Alfie Williams might be a no-name actor at this point, but he steals the show and carries it. It has been 23 years since the release of Danny Boyle and Alex Garland's genre re-defining film "28 Days Later," which has received quite a devoted following over the years. Now, the director and writer have reunited to deliver "28 Years Later," a post-apocalyptic horror film that continues from "28 Weeks Later" (2007) and stars a new cast of characters played by Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, Alfie Williams, and Jack O'Connell. Cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle has also returned to shoot the film, predominantly using the iPhone (maintaining a consistent look with how audiences experienced the first Canon XL1 digital video-shot film in 2002), and it will kickstart a new trilogy of films with "28 Years Later: The Bone Temple" being directed by Nia DaCosta, to come next. After viewing the first 28 minutes of the film, Academy Award-winner Danny Boyle was kind enough to spend some time in the Sony offices in New York speaking with me about his work and experience making the anticipated sequel, which you can listen to below. Director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland are set to collaborate on a sequel to 28 Days Later titled 28 Years Later. The highly anticipated project is poised to be the first instalment in a trilogy, with a reported budget of $75 million for each film. Golden Globe-winning Oppenheimer lead star Cillian Murphy, who starred in the original film, has expressed keen interest in reprising his role, stating that if Alex Garland thinks there's a good script and if Boyle is involved. The original film, released in 2002, garnered both critical and commercial success, inspiring a sequel, 28 Weeks Later, in 2007. With Boyle directing and Garland writing, the duo aims to recapture the essence of the zombie-apocalypse franchise that left audiences on the edge of their seats.
Director Danny Boyle made his big-screen debut with a shoestring budget film about four Scottish flatmates - one deceased - and a suitcase full of cash. This black comedy film, co-written by frequent Boyle collaborator John Hodge, raked in the most cash of any British film of 1995, even through the crew had to auction off props during production to buy more film stock in order to keep shooting. Starring Ewan McGregor, Christopher Eccleston, and Kerry Fox, the film was primarily shot in Glasgow as the city's film fund offered them a £150,000 grant. The film won 8 Oscars and is the highest domestic box office grossing Best Picture winner since 2003's Lord of The Rings: Return of the King.
