Director Danny Boyle reinvigorated the zombie genre with 2002's 28 Days Later. Cillian Murphy wakes up alone and naked in a hospital bed 28 days after a rage virus decimates England. Zombies, lack of resources, and some really gross military dudes round out some real horror in this episode! Discussion points include: how quickly men become terrible in a disaster, falling in love in an apocalypse, how to flag down help.
Director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland are set to collaborate on a sequel to 28 Days Later titled 28 Years Later. The highly anticipated project is poised to be the first instalment in a trilogy, with a reported budget of $75 million for each film. Golden Globe-winning Oppenheimer lead star Cillian Murphy, who starred in the original film, has expressed keen interest in reprising his role, stating that if Alex Garland thinks there's a good script and if Boyle is involved. The original film, released in 2002, garnered both critical and commercial success, inspiring a sequel, 28 Weeks Later, in 2007. With Boyle directing and Garland writing, the duo aims to recapture the essence of the zombie-apocalypse franchise that left audiences on the edge of their seats.
Director Danny Boyle made his big-screen debut with a shoestring budget film about four Scottish flatmates - one deceased - and a suitcase full of cash. This black comedy film, co-written by frequent Boyle collaborator John Hodge, raked in the most cash of any British film of 1995, even through the crew had to auction off props during production to buy more film stock in order to keep shooting. Starring Ewan McGregor, Christopher Eccleston, and Kerry Fox, the film was primarily shot in Glasgow as the city's film fund offered them a £150,000 grant. Director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland team up post-28 Days Later for Sunshine (2007), a criminally under-rated science fiction drama/horror with a soon-to-be all star cast. Cillian Murphy, Chris Evans, Rose Byrne, Michelle Yeoh and Cliff Curtis are an ensemble crew en route to reignite the dying sun when things, as they often do, go awry. This week’s episode was recorded in 2008, for the DVD and Blu-Ray release of SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE. Featured are Director Danny Boyle, and lead actor Dev Patel. Listenability Score: 3/5. A commentary's listenability score measures how easily it can be heard as a standalone podcast episode. Director Danny Boyle (127 Hours) took home the Academy Award for Best Director when helming the Best Picture from 2008 - Slumdog Millionaire. The film won 8 Oscars and is the highest domestic box office grossing Best Picture winner since 2003's Lord of The Rings: Return of the King. The film was praised by nearly every film critic alive in 2008 but is probably best known for being the film which won Best Picture instead of The Dark Knight. Check it out.

One week after its record-destroying opening weekend, the MovieFilm boys are back to offer some additional thoughts on the phenomenon that is Marvel Studios' Black Panther and what its unprecedented success means for the superhero genre. In addition, we react to news that futures of Paramount's Transformers shared cinematic universe and Warner Bros.' DC Comics shared cinematic universe are looking uncertain in the wake of the disappointing returns on last summer's Transformers: The Last Knight and last fall's Justice League respectively (including the sudden news that writer/director Joss Whedon has bolted his planned Batgirl film!). But that's not all! Director Danny Boyle is the frontrunner to direct the 25th James Bond adventure, star Daniel Craig's fifth and final go-round as 007. Plus: Word that Star Wars: Episode XI is already in shooting shape, Mark Hamill is getting a star on Walk of Fame, and the biggest Star Wars toy in history may soon be in the hot and eager hands of collectors! It's podcasting jazz this week, and we're composing as we go! Listen at iTunes or Stitcher or Google Play.
