Then, we move on to one of our favorite subjects — Christian magicians. We examine the videos of Joshua Lozoff and Brice Harney, two gigging magicians who advertise themselves to a Christian audience and incorporate wholesome elements into their shows in different ways. Finally, we stumble upon what seems to be a common youth group experience: The Sin Chair. We're not sure of the origins of this skit frequently performed at church events and talent shows, but it seems to be passed along like a meme from youth group to youth group, interpreted in very different ways. In the skit, a character sits on a chair prominently labeled “Do Not Touch”, which causes them to get stuck to the chair. A series of people attempt to rescue them, only getting themselves stuck in the process. Finally, a character prays, which unlocks the sin chair and frees everyone. It seems like a simple and powerful metaphor for sin, but we can't help but think that it barely makes any sense at all. Still, our study of Christian stagecraft was a welcome conclusion to the darkness and despair we felt while entangled in the devil's “spooky season.” View our full episode list and subscribe to any of our public feeds: http://boysbiblestudy.com Unlock 2+ bonus episodes per month: http://patreon.com/boysbiblestudy Subscribe to our Twitch for monthly streams: http://twitch.tv/boysbiblestudy Follow us on Instagram: http://instagram.com/boysbiblestudy Follow us on Twitter: http://twitter.com/boysbiblestudy

Psalms 46:1What is it about human nature that just has to disobey the signs? We see the words “Do Not Touch” and we have this unexplainable urge to do the opposite. Obedience is not something that comes naturally to us—that's human nature. The good news is God gives us the power to overcome our sinful inclinations.
I mostly ignored April this year.Autism Awareness Month – or Autism Acceptance or Action Month – whatever color we're wearing these days.I know I should use any forums I have to promote awareness and encourage acceptance and demand action for those living with autism. But autism is loud enough here already without that extra amplification. There's only so much I can handle. The April theme around here seems to be irritability. His, and mine.I'm irritated with his health insurance company, who somehow forgot that I am his legal guardian and am, in fact, authorized to talk about his care (no, you can't actually speak to the “member,” although, believe me, I would love it if you could).I'm irritated with pharmacies and prior authorizations and potential drug interactions and doctor's appointments that take forever to get scheduled.I'm irritated that the notes from his dermatologists' appointment say, “Patient was offered full body check and refused,” when they really should say, “Parent/Guardian requested a full body check, but patient was unwilling in the 30 seconds the doctor allotted to give him a chance to agree.”I'm irritated for friends managing very challenging aspects of this disability that are not worthy of any April autism celebrations.I'm irritated by the difficulty of describing my son to potential new providers – how to paint an inviting and positive picture that is also realistic about the ups and downs they might encounter on the job.Because my son is irritable this month, too.He has had some nice moments – time with our extended family, outings with his day program, even trying a few new foods (and he liked the broccoli calzones! Yes!)But in between these glimpses of contentment, he's agitated at things seen and unseen – and his irritation takes over his voice, his body, and our shared living quarters.I've pulled out the blue tape again, to block his perseverations from the kitchen while I'm cooking.I keep my office door closed more often.I've added a “Do Not Touch” sign to the kitchen faucet to remind him that he and I are not in agreement about how the sink should look.We argue over clothes and chores and cleanliness and carbs.I try to choose my battles, still searching for the right balance between his autonomy and my necessary caregiving. Some days, everything is a battle, and I'm waving the white flag over all of it.Sorry I bought you new shoes, kid. How dare I? You just keep wearing your old worn-out ones while I figure out an appropriate “transition” plan…My son often sleeps in late, and is usually agitated on waking, so I find myself in the mornings reciting a variation of this prayer that I've seen making the rounds:When he is snippy, it's hard not to take it personally.I tell myself that I need to have thicker skin. He is allowed to b***h and stomp around if he wants to, and it's not about me.Well, sometimes it is about me. I've kept my hand in my pocket for too long, my hair is not the way he likes it, my sleeves are pushed up, I'm using the wrong pen.My son takes a medication that is approved to treat “irritability associated with autism.”I am associated with autism, and I am also irritable. Is there a pill for that?I worked with a Relationship Development Intervention (RDI) therapist for a few months who reminded me that my son needs opportunities to just be with us – no demands, no expectations, not even suggestions – to just have someone there, to be with him as he is.He doesn't always want that connection, but when I really stop trying to help or instruct or explain, the irritants fall away on both sides. He doesn't have to hear my annoying requests or questions, and I feel a little less worried about his behavior and health and whatever I'm supposed to be doing for him next.If he's willing, we can just hang out and practice not getting on each other's nerves.I don't always know what is beneath his agitation. But I know what's beneath mine. I am worried for this kid I love, frustrated that there are no easy solutions – and his agitated noises make it hard to think (or make the needed phone calls). All I can do, some days, is step away – put in earplugs, go for extra walks, turn up the music – to try to get myself in a better place in order to help him. And, hey, giving myself a break from him gives him the benefit of a break from me, too.Almost daily, my kid will come close to me and abruptly turn his back – blocking my view of whatever I'm doing. It's not a snub, though.“Itchy!” he declares, demanding my assistance.I can't seem to relieve a lot of his other irritations lately. But this one, I can do.I scratch his back, and – at least for a short minute – we both feel a little less irritated. Thanks for being here. His clothing lines showcase his unique, bold and original pieces, which make more than a fashion statement; Do Not Touch is a concept line that highlights human rights through its messaging. A rising up and coming young designer originally from Harlem, New York now residing in Dallas, TX, Charles Smith II is leading the art and fashion community in young generations both in his city and on an international stage. His diverse aesthetic vision is apparent in his luxury brand “Smith II” and his edgier ready-to-wear brand “S2 by Smith II,” a line for young fashionistas who are also influenced by fashion but still want to eat after acquiring it. Charles Smith's transition from a player in the NBA D-League, to a model, and then to a designer showed him just how powerful following your dreams can be. He has walked in Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York, Miami, Berlin, London, Paris, and Milan, experiences through which he saw one side of the industry. Living in Milan, Italy from 14 to 16 years of age and again from 19-21, Charles honed a European style through firsthand experience in the European fashion world. He has dressed fashion notables and celebrities such as Solange, Rev Run's daughter Angela Simmons, Chris Brown's ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran, and also Lenny Kravitz's daughter Zoe Kravitz, just to name a few. Charles has inspired and influenced his young followers by showing them that a kid from Harlem can make any dream come true.

