialising in products designed to boost brain development in children and maintain mental acuity in adults, Cogs Toys and Games (formerly Cogs The Brain Shop) has been a fixture in St Stephen's Green Shopping Centre in Dublin since it was set up by siblings Conor Brady and Ruth Roberts in 2013. The company marked its 10th anniversary with the opening its new pop-up premises on Grafton Street in October this year. Cogs Toys and Games stocks a wide range of family board games, brain teasers, puzzles, jigsaws, strategy, and STEM games, as well as products specifically for children with additional needs, including sensory toys for children with autism, reading games for children with dyslexia, and fidget toys for those with Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Founder of Cogs Toys and Games Ruth Roberts is calling on parents to instil a burgeoning love of science and engineering in their children this Christmas with the gift of one of the company's many STEM toys and games. She says: "As an experienced primary school teacher with a master's degree in educational studies and a diploma in special education, and as a mother of two boys, I know the benefits of learning through play. "All the toys and games we sell online or in-store at our Grafton Street pop-up shop are specifically selected to aid brain development. Indeed, the effectiveness of every product we sell at stimulating the brain is measured before they go on our shelves. This has helped us create one of the best collections of STEM toys and games in Ireland. "Christmas is the perfect time to ignite a child's passion for science and engineering with the gift of one of our STEM toys and games. Visitors to our Grafton Street store will find staff on hand to demonstrate any one of these products, as well as our Irish-made and designed range, and a whole series of products specifically for children with additional needs, such as autism, ADHD, and dyslexia." Some of the most popular STEM toys include Snap Circuits, a multi-award-winning range of toys from Elenco which teach children the basics of electronics. Aimed at children aged eight to 15, Snap Circuits has a lot of different kits in a range of prices which offer hands-on experience designing and building models of working electrical circuits using a collection of different components. The range includes models for building a remote-controlled car, a flying saucer, a motion detector, and arcade games. Snap Circuits Green Energy, meanwhile, helps kids understand the concept of clean energy through the construction of windmills and electric cars. Another popular choice this year is The Keva Maker Bot Maze, an engineering tool which allows children to build mazes through which their own motorised robot must pass. The game encourages children to use their creativity, imagination and resourcefulness to make tunnels, bridges, pathways and obstacles from planks and connectors. See the Keva Maker Bot Maze here A charity gift-wrapping service will be operating at the back of the Grafton Street pop-up shop in the run-up to Christmas with all proceeds going towards Hugh's House, a charity that provides family accommodation to parents of sick children in Temple Street, Holles Street, The Coombe and Rotunda Hospitals.

Dr. Nick Thompson earned his veterinary degree from Edinburgh University in 1992. While in veterinary school, he did a year of advanced study in immunology as well. After graduation, he worked in a few mixed animal practices before engaging in advanced studies in both homeopathy and veterinary acupuncture. A colleague introduced him to the writings of Dr. Ian Billinghurst, and his journey into investigating and promoting raw feeding was soon underway. In 1999, Dr. Thompson founded his holistic practice, Holisticvet, in the United Kingdom. He uses homeopathy, acupuncture, natural nutrition, and herbal medicine to treat his patients. In 2014 he was a founder of the Raw Feeding Veterinary Society, an international group of veterinarians and veterinary nurses dedicated to raw feeding and species appropriate nutrition in dogs and cats. Dr. Thompson is an international industry leader and subject matter expert on holistic medicine and natural feeding. He has a wide range of speaking experience and has created a large volume of online content, including participating in weekly Facebook Live sessions called "Raw Pet Medics" where he and Drs. Conor Brady and Brendan Clarke discuss holistic approaches to health issues in pets. Please enjoy this conversation with Dr. Nick Thompson as we discuss his exposure to holistic philosophy at an early age from his parents, his veterinary education, how he became a holistic expert, and how he manages to stay current on nutrition while maintaining his roles as a consultant, clinician, husband, and father.