In episode 13 of "A Few Screws Loose," Dan and P talk about how they take EVERYTHING personal. Both of us often perceive things that may be benign as being disrespectful or a slight towards us. We share some of the things that make us furious, even though these things may seem minor or even non-issues to others. Some of these things make us appear to be completely irrational. During the recording of this episode we also learned that we have some of the same issues when it comes to physical touch, affection and personal space. We don't like to be touched, period (even by loved ones). (0:00) Shout to The BREAKS Media Network! (4:06) Recap of Episode 12: Psych vs. Psych. (6:38) Being Disrespected. (20:08) Do Not Touch! Mary the Ark of the Covenant and “Do Not Touch the Ark”. The presentation of Jesus in the Temple means the true presence of God is back in the temple again. Simeon and Anna rejoice. We begin today’s podcast with St. John’s vision at Patmos in REV 11-12. The contents of the ark are sacred and not to be touched. Everyone knew the rule; do not touch the ark. Recall how in Leviticus 10, Nadab and Abihu, Aaron’s sons, offered unauthorized fire and were struck dead. David’s man Uzzah was also struck dead when he touched the side of the Ark to steady it (2 Sam 6). We also recall when the Lord slew 70 men who looked into the Ark of the Covenant (1 Sam 6). We too become a tabernacle of meeting each time we receive Jesus in the Eucharist. The episode continues with the circumcision of Jesus, and Presentation of Jesus in the temple. We remember from 2 Maccabees 2 that the true presence of God has been absent from the temple ever since Jeremiah sealed the Ark of the Covenant in a cave on the mountain of Moses. As Mary and Joseph bring the infant Jesus for the purification ceremony, the true presence of God has finally returned to the temple, an event long anticipated and recognized by Simeon and the prophetess Anna. The Holy Family returns to Nazareth for the “hidden” years of Jesus as he grows in strength and wisdom with the favor of God upon him. Luke 2 concludes with 12-year-old Jesus teaching in the temple: the true presence of God has returned to the temple yet again, “Why are you looking for me? Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s House?” With the Eucharist present in every tabernacle of every Catholic Church, we have access to the true presence of God at all times. Gary, Lyn and Dee discuss current events and politics. We start with our US Senator, Cory Gardner. But, we quickly move to Space Force. A new $8B service announced by the person who touches the stuff that NASA labels as sensitive equipment and “Do Not Touch.” We converse on Health Care for All. A new study funded by the Koch bros. Found that ‘Healthcare for All’ would cost upwards of $32.6T (that’s trillions.) A lot of people are upset about that price tag. What they don’t tell you is that it is less than what we pay now! And, this coverage would include everyone, with lower deductibles and co-pays, and cover dental and vision. Healthcare for all is a bargain, but it would put the donor class out of business. So, let’s not hold our breath on that. In a follow-up to last week’s story on LeBron James ‘I Promise’ school, there is a petition going around to replace Betsy DeVos with LeBron for Secretary of Education. We at least know he cares about public school children. We go over the leaked tape of Devin Nunes at a fundraiser explaining why they can’t impeach Rod Rosenstein until after they get Bret Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court. In a spot of good news, the Sinclair -Tribune merger is off. Not because anyone has a conscience there, but because the combination would be too strong a challenger for Fox ‘News.’ Lyn gives us some book reviews. We discuss election initiatives that will be on the Colorado ballot. We examine the insider trading allegations against Congressman Collins. (He has since decided to suspend his re-election campaign.) Gary gives us a list of the ‘Trumpiest Men in Congress.’ We review the good news coming out of Missouri with voters rejecting the ‘Right-to-Work’ law imposed by the statehouse there. Colorado is a ‘Right-to-Work’ state as well. Maybe we can get an initiative for the 2020 election to repeal that? A US federal judge has allowed a climate change lawsuit against the current Republican administration to go forward. We consider the new updated Canadian post offices that are designed to reduce gas used by consumers. (They even have changing rooms and drive up service for package pick-up!) In another Canadian story Doug Ford is promising $1 beer. (He is the brother of Rob Ford, and now the Premier of Ontario.) #SpaceForce #MedicareForAll #NunesTapes #SinclairTribune #CO2018Elections #InsiderTrading #RightToWork #ClimateChange #CanadaPost #$1Beer Like listening to this podcast? Christmas Eve - God chose to enter a world that hides behind "DO NOT TOUCH" or "YOU BREAK IT YOU BUY IT" signs. As children we were told to "look, but don't touch." Jesus says, "See And Touch."