Carol Smeja joins us for this episode, and goes in-depth about the instinctual way dogs should be eating their food…just like their relatives and ancestors, the wolves, do in the wild. Carol Smeja's career has focused in the area of psychology and sociology which culminated in her earning a Ph.D. and teaching. After leaving academia, she applied these roots in understanding the psychological and social dynamics of eating while working in and improving health & diet with government agencies including the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) and the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention). More recently, she has applied her extensive research and diagnostic training in understanding the eating behaviors of our dogs & cats by studying the natural and instinctive behaviors of their ancestral roots. And from observing her own dog Pipa, she and her husband developed a solution - The Mine Pet Platter. So what is "the feeding equation?" - It's how you combine what you feed and how you feed that food to your pet. As Carol notes on why pet platters are best for your pets... Dogs smell in 3-D just like, you know, our eyes bring the two different visions together. They smell in 3-D. And so respecting that nose is absolutely critical. I always say you want to make sure how you're feeding your pet develops a positive relationship with food, not a negative relationship with food. Do that by respecting their nose and not having anything project into it.How do we create a complete natural feeding experience? You want to make sure that you have a broad area to feed off of. You want to eliminate any potential issue that they see in terms of perceived threat or or their food being taken away. And you want to try to resemble a carcass as much as possible by spreading food across, but also having different pockets of protein and different varieties of food. Let them sniff out and explore.During the episode, we talk about a couple of books... https://www.tamingthewild.com/about-taming-the-wild (Taming The Wild from Brian Bailey) https://www.amazon.com/s?k=dr+conor+brady+feeding+dogs&gclid=Cj0KCQjwz7uRBhDRARIsAFqjulluJxJ9iBCOMdzsr0g-ETVg_kStTgkn73eLW9fvlBTK9G_kQVaOAIUaApWgEALw_wcB&hvadid=492845339997&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9014879&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=13411881579487017877&hvtargid=kwd-1092682009408&hydadcr=7466_9611873&tag=googhydr-20&ref=pd_sl_2o9ejsdto6_e (Dr. Conor Brady's Feeding Dogs Dry Or Raw? The Panti Personals - S2 E2 - Ye Vagabonds Panti Bliss is with Brían and Diarmuid Mac Glionn, otherwise known as Ye Vagabonds, the multi-award winning harmonising brothers who hail from Co Carlow but whose music, songs and story are dipped in the waters of their mother's homeland, Arranmore Island in Co Donegal. Ye Vagabonds picked up best band at this year's RTÉ Irish Folk Awards as well as best folk track for their version of "I'm A Rover' and with Panti Bliss they share the roots of their music and how the Cobblestone Pub in Smithfield, ( which was under threat but planning permission for the hotel has now been rejected!), played such a part in their evolution as performers. For Panti they perform 'I'm A Rover' live and in hilarious detail tell the adventures of their All Boats Rise, slow tour, along the canalways with Myles O'Reilly, and perform one of the songs from that tour 'The Pride of The Barrow'. As they head into the mix for their third album they talk about 'blood harmonies' that unspoken sound language of siblings who sing together and gives us a unique insight into how they work together with the performance of a new song, written together. The Panti Personals S1 E8 Jerry Fish #ThePantiPersonals www.pantisocracy.ie Panti Bliss is with the definitive showman Jerry Fish for this episode of The Panti Personals. To some he's best known as the frontman and driving force of the hit 1990s band 'An Emotional Fish' to others he's the creative magic behind 'The Jerry Fish Electric Sideshow' at the Electric Picnic Festival (remember festivals?!). Born in Dublin, he was raised and shaped by London's South End, where the streets were, he says, tough and he was surrounded by a multi-cultural migrant community. from Ireland, the Carribbean and Asia. He came back to Dublin in his mid teens, expecting to find 'home' but found Dublin treated him as an outsider so he took to wandering, and travelling, including a stint living on a rock in the Greek isles. Back in Dublin 'An Emotional Fish' came together, and a helter-skelter five years of riding the rock n' roll wave of touring with bands like U2 followed. These days the wanderer has settled down, living the country life with his lovely wife Nikki, their four children, and one spectacular moustache! The band he brought together when he returned to music is 'Jerry Fish and the Mudbug Club' and Jerry performs two of his own songs, with the accompaniment of Cian Boylan, for Panti Bliss, in the show. The Panti Personals: Jane Willow www.pantisocracy.ie #ThePantiPersonals Panti Bliss is with a gorgeous young Dutch woman, singer and songwriter Jane Willow in this episode of The Panti Personals. But of course Jane's real name is Janneke van Nijnanten and much like our Queen, Panti Bliss and her homeboy Rory O'Neill, she loves the freedom a stage persona and name gives to her. There's a weird Glen Hansard theme going on in The Panti Personals as we heard how Galia Arad was inspired to come to Ireland by a Glen gig, and our Janneke took off to Dublin after hearing Glen talking about the glories of street busking as a musician in Dublin. Janneke went back to busking, more parks than streets, during lockdown, just to find an audience and have the joy of the singing in public again. In this episode she shares her story of coming here from her home town in the Netherlands, Breda which of course Panti thinks is a great name for a drag queen, Heavy Breda! During the show Janneke pops into her Jane Willow identity and performs twice for the Queen, a beautiful cover of Nick Cave's 'Into My Arms' and her own lovely song 'Let There Be Light', a suitable anthem for the times we're in. In this episode you also hear Jane singing her poignant cover of Leonard Cohen song, Chelsea Hotel. Here's her lockdown video of it : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRESTppQB4M The Panti Personals gets closer to being a 'personals' column with Panti putting the call out for a gorgeous ginger haired guy for Jane ( she has a thing for red-heads!).
